Bug#761016: problem solved meanwhile

2015-08-13 Thread Hermann Vosseler

today I've noticed that the problem described here is solved
for gdb 7.7.1+dfsg-5 (which is the version currently in Debian/stable)

With this version, there is still a similar problem with std::function
and lambda, when additionally an argument type uses a template parameter
from the enclosing function

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=795445

this additional problem seems to be resolved
with the next version from upstream though

Bug#795450: iceweasel: major exploits against current firefox in the wild

2015-08-13 Thread Richard Jasmin
Package: iceweasel
Version: 38.1.0esr-3
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream security
Justification: user security hole

There are recent reports as of last week on wired magazine homepage under
"technology" and "recent hacks while away at defcon" that exploit firefox in
major ways. Both windows and Linux users were targeted and information was
retrived that should not have been able to be retrieved.Running any less than
the experimental build leaves people vulnerable to this issue. More details are
on the wired website. Reccomend immeadiate update to experimental build version
to fix this. I cant see why depends would break but this needs some testing to
see if anything would break with the update.

In the meanwhile users can always install firefox latest in a non-root location
(home folder) and run it from there. This should in theory work as the debian
depends for experimental version are a non issue.I believe the file is pre-
compiled binary as released. Anything designed for ubuntu werewolf or less
should run just dandy on stretch.

As we are open source, we need to patch/update and diseminate(backport) things
like this (to mainstream linux community [Fedora/RHEL/Ubuntu/project
maintainers]) as they are discovered. We dont have time for major exploits to
hit Linux and go unreported.

I believe this is an upstream bug. As the exploit has already leaked, Private
BTS reporting is moot point.I only discovered the issue as an already "in the
wild" bug.Did not discover the exploit myself.

Bug#795449: courier-mta doesn't start - missing init dependency?

2015-08-13 Thread Dave Platt
Package: courier-mta
Version: 0.73.1-1.6
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

After a Debian upgrade, I found that the courier-mta daemon was
not running - it had not been started at boot time. Re-running
the init script manually started it OK. The same scenario occurred
after each subsequent shutdown / reboot of the system - no daemon
even though its init file was present (and symlinked from /etc/rc2.d)
but running the init script manually would always start the daemon
correctly.

I hooked up a serial console to the server and captured the boot log.
Observed that courier-mta was complaining about the inability to write
into one of its temporary directories and the init script was
aborting part way through.

I checked the Courier init scripts, and observed that the courier
"run" directory is set up by the courier-authdaemon init script.
and then used by courier-mta and courier-mta-ssl. If the authdaemon
script doesn't run to completion before the courier-mta script, a
race condition occurs, and courier-mta may abort because the setup
hasn't been done.

In the older sysv init system this was not a problem, as the init
scripts are run in alphabetic order in any given dependency group.
Because -authdaemon sorts before -mta, proper setup occurred.

This is no longer the case, in the newer init systems which run
multiple scripts (or start multiple services) in parallel. The
implicit alphabetic ordering no longer applies.

The courier-mta init script does not list courier-authdaemon as a
dependency, even though this script does require that some of the
setup logic in courier-authdaemon be run first. Thus, the two scripts
are in the ordering level and can run at the same time (or in an
arbitrary order). This leaves courier-mta vulnerable to a failed
startup.

I added "courier-authdaemon" to the courier-mta and courier-mta-ssl
service requirement lines, and re-ran "insserv". This moved these
two init scripts to the next-highest ordering group, ensuring that
courier-authdaemon would start up first.

courier-mta started up reliably, at every subsequent boot, until
the next time a system upgrade replaced the courier-mta init script.

I suggest adding these dependency lines to the startup scripts
for the next release.

Patch is attached below.

Bug#795445: resolved with next version from upstream

2015-08-13 Thread Hermann Vosseler

seemingly the issue was fixed with next version from upstream

Currently there is a package 7.9-1 in experimental, which still
has some RC bugs.

But it is possible to use the debian package 7.8.2-1
This package can be pulled from git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-gdb/gdb.git
and builds without further modifications on Jessie

With this (next) gdb version, I am able to debug again,
so the urgent show stopper is resolved for me.

Would it be possible to promote this gdb_7.8.2-1 to Debian/stable?
Or is this against policy? IMHO such fundamental stuff should be
working in a stable distribution.

