Bug#992319: RM: nekobee -- RoQA, unmaintained, RC-buggy, dead-upstream, python2

2021-08-16 Thread Tobias Frost
Package: nekobee
Severity: serious

nekobee is currently RC buggy with 2 RC bugs, (one being a gcc 10 and one being
a python-removal-bug; upstream seems dead as well with only a minor commit last
year.
The Debian package has seen the last upload 5 years ago, and missed bullseye,
so it looks unmaintained from here.

I guess this software is EOL and should probably be removed from the archives.

Dear maintainer,

If you disagree, just close this bug.
If you agree, please reassign this bug to ftp.d.o to make the RM happening.
I will do the latter in exactly 3 months from now if there is no answer on this
bug.

So I guess the original forwarding is not correct;
removing the tag and forwarded notation.

Bug#992316: transition: libavif

2021-08-16 Thread Boyuan Yang
Package: release.debian.org
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition
X-Debbugs-CC: by...@debian.org norb...@preining.info
Severity: normal

I plan to start libavif transition as shown in the following transition
tracker:

https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-libavif.html

The new version of libavif library has bumped SONAME and needs a transition.
The only reverse build-dependency is kimageformats, and I have verified that
the build would still pass with the new libavif currently in experimental.

Example Ben file (the one currently on auto-libavif page should be ok):

title = "libavif";
is_affected = .depends ~ "libavif9" | .depends ~ "libavif12";
is_good = .depends ~ "libavif12";
is_bad = .depends ~ "libavif9";

This would be a really tiny transition, and I expect that we can finish it
very soon.

Thanks,
Boyuan Yang

Bug#992310: openssh-server: debian10/11: ssh from ipv6 address not in /etc/hosts.allow = sshd segfault

2021-08-16 Thread raf
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:8.4p1-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I just noticed many many sshd segfaults listed in
/var/log/kern.log. There are two versions. They look
like this:

sshd: segfault at 7ffd4a0c4a90 ip 7fa42b77d817
  sp 7ffd4a0c4a60 error 6 in
  libc-2.28.so[7fa42b741000+148000]

sshd: segfault at 7fff0f6b7368 ip 7fb1d004d0ff
  sp 7fff0f6b7370 error 6 in
  libwrap.so.0.7.6[7fb1d004c000+5000]

The hex addresses are different each time, but the rest
is the same.

It happens everytime there's an incoming ssh connection
attempt via IPv6 when the IPv6 address isn't listed in
/etc/hosts.allow. There are many because it's from a
cronned backup job.

I am using /etc/hosts.allow for sshd and have a mixture
of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses in it.

The remote host in question used to connect via IPv4,
but it recently got itself an IPv6 address and started
using that. But that was more than 4 days ago when the
segfaults started. I don't know of anything that
changed on that day.

When I added the IPv6 address to /etc/hosts.allow, the
segfaults stopped and the connections worked.

In case it matters, I'm putting IPv6 addresses between
[] without a /prefixlen in /etc/hosts.allow.

Strangely, the log messages started appearing 2 days
before I upgraded to debian-11. And the libc-bin
version in the logs is libc-2.28 which is the version
for debian-10, but I'm still getting the segfaults 2
days after upgrading to debian-11 where the libc-bin
version is 2.31. The libwrap version in the logs seems
to match the current one (libwrap0:amd64 7.6.q-31). I
can't find the version for debian-10. Perhapas it was
7.6 as well.

I did reboot after the upgrade (or did I?), so I don't
understand why there are still log messages mentioning
the old libc version.

I've rebooted again, and the logs now mention the
current debian11 package versions:

  sshd[1086]: segfault at 7fff615eaec8 ip
  7ff2a586f42f sp 7fff615eaed0 error 6 in
  libwrap.so.0.7.6[7ff2a586e000+5000]

  sshd[1094]: segfault at 7ffcd3ff6f08 ip
  7f18d4f5dac7 sp 7ffcd3ff6ed0 error 6 in
  libc-2.31.so[7f18d4f2a000+14b000]

  sshd[1099]: segfault at 7ffe04ff4b78 ip
  7f204bb55ac7 sp 7ffe04ff4b40 error 6 in
  libc-2.31.so[7f204bb22000+14b000]

So it looks like it affects both debian10 and debian11.

