Rowan,

Can you please test the following .deb package ? The only delta is the patch you
submitted. I'd appreciate if you tested this .deb package, with LMT Verbosity
enabled, and shared the results.

https://people.debian.org/~rrs/tmp/laptop-mode-tools_1.71-2_all.deb

I'll then seek exception from the Debian Release Team.

Thanks,
Ritesh

My argument was that the version in the symbols file is used by dpkg to
determine versioned dependencies on your package. If you always bump
the versions on all symbols in the symbols file, you basically reduce it
to a very long shlibs file (and we lose the benefit of having a symbols
file in the first place).

I don't know what lintian warning/error it was, so I cannot say whether
you should have kept the old file or not. That said, as with all static
analysis tools, you cannot trust it blindly.

Thanks Michael. I just checked upstream and this issue is reported and fixed

Bug#863009: fonts-hack-web: Please start packaging woff2 (and perhaps ttf-web / svg) fonts

2017-05-19 Thread Boyuan Yang
Package: fonts-hack-web
Version: 2.020-1
Severity: wishlist

README.Debian says it does not distribute the WOFF2 and ttf-web fonts since
there is no need. Now we have one:

While working for the packaging for pagure (ITP #829046), We found that pagure
is using a bundled fonts-hack in various places and at least referencing woff2
fonts in css files. As a result, it would be great if src:fonts-hack can
provide those files commented out in the build instructions so that we could
just replace bundled files easily.

Pagure is likely to be the successor of fusionforge on alioth.d.o, but we have
to make sure pagure could enter Debian repository first.

Bug#765104: Update hfsprogs to 572.1.1

2017-05-19 Thread Pablo Roberto Lezaeta Reyes
Good to know.
The only "Drawback" I find is that hfs (normal just plain hfs) support is
not pressent since in Mac OS X 10.6 it was moved to the kernel for
read-only support.
but that is solvable with hfsutils making it a recommendation (or just
forking and modernising it).

But just for hfs+ for me work ok.

My feeling is based on what other packages do. Take python-pip for
example, _vendor dir is not removed in source tree, but removed in
dh_auto_build pass.

IMHO, this way we keep the source tree more consistent with upstream.

I'm not so experient with debian package, maybe wrong here :)

Bug#863008: failing to load previously-loaded pages of some websites

2017-05-19 Thread Zefram
Package: lynx-cur
Version: 2.8.9dev1-2+deb8u1
Severity: important

Lynx has developed a habit of finding it difficult to load the same web
page twice in one session, for pages in some websites but not others.
The envelope of this bug is a bit tricky.

As far as I can see, within any particular Lynx session this bug affects
a fixed set of websites: a site that is affected is affected for the
whole session, and a site that does not exhibit the problem won't come
to exhibit it later in the session. A "website" for this purpose is
the combination of scheme prefix and authority part of a URL. All paths
within a website are affected together. I have not been able to determine
whether different scheme/authority combinations that involve the same
hostname can be affected distinct from each other, but ones involving
different hostnames are definitely distinct. The websites that I have
found affected so far are only HTTPS ones.

Which websites are affected is mostly consistent between Lynx sessions.
For the past few weeks I have found that is
affected in all my Lynx sessions. Recently
has come to be affected in most sessions, but not entirely consistently.
Most websites remain unaffected. I have no idea what distinguishes the
affected websites from unaffected ones.

Where the bug is in effect, the first loading of any page from an affected
website works normally, but then any second or subsequent attempt to
load the same page shortly thereafter fails. This happens for almost
any means of invoking a page load: following a link from another page,
typing in the URL manually, or following a link from the browser's
"visited links" page. But page loading succeeds if invoked by following
a link from the browser's "history" page, by using the "u" command to pop
the history stack, or by using the ^R command to reload the current page.
Where page loading fails due to this bug, there is activity in the status
line that seems to reflect a network request, but then the activity ends
and the status line returns to normal without changing page, as if the
request to load the affected page had never been made.

The inability to load a page twice applies separately to each page in the
affected website. Loading a different page (with different URL) works.
Many pages from the same website may be loaded in sequence. But then
attempting to load the same pages again fails: each previously-loaded
page cannot be loaded again. Such failing page loads can be arbitrarily
interleaved with successful first-time page loads.

However, an attempted repeated page load may succeed if enough activity
has taken place since the first (successful) load of that page. "Enough
activity" seems to be constituted by successful loads of sufficiently
many other pages. (Perhaps a caching issue?) Repeatedly attempting to
load a failing page, with no other activity between attempts, doesn't
make it succeed. After a successful repeated page load, further attempts
to load the same page again go back to failing.