Thanks for the patch! Now everything builds happily again indeed. Note
that "--v5" is an Ubuntu-ism, this new option isn't in Debian yet. You
want "--suffix v5" for Debian.

Bug#794581: /usr/bin/kwin_x11: crashes when starting first window

2015-08-13 Thread Émilien Tlapale
Same here. Version breeze/4:5.3.2-4 was problematic (stuck on login), so
I put all the *breeze* packages on hold at -3, but today's update
(libkf5*) brought back the stuck on login problem.

After removing the hold on breeze packages, effectively upgrading them
to -4, the desktop got decorations, though only on the first virtual
desktop, and the taskbar/panels are only present on the first virtual
desktop.

I tested again today, and see a new effect.

With 5.3.2-4, kwin does not crash anymore. Instead, the desktop gets
window decorations and does not redraw. Everything else works.

I downgraded to 5.3.2-2 again, and now kwin crashes with the old
version, the same way it did with the new version before.

Maybe related to the libkf5* update today?

"current" is not even a version.

This is hardly a grave bug, since the package works and even if one site
stopped working, the package has support for multiple sites. See below for
more information.

>* What led up to the situation?
>
> youtube-dl -x https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZh7nRw6gl8

This works perfectly fine here with youtube-dl from unstable. In fact, I
use it myself on a daily basis, as I both need it and write other software
that depends on it (e.g., edx-dl).

Since your message didn't specify the version that you have installed, I
can't know more. Thus, I'm tagging this bug both as moreinfo and as
unreproducible.

My crystal ball stopped working many, many years ago. Please write some
text, so that I can understand what is your problem.

Which error? youtube-dl generates lots of output, especially when it wasn't
able to download of something.

It would be super helpful to know which version is affected, instead of
saying "current". Do you mean the version in stable? oldstable? testing?
unstable?

Of libtorrent-rasterbar's reverse dependencies, qbittorrent requires a
new upstream version to build against the version in experimental. I
have a package ready to be uploaded. Fatrat and Flush both have other
build issues which I haven't had time to get to the bottom of and NMU.
As neither are currently in testing due to those RC bugs, that
shouldn't necessarily hold pack promoting libtorrent-rasterbar to
unstable. It seems like that's probably the cleanest solution.

I'll prepare an upload. Though, if I'm reading the transition tracker
right, qt4-x11 will need to be rebuilt first. [0] On the other hand,
it seems to have been rebuilt recently. [1]

actually it does if memory serves me correctly. IIRC this was a
misconfiguration of something but I dont remember what Off the top of my
head. Has nothing to do with flgrx or the X11 config file.

Bug#795447: stretch-pu: package subversion/1.8.13-1+deb9u1

2015-08-13 Thread James McCoy
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal

The recent upstream Subversion releases included fixes for 2 CVEs
(CVE-2015-3184 and CVE-2015-3187). The sid upload got caught up in the
libstdc++ transition, so I've uploaded an updated package for stretch.

Attached is the debdiff. It's large, but a good chunk of that is added
testing for the security fix.

Cheers,
James

Bug#795446: udisks: Cancel does not function on authentication

2015-08-13 Thread dave
Source: udisks
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * Using Standard XFCE desktop included with Debian 8.1
Have a hard drive that is not automatically mounted via fstab
Drive is listed on the desktop and within Thunar
Double click to mount the drive(either via desktop or Thunar)
Authentication is requested to mount the drive.
If correct password is entered, application performs as intended and
mounts the hard drive
If the cancel button is pressed, authentication request is repeated.
Expected that request for authentication would be cancelled.
The only way to remove the authentication box is to have the correct
password.
Reported to Udisks project since this is listed in the details.

Bug#795445: gdb: segfault with std::function bound to lambda using type from template parameter

2015-08-13 Thread Hermann Vosseler
Package: gdb
Version: 7.7.1+dfsg-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading to Debian/Stable, serious problems with GDB:
Unable to start with most of the C++11 programs I am working on,
since the debugger crashes right at start.