And adding the IPv6 back into /etc/hosts.allow fixes it
in both.

It's possible that this bugreport should be for the
libwrap0 package. I'm not sure. Perhaps you'll be
able to determine that.

cheers,
raf

Bug#992315: ruby-kyotocabinet: Please package new version (1.34)

2021-08-16 Thread Boyuan Yang
Source: ruby-kyotocabinet
Version: 1.33-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-CC: bou...@debian.org shawnland...@gmail.com

Dear Debian ruby-kyotocabinet package maintainers,

I just took over maintenance of package kyotocabinet in Debian (
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/kyotocabinet , see also
https://bugs.debian.org/987174 ) and noticed that some packages related to
kyotocabinet also need to be updated.

According to https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/ruby-kyotocabinet , a new version
is now available. However:

* The upstream of kyotocabinet has already moved from
https://fallabs.com/kyotocabinet/rubypkg/ to
https://dbmx.net/kyotocabinet/rubypkg/ .

* The Debian package maintainer for kyotocabinet-related packages (Shawn
Landden, in cc list) was not active in the past 8 years.

As a result, I am wondering if anyone is interested in updating ruby-
kyotocabinet in near future. Since I am not in Ruby Extras Team, I may also
make a NMU first and submit merge requests to Salsa git packaging repo later.
Please let me know if you have any suggestion to the whole procedure.

Thanks,
Boyuan Yang

It sounds like this functionality is required for what we are trying to achieve.
I am not very familiar with the golang family and its surrounding infrastructure
regarding Debian. Perhaps I am not best-equipped to package the github-cli tool,
but I am always willing to learn.

It sounds like we should pause the github-cli technical packaging work until
dependent features and packages are added to the ecosystem. Would you agree with
that? I'm not seeing any BTS tags specific to RFPs (or bugs in general) for
marking it as "blocked", as we would say in the corporate world. Although I am
not sure that is even necessary.

Bug#992017: Updated patch and example script for building the package

2021-08-16 Thread David W. Kennedy

Hello,

Here is an updated patch and rationale for depencency versions with some
improvements.

I have tested building and running this in a Debian stable (bullseye)
chroot and a Debian unstable (sid) chroot. About 12 GiB of disk space is
needed for building, and an additional 20 GiB for an OS with necessary
packages for building 0ad. Building with an SSD and a quad core desktop
CPU requires about 30 minutes.

I have also provided a bash script that shows how to obtain the
necessary source code, apply the patch and build the Debian package of
0ad version 0.0.25. You should really start with building and installing
version 0.0.25 of 0ad-data, for which a patch and instructions are
available in bug #992314.

Notes about the process of building the Debian package for 0ad, version
0.0.25, follow.

If you are asked for a default mirror for pbuilder then the most common
response is:

https://deb.debian.org/debian

but a list of local mirrors is available here

https://www.debian.org/mirror/list

I recommend using a mirror that supports HTTPS encryption. You will need
to manually test which mirrors support HTTPS, for example with a web
browser.

Thanks

Bug#992314: New upstream release of 0ad-data - version 0.0.25

2021-08-16 Thread David W. Kennedy

Package: 0ad-data
Version: 0.0.24b-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Version 0.0.25 of 0ad-data was released.

I have attached a patch relative to version 0.0.24b-1. When combined
with the upstream source for 0ad-data 0.0.25, it allows one to build a
Debian package of 0ad-data version 0.0.25.

The attached script shows the commands and/or helps automate the process
of testing this patch.

Thanks.

Bug#992313: hexedit: please add non-superficial autopkgtest

2021-08-16 Thread Paul Wise
Source: hexedit
Severity: wishlist

Please add this autopkgtest that tests editing both non-empty and empty
files by passing keys via terminal escape sequences and bytes. You will
need to test-depend on colorized-logs for pipetty and ansi2txt. It
should be possible to add more scenarios by typing keys into hexdump
and converting those to the corresponding printf sequences.