I see. Then, this can be solved by defining INDICATOR_ENGINE_ICON.

Let's see what we have in Debian testing:

plasma-workspace

testing 4:5.8.6-2
unstable 4:5.8.6-2
Ubuntu 4:5.9.5.1-0ubuntu1

qtbase-opensource-src

ld-bpo: 5.3.2+dfsg-4+deb8u1~bpo70+1
stable: 5.3.2+dfsg-4+deb8u2
testing: 5.7.1+dfsg-3
unstable: 5.7.1+dfsg-3
exp: 5.9.0~beta.3+dfsg-1

OK, we have
 plasma-workspace 5.8 >> 5.2
 qtbase-opensource-src 5.7.1 >> 5.4

So we need to define INDICATOR_ENGINE_ICON.

directory before had less than a megabyte of compressed test logs.

foo@bar:/tmp/jdk/usr/share/doc/openjdk-7-jre-headless$ du -sk *

Sorry, I still do not understand. Why is there a need to escape
filenames when calling other tools? For example,

execve("/usr/bin/tar", { "cf", "compl cated.tar", NULL });

should work perfectly fine without any need for escaping.

As in the description: Xarchiver is a GUI frontend for various separate
tools which are invoked by Xarchiver. The program must ensure that
characters in filenames and archive names are properly escaped when it
passes them to the respective tools like tar or 7z.

Why is there a need for any escaping at all? I would have expected that
tar/xz/whatever is invoked directly, but this almost sounds if
xarchiver goes through a shell..?!

Bug#863006: python-cassandra-driver: build-depends on python{,3}-all-{dbg,dev} without using

2017-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: python-cassandra-driver
Version: 3.7.1-2.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu artful ubuntu-patch

Hi Sandro,

In Ubuntu, we've begun the transition from python3.5 to python3.6, which in
the first stages involves enabling python3.6 as a non-default, supported
python3 version.

The python-cassandra-driver package build-depends on
python{,3}-all-{dbg,dev}, but does not build for any but the default version
of python2 and python3.

Attached is the patch I've applied to Ubuntu, to change the
build-dependencies to python{,3}-{dbg,dev}, which avoids this package
unnecessarily being targeted for rebuilds. You may wish to consider
applying it in Debian.

Thanks,

Providing more than one is fine. It appears that there was an
undetected/unintended ABI break between 11.1 and 11.2, so 11.0 and 11.1 should
be dropped.

Hi.

So many moons since I dont talk about this but I was bussy.
So lets return with all i find.

Fedora is packageing a package called *hfsplus-tools* [1] at version
540.1.linux3 at first look look like a fork of hfsprogs and if you look is
somekind a fork but not in the traditional sence.
I did some testing and efectively is just an adaptation of hfsprogs to a
newer version (540.1) at the moment of creation of it.

So we somekind solve our problem of an now 10yo version... somekind since
it still old compared with lastest 589 [2] but at least it have security
upgrades and I think is still compatible with latest hfs+ disk

So now the question is you will use this package (either keeping the name,
changin it to upstream name or using fedora name) or not? anyway it need
test sure and probably could land in Debian X.

Aye, this was already reported and fixed in git.

That's because of different dependencies solvers used, I expect ppc64 to
be the only one to have chosen to install debhelper from experimental
instead of going with the version in unstable (which would be enough to
satisfy the dependencies), but I won't look at all the logs.

I came to a similar conclusion but I wondered whether the real issue is
the wrongly escaped path.

I think this issue is related to #697493 where it was found that
archives with spaces could not be created. I tried to fix bug #862593 by
modifying line 372 in src/window.c in the xa_open_archive function.

archive[current_page]->escaped_path = xa_escape_bad_chars
(archive[current_page]->path,"$\'`\"\\!?* ()&|@#:;");

My solution was to change the line to

archive[current_page]->escaped_path = g_strdup(path);

This worked for all archives with special characters except the one
mentioned in this bug report with backslash and spaces.

I think escaping backslashes and spaces is not handled correctly
somewhere in the code but I have just briefly tested your patch and it
seems to do the trick.

Chris, could you cancel the NMU? I do the upload today after I have done
some more tests and credit you in the changelog. Thanks for the patch!

