Bug#801992: iceweasel: App icons below 128x128 are cropped from instead of scaled from the larger image

2015-10-16 Thread Matthew Gabeler-Lee
Package: iceweasel
Version: 41.0.2-1
Severity: minor

Upgrading from 41.0.1-1 to 41.0.2-1, the app icons became damaged. The
icons at sizes below 128x128 are now crops from the top left corner of the
128x128 icon instead of scaled down versions. At the smaller sizes, this
produces an icon that is almost entirely transparency, with just a small
white triangle in the bottom right corner.

Bug#801996: RFP: libcxf2-java - open source services framework

2015-10-16 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jonas Smedegaard

* Package name: libcxf2-java
  Version : 2.7.7 or newer
Upstream Author : The Apache Software Foundation
* URL : http://cxf.apache.org/
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : open source services framework

Apache CXF is an open source services framework. CXF helps you build
and develop services using frontend programming APIs, like JAX-WS
and JAX-RS. These services can speak a variety of protocols such as
SOAP, XML/HTTP, RESTful HTTP, or CORBA and work over a variety of
transports such as HTTP, JMS or JBI.

Package is needed by beaker-notebook (bug#795980) and the ShowMeBox
project: https://wiki.debian.org/ShowMeBox - if interested, see also
https://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/showme-devel/2015-October/50.html

Bug#801475: freeplane: Fails to build with JMapViewer 1.11

2015-10-16 Thread Felix Natter
hi Bas,
hi Tony,

I added a patch for JMapViewer-1.11 compatibility:
  http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-java/freeplane.git

I've set the distribution to experimental since it should probably be
uploaded to unstable together with jmapviewer (now that it _requires_
jmapviewer>=1.11).

@Tony: Would you be willing to sponsor this and/or shall I submit an RFS
for this?

Changes:

freeplane (1.3.15-3) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Upgrade JMapViewer to 1.11 (Closes: #801475)
  * Remove freeplane.menu because freeplane.desktop exists
  * Upgrade to debhelper 9
  * Fix debian/copyright (dep5-copyright-license-name-not-unique)

gah I'm terribly sorry but I was extremely busy all week long and
couldn't get to replying to your message. and now logs for oct 9th just
got rotated out into oblivion so I can't send the details I had. real
sorry for that!

fwiw, dbus was upgraded again to 1.10.0-3 and later I downgraded
policykit-1 to 0.105-12, the version from sid. And I haven't seen the
same kind of error reproducing.

I've had one more issue with gdm that wouldn't start but that day I
wasn't seeing the same error lines as initially reported, and rebooting
fixed the situation.

If I see the issue reappearing I'll make a sign here.

Description : wrappers for doing Mathematics in Groovy

Graxxia is a library adds data analysis features to Groovy, similar
to languages such as R, Julia, etc, and also to libraries such as
 Pandas for Python.
 .
It should be emphasised that there is nearly nothing in Graxxia
itself that is not just a wrapper around other existing libraries.
For example Matrix support all comes from Apache commons-math,
parsing of CSV and TSV (tab separated) files comes from OpenCSV and
 GroovyCSV, etc.

I used the Page | Import menu item to import the second document into the first,
creating new pages at the end of the first document.

* What was the outcome of this action?
The pages imported and all the text appeared to be there but the imported pages
didn't have the correct formatting. Font sizes, colours and possibly even
character
set were wrong. Some text displayed as boxes instead of characters.

Importing does not work very well, and upstream confirmed so.
If you want more details please take a look at that upstream bug.

* What outcome did you expect instead?
I wanted the appended document to look the way it did in its own document.

I'd like too :)

From time to time I've to deal with something similar, luckily for what
I do I don't need to import stuff that often, and never something big to
cause me trouble at fixing.

What confuses me about this is why it happens. When you import a
document into another, the styles are picked up and renamed to avoid
duplicate names. The new names replace the names in the imported
document so it should work perfectly every time.