   #!/bin/sh
   set -e
   rm -f nonempty empty result
   echo nonempty > nonempty
   touch empty
   echo result > result
for f in nonempty empty ; do
 echo "Editing $f in hexedit"
 printf "$f"'\n\tresult\x18y' |
 pipetty hexedit 2>&1 |
 ansi2txt |
 tr '\r' '\n'
   done
   head -vn-0 nonempty empty result
for f in nonempty empty ; do
 cmp "$f" result
   done

I have forwarded the patches to the Fedora bug tracker, hopefully that
will mean that the upstream maintainer will accept them now.

I had to fix a bug with the first patch causing a segfault.

I will include the patches in the next upload to Debian unstable.

Sorry, I meant #951374 at https://bugs.debian.org/951374
for the previously filed RFP. Please refer to #951374 from now on
especially there are recent activities about actually getting
github-cli packaged over at #951374.

Hi Brian,

First of all, thank you for volunteering to help with the packaging of
GitHub CLI.

Here is my understanding:

1. We may name the Debian source and binary package as "gh"
(same as how upstream names it in https://github.com/cli/cli/releases),
though the consensus here leans toward naming the package "github-cli".

2. Even though both "gitsome" and the new "github-cli" package contain
/usr/bin/gh, and since they both perform somewhat similar functions,
we can assume that an end user would only want to install one of them,
hence the suggestion that we set "Conflicts: gitsome" in debian/control
of "github-cli". (We _could_ go with the dpkg-divert(1) route, but I don't
think that is worth the effort unless there were demand, i.e. if someone
were to report a bug about it.)

3. > Do we follow a first-come first-serve binary name reservation
> strategy?
A: No, not necessary, especially seeing how gitsome development
seems to have stopped in May 2019 according to
https://github.com/donnemartin/gitsome , whereas GitHub CLI
is actively being developed, with the most recent commit being
merely 10 hours ago.

4. Paul Wise's suggestion of adding "Provides: gh" is a good idea
so that end users looking for github-cli can simply run
"apt install gh" and apt will install "github-cli" for them.
Furthermore, this should help the end users who have installed
upstream's "gh" deb package to seamlessly migrate to Debian's
official "github-cli" package. (probably needs "Replaces: gh" too)

So, in summary, it just means the following in debian/control:

Source: github-cli
...
XS-Go-Import-Path: github.com/github/cli
...
Package: github-cli
...
Conflicts: gitsome, gh
Provides: gh
Replaces: gh

(All ye experts here, please correct me if you spot any errors,
especially I am always confused about Conflicts, Provides, Replaces
and Breaks and may have gotten it wrong.)

Now, you might run into a problem when actually trying to name the
package "github-cli" (or even "gh") because dh-make-golang 0.4.0 does
not allow for overriding the package name. For example:

dh-make-golang -type p -pristine-tar github.com/cli/cli

would name the package "cli"... I am working on packaging the latest
dh-make-golang and will try to add a flag to allow overriding the
package name, to be uploaded as dh-make-golang 0.4.1 or 0.5.0.

Then there are the yet-to-be-packaged dependencies. Just so that you
know, the following packages that github-cli depends on have already
been packaged but currently sitting in the
https://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html NEW queue:

 * golang-github-yuin-goldmark-emoji 1.0.1-1
 * golang-github-muesli-reflow 0.3.0-1
 * golang-github-shurcool-graphql 0.0~git20200928.18c5c31-1
 * golang-github-shurcool-githubv4 0.0~git20210725.83ba7b4-1

I'll report back here if I were to package and upload more of these
dependencies so as to avoid duplication of work.

Cheers,

Anthony

Bug#992280: cdrom: Debian 11 installer fails to produce usable display

2021-08-16 Thread Mike Perrin

Cyril,

Out of curiosity I downloaded the 10.10.0 netinst.iso and tried it on my
system. It produced the same results as 11.0.0, the installation display
was shredded. I had installed 10.0 on that machine when it was released
with no problems but was using a Samsung 204T 1600x1200 monitor at the
time. It seems there is something wonky (or at least uncooperative)
about my NEC monitor.