Could confirm this problem is present on a pristine install of
Debian 8.1, both 64bit and 32bit

I was able to narrow down the problem in one case to a situation,
where a std::function is bound to a lambda, which uses the template
parameter of the enclosing function as argument type. (function / lambda
without this specific twist cause no problems)

See the following demonstration:

crash_gdb_jessie-2015-08.sh-
#/!bin/sh

# crash_gdb -- demostrate a Segfault when invoking the debugger

Bug#795444: python-enum: Conflicting module with package 'enum' provided by 'python-enum34'

2015-08-13 Thread Gregory DAVID
Package: python-enum
Version: 0.4.4-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

When trying to execute the 'ladi-control-center', part of the 'ladi-tools'
package, Python issue the following error: TypeError: issubclass() arg 1 must
be a class.
After some code analysis, I fund that the import of the 'enum' module do not
reflect what is expected.
In my system, both 'python-enum' and 'python-enum34' are installed, but when
importing the 'enum' module, 'python-enum34' has the precedence.
I do not know exactly how to force the load of a particular module when having
the same name.
'enum' module from 'python-enum' live in '/usr/share/pyshared/enum.py' and is
linked in '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/enum.py' and I can't load it.
'enum' module from 'python-enum34' live in '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-
packages/enum/enum.py' and is the one loaded while importing 'import enum' or
'from enum import Enum'.

Thanks.

Ok, it's weird. It works partially for me. That is, CTRL+F does bring
the find bar, and typing text in there finds it in the preferences
page... in some cases.

On the "General" screen, for example, I can find "when" but not "warn".

This is actually what I meant by my report, but since I discovered that
Alt+Shift+ works. I would note that on the bugzilla but I don't
have an account :-P

Odd, I tried again, still doesn't work. Slash doesn't either.

Maybe we should close this bug and open a new one just for the search?

Bug#795443: ocaml: please make the ocamldoc date configurable

2015-08-13 Thread Chris Lamb
Source: ocaml
Version: 4.01.0-5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org

Hi,

While working on the "reproducible builds" effort [1], we have noticed
that ocamldoc always generates manpages with the current date.

The attached patch adds a -man-date argument to ocamldoc to accept any
arbitrary string.

An alternative would be to accept a UNIX timestamp and then format that
but a patch for that would be more invasive. The UNIX manpage format
accepts mostly any value here anyway, so this isn't too restrictive.

I don't think this actually blocks the libconfig transition, because viva

That's not true. You still can, but it's not necessarily visible.
Filed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1194530

There's also the issue that keyboard shortcuts don't work, so you are
kind of stuck with the Tab key.

CTRL+F works for me.

You can go to about:config and turn browser.preferences.inContent false,
but I can't guarantee that'll work forever. (at least, that won't change
in a 38.x)

Bug#795440: cryptmount-setup fails and can't recover when user mistypes initial passphrase

2015-08-13 Thread Loyall, David
Package: cryptmount
Version: 5.1-1

Hi.

The cryptmount-setup script fails immediately when I provide mismatched
passwords (passphrases) during setup.

So the user has try again, and type in all those configuration values again.

Hark! A bug! cryptmount-setup remembered the name of the new filesystem from
the first run, even though it didn't complete, and won't allow the user try
again to create an encrypted filesystem with that name.

A shell transcript follows. Bug observed at the end.

Comments/Problems:

When the time for choosing the partition to install the system came, I selected
a logical partition (/dev/sda10) on which previously I had Debian 7.8.
The partition (/dev/sda10) was already formatted as ext4 but I wanted its
content to vanish, therefore I formatted the partition again as ext4.

Right after selecting "write changes to disk" the installer froze. The progress
bar was at some 30% and kept like that. The installer didn't respond.
This happened 5 times.

Eventually I managed to install Debian 8.1.0 on /dev/sda10 just by formatting
the mentioned partition with Gparted from another OS and not asking the
installer to format it. The installation process went fine.

In case it matters, I have Kubuntu 14.04.02 on /dev/sda7, Debian jessie 8.1 on
/dev/sda8, Trisquel Belenos 7.0 on /dev/sda9 and Haiku-OS (a BeOS-like) on
/dev/sda11. Hence I installed the bootloader, during the installation process,
on /dev/sda10 since I manage grub from Kubuntu.

I installed the whole system on /dev/sda10.