Fortunately there is pdfunite, so I can export the individual documents
and join the pdfs. However that gets messy after a few documents.

Bug#800715: support for Planescape: Torment

2015-10-16 Thread Markus Koschany
Control: tags -1 patch pending

I added support for Planescape: Torment. I think I will file a wishlist
bug report against gemrb. It would be nice if the configuration files
already contained the paths to the g-d-p data.

Something weird is going on when I run

game-data-packager planescape-torment

g-d-p automatically downloads the English Linux installer although I
provided the windows installer. Package building succeeds in the end.

If I leave the styles edit pane open and later return to it, it stops

You need to click on the style you want to edit again even though it is the one
the edit pane shows.

I believe this behaviour is both wrong and confusing. The pane should always
match
the selected style and vice-versa.

sorry, but I completely fail to understand what you're talking about :)
I'm not sure to *which* "styles edit pane" you're referring to, for
example.

the only pane that gets disabled when you deselect the object is the one
that appears with the F2 key (the "Propreties" window), at least that's
my experience.

Please, can you share more details? :)

Seems to be working now. A few weeks ago it was quite annoying because I
was switching back and forth between editing text and styles quite a bit.

Bug#778999: gnucash crashed with ImportError in /usr/share/gnucash/python/init.py: No module named gnucash

2015-10-16 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Package: gnucash
Version: 1:2.6.8-1
Followup-For: Bug #778999

Hi,

For me this is a clear case where a Recommends: python-gnucash should be
added to the main package.

A Recommends is defined in the policy as:

This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.

The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with
this one in all but unusual installations.

Now by default gnucash is printing a python backtrace as the
python-gnucash is not installed, this looks a bit wrong to me.

Could you please add this Recommends?

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville

CometD is a scalable HTTP-based event routing bus that uses a Ajax

CometD is a Dojo Foundation project to provide implementations of

As I wrote in the upstream bug, this is a problem with unwanted Net::HTTP
(as used by LWP::UserAgent) buffering.

It's possible for the LWP::UserAgent request() call to get both the
headers and (parts of) the body in the same read(2) call. When that
happens, Net::HTTP (as used by LWP::UserAgent) will buffer the body,
but the explicit read() call on the socket bypasses this buffering,
resulting in empty data.

The attached patch just marks the resulting test failures as TODO when
this happens by breaking encapsulation and peeking in the Net::HTTP
buffer. Note that this is a hack and not a proper fix, but I think it's
good enough for the Debian package.

Totally understandable: before modifying things, I would also want to
take a look at them and get an idea of how they work.

Although, in this case, just defining and exporting one additional
environment variable should probably have little chance to break
things...

It seems that the gemrb package is a shared runtime needed by the
gemrb-baldurs-gate, gemrb-baldurs-gate-2 packages...

So in G-D-P the engine: tag should have this "gemrb-baldurs-gate" value
instead of a plain "gemrb" so that apt 1.1 pull the right set of dependencies.

Now, the wording of the generated long package description could
be special-cased to make it less weird.

+ if 'gemrb' in engine:
+ engine = 'gemrb'
   long_desc += ' Intended for use with: ' + engine

Further, I don't understand the split between "gemrb" & "libgemrb",
if those two 'any' package must always be present together & at the same
version;
couldn't they be merged in on package ?

> paths to the g-d-p data.

I suggest the path to be /usr/share/gemrb/baldurs-gate-1,
that would a symlink to /usr/share/gemrb/baldurs-gate-1-{en|de|fr|..}

Does the alternatives mechanism handle directories too ?

I'll try it !

Bug#802011: gedit: no standard window decoration + window filled black at start

2015-10-16 Thread Maria
Package: gedit
Version: 3.18.0-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

gedit does not use standard window decoration using XFCE. Although it provides
its own window buttons and is therefore usable it still is a layout / desktop-
integration bug (looks really ugly) and causes irritations with other people
using my computer sporadically (which therefore think this system is crap
making it harder to convince them giving Linux a chance).