Mike

-

Cyril,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I had read those pages and was using the firmware-11.0.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
and firmware-11.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso images. But I was unable to even
begin using the installer. Attached are photos of the DVD-1 boot screen
and resulting displays when choosing the graphic and text install
options. The results with the netinstall iso were identical.

I was able to install 11.0.0 using the debian-live-xfce+nonfree iso and
the installed system works just fine with my NEC monitor.

I tried using the i386-netinst.iso to load 11.0.0 on an ALIX 1C Geode
embedded board. My NEC monitor refused to display giving me a "VGA out
of range" message. When I tried an Acer AL1717 1280x1024 monitor the
netinstall came up perfectly.

2021-08-16 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: apt
Version: 2.2.3
Severity: normal

Hey.

I've seen the following already few times, but always used apt via aptitude,
so maybe the problem is actually within that.

What happens is the following:
- I upgrade/install/remove a number of packages.
- Amongt one/several of them there is an error during installation and one
  gets a line like:
  Errors were encountered while processing:
  packagename1
  packagename2
  ...
- At the point, /var/log/apt/term.log ends with the ususal:
  Log ended:

- However, aptitude seems to retry once...
Sometimes this means that all packages that haven't been installed/upgraded/
removed, get now done, that is: *before* the errorneous package from above
  gets tried again.
This means that all their log output is lost.
Sometimes the packages that failed previously actually run through fine the
  2nd time.
So again, that output would be lost.

Cheers,
Chris.

Bug#992308: freecad: addon manager locks up on "Install/update selected"

2021-08-16 Thread Alexis Lockwood
Package: freecad
Version: 0.19.1+dfsg1-2
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: alexislockw...@fastmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

When the "Install/update selected" button is pressed in the Addon Manager,
FreeCAD locks up for me. Specifically, I selected the Assembly4 workbench,
which was not previously installed.

If FreeCAD is launched from a terminal, an error message is visible there:

```
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/freecad/Mod/AddonManager/addonmanager_workers.py", line 769,
in run
repo = git.Repo.clone_from(self.repos[idx][1], clonedir)
AttributeError: module 'git' has no attribute 'Repo'
```

However, no message is displayed in the UI, it just becomes unresponsive.

This appears to have been reported upstream before on a different distribution
and they blamed the distro package:
https://tracker.freecadweb.org/view.php?id=4072

The official 0.19 AppImage download directly from FreeCAD does not exhibit this
issue.

There is probably a secondary bug here that could be reported upstream about
the UI locking up when this error occurs, but it was mentioned in the linked
report already.

I have an unprivileged container with openvpn under bullseye and my host
is also under bullseye with cgroup2 active and I am unable to reproduce.

Is your bug specific to privileged containers?

Bug#943457: libcharon-extra-plugins: Enable forecast plugin

2021-08-16 Thread Grumpy
It would be really great to have to forecast plugin included in
libcharon-extra-plugins :)

The forecast plugin allows, when specified/permitted by the traffic
selectors, to forward broadcast and multicast packets between clients
and subnets.

Multicast packets are widely used by "network discovery" protocols such
as Zeronconf/Bonjour and SSDP. The forecast plugin permits to replay
such packets in IPsec tunnels which allows services discovery (printers,
DLNA, ...) across clients/subnets.

Building the forecast plugin requires iptables development headers and
the --enable-forecast flag to the ./configure options.

Enabling the forecast plugin requires CAP_NET_RAW and the farp plugin
(which is already available in the libcharon-extra-plugins package).

