Bug#1016914: fpc-source-3.2.0: fpc is not shipped with the units of the vcl-compat package

2022-08-09 Thread Paul Gevers

Hi Jan,

Thanks for reporting.

On 09-08-2022 18:26, Jan Baumgarten wrote:

a user of Zeos (zeoslib.sourceforge.io) mentioned that our software fails to
build because the unit System.NetEncoding is not available.
There seems to be no package file that contains these units even though the
source file is installed in /usr/share/fpcsrc/3.2.0/packages/vcl-
compat/src/system.netencoding.pp.

Yes, I can see that in e.g.
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=fpc=amd64=3.2.2%2Bdfsg-11=1653593343=0
(under the dh_missing section).

The fpc project itself ship these unit with their installer. Also the unit gets
built using fpclazup. I suggest to somehow include the vcl-compat packagt that
contains the System.NetEncoding unit.

Is there an existing package that makes sense to contain these units?

Bug#1016934: src:python-xarray: fails to migrate to testing for too long: autopkgtest regression

Dear maintainer(s),

The Release Team considers packages that are out-of-sync between testing
and unstable for more than 60 days as having a Release Critical bug in
testing [1]. Your package src:python-xarray has been trying to migrate
for 61 days [2]. Hence, I am filing this bug. It's blocked by an
autopkgtest regression which I reported earlier in bug #1013939.

If a package is out of sync between unstable and testing for a longer
period, this usually means that bugs in the package in testing cannot be
fixed via unstable. Additionally, blocked packages can have impact on
other packages, which makes preparing for the release more difficult.
Finally, it often exposes issues with the package and/or
its (reverse-)dependencies. We expect maintainers to fix issues that
hamper the migration of their package in a timely manner.

This bug will trigger auto-removal when appropriate. As with all new
bugs, there will be at least 30 days before the package is auto-removed.

I have immediately closed this bug with the version in unstable, so if
that version or a later version migrates, this bug will no longer affect
testing. I have also tagged this bug to only affect sid and bookworm, so
it doesn't affect (old-)stable.

If you believe your package is unable to migrate to testing due to
issues beyond your control, don't hesitate to contact the Release Team.

Yes, it's the difficulty of making good UI. In the past we reported the
last overall result, but for testing that includes all tests with
${random} package from unstable so that could be changing all the time,
so we changed that to only report "pure" runs. It's on our wishlist to
change it again and report both flavors on the same page, but we need a
reasonable design to do that without causing too much confusion.

Hi Ondřej,

I have an upload prepared to address this bug and also to update to
upstream 4.36. However, I notice that you prepared the 4.34 for the

Would you like to push your branches, or shall I `gbp import-dsc` the

According to the devs it appears to be a X11 specific gtk bug.

Apparently it should be reproducible with
`$ GDK_BACKEND=x11 kgx`
which wasn't the case for me.

Done these, though I'm not so sure about the oldlibs for the
transitional packages if you're planning to remove them the very next

We currently use the release tarballs from URIs matching:

a couple of which are backported from git.

(If I continue to be the only person working on sbcl packaging in
Debian, I'll probably switch to packaging git revisions not tarballs,

I'm not able to reproduce that bug either with Ubuntu 22.10 which is
running a similar version of gnome-console.

The new gnome-console has switched to gtk4 and there are some bugs.
Perhaps try closing the app and reopening it?

Bug#1016927: gnome-console: Shortcuts being executed without shift being hold

2022-08-09 Thread Thiago Bellini Ribeiro
Package: gnome-console
Version: 43~beta-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: hackedbell...@gmail.com

After upgrading to the current gnome-console version in Debian Sid (43~beta-1),
all shortcuts are being executed even without pressing shift.

For example, ctrl+c is executing a copy (together with a SIGINT) just as if I
pressed ctrl+shift+c
ctrl+v is pasting without requiring shift being hold
ctrl+w is closing the current tab
etc

I reported this upstream (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/console/-/issues/176)
but the maintainers there said that could not reproduce this and thus it should
probably be an issue in Debian itself.

Bug#919697: arcanist: file conflict with arc

Could you please rename the archanist /usr/bin/arc into
/usr/bin/arcanist? Or if that's not feasible, then stop installing the
symlink in PATH, and document that users might want to add the /usr/share
/arcanist/bin/ into their own PATH? Or do both?