The next thing is when opening gedit the frame at first appears completely
black for a second until the program is properly loaded.

This is always repeatable.

Thanks for your work - Maria

Bug#802005: debhelper: sort file lists passed to 'cp --parents -p' for reproducibility

2015-10-16 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: debhelper
Version: 9.20151005
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: toolchain timestamps
X-Debbugs-Cc: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org

As noticed by Santiago Vila [1], timestamps of directories created by
dh_installchangelogs (and probably dh_install and dh_installdocs) can
vary depending on the filesystem readdir() order.

This is because the 'cp --parents -p' calls create subdirectories with
different timestamps depending on the order of files processed. If the
directory gets created as a parent of an installed file, its timestamp
is first preserved, but if other files are later copied under it, the
stamp gets updated. There's a recipe that shows this happening in [2].

The simplest fix I can come up with is to add a 'sort -z' in the find +
xargs pipeline. See the attached proposed patches.

Please note that I've done only light testing of the patches, so review
would be very welcome. The line wrapping changings are because t/size
enforces a maximum of 160 characters per line.

FWIW, it seems to me that using 'cpio -pdm' instead of 'cp --parents -p'
would be cleaner and more efficient, but that's a more intrusive change
with more risk for breakage. And perhaps there's a reason for using 'cp'
that I'm missing?

Commit 71d06996481c6187b016c3b14b7e9faaf8adc432 changed most of the find
-exec invocations in dh_install* programs, but this one remains. Use

One issue is that you don't have gvfs-bin installed. Try installing it
and I'm sure xdg-open will work again. The Cinnamon packages really
should depend on it, like GNOME and MATE do.

The reason that it stopped working in the new version is (I think) that
I changed xdg-open to not try gnome-open when running under Cinnamon, as
gnome-open is obsolete and GNOME 2 only. Perhaps that was a mistake.

Still, the fallback generic mode should have worked. Apparently there is
no fallback code for the GNOME/Cinnamon mode in xdg-mime. I'll have to
fix that.

Did you upgrade systemd to 227-2 during that time? The systemd
maintainers wondered whether this might be
https://bugs.debian.org/801354 which had similar symptoms. The root
cause hasn't been found, but 227-2 reverts a commit which works around it.

You started to have this problem with systemd 227-1, which is the
version that regressed, so I suspect you might have had #801354.

Bug#802009: nautilus: crashes when removing many files

2015-10-16 Thread Andreas Cadhalpun
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.18.0-2+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

nautilus crashes, when removing many files at once.
This did not happen with nautilus 3.14.2-1.

Steps to reproduce:
$ mkdir -p /tmp/test; for i in {1..1}; do echo "$i" > /tmp/test/"$i"; done
$ nautilus /tmp
Now select the folder test, press + to permanently delete it and
select 'Delete' in the confirmation dialog.

Then nautilus crashes after removing some of the files.
It seems to be some sort of race condition, as it doesn't happen always.
Increasing the number of files increases the likelihood of the crash.

Here is the backtrace:

Hi,

that's a good suggestion. I will change that for all gemrb games. I also
agree with the package description patch, good idea.

Beats me. Perhaps we should CC Beren Minor (maintainer of gemrb) ?

Puh, I don't think so. Binaries can be handled by the alternative
mechanism... but directories? I think we should keep the current naming
scheme /usr/share/gemrb/baldurs-gate-1-{en|de|fr|..}. This ensures that
the user can install multiple versions in parallel. He only has to
change the /etc/gemrb/[game].conf file and set GamePath to one of these
directories.

It works for me too now. Good job. I have added the hashsums of the
Linux archive to the yaml file but I see the same behaviour again: g-d-p
verifies the archive and then it starts to download the same from
gog.com again, although I've provided it on the command line.

