Pidgin sipe stopped working for all people that did upgrade in my
company. Reverting to 3.12.11-3 also fixe the pidgin-sipe issues.

I managed to login once I figured out the keybord was back in querty
mode. Then simulating a normal boot (mount /proc /sys, restart udev,
clear mtab, mount -a, then networking. SO you do not absolutely need a

I suspect the status is worse for me : the kernel detects the disks
but do not populate udev nor even mount it. I use my own kernel
tailored for my machine, not initrd. udev 204 breaks the boot by not
adding sdb* diks entries.