Bug#795442: musescore: does not honor /etc/papersize

2015-08-13 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: musescore
Version: 2.0.2+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

/etc/papersize is set to "letter", but attempting to print to my printer
(or to a file) causes it to attempt to print A4. Moreover, immediately
after setting it to Letter and printing, attempting to print again makes
it go right back to A4, so it doesn't remember my settings, unlike every
other program.

While I understand that A4 is used by most of the world and is an
international standard (and I agree is desirable than Letter), I live in
the United States and only have Letter paper. The fact that it doesn't
preserve the settings in the print dialog would not be so bad, but it
doesn't honor /etc/papersize, which makes printing very frustrating.

All software on Debian systems, including musescore, should honor
/etc/papersize, as it avoids this problem wholesale. Please fix
musescore so it honors this setting.

This doesn't actually seem to block the libconfig transition, because
fit-gtm doesn't use the affected C++ ABI, only the unaffected C ABI.

Reopening this bug and turning it into a transition tracker as requested.
Release team: I think this transition is ready for its remaining binNMUs.

Tony, for your reference, there was no need to do sourceful uploads
to rebuild stealth, ssh-cron etc. against the updated bobcat:
the release team normally schedule binNMUs for this sort of thing.

Remaining things wrong with this transition:

* esajpip FTBFS due to
and I would be inclined to remove it from testing if it holds up the
  transition (popcon = 1).

* ldc FTBFS because LLVM static libraries need to be rebuilt with

* libffado FTBFS because libdbus-c++ needs a transition

* lierolibre FTBFS on amd64 and i386, which seems to be caused by the new
upstream version of libconfig not being 100% API-compatible with the old
. It has never built successfully on
  non-x86 in any case.

To be transitioned, but not in testing anyway:

Bug#795439: poppler-utils: pdftotext incorrectly rendering some vertical bars as form feeds

2015-08-13 Thread Norman Ramsey
Package: poppler-utils
Version: 0.26.5-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Running pdftotext on the attached PDF produces some spurious form feeds.
I'm using pdftotext to extract text for indexing an 800-page document,
and the spurious form feeds throw off the page counts.

I've worked around the problem by altering libpoppler46 to grab the
page-termination sequence from an environment variable, but that's
just a hack.

  - A good fix would be to find out why these vertical bars are
rendering as form feeds and to render them as suitable ASCII or
Unicode characters.

  - An acceptable workaround would be to replace the -nopgbrk option
with an option that sets the "page break" string to a string given
on the command line (which could be empty). That second solution
would appear to involve some nontrivial refactoring of the code
base, which is why I haven't tried to make a patch for it.

Bug#795438: wims-extra: please make the build reproducible

Severity: wishlist

Hi,

While working on the "reproducible builds" effort [1], we have noticed
that wims-extra could not be built reproducibly.

Ironically the "fixscripts" target in the upstream Makefile actually
breaks files it generates under non-UTF8 locales when they do not
contain regular characters, making them include the tell-tale string
"Binary file matches.."

The attached patch fixes this with grep's --text option. Once
applied, wims-extra can be built reproducibly in our reproducible
toolchain.

Bug#795437: lierolibre: FTBFS with libconfig 1.5

2015-08-13 Thread Simon McVittie
Source: lierolibre
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

[X-Debbugs-Cc to libcon...@packages.debian.org]

A binNMU of lierolibre was attempted for the libconfig C++ ABI transition.
Unfortunately, this failed, with a lot of errors like this:

src/common.cpp: In member function 'void
Texts::loadFromCFG(std::__cxx11::string)':
src/common.cpp:165:38: error: no match for 'operator[]' (operand types are
'const libconfig::Setting' and 'std::__cxx11::basic_string')
   gameModes[i] = (char const*)sgmodes["gameModes" + to_string(i)];
  ^

   Setting & operator[](const char *name) const;

/usr/include/libconfig.h++:224:13: note: no known conversion for argument 1

This seems to be a deliberate change in libconfig 1.5. There used to be
an inline operator[](const std::string &), but it was removed:

> Note: `operator[]` had to remain as `const char*` to avoid ambiguities
> in some situations.

I'm not sure why the NMU of libconfig included a new upstream version,
but it's happened now.

I attach a patch which compiles. I have not tested it.