Bug#802007: totem-video-thumbnailer: large amount of GStreamer-CRITICAL errors

2015-10-16 Thread Geoffroy Aubry
Package: totem
Version: 3.14.0-2
Severity: normal

When using totem-video-thumbnailer with a *.flv video,

totem-video-thumbnailer test.flv test.png

I get a large amount of these errors

(totem-video-thumbnailer:14346): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_mini_object_unref:
assertion 'mini_object != NULL' failed

(totem-video-thumbnailer:14346): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_event_parse_seek:
assertion 'GST_IS_EVENT (event)' failed

This is also a problem as the log files /var/log/messages and user.log get very
big: several hundreds of MB for each new video on the system.

When using it with an *.avi video, it works perfectly without errors.

Bug#802016: pulseaudio: Suddenly switches sink for no apparent or reported reason

2015-10-16 Thread Christoph Egger
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 7.0-1
Severity: important

Hi!

While listening to mpd sound suddenly stopped in the middle of a
song. No action at all on the active X session at that time. Turns out
pulseaudio switched to the second soundcard for no apparent reason
whatsoever (didn't find any logoutput as well).

2015-10-16 Thread John Scott
Package: xmoto

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

I've noticed that in package version 0.5.11+dfsg-3, text, both during
gameplay and in the menus, does nor show and makes the game completely
unplayable. Downgrading to 0.5.11+dfsg-2 solves this issue. I'm using Intel
Ivybridge integrated graphics on Debian Unstable. This issue is present as soon
as the game is opened.

Bug#802018: systemd: _SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_REDIRECT=true is leaked to daemon

2015-10-16 Thread Sebastian Schmidt
Package: systemd
Version: 226-4
Severity: normal
Tags:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi,

/lib/lsb/init-functions.d/40-systemd exports
_SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_REDIRECT=true to detect when it has been called
recursively again by systemd. This export is actually never cleaned up and
is passed to the daemon. In the case of Puppet, which uses “/etc/init.d
$service $action” (without cleaning up the environment - which is
probably an issue by itself) to query and change a daemon’s status, this
causes the init.d hook to not redirect the call to systemd. For services
that supply an actual systemd unit which does not simply call the init
script (e.g. clamav-freshclam) this can cause the action to fail.

A trivial fix would be:
> --- a/debian/extra/init-functions.d/40-systemd
>   +++ b/debian/extra/init-functions.d/40-systemd
> @@ -25,6 +25,8 @@ if [ -d /run/systemd/system ]; then
>fi
>;;
>esac
> +elif [ -z "${_SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_REDIRECT:-}" ]; then
> +unset _SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_REDIRECT
>else
>export _SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_REDIRECT="true"
>fi

But this doesn’t fix the case when systemd is not calling the init
script twice (because the service has an actual unit). Since the
approach to guard the recursion with an environment variable relies on
systemd not cleaning up the environment I’m not sure how to best fix
this.

Sebastian

Bug#802010: gramps: PyGIWarning for OsmGpsMap and GExiv2

2015-10-16 Thread Vincent Smeets
Package: gramps

When I call gramps, it will show two PyGIWarnings. See my output below.
I think it's only a minor problem and doesn't do much harm, but warnings
show potential problems.
Can you check and fix these warnings?

Thanks,

Bug#802020: gnupg: PINENTRY_USER_DATA environment variable is not sent to pinentry

2015-10-16 Thread Antoine Amarilli
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.19-5
Severity: normal

The manpage of gpg states that the PINENTRY_USER_DATA environment variable is
passed via gpg-agent to pinentry. However this doesn't seem to be true. Setting
pinentry-program in ~/.gnupg-gpg-agent.conf to a script that dumps its
environment to a file, I don't see any PINENTRY_USER_DATA when calling gpg with
the following invocation:

  gpg --sign testfile

However, the exact same thing works with gpg2.