Markus

Hi Alastair,

Again, like for xdmf in bug #863000, pyferret is invoking py{,3}versions in
a way that expands to multiple words while transitions are in process, but
isn't set up to handle this so fails to build. Attached is the patch
applied in Ubuntu to fix the build failure by switching to py{,3}versions -d

Bug#863003: magics++ should build-depend on python3-dev, not python3-all-dev

2017-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: magics++
Version: 2.30.0-5
Severity: important

User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com

Hi Alastair,

As with bug #863000 on xdmf, magics++ build-depends on python3-all-dev but
does not build for more than one python3 version. In the case of magics++
this doesn't cause a build failure, but it is still wrong usage of the
python3-all-dev build-dependency. Please find attach the small patch to
debian/control, applied in Ubuntu, to switch from -all-dev to -dev.

Thanks,

thanks

The archive gets overwritten as the test to see whether it already exists
(to determine whether to create a new one or simply add a new file) uses
an escaped path.

Patch attached.

What's wrong with just adding one to the package for the test?
It doesn't have to be generated on the fly, just make (or take)
a suitable one and include it in the debian source.

Bug#829046: Bundled third-party libraries should not be used

On 19-May-2017, Shengjing Zhu wrote:

Can you explain why?

Removing files from the source is one of the most straightforward way
to be certain that the Debian source package does not use them, and
instead declares the dependency on a separate Debian package for those
files.

Why do you say that is not ideal?

Debian Policy §4.13 states the Debian package should not use those
bundled third-party libraries, so I am not sure what you mean by
bundled libraries being “more convenient” when in one directory.

Do you mean, more convenient for removing those files?

We recommend mirrors not sync directly from service aliases such as
ftp..debian.org (only http is guaranteed to be available at ftp..d.o
sites).

In particular, ftp.us.debian.org is many different servers which makes syncing
from them a bad idea. Please pick one specific site (and maybe not one in the
US?)

Bug#863000: xdmf attempts to support multiple python versions but FTBFS

2017-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: xdmf
Version: 3.0+git20160803-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu artful ubuntu-patch

Hi Alastair,

In Ubuntu, we've begun the transition from python3.5 to python3.6, which in
the first stages involves enabling python3.6 as a non-default, supported
python3 version.

The xdmf package fails to build in this configuration because it uses
python3-all-dev and py3versions -s, with the intention of supporting
multiple python versions, but debian/rules doesn't actually use this
correctly - it assumes the output of py3versions -s is a single word:

PY3:=$(shell py3versions -s)m

I don't see any specific reason that this package needs to support all
available versions of python3 rather than just supporting the default, so
I've applied the attached patch in Ubuntu to switch it from py3versions -s
to py3versions -d.

Please consider applying this in Debian as well, since this will become a
build failure there when the python3.6 transition starts (after the stretch
release).

That's most certainly a different issue.
tracker uses uses a seccomp sandbox for its extractors nowadays.
The error you get is most likely a result of that.

Bug#862999: totem: crash of totem about join-packages at the start of "vidéos" (french version)

2017-05-19 Thread Benoit
Package: totem
Version: 3.14.0-2
Severity: grave
Tags: newcomer
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Nothing, an utilisation "standard" of Debian, watch films on HDD, or
videos on youtube, for example.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
I can't read any downloaded video on the computer with "vidéos"
(french version), but everything is ok with VLC player. So, seemingly, codecs
are operational on my computer.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
A standard start of totem, without error message.

Bug#861298: Location of sample ogg file

2017-05-19 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Thank you for investigating. The patch look good, but I believe it can
not be applied right away, due to issues with other packages. I'll try
to explain.

The problem at hand seem to be that pygame in unstable (but not testing)
changed[1], and introduced a new python-pygame-doc with the file we use
in oggvideotools to get a random sample ogg file, causing the build of
oggvideotools to fail. The build failure is only in unstable, and do
not affect testing. The new version of pygame is unlikely to make it
into testing because it contain too many changes. We want to make sure
any new uploads of oggvideotool done to unstable are suitable for
testing, and thus can not change the build dependency to include the
python-pygame-doc package that is missing in testing.

 [1]
http://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs/main/p/pygame/unstable_changelog

I suspect the two options we have is (1) find another package with a
sample ogg file to use during the self testing or (2) generate a ogg
file on the fly to do the self testing. Any suggestions for (1) or (2)?

The bug version information here is problematic, as the problem is with
the version currently in testing and unstable, but the problem only
exist in unstable. And as long as the bug is flagged as valid for the
version in unstable, it will cause oggvideotools to be removed from
testing, even though the problem do not exist there.