Renaming the binary from the arc package, which matches the package
name itself, seems unfair, as it has existed upstream and has been in
the Debian archive for way way longer, and in addition the idea of
potentially having a binary package arc with a non-arc program, and
arcanist providing an arc program seems rather confusing and just
wrong. :)

Otherwise, all these package will get removed in the coming days. So I'd
also appreciate if you could reassign these bugs to arcanist.

Thanks,
Guillem

Hi,

I would like to upload src:mathcomp-finmap 1.5.2-1 to unstable ; that
means a few other packages will need a recompilation or they'll be
uninstallable -- I checked just recompiling in the right order is
enough.

My experimental wanna-build script for such cases expresses it as:

finmap 1.5.2-1'
 dw mathcomp-analysis_0.5.2-2 . ANY . -m 'mathcomp-finmap => 1.5.2-1'

 dw coqeal_1.1.1-1 . ANY . -m 'mathcomp-multinomials => 1.5.5-8+b1'

There's also: https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/coq.html

The src:package is signed and ready for dput, just waiting for your

Bug#1016921: krita: Way to many .desktop files all with same app name

2022-08-09 Thread Eyal Rozenberg
Package: krita
Version: 1:5.0.8+dfsg-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: eyalr...@gmx.com

Dear Maintainer,

When a user of a Gtk-based DE, such as Cinnamon, opens the "Open With..."
dialog for a format which can be opened with krita, and with the krita package
installed, that user gets 23 (!) instances of "Krita" suggested to them as one
of the other applications. This is not useful, and actually kind of a bad idea.

The cause is 23 different .desktop files bundled with krita!

At the very least, these .desktop files should have distinguished names in the
GUI, otherwise nobody is ever going to use the right one and it's useless to
even have them.

But beyond this, I doubt that it's a good idea to have these 23 desktop files
to begin with. It would probably make sense to have a single .desktop file with
multiple mime types in it (I'm pretty sure that's supported).

Bug#1016919: lintian: bash-term-in-posix-shell false positive for `. "$(dirname "$0")/functions.sh"`

2022-08-09 Thread Gioele Barabucci

Package: lintian
Version: 2.115.2

The following script (approved by `shellcheck -s sh`) causes a false
positive warning `bash-term-in-posix-shell`:

#!/bin/sh
. "$(dirname "$0")/functions.sh"
do_something

I: my-test: bash-term-in-posix-shell '. "$(dirname "$0")/functions.sh"'
[usr/bin/my-test:2]

Probably the lintian check is misparsing the quotes and the space
between `dirname` and `"$0"`, leading it to believe that an argument is
being passed to the sourced script (that would be, in fact, a bashism).

Hello Louis-Philippe,
I found this an interesting topic and as far as I see lintian is
triggered by a read function call in signalhandler.cpp
in SignalHandler::on_socketNotifier_activated.

This line raises currently already a warning "ignoring return value of",
which seems was tried to get silenced by a Q_UNUSED.

For a short test, lintian does not report this tag if the line
containing the read is just commented out.

I am not sure, but isn't the usage of "-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2"
expected to get g++ replace the call to "read" by the
buffer length checking "__read_chk"?

Kind regards,
Bernhard

Thanks for looking into this. I sadly have very little C/C++ knowledge.

I can indeed see from the command you pasted that the qpdfview binary
ends up with "read" instead of "__read_chk" and if you say
"-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2" should be fixing that, well it seems something
isn't working properly, as we're compiling with that flag :(

If you have ideas or things you want me to try, I'll be more than happy
to experiment.

Bug#1016917: dvdbackup: has really clunky way of dealing with i/o errors

2022-08-09 Thread Alan W. Irwin
Package: dvdbackup
Version: 0.4.2-4+b1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

vlc plays my old scratched dvd's without ANY viewing issues while dvdbackup
creates a disk image with lots of remarks in the log about i/o errors, e.g.,

Error reading VTS_06_1.VOB at block 34304, read error returned
padding 512 blocks

and when I attempt to view that disk image with vlc, there are lots of
viewing artifacts.

So it is pretty clear that vlc deals with i/o issues *on the fly
(which is the more difficult problem) in a much better manner than
dvdbackup does with all the time in the world to do the right thing.

So my wishlist bug report for dvdbackup is it adopts the same
excellent workarounds for i/o issues that vlc uses so that the visual
results of running vlc on a disk image created by dvdbackup are the
same as running vlc on the original (scratched) DVD.

I don't think we normally bother changing the overrides for transitional
packages since they are eligible for removal the very next release
cycle. Is there something different for this case?