Looking around in the source tree for gnupg, I'm confused because it seems like
PINENTRY_USER_DATA isn't mentioned anywhere except in the doc. (It occurs in
gnupg2, however.) Unless I'm getting something wrong, PINENTRY_USER_DATA should
be removed from the gnupg documentation, or support for that variable should be
actually implemented.

Bug#801948: ftp-ssl downloaded files are 0 size

2015-10-16 Thread Matus UHLAR - fantomas

Package: ftp-ssl
Version: 0.17.33+0.2-1

when downloading file via ssl connection, the results are of size 0 and I'm
getting "error" message:
"netin: Success"

according to strace and tcpdump output, the file is written in plain form
back to the FTP server vi athe data connection instead of output file on
local disk.

I can provide strace and tcpdump output, if needed.

The package is already in NEW, and contains /usr/bin/yank-cli. I'll add
a note to README.Debian about that renaming, and also a recommendation
to alias it to something short : users of this package will be
command-line afficionados, and as such should probably not be

We should fix this for jessie, yes.
Given the amount of important bug fixes that went into policykit-1 after
0.105-8, I'm inclined to upload 0.105-12 as is to jessie.

To me it seems we want all of those fixes looking through the changelog.
The simplest would be uploading 0.105-12 from sid as 0.105-12~deb8u1 to
jessie.

There might be one or two changes, which aren't strictly stable
material, but I'm not convinced it's worth the effort to drop those changes.

Martin, what are your thoughts?

This is of course all pending an ok from the stable release team.

Fully agreed. Maintaining more combinations of patches doesn't seem
useful, and -12 got a month of testing now.

Hmm, indeed... But that shouldn't affect how it's built...
It would "just" miss some binary packages/features if it affected it,
but nothing affected the Writer macro tests ttbomk.

And he buildlog says:

checking the installed JDK... checked (JDK 1.7.0_85)
checking for JAWT lib... -L/usr/lib/jvm/default-java/jre/lib/amd64 -ljawt

so...

Balint will be in a better position to answer those. But on the RPi,
kodi-standalone runs on Frame Buffer. There is no X server.

kodi-standalone is just a shell script, doing some housekeeping. Here's
the main snippet on how it fires up kodi.

gtkmm 3.18 now uses and requires c++11. I've tried to rebuild

After that segmentation faults stopped.

As a temporary fix you could downgrate libgtkmm-3.0-1v5 to 3.16.

I'll take a look at this later today, thanks for preparing this! I
assume, considering what you wrote above, that you don't want to be

Bug#798778: systemd 226's init.scope breaks docker.io 1.7.1~dfsg1-1.

reassign 798778 docker.io 1.7.1~dfsg1-1
forwarded 798778 https://github.com/docker/docker/issues/16256
thanks

Reassigning to docker, as that needs to be adjusted for the new
/init.scope cgroup layout. At some point we really want to switch to
the unified cgroup hierarchy, and then pid 1 (or anything else) can't
be in the root cgroup any more.

For the record, this also affects LXC/cgmanager, see
https://github.com/lxc/lxc/issues/663 and
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1497420 .

Retroactively it of course would have been better to hold this back
until docker gets fixed. But none of the systemd maintainers use
docker, so we weren't aware of this, sorry! Our QA processes currently
don't include testing docker. If you are interested in doing this,
please contact me, and I'll show you the tests that we currently run
(mostly the autopkgtests for daily CI, but also some manual ones)
and how to integrate there.

Thanks,

Martin

Upstream Author : Paul Miller and contributors
* URL : https://github.com/paulmillr/es6-shim

Description : ECMAScript 6 compatibility shims for legacy

The es6-shim library monkey-patches a JavaScript context to contain all
ECMAScript 6 (Harmony) methods that can be faithfully emulated with a
 legacy JavaScript engine.
 .
The es6-sham part tries to complete the picture as best as possible,
but for those methods the result is not as close and mostly intends to
avoid runtime errors : in many cases it might just silently fail.