The forecast plugin is described here:
https://wiki.strongswan.org/projects/strongswan/wiki/Forecast

Bug#992306: radicale: use "radicale" instead of "env" as syslog identifier

2021-08-16 Thread Kevin Locke
Package: radicale
Version: 3.0.6-3
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

When radicale is started by systemd, log messages have the syslog
identifier "env". For example:

Aug 16 03:17:02 servername env[10730]: [2021-08-16 03:17:02 +]
[10730/Thread-4] [WARNING] Client provided invalid sync token
'http://radicale.org/ns/sync/4d313dba5726344f8f8299259cfc1875': Malformed
token: 'http://radicale.org/ns/sync/4d313dba5726344f8f8299259cfc1875'

Which makes finding the source of the messages difficult. This can be
avoided by changing `ExecStart=/usr/bin/env python3 -m radicale` to
`ExecStart=/usr/bin/radicale` or by adding `SyslogIdentifier=radicale`
to the `[Service]` section of radicale.service.

Thanks for considering,
Kevin

Bug#992305: Only one nic works at a time when installing Debian 11 and Gui (gnome)

2021-08-16 Thread joebeasley3rd
Package:
Version: <11>

Fresh Gui install. Two nics on different networks. If I enable one with
network manager in gnome, it disables the other one. Re-enable the one
it disabled, and it disables the other one??
Turns out this was a graphical install that created file called
ens3.nmconnection in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections. I removed
this file and rebooted. Both nics can now be enabled at the same time.
A Text install creates a file called "Wired Connection 1" in the same
folder. Removed it to resolve.
Looks like these files get created if you install a graphical desktop
(gnome) during the install. Three different installs, same results.
I did a text install with no gui, then installed the gnome desktop
after reboot. No issues.

Note that this adoption would be done by

I've just deployed piuparts 1.1.4 on piuparts.d.o, which updates the
(old)*stable and testing aliases for the bullseye release. This should make the
stable2* and testing2sid environments DTRT.

I've also deployed a followup change to make sure the test environments for
bullseye-pu, bullseye-security and bullseye2next, used by SRMs, are being
created and handled.

(currently deployed branch:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/piuparts/-/tree/tmp-1.1.4, until Andreas pushes
his actual 1.1.4 branch on which I'll rebase the pejacevic changes).

I'll leave this bug open until we've confirmed that all results are as expected
(which should show up in the next piuparts-report run).

Thanks for your work on bullseye!

Bug#992299: bullseye-pu: package txt2man/1.7.1-1+deb11u1

2021-08-16 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: bullseye
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

Dear team,

[ Reason ]
This is a regression. The upstream released the 1.7.1 version and a day after,
he made a commit to fix the issue[1]. This pu is fully based in the last
upstream commit. The previous version 1.7.0 worked fine in Sid and was
replaced by 1.7.1.

[1]
https://github.com/mvertes/txt2man/commit/be89fb412fd443813db6b4d2fcd4223546138757

txt2man is used to create manpages from an ASCII text following some format
rules. To generate a literal block, each line must be preceded by a TAB. In
1.7.1 version, the literal block is being generated as a normal paragraph.
Consequently, the original format is arbitrary changed by txt2man.

This upload is related to bug #992283 and I discovered this issue today.

[ Impact ]
If not approved, the user will not be able to create a manpage with literal
blocks, useful to display source codes, tables, etc.

[ Tests ]
New CI tests were introduced in the package sent to Sid to verify and avoid
future regressions.

[ Risks ]
This is a trivial fix, no risks.

[ Checklist ]
[x] *all* changes are documented in the d/changelog
[x] I reviewed all changes and I approve them
[x] attach debdiff against the package in (old)stable
[x] the issue is verified as fixed in unstable

[ Changes ]
A patch (quilt) was created to modify two lines in the final executable. This
executable (txt2man) is a shell script.

[ Other info ]
None.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Eriberto

Can you elaborate what the issues are you experience with LXC?

Bug#992296: texlive-latex-recommended: index package warns that \markboth and \markright have changed

2021-08-16 Thread Norman Ramsey
Package: texlive-latex-recommended
Version: 2020.20210202-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm working on a large document (1400 pages) and trying to keep it
clean of warnings. It was clean under buster (oldstable).
But under bullseye (stable) `xelatex` is issuing warnings.