Thanks.

I thought we systematically altered everything extra->optional in dak.

Anyway, have run 'dak override' for this now.

I would create a branch debian/bullseye-backports for that.

Bug#1016914: fpc-source-3.2.0: fpc is not shipped with the units of the vcl-compat package

2022-08-09 Thread Jan Baumgarten
Package: fpc-source-3.2.0
Version: 3.2.0+dfsg-12
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

a user of Zeos (zeoslib.sourceforge.io) mentioned that our software fails to
build because the unit System.NetEncoding is not available.
There seems to be no package file that contains these units even though the
source file is installed in /usr/share/fpcsrc/3.2.0/packages/vcl-
compat/src/system.netencoding.pp.
The fpc project itself ship these unit with their installer. Also the unit gets
built using fpclazup. I suggest to somehow include the vcl-compat packagt that
contains the System.NetEncoding unit.

Best regards,

Jan Baumgarten

Bug#1016750: Heap exhaustion problem with SBCL 2.2.6 on armel, armhf

2022-08-09 Thread Sean Whitton
Hello,

When I updated SBCL in Debian from 2.2.3 to 2.2.6, our ci infrastructure
detected that the test suite for the cl-ironclad package consistently
runs out of memory on armhf and armel. This didn't happen before.

https://ci.debian.net/packages/c/cl-ironclad/testing/armhf/
https://ci.debian.net/packages/c/cl-ironclad/testing/armel/

Based on your understanding of the changes between SBCL 2.2.3 and 2.2.6,
does it seem likely that this is an SBCL bug, or rather that changes in
SBCL have uncovered a bug or limitation in the ironclad test suite,
e.g. that it tries to use more memory than a 32-bit address space can
accommodate?

Also asked about here: .

Would be grateful for any input. Thanks.

Bug#1016536: kexec-tools: broken on systemd without EFI

Thanks for the bug report. systemd supplies its own kexec service files

The init.d scripts are currently skipped on hosts running systemd.
This is a bad idea:

$ sudo systemctl kexec
No kexec kernel loaded and autodetection failed.
Automatic loading works only on systems booted with EFI.

Therefore init.d scripts should only be skipped if we run systemd AND
on an EFI-enabled host.

Bug#1016912: autopkgtest: d/tests/lxd should not use EOL distro (Ubuntu xenial)

2022-08-09 Thread Simon McVittie
Source: autopkgtest
Version: 5.22
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: Paride Legovini , Iain Lane
, Mathias Gibbens

autopkgtest's test suite currently tries to test lxd by downloading and
running an Ubuntu 16.04 'xenial' image, but this is currently Ubuntu
oldoldoldLTS and is more than 6 years old.

I don't use lxd myself, and it isn't currently available in Debian, only
on Ubuntu (or as a Snap app, but Snap apps seem like they ought to be
out-of-scope for autopkgtest), so I don't routinely test with lxd and it
isn't tested on Gitlab-CI. If/when lxd gets through the NEW queue into
Debian, it might be possible to enable it on Gitlab-CI.

Please could someone with a working lxd installation update this test
to the current state of the world, verify that it still passes, and send
a merge request?

I would prefer it to be using either Debian testing, the latest Debian
stable at the time of preparing the MR (currently bullseye), or the latest
Ubuntu LTS at the time of preparing the MR (currently jammy) as its target
distro. My personal preference would be testing > bullseye > jammy, but I'm
willing to be persuaded otherwise.

We have planned to remove the invalidate_nscd function. There was

This is not a recommendation for any of these projects/setups:

The important part is that I doubt all these have broken CI lying around,

So first come up with a reliable way to reproduce your problem by

  Description : Sequence Logo Generator

WebLogo is a web based application designed to make the generation of
sequence logos as easy and painless as possible.

WebLogo can create output in several common graphics' formats, including
the bitmap formats GIF and PNG, suitable for on-screen display, and the
vector formats EPS and PDF, more suitable for printing, publication, and
further editing. Additional graphics options include bitmap resolution,
titles, optional axis, and axis labels, antialiasing, error bars, and
alternative symbol formats.

A sequence logo is a graphical representation of an amino acid or
nucleic acid multiple sequence alignment. Each logo consists of stacks
of symbols, one stack for each position in the sequence. The overall
height of the stack indicates the sequence conservation at that
position, while the height of symbols within the stack indicates the
relative frequency of each amino or nucleic acid at that position. The
width of the stack is proportional to the fraction of valid symbols in
that position.