Hi,

The long description comes from upstream. This is complicated math stuff
(LP = linear problem solving), so I don't expect everyone to understand.

I have removed the brackets stuff which were in fact references to other
Python modules:
[1] http://www.gnu.org/software/glpk/glpk.html
[2] http://www.coin-or.org/
[3] http://www.cplex.com/
[4] http://www.gurobi.com/

Now, thanks for your suggestion, though if you don't come with a better
long description, it isn't very helpful. I don't believe I am able to
write one myself.

Cheers,

All I know is from Gnulib’s Git history. The first commit is:

  commit db2e703a947dd6ceb7c2a921bae15193d9b4
  Author: Simon Josefsson
  Date: Wed Jul 12 07:27:31 2006 +

  Add gendocs, from texinfo.

Then in Texinfo’s repo, I see:

  commit cb29b58c3f6b4a635768fcf04eb3ec0e3b36baff
  Author: Karl Berry
  Date: Tue Oct 21 23:34:12 2003 +

  (EXTRA_DIST): add gendocs.sh and gendocs_template.

My guess is that it’s just a matter of adding a copyright notice and
license in there (assuming it’s copyrightable at all…)

Karl: WDYT?

Yes, this is correct, see e.g.

I've translated APT too and there's purge always translated with "vollständig
entfernen". In cases like this, we got a website with best practices:
https://wiki.debian.org/Wortliste
But you can clarify this by setting »purge« in parentheses after »vollständig
entfernen«.

Actually, I'd use https://pmount.alioth.debian.org/ and just update
the web page accordingly. Or is that not wanted for some reason? I'd
expect that all group members should have write access to the web
page, too.

> Sound I change it back?

You never changed it forward. There was no Homepage header before. So
the addition is definitely an improvement, with either value. :-)

Bug#801953: No progress bars on copy/move operations

2015-10-16 Thread Simon John
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.18.0-2+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I've noticed a few bugs in Nautilus (Files) that have just been
introduced to sid all at the same time from 3.18, that were not present
in 3.16:

1. There are no progress bars on copy/move (etc.) operations.

2. The Properties option is greyed out when selecting a file on an NFS
share. All filetypes as far as I can see, and I can view the properties
of the same files on a local disk just fine.

3. The icons are huge - even "small" is 58px, its not theme-related as
changing it makes no difference. I can not think of any use case for the
medium/large setting they are so big.

libgtk-3-bin is not an M-A:same package, so it shouldn't be qualified,
this seems to be a dpkg problem:

$ dpkg-query  --show -f='${binary:Package}\n' libgtk-3-bin
libgtk-3-bin
$ dpkg-query --admindir=/tmp/piupartss/tmpiAokhZ/var/lib/dpkg --show
-f='${binary:Package}\n' libgtk-3-bin
libgtk-3-bin:i386
$ sudo chroot /tmp/piupartss/tmpiAokhZ dpkg-query  --show
-f='${binary:Package}\n' libgtk-3-bin
libgtk-3-bin

ok, adding amd64 as a foreign architecture and installing hello:amd64 in the
chroot:

$ sudo chroot /tmp/piupartss/tmpiAokhZ dpkg-query  --show
-f='${binary:Package}\n' hello
hello:amd64
$ dpkg-query --admindir=/tmp/piupartss/tmpiAokhZ/var/lib/dpkg --show
-f='${binary:Package}\n' hello
hello

I would expect the output from dpkg to be consistent from inside and
outside the chroot.

which is a regression from jessie :-( (since I recently updated my host to
stretch)
(jessie is maybe not correct w.r.t. the foreign hello package):

$ /tmp/pbuilder/build/8258/usr/bin/dpkg-query  --version
Debian dpkg-query package management program query tool version 1.17.25 (amd64).