The warnings come from the `index.sty` package.

I've attached a minimal example that triggers the warning using just a
standard `\documentclass` and `\usepackage`. I expect to be able to
run this example without any warnings.

It's not clear to me whether this is a packaging issue (new
`index.sty` already exists upstream and just needs to be packaged) or
an upstream issue (most recent `index.sty` is at fault).

Bug#992295: Add an option to test all the speakers on the system

2021-08-16 Thread 積丹尼 Dan Jacobson
Package: alsa-utils
Version: 1.2.4-1
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/speaker-test

Add an option or mention how to test all the speakers on the system.

Currently, working back from what the man page says, one needs

for i in $(aplay -L|perl -nwle '/(.*):CARD=([^,]+)/ && print "$1:$2";'|sort -u)
do speaker-test --device $i --nloops 1; done

And that creates a lot of errors, as not all the aplay -L devices can be
used.

Anyway, the idea is: try making a noise that can be heard somewhere.
E.g., it is night time.
My house has 25 windows.
I will make a noise inside it,
and stand outside, wondering what window the noise came out of...

So running the above command, when the user finally hears a noise,
he can look quickly at the screen to see which --device made it.

Would be nice if you could drop them completely from this meta package.
I do not consider this one a blocker for myself due to the fact that you
already list exfatprogs as the first choice.

Hi,
with the release of bullseye we've the in kernel exFAT driver available.
If possible please remove the dependency on exfat-fuse and change from
exfat-utils to exfatprogs for the filesystem utilities. That would enable
us to drop the fuse driver soon.

If you make extensive use of special parameters of the filesystem utilities
there might be changes required. exfatprogs is a codebase created by Samsung
while
exfat-utils was a completely independend implementation by another developer.

Bug#992285: bfh-desktop: Please remove dependency alternative exfat-fuse and exfat-utils

Package: bfh-desktop

Hi Daniel,
I would like to drop exfat-fuse and exfat-utils within the next release cycle.
Would be nice if you could drop them completely from this meta package.
I do not consider this one a blocker for myself due to the fact that you
already list exfatprogs as the first choice.

Cheers,
Sven

Ah, that works indeed. And then the gnome one does get true.

I'll update finish-install then.

Bug#992284: r8168-dkms: rtl8111 NIC on Asus PN51 not working with r8168 nor r8169

2021-08-16 Thread Morten Neergaard
Package: r8168-dkms
Version: 8.048.03-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I've recently gotten an Asus PN51 computer with what I believe to be a
RTL8111 NIC. With the r8169 driver, I can't connect to my network at all
(link detected, no DHCP) and with the r8168 driver the download
performance is abysmal (~50k/s downloading from another computer on the
same network)

After downloading 8.049.02-0 from upstream and building (used apt-get
source, updated contents from upstream, made a package using debuild -uc
-us) the card works as expected, and I get download approaching gigabit
speeds on LAN.

will be closed immediately.

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report.

Please run your example with
(pdf)latex -recorder ...
(or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated
file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during
the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in
your home directory.

Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are
needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of

false

Is there perhaps something in cinnamon that would somehow override that

can be tried to add also (inside
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/15_speakup.gschema.override):

[org.cinnamon.desktop.a11y.applications]

To reproduce, simply choose "Install with speech synthesis" at the boot

a textual interface and speech synthesis), choosing the cinnamon desktop
in the tasksel menu.

In 1.7.1-1, literal blocks are being treated as paragraphs. Thus, is not
possible put a source code or a literal text in a manpage. However, this
feature works fine in previous version/revision (1.7.0-2).

There is a commit (be89fb4) to solve this issue in upstream[1].

Bugs with this compiler error are caused by a header behaviour change
in GLib 2.68.

In older versions, the GLib headers contained only C code, even when
compiled with a C++ compiler. In GLib 2.68+, if C++ compilation is
detected, the headers make use of C++ features to make macros like
g_object_ref() more type-safe.