Could you backport the patch to boost1.74 so that the builds get fixed on
m68k and sh4?

Please see the attached patch.

Thanks,

It appears that these two symbols have been renamed in glibc 2.34 when
moved from libresolv to libc. Quoting the glibc NEWS file:

| * Various symbols previously defined in libresolv have been moved to libc
| in order to prepare for libresolv moving entirely into libc (see earlier
| entry for merging libraries into libc). The symbols __dn_comp,
| __dn_expand, __dn_skipname, __res_dnok, __res_hnok, __res_mailok,
| __res_mkquery, __res_nmkquery, __res_nquery, __res_nquerydomain,
| __res_nsearch, __res_nsend, __res_ownok, __res_query, __res_querydomain,
| __res_search, __res_send formerly in libresolv have been renamed and no
| longer have a __ prefix. They are now available in libc.

libspf2 is using libreplace internally to provide "replacements in case
the OS does not have native libraries that contain (working) copies.".
In that case it takes care to rename dn_expand into __dn_expand and
dn_skipname into __dn_skipname. It appears that with the changes done in
glibc 2.34, libspf2 does not need to use libreplace anymore. Therefore
the following patch from Ubuntu fixes the issue:

https://patches.ubuntu.com/libs/libspf2/libspf2_1.2.10-7.1ubuntu1.patch

Bug#1011165: org.h2.jdbc.JdbcSQLSyntaxErrorException: schema "MEDIATHEKVIEW" not found

2022-08-09 Thread Markus Koschany
Hello,

I have pushed a new branch which includes version 13.9.1.

https://salsa.debian.org/debian/mediathekview/-/tree/experimental

As you can see I have started from scratch because this is basically a new
package now. In order to complete this upgrade we need at least

an upgrade of okhttp to version 4.x

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/libokhttp-java

an upgrade of okio to 3.x

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/okio

tilesfx

a new package eu.hansolo tilesfx

https://github.com/HanSolo/tilesfx

a new package glazedlists

https://github.com/glazedlists/glazedlists

We could omit flatlaf because that seems to be only relevant for Windows

Those are the major issues we have to fix in order to package a new upstream
release of mediathekview. And we also need to fix kotlin in unstable. If
someone wants to help, that's our todo list.

Regards,

Markus

Well, on the list, they don't. Polite questions go unanswered, albeit
the wiki page suggests asking there. Given that piuparts errors are
directly filed as RC bug for packages, contact to piuparts people should
be easier.

For my part, I'm going to give up trying to talk to piuparts unless
absolutely necessary in the future.

Bug#1016899: RM: xprobe -- ROM; abandoned upstream, does not work against default installs

2022-08-09 Thread Neil Williams
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: codeh...@debian.org

xprobe is an old package with no upstream development - the old SF page
links to a Wiki, other links in d.copyright go to 404.

The current RC bug can be fixed but the package no longer works in a
useful manner. xprobe is unable to probe a standard Debian install but
it goes on to print a useless report containing mangled UTF-8 codes.

The most likely alternative package is nmap. There is no need for xprobe
in Debian any longer.

Bug#1016898: dolfin needs a rebuild against glibc 2.34

2022-08-09 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Source: dolfin
Version: 2019.2.0~git20220407.d29e24d-5
Severity: serious

Dear maintainer,

glibc 2.34 has merged a few libraries (libpthread, libdl, libutil,
libanl) into libc. While this is handled transparently at runtime, there
are a few corner cases at build time. In the case of dolfin, the file
usr/share/dolfin/cmake/DOLFINTargets.cmake files embed the path to
libdl.so which doesn't exist anymore.

dolfin has been binNMUed as part of the transition [1], however we later
realised that the above file is actually in the libdolfin-dev-common
package which is binary all. Therefore a source upload is necessary.

Could you please schedule one? There should be no change needed besides
adding a build-depends on libc-dev (>= 2.34) to ensure it is built
against glibc 2.34 (not all chroots have been upgraded yet).