$ /tmp/pbuilder/build/8258/usr/bin/dpkg-query
--admindir=/tmp/piupartss/tmpiAokhZ/var/lib/dpkg --show
-f='${binary:Package}\n' libgtk-3-bin hello libc6
hello
libc6:amd64
libc6:i386
libgtk-3-bin

Bug#801757: Pinentry displays password while typing

2015-10-16 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

After finding the setting that is the real source of the problem, I
tracked that file down. I took it very long ago from a existing debian
system and tweaked the parameter about gtk-recent-files-enabled and one
or the other. Unfortunately the change in pinentry that caused the
problem was unseen.

As I expect that the change will be kept, I propose a warning in NEWS
file about it so admins are aware of maybe upcoming problems.

Other solution would, of course, be to revert that change.

I'm not having any luck with this, ant -debug is printing:
Override ignored for property "file.encoding"
when I tried to set it via ant.properties

I might leave this one for the experts, this one is frustrating me ;-)

Bug#689854: pmount needs some loving care

2015-10-16 Thread Simon McVittie
On 15/10/15 21:04, Vincent Fourmond wrote:
> I'm OK to give input, and do few things from time to time...

It seems I'm still in the Cc list because I said something about the
adoption a while ago. To clarify, I do not intend to get involved in
this package's maintenance, and anything I say about it is only a
suggestion.

I do have one comment, which is that the package Description could
perhaps benefit from updating: it describes pmount's original
motivation, which was as a backend for GNOME and other GUI stuff.
However, GNOME and other "large" desktop environments have stopped using
it in favour of the more featureful (but correspondingly heavier-weight)
udisks2, leaving pmount as a potentially useful tool in its own right,
but no longer directly used by GNOME.

(No value-judgement intended here - pmount is simple and small; udisks2
is more complex and larger; and either could be more suitable than the
other, depending on your requirements.)

The major differences:

* udisks2 is a privileged D-Bus system service (daemon), controlled
via D-Bus messages by an accompanying (unprivileged) CLI tool or by
other unprivileged processes like the various GNOME GUIs that use it.
pmount is a setuid CLI tool (a privilege boundary) with no daemon,
  which can be executed directly or by an unprivileged frontend;
less complexity, but more need to cope with the security implications
  of being setuid.

* udisks2 has a broader scope, and also handles non-mount operations
on disk devices, such as partitioning and SMART. pmount has a
narrower scope, and only (un)mounts disks.

* udisks2 uses PolicyKit for access control, with a relatively subtle
default policy designed to "do what I mean" (locally-logged-in users
can mount removable disks on the same "seat" where they are currently
logged-in), but configurable to have other policies (e.g.
  a group-based override) if that's what a sysadmin wants. pmount's
policy is simpler, using group-ownership to allow any user in the
plugdev group to mount removable disks, whether they are logged-in
locally or remotely; this is simple and easy to understand if you
know how Unix groups work, but can lead to unexpected results if the
system is multi-seat or has remote access (users taking control of
  each other's USB drives).

Hopefully that's enough information for a Description that indicates to
a potential user whether pmount is suitable for their needs. In
particular, it seems worthwhile to mention "users in the plugdev group"
in the Description.

I can answer that :)

In n64 gp is callee saved, whereas in o32 it is caller saved, so you
are correct. Since this is an absolute requirement of the ABI, I doubt
there are any compiler switches for it.

Bug#801951: debian/copyright should mention BSD3 license, not PSF

2015-10-16 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: python3-dateutil
Version: 2.2-2
Severity: important

debian/copyright currently refers to (various incarnations of...) the PSF
license, whereas python-dateutil has been relicense under BSD3 a while ago.
See http://sources.debian.net/src/python-dateutil/latest/LICENSE/ for
reference. debian/copyright should be updated (and can be widely simplified /
shortened) to refer to BSD3.

Thanks a lot for maintaining python-dateutil in Debian, it's much appreciated!

Cheers.