There are two ways to resolve the build failure:

1. Move inclusions of system headers outside extern "C" blocks, at least
for well-behaved libraries like GLib and GTK that already include their
own extern "C" guard, either directly or via macros like GLib's own
   G_BEGIN_DECLS/G_END_DECLS.

   Attached patch Don-t-wrap-C-header-inclusions-in-extern-C.patch
   implements this.

2. Target a specific GLib version older than 2.68 by defining the macros
   GLIB_VERSION_MIN_REQUIRED and GLIB_VERSION_MAX_ALLOWED (see GLib's
documentation for details). This asks GLib to disable behaviour changes
and deprecation warnings that happened since the target version.

https://github.com/brummer10/gxtuner/pull/21 is an example of this
in a different project, but I don't know how to specify CPPFLAGS
in a qmake project, so I haven't attached a patch implementing this.

Maintainers can choose either or both of those methods. I would personally
recommend doing both.

Thanks,
smcv

Subject: Don't wrap C header inclusions in extern "C"

The GLib, Gdk-Pixbuf, Wnck and XCB headers all use extern "C"
internally, so it is unnecessary to wrap their inclusion in an
extern "C" block.

A redundant extern "C" block can be harmful, for example if these headers
test for defined(__cplusplus) and, if defined, use C++ features in their
macros. GLib 2.68 started to do this, to make macros like g_object_ref()
type-safe, resulting in compilation failure for C++ projects that
assumed GLib headers would always be pure C.

Now with patches actually attached.

Subject: [PATCH] build: Target a specific GLib API version

Setting GLIB_VERSION_MIN_REQUIRED selects the minimum required version
of GLib for this project. Code that was deprecated after that version
will not cause deprecation warnings, and where header files have changed
their compile-time behaviour over time, the behaviour that was seen in
the selected version will be used where possible.

Setting GLIB_VERSION_MAX_ALLOWED causes GLib to emit warnings if a
function introduced after the selected version is used.

In particular, this disables new C++ behaviour introduced in GLib 2.68,
which caused this project to fail to build.

GLib 2.54 is an arbitrary choice: it happens to be the version that was
the current stable release when gxtuner 3.0.0 was released. It could
be reduced if gxtuner needs to compile on older distributions, or
increased if a newer dependency is acceptable.

Subject: [PATCH] Move system header inclusions outside extern "C"

GLib and GTK both include extern "C" guards in their header files, so it
is unnecessary to wrap them in an extern "C" block.

A redundant extern "C" block can be harmful, because header files might
test #ifdef __cplusplus and include C++ syntax if it is defined, even in
an otherwise C header. In particular, GLib has done this since version
2.68, in order to make macros like g_object_ref() type-safe when called
from C++ code. the result was that this project failed to compile.

Bugs with this compiler error are caused by a header behaviour change
in GLib 2.68.

In older versions, the GLib headers contained only C code, even when
compiled with a C++ compiler. In GLib 2.68+, if C++ compilation is
detected, the headers make use of C++ features to make macros like
g_object_ref() more type-safe.

   Attached patch 0001-Move-system-header-inclusions-outside-extern-C.patch
implements this. I've proposed it upstream.

2. Target a specific GLib version by defining the macros
   GLIB_VERSION_MIN_REQUIRED and GLIB_VERSION_MAX_ALLOWED (see GLib's
documentation for details). This asks GLib to disable behaviour changes
and deprecation warnings that happened since the target version.

   Attached patch 0001-build-Target-a-specific-GLib-API-version.patch
implements this. I've proposed it upstream. The choice of GLib 2.54
is completely arbitrary (it's the version that was current at the time
gxtuner was most recently released) so an upstream or downstream
maintainer could probably make a better choice.

Maintainers can choose either or both of those methods. I would personally
recommend doing both.

I've successfully compiled gxtuner against GLib 2.68.3 with each of those
patches, individually. I have not otherwise tested the resulting executables.

Thanks,
smcv

Dear Maintainer,

Attempted to install Debian 11.0.0 on AMD Ryzen 3 2200G ASRock A320M-HDV
motherboard with VGA connected NEC EA231WU 1920x1200 monitor. Both the
netinstall and DVD-1 images booted but each produced a shredded raster
display for both the graphic and text install options.