The -t option set's default release, which is equivalent to

it does not do anything special for dependencies.

APT in git will now migrate the auto-installed state from oldlibs
packages to dependencies on removal.

Please remove netty3.1 in the 8.2 point release. It was apparently

eventually).

Bug#795428: OpenSLP 1.2 should not be part of stretch

2015-08-13 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Source: openslp-dfsg
Severity: serious

The last maintainer upload of openslp happened in 2007
and it's orphaned for 5.5 years now. The 1.2 branch is
completely abandoned upstream.

At the minimum the package should be upgraded to 2.0,
but the comment at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2015-5177
suggests it's completely abandoned upstream.

Bug#795427: icedtea-7-plugin: Startup warning/error dialogs are easily lost

2015-08-13 Thread Samuel Bronson
Package: icedtea-7-plugin
Version: 1.5-2+deb8u1
Severity: normal

After telling firefox to go ahead and allow the applet on
to run, I got the following dialog
box:

Which would have been fine, except that it somehow ended up behind my
other windows. Which should have been fine too, *EXCEPT* that neither
Alt-Tab nor the task list showed any sign of it, which is probably
related to the window manager hints (as reported by xwininfo):

  Window manager hints:
Client accepts input or input focus: No
  Displayed on desktop 0
  Window type:
  Dialog
  Window state:
  Skip Taskbar
Process id: 10540 on host Sam-laptop
  Frame extents: 6, 6, 27, 6

After I closed that dialog, I got an error message where the applet
would have been if I'd permitted it, with a "click here for details"
link allowing me to open another dialog with the same problem (and some
tracebacks; see below), from which I could also open a console with that
problem.

After spending an inordinate amount of time poking around, I'm
concluding that the problem is probably that most of the relevant
dialogs are being created without passing in an owner frame; I suspect
the proper one to use might be the PluginAppletViewer?

Here are the tracebacks from the second dialog, in case you care

I think that's the reason. We're tunneling everythning through ssh in
case of qemu+ssh but not for qemu+tcp. In this case you have to make
sure you have the VNC server listening not only on localhost.

Bug#795425: gwakeonlan: improvements to desktop file and icon location

2015-08-13 Thread Ronny Standtke
Package: gwakeonlan
Version: 0.5.1-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The gwakeonlan icon looks very blurry on desktops with larger icons
(e.g. GNOME). I noticed that the svg icon is installed in a non-standard
folder. When adding a link to the correct location (just add the
attached file
gwakeonlan.links to the debian directory) and change the desktop file
accordingly (see attached diff), the gwakeonlan icon looks much better.
The diff also adds a GenericName to the desktop file.

Bug#795424: virtualbox-guest-x11: KDM causes vboxvideo driver to crash on assertion at login time.

2015-08-13 Thread David Martínez Moreno
Package: virtualbox-guest-x11
Version: 4.3.30-dfsg-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I'm submitting this for 4.3.30-dfsg-1, but 5.0.0-dfsg-1 is also
affected.

KDM (at least) uses the generations extension in the XServer to avoid
reloading it. This triggers an assertion in the vboxvideo driver
causing a black screen usually right after login.

There's a patch fixing this (and more information that I requested) at
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/14341. I'll cherry-pick it and add it
to the 4.3.x branch.

Additionally, virtualbox 4.3 cannot be compiled with gcc-5.2, the
default in unstable right now. :-)

Yeah, got it, I managed somehow to disable "security labels" support on

Maybe your README.Debian should mention it, or maybe not, since it's ok

I tested again today, and see a new effect.

With 5.3.2-4, kwin does not crash anymore. Instead, the desktop gets
window decorations and does not redraw. Everything else works.

I downgraded to 5.3.2-2 again, and now kwin crashes with the old
version, the same way it did with the new version before.

Maybe related to the libkf5* update today?

Bug#795422: lxc-clone does not copy caps

2015-08-13 Thread Robert LeBlanc
Package: lxc
Version: 1:1.0.6-6+deb8u1.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

lxc-clone does not correctly copy the extended attributes which includes caps.
This causes problems for executables such as ping which can not be run as
a normal user without the apporpiate caps. I've submitted a patch upstream
which has been merged, this patch resolves the issue in Debian Jessie.

yes, it's choosing the key that is linearly first in its keyring.