CC to the release managers, in case any of you have a tip on how to best
handle this? Perhaps tag it to ignore this bug in stretch?

I just recompiled libvirt 3.0.0-4 just now and enabled esx support and
it seems to work OK with a vCenter 5.5 and virsh.

Could you please have a look again at enabling that? RHEL/Fedora and
Ubuntu are also shipping with ESX support enabled, I guess there would
be enough to support/assist if there is a bug found in debian.

Kind regards,

Bug#758100: versioned provides coming up for perl 5.26

2017-05-19 Thread Niko Tyni
Update on versioned provides and perl: we discussed this at the 2017
Perl team sprint in Lloret de Mar, and it looks like all the blockers
for this have been resolved. I intend to switch to versioned provides
for the upcoming 5.26 packages, targeted for buster.

This starts a soft transition where all packages with alternative
dependencies like

perl (>= x) | libfoo-bar-perl (>= y)
libfoo-bar-perl (>= y) | perl (>= x)

can be changed to use just the libfoo-bar-perl (>= y) part.

The alternative dependency on perl was always just an optimization to
avoid needlessly installing the separate package when it was already
recent enough in the core. With versioned provides this optimization
is no longer necessary.

The plan is to push this into experimental soon, then test rebuild
packages as usual to verify that nothing is clearly broken. After that,
I intend to raise this one more on debian-devel@ and possibly with
the release team, in case somebody's aware of any more blockers in the
archive infrastructure etc.

r-base in testing is 3.3.3-1
r-base in unstable is 3.4.0-1 and is blocked from migration due to #861333

r-cran-sp (and many packages) will need to recompiled for R 3.4.0
I guess this will only take place after the release of Stretch, which
includes R 3.3.3

Well, it's not really re-created on every boot, just if /etc/mtab is
*not* a relative symlink to ../proc/self/mounts.

debootstrap from sid creates /etc/mtab as relative symlink to
../proc/mounts afaics (the version from jessie seems to create it as an
absolute symlink to /proc/mounts)

So I guess the problem here is that there is a mismatch between what
debootstrap creates and what systemd-tmpfiles (i.e. debian.conf) expects.

In jessie we handled this slightly differently [1]. We had a dedicated
service unit which checked if /etc/mtab was a symlink. So we didn't run
into the issue there, that the symlink can be absolute or relative and
point to either /proc/mounts or /proc/self/mounts.

We chose ../proc/self/mounts in debian.conf since that's also what's
used by systemd upstream [2], i.e. we are consistent with other distros
in that aspect.

Maybe we can change debootstrap to use ../proc/self/mounts or is there a
good reason why it should point to ../proc/mounts?

CCed the debootstrap maintainers for their input.

Regards,
Michael

Bug#862580: Bug #862580: Winbind crashes on ssh login of a domain user.

2017-05-19 Thread Christian Meyer
Hello Louis and Mathieu,

thanks for your fast reply.
I'm using 2:4.5.8+dfsg amd64 from stretch and my Debian machines are
members of a Windows 2008R2 DC Active Directory ("net ads join ...")
with a single server and about 100 Windows 7 members and 40 Debian
members. ("Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER")

I followed the guide from
https://wiki.debian.org/AuthenticatingLinuxWithActiveDirectory
and changed some settings in smb.conf to fix certain issues after
reading 'man smb.conf' (and various online sources from forums, howtos,
tutorials, up to https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/* and
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection )

Samba configuration worked acceptable for jessie: about 3 to 8 login
issues a day with 40+ Computers and about 60-70 domain logins.
Testparm dumps the following service definitions (without shares):

# Global parameters
[global]
realm = WORK.COMPANY
workgroup = WORK
domain master = No
local master = No
os level = 0
preferred master = No
client ldap sasl wrapping = seal
log file = /var/log/samba/winbind-debug.log
name resolve order = lmhosts host bcast
password server = 172.16.0.1 *
restrict anonymous = 2
security = ADS
template shell = /bin/bash
winbind enum groups = Yes
winbind enum users = Yes
winbind refresh tickets = Yes
winbind use default domain = Yes
idmap config * : range = 11000-2
idmap config * : backend = tdb

There are some things missing in testparms output, that are in smb.conf:
   client use spnego = yes
   client ntlmv2 auth = yes
   encrypt passwords = yes
   log level = 2 winbind:3
   template homedir = /home/%D/%U

testparm says:
"The setting 'security=ads' should NOT be combined with the 'password
server' parameter."
Since I had problems with WINS and name resolution (e.g. failing
nmblookup) I decided to use 'password server' anyway and to remove WINS.