Bug#992279: debian-live (XFCE) does not recognize PS2 mouse

2021-08-16 Thread Mike Perrin
Package: debian-live
Severity: normal
Tags: a11y
X-Debbugs-Cc: mper...@icehouse.net

Dear Maintainer,

Attempted to install Debian 11.0.0 from XFCE live DVD on AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
ASRock A320M-HDV mainboard. Live system booted but PS2 mouse was not
recognized. PS2 keyboard was OK. Connecting the PS2 keyboard and mouse
through a PS2 to USB adapter solved the problem. Afterwards, the PS2
mouse port was usable on the installed system.

I had previously installed protontricks as a normal user, using pipx, following
the instructions at https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks and used it
successfully. I uninstalled it, using pipx, prior to installing the Debian
package.

Bug#950324: question

> Would it be an option to compress the kernel with a stronger compression
> algorithm, like xz?

Debian has to pick the kernel compression type that works best for
the majority of users, bearing in mind that some machine types are
particularly sensitive to how much memory is required to decompress.
If you want to change it I think you'll need to build your own
kernels.

When it comes to the initramfs however, you can choose compression:

# echo "COMPRESS=xz" > /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/compress
# update-initramfs -u

I disagree with this assessment.

I think it rather says "things have changed since you last looked at
this package, there might be more things that are relevant for you now".

Configuring libdebuginfod-common

While debugging programs (with GDB, for example) or using debuginfo-consumer
applications, it is possible to connect to
Debian's debuginfod server and download the necessary debug information for the
program you are debugging on-the-fly,
without the need to configure the debian-debug apt repository nor installing
any dbgsym packages. This service is
maintained by Debian, and the only information you will have to send to it is
the Build-ID hash of the
program(s)/library(ies) being debugged.

Connect to Debian's debuginfod server to download debug symbols? [yes/no] no

Yes ‒ they don't get removed after I *explicitly say no*.
BTW: didn't get prompted on install, but I have my priority set to high,
so meh.

dpkg -L libdebuginfod-common reveals:
/usr/share/libdebuginfod-common/debuginfod.csh
/usr/share/libdebuginfod-common/debuginfod.sh

Bug#992267: www.debian.org: missing css's and images on some pages

2021-08-16 Thread Wenbin Lv
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

The following two pages on the website look scrambled:

https://www.debian.org/releases/testing/amd64/release-notes/404.en.html
(The 404 page of the top directory looks fine.)

https://www.debian.org/devel/website/stats/zh-cn.en.html

A quick look into the browser's debug console reveals that three files
are missing from these pages: debian.css, debian-en.css,
openlogo-50.png. The path to debian.css, for example, should be
/debian.css, while the incorrect path referenced are
/releases/debian.css and /english/debian.css, respectively.

Thanks,
Wenbin Lv

As the freeze is over, time for an review:

- You updated S-V from 4.1.3 to 4.5.1. Did you follow
  https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.html?
Asking, because I see changes in policy that would make some change(s) needed
  in your package...

- There are undocumented changes (== not mentioned in d/changelog):
  - d/copyright

- upstream seems to provide a signature for the tarball at
https://craigbarnes.gitlab.io/dte/releases.html. Please add support for
signature checking in d/watch.

(Please update the package and then remove the moreinfo tag, to indicate that
it's ready for another review)

I put the cartridge in UEFI mode. AIUI, it starts using U-Boot, then
chainloads UEFI.

Thanks, I've opened new bugs for cairocffi and pyglet under the
https://udd.debian.org/cgi-bin/bts-usertags.cgi?user=pkg-gnome-maintainers%40lists.alioth.debian.org=split-gdk-pixbuf
usertag.

pinta is already RC-buggy (it was kicked out of testing 2070 days ago)
and it's using ${shlibs:Depends}, etc., so it should "naturally" pick up
the libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 dependency if an upload fixes its bug.