I agree that key selection on the basis of names should be re-ordered,
but this is not something that's likely to change in the gnupg 1.4.*
branch, for two reasons:

  * there may be people relying on that behavior, which gpg doesn't want
to break

  * it would require a full linear scan through the keyring every time,
which is slower than bailing as soon as a single match is found.

In the meantime, you have a possible (clunky) workaround: you can remove
your old key from your keyring and then re-add it. this will change the
order of the keys in your keyring and will make your new key the first
one found to match your User ID.

I've had some discussions with GnuPG upstream about adjusting the
selection mechanisms for years [0]. I'm not sure when we'll be able to
convince them to make this change, but i'll keep pushing. :/

Bug#795384: mate-control-center: can only use mirror with two monitors

2015-08-13 Thread Francesco Potortì
[ rant moved below to concentrate on the important things ]

>FFS, do you really think we maintainers wouldn't notice such apparent

The latest version of mate-control-center DOES NOT CRASH. The problem
is the application is *not able to detect the monitor properties* and is
*not able to save* the manually-defined properties. My bug report
contains a detailed description (from a user's point of view).

The version that crashes for me is the one in testing, which is supposed
to be stable enough but is not for me. Should I report the crash
against 1.8.3 or is it unnecessary?

[ end of important things, rant follows moved from above ]

>Can you please stop reporting bugs while we are currently working on

I just sent one, and I have no idea what you are working on. While I
and others are grateful for your work, I certainly do not follow it
closely enough to know what you are doing :)

I expect them and I am willing to report those, hoping that it's useful
for you to know. If it is not, just ignore them, but I think you'd
better read them before discarding them...

I think you are wrong, but thanks for your work anyway.

Bug#795420: pidgin-skype-common: Add new HTTP-based skypeweb plugin

2015-08-13 Thread Markus Koller
Package: pidgin-skype-common
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

The recent launch of Skype for Web also introduced an HTTP API, removing
the need for the D-Bus plugin which is now deprecated [1].

but doesn't support MSN/Live logins yet. Would you consider bundling the
skypeweb plugin so users can choose which one to use?

OK. I added the alias. The other user visible changes were replaced
earlier one, so you can be happy.

Ya, if more people would like to maintain, the better. Sadly I'm not
an official Debian maintainer, so it does require more effort for me
to get things uploaded.

Either way, if people would like to step in to help keep the package
moving, great. I only ask in return, help with sponsorship :)

Yes, see my previous mail. The correct version to binNMU is:

nmu libaqbanking_5.6.1-1 . ALL . -m "rebuild against libktoblzcheck1v5"

> Also, have you confirmed that a rebuild with new g++ and libktoblzcheck

It shouldn't. The C++ API of libaqbanking (that would be
libaqbankingpp.so) isn't packaged at the moment. It should be safe to
rebuild libaqbanking using the new g++.

Micha

Thanks, i think this is the right thing to do, particularly since i'm
unable to reproduce the problem and haven't yet gotten the requested

Bug#795419: kphotoalbum: please change dependency from mplayer2 to mplayer

Dear Maintainer,

mplayer2 is dead upstream and thus going to be removed from Debian [1].
Thus please replace the dependency on it with mplayer, e.g.
by applying attached trivial patch. (It also replaces the recommends
on libav-tools with ffmpeg, because libav is also going to be removed,
see [2].)

I don't think that this is the same bug. The issue that precipitated
this bug was that the postinst script simply never tried to set
capabilities on the binaries at all during a reconfigure. Your issue
sounds like something else.

The output that you provided suggests that the iputils-ping postinst
script did try to set the capabilities as expected, but that setcap
failed for some reason. Please check to see if you can reproduce this by
calling setcap manually, e.g.

$ sudo setcap cap_net_raw+ep /bin/ping cap_net_raw+ep /bin/ping6

If this fails, then the problem isn't specifically with iputils but is
some other issue with capabilities on your system. If it works, then the
problem would seem to be with iputils somewhere and a new bug report
would be appropriate and we can try to debug the issue in that context.

Thanks
noah

This is an old file left over from a previous version. It can simply
be removed from the source. I'm doing this right now upstream.

Also, have you confirmed that a rebuild with new g++ and libktoblzcheck