I'm only using the tdb backend since SID/uid/gid mapping is not that
important for me (I work with temporary user accounts and all user data
is stored on the Windows 2008R2 DC in NTFS shares). Homedirs of domain
users are created with pam_mkhomedir and deleted on logout.
The range starts with 11000 because I had different backends some time
ago, but that has been before I installed the current machine.

I would like to test samba-4.5.9 or samba-4.6 (or at least the new
testparm), but I didn't build samba from sources before.

Thanks for your interest,

Christian Meyer

The facility that this package relies on no longer exists in the
post-Netscape Mozilla codebase, and won't be re-added:

  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36925
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64598

(Chrome and Chromium similarly have no such facility.)

So yes, I agree that there's not much point keeping this around in the
archive out of nostalgia. ftpmaster, please remove browser-history.

Bug#862992: systemd: avoid attempt to re-create /etc/mtab by systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service

2017-05-19 Thread Maximilian Stein
Package: systemd
Version: 232-23
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After having upgraded to Stretch, I noticed that
systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service attempts to create /etc/mtab as
configured in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/debian.conf. Unfortunately, this
does not work on some of my machines where / is mounted read-only and
consequently, systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service fails.

Moreover, this step does not seem to be necessary, as /etc/mtab is
symlinked to /proc/mounts after a fresh debootstrap. /proc/mounts in
turn symlinks to /proc/self/mounts, the same file as configured in
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/debian.conf.

What exactly are the reasons for re-creating /etc/mtab on every boot? Is
this step really necessary?

For now, I just use Jessie's version of /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/debian.conf.

Best,
Maximilian Stein

Bug#862987: browser-history: Is the package still working and useful?

2017-05-19 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: browser-history
Version: 2.8-21
Severity: serious

As observed by Salvo Tomaselli, the description says:
It works with: Netscape Navigator, Arena, and Amaya. Support for
`browser-history' can easily be added to other browsers, provided you can
program and have the browser sources.

This is either the (non-RC) issue of a completely outdated description
or the package is now mostly useless.

Also looking at:
Browser-history came from the will to overcome a Netscape bug: there is no
global history, and if you close a window, its whole history is lost.

This might have been true in some (pre-Mozilla) versions of Netscape
in the last millenium, but not during the past 15 years.

There was enough time to report those bugs before the hard freeze. We
need to be informed otherwise we can't act.

Debian version is affected.

Another possibility is to take script files from version 3.1 and use them with

As to why the bugs are not reported here, it is possible that the users don't

+This is a bit complicated because AArch64, as a completely new architecture,

Bug#860055: ITP: dino -- modern XMPP client

2017-05-19 Thread Stefan Bühler
Hi,

I gave packaging dino a try:

https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:stbuehler/dino

* "dino" is already used as package name. I went for "dino-xmpp-client"
  instead.
* I bundled libsignal-protocol-c as a separate tar ball.
Longterm #840366 should be used instead ofc.
* It fails to build on 32-bit in gpgme due to (missing) largefile
flags. Not sure how to handle this - gpgme says one should use
  -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.
* Tarballs created with "git pack-dist" in the dino checkout (including
submodules!), and the following in .git/config:

[alias]
pack-dist = "!sh -c 'git archive --format=tar.xz --prefix=dino/ HEAD -o
\"../dino-xmpp-client_$(git log --date=format:%Y%m%d -1
--pretty=format:%ad-g%h).orig.tar.xz\"; git -C
plugins/signal-protocol/libsignal-protocol-c archive --format=tar.xz
--prefix=libsignal-protocol-c/ HEAD -o \"../../../../dino-xmpp-client_$(git log
--date=format:%Y%m%d -1
--pretty=format:%ad-g%h).orig-libsignal-protocol-c.tar.xz\"'"

Hope this helps :)

cheers,
Stefan

Hi,

what is the current status of lxd packaging?
It would be really nice to have lxd in debian (even if it's only in backports) by the end of the year.

How could I be helpful to speed up the process? :)

Bug#862978: [Pkg-zsh-devel] Bug#862978: zsh: `kill -L` doesn't work

On Fri, May 19, 2017, at 14:36, Robbie Harwood wrote:

> this:

The -L option exists in the system's kill command (/bin/kill) but not in zsh's
builtin kill command (which you get when you type a bare 'kill'). That is fine
because the -L command is a Linux extension to the standard, as documented in
both kill(1) and kill(1p) (the latter from the manpages-posix package).