Thanks,
Aurelien

That'd work for me, thanks! Some ideas to cover other use-cases if
desired:

 - Always strip ‘+ds(\.\d*)?’ and ‘+dfsg(\.\d*)?’ repack suffixes
*after* version mangling. After all, if upstream uses such suffixes
in its tags or version number, then the revision has to be mangled so
it doesn't collide with a repack suffix no?
 - New option --upstream-vcs-tag-strip='\+ds(\.\d*)?$'
 - AFAIK substitution in tag formats currently support a single
character; it could be changed so the remaining of the middle portion
is stripped, so ‘%(version%.+ds%_)’ rewrites ‘1.2.3+ds’ to ‘1_2_3’
and ‘%(version%.+ds%.)’ rewrite it to ‘1.2.3’. Odd semantics though
   and not trivial to document…

cheers

Sledge, even

anyway, for completeness, here's an openQA test running, showing that it
can get to the logged-in shell prompt on the installed system:

  https://openqa.debian.net/tests/68307#step/_console_wait_login/6

so I'm afraid I'm not reproducing your problem.

BTW That is a UEFI (although not secure-boot) boot.

Cheers, Phil.

Bug#1016893: python3-ldap crashing and causing issues

2022-08-09 Thread Shaheena Kazi
Package: python3-ldap

I am using Debian 11.
Openldap : 2.4.57+dfsg-3+deb11u1
python3-ldap : 3.2.0-4+b3
python3-ldap3: 2.8.1-1
TLS - 1.3
Openssl - 1.1.1n-0+deb11u3

I am try to set a new connect and then import files using below commands:

ldapcon = ldap.initialize('ldap://localhost')
ldapcon.set_option(ldap.OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION, ldap.VERSION3)
ldapcon.set_option(ldap.OPT_X_TLS_REQUIRE_CERT, ldap.OPT_X_TLS_NEVER)
ldapcon.set_option(ldap.OPT_X_TLS_NEWCTX, 0)

dn_to_add = 'cn=test.user,ou=people,dc=framework,dc=protegrity,dc=com'

modlist_to_add = [('uid', [b'test.user']), ('objectclass',
[b'inetOrgPerson', b'posixAccount', b'top']), ('uidnumber', [b'1003']),
('gidnumber', [b'100']), ('homedirectory', [b'/home/test.user']),
('userpassword', [b'qwer1234']), ('givenname', [b'test']), ('sn',
[b'user']), ('displayname', [b'test user']), ('loginshell',
[b'/usr/local/sbin/manager']), ('cn', [b'test.user']), ('description',
[b'testing']), ('pwdreset', [b'TRUE'])]

*
But when I run this - ldapcon.add_s(dn_to_add, modlist_to_add)
The slapd service crashes and I get below error

 LDAP Failure: {'desc': "Can't contact LDAP server}
ldap.CONFIDENTIALITY_REQUIRED: {'desc': 'Confidentiality required', 'info':
'TLS confidentiality required'}

Can u guys help me here as in what am I missing on and why the ldap is
crashing... it seems to be an issue with python3-ldap as I am able to run
the below commands without any issues:

 /usr/bin/ldapsearch -x -s base -ZZ -H `conf-get-value -k LDAP_URI` -D
`conf-get-value -k LDAP_BINDDN` -w `conf-get-value -k LDAP_BINDPW` -b
`conf-get-value -k LDAP_BASEDN`

Also, When I was using buster and the relavant packages to to buster and
python3.7 the same code worked absolutely fine.

Can you guys check and help me here ?

Shaheena K

Hello,

Debian has version 5.0.3-2 but latest upstream version is 5.7.1.
The package is used by packages in Kali Linux. One of them now requires
python3-socketio >= 5.5.1

Can you update the package?

Thank you very much

We could fix the replacement to be empty:

  https://github.com/agx/git-buildpackage/compare/master...ds

This causes trouble for people though that need this *and* to mangle the
version by other means.

Reminder that this request for a priority reduction is still outstanding.

gcc 9 has not been the default gcc since 2020, and Debian 11 was released
with gcc 10 as default; but as of mid 2022, a minimal debootstrap of
unstable still contains gcc-9-base as a result of its inflated Priority,
even though nothing in the minimal set depends on it any more.

Thank you very much. There is the possibility that libc6 2.34 just hides
the problem. Adam Jackson wrote:

I have a suggested fix for libX11 here, which adds -pthread to the
compilation and linking commands:

It seems harmless, but I've tested it very little.

The discussion is complicated a bit by the fact that there are clients
with genuine bugs (calls to libX11 during event processing), and other
clients that break just because they themselves don't build with
-pthread.

Either way, notion (and glxgears, etc) stopped working because Debian sid
for a short while had glibc 2.33 and a libx11 that called XInitThreads()
without using -pthread, resulting in pthread mutexes being used when
uninitialized.