So, if you want the -L option, call the system's kill command, not the zsh
builtin one. For example:

% =kill -L
% /bin/kill -L

Bottom line: everything works as expected/documented.

Cheers,

Daniel

P.S. The reason for having a builtin kill command is to make things like
`kill %2` possible (= killing a job by job number).

Bug#862980: Update the homepage, to show the social face of the project, and be more attractive for newcomers

At the Diversity and Inclusion BoF in MiniDebConf Cambridge 2016 [1]
it has been suggested to update the Debian website frontpage exposing
more the social part of the project (currently, it's very centered in
Debian the OS).

[1]:
http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2016/miniconf_cambridge16/Diversity_and_Inclusion_BoF.webm

Other suggestions/comments, in order to make the website more
attractive to newcomers:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2017/05/msg00134.html
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2017/05/msg00157.html

A rewording of the two paragraphs about Debian in the homepage could
be a good start.

Current content is:

https://www.debian.org/;>Debian is a
free operating system (OS) for yourcomputer.
An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that
make your computer run.

Debian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over
 packages,
precompiled software bundled
up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine. Read more...

One source of inspiration could be the paragraph that we include in
our announcements:

The Debian Project is an association of Free Software developers
who volunteer their time and effort
in order to produce the completely free operating system Debian.

For sending your proposals, any way is welcome:
* Plain text with the new paragraphs
* html
* diff against the current source file:

Bug#862978: zsh: `kill -L` doesn't work

2017-05-19 Thread Robbie Harwood
Package: zsh
Version: 5.3.1-4+b1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

As per kill(1), -L should generate a pretty list of signals and values. Like
this:

rharwood@thriss:~$ /bin/kill -L
 1 HUP 2 INT 3 QUIT 4 ILL 5 TRAP 6 ABRT 7 BUS
 8 FPE 9 KILL10 USR111 SEGV12 USR213 PIPE14 ALRM
15 TERM16 STKFLT 17 CHLD18 CONT19 STOP20 TSTP21 TTIN
22 TTOU23 URG 24 XCPU25 XFSZ26 VTALRM 27 PROF28 WINCH
29 POLL30 PWR 31 SYS

However, it does not. Instead, it does this:

rharwood@thriss:~$ kill -L
kill: unknown signal: SIGL
kill: type kill -l for a list of signals

Moreover, this should be a synonym:

rharwood@thriss:~$ kill --table
kill: unknown signal: SIG-TABLE
kill: type kill -l for a list of signals

I don't really know whether zsh should implement these, but it should respond
correctly to the flag (even if it means calling out to /bin/kill). For
reference, here's what bash does:

rharwood@thriss:~$ kill -L

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

Bug#862975: laptop-mode-tools: Fails to modify wireless txpower using "fixed" with "iw"

2017-05-19 Thread Rowan Thorpe
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.71-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

When using the wireless-power module (with its config-file unmodified), it
fails to enable wireless powersavings. When running with debugging enabled,
and when running the borked internal command manually:

> sudo iw dev wlan0 set txpower fixed

it shows:

> Missing TX power level argument.

When I manually run the command with an added parameter, e.g.:

> sudo iw dev wlan0 set txpower fixed 1

and then check the result with:

> sudo iw dev wlan0 info

it shows the updated value OK. Note that the lowest value it accepts in my
case is 1, not 0.

This has been fixed (actually, avoided) upstream with the following sequence
of commits:

https://github.com/rickysarraf/laptop-mode-tools/commit/3644486a9ee4fda7887fa0ecf224e66c4d12a0d2
https://github.com/rickysarraf/laptop-mode-tools/commit/791191702b91f7e23b280f35e292869631f5ba22
https://github.com/rickysarraf/laptop-mode-tools/commit/9ca191ff3e5b002f759d69435f14c7f54020085f

Namely, they use:

> iw dev wlan0 set power_save [on/off]

and *no* txpower settings if "iw" is available, falling back to the old
txpower commands with iwconfig (and fixed a variable typo in the test).

So it would be good if upstream's new way of running the two commands could
be backported as a Debian patch while we wait for upstream to make the next
release for packaging. For that purpose I attached a diff by merging the
relevant parts of the above 3 commits (note it is the diff that should be
turned into a Debian patch, not a diff for creating the debian patch itself).
