Bug#290849: dillo bugs? (fwd)

2005-12-01 Thread Gürkan Sengün

-- Forwarded message --
Date: 2005-11-28 16:52:08 +0100
From: Kiyo [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: dillo bugs?

Hi,

I have some questions with user bugreports, maybe you can help fix
some?

Bug detail:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=290849
Bug reproduce:
http://www.linuks.mine.nu/test.html

more bugs:
http://bugs.debian.org/dillo
It seems that it is already supported. But, a part of texts depends on
gtk1.

Here is screenshots:
http://teki.jpn.ph/tmp/dillo/euro.html
If it is not displayed like this, it will be thought that a problem is
font setting of gtk1.

BTW, Although possibly you were already reported by Rudolf Polzer,
he found a bug on PPC about endian problem. and fixed by my latest
patch(dillo-0.8.5-i18n-misc-20051127).

Regards,
Kiyo

Bug#342187: dillo: IPv6 support

It could be nice to have a support of IPv6 into dillo. As this protocol
is getting more popular in several part of the world (mainly Asia and
Europe) because of IP shortage, ISP and corporated systems are switching
to IPv6 in order to allow their growth to continue. So having an
IPv4-only web browser means not beeing able to read those web sites.

ipv6 is enabled in dillos configure.. can you try configuring ipv6 for you
and trying to surf to an ipv6 webpage? and posting the log msgs and/or error
msgs here?

Bug#341228: mazeofgalious: patent infringement

2005-12-12 Thread Gürkan Sengün
This package is not redistributable due to patented game design in Japan
(and maybe others) and should remove from Debian. Please read the
comments at the ITP[0] of mog from several other Debian members for more
 information.

I have read them and I still disagree to you. Youo claim it is patented,
however a search of my side on the following places didn't yield any results:

Please tell me which patents these are.

 * The title screen in start.pcx which includes the trademark Konami
and a derived game logo. Compare the layout and font of the words; they
look like a near-exact match, with just a color change and an increased
size. Creating an original logo design, and avoiding the trademarked
company name would solve this issue. For reference, BTW, a quick search
on the USPTO website indicates that there are no trademarks on the game
name itself, only on Konami; on the other hand, choosing an original
game name would avoid some extra trouble, and make it easier to claim
 the logo image is original.

No more words of Konami can be found in the package in sid. Should
there be any problems with the name of the game, I can change it, any
suggestions? Pac Man and Bomber Man clones are called what they are too,
not different names.

 * The Konami logo in konami.pcx; trademarked and copyrighted by Konami.
This should be removed entirely, as should any and all references to
the word konami in the entire work.

This was also fixed with: http://bugs.debian.org/341501

 * It is possible, given these issues, that some of the other graphics
were not drawn from scratch, and may be modified versions of the
original graphics. Most look original to me, but to be certain, it
would be a good idea to contact the original author of the graphics set.
Any non-original graphics need to be replaced by original graphics.

I can not really check that, however I have forwarded your concerns to
upstream but haven't gotten a reply yet. Feel free to send me a more
detailed report on which graphics exactly and I can try to work out to
replace them.

Cheers,
Gürkan

Bug#343058: Split emutos from aranym

2005-12-12 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: aranym
Version: 0.9.0final-1
Severity: wishlist

Could you possible update and split the following file to another place?

$ dpkg -L aranym |grep tos
/usr/share/aranym/etos512k.img

The reason for this is, so a) it can be found by searching emutos, as
it's called upstream. b) other atari emulators can also use it (hatari, stonx).

I've got an ITP for stonx here: http://bugs.debian.org/146623

Tell me if you need help with the split, I'd be glad to help... Probably
it makes sense to make it a new package, since it's a different
project/upstream?

Bug#344257: ITP: gifsicle -- Powerful tool for manipulating GIF images

Description : Powerful tool for manipulationg GIF images
This is a powerful tool for manipulating GIF image files.
Extensive options let you control what exactly it does. It has good
support
for transparency and colormap manipulation, simple image
transformations
(cropping, flipping), and creating, deconstructing, and editing GIF

which it can also optimize for space.

algorithm used by GIF images. When this first became an issue several

ago, Unisys stated that programs available at no cost to the user, like
Gifsicle, could use LZW compression in the context of GIF images
without

obtaining a license. If you plan to distribute GIF writing code in a

Bug#293213: Too small fonts

2005-10-10 Thread Gürkan Sengün
Hi Alexander

I'm trying to use the dillo browser because of its sheer speed on a p2
300, however, I'm running it in 1024x768 resolution, so the fonts in the
gui and text edits, button, etc on home pages get very small, almost
 unreadable.

1024x768 on what monitor size? 14, smaller? bigger?
You mean the gtk fonts or the HTML rendered in dillo?
You can change the gtk font sizes using
gtk-theme-switch - GTK+ theme switching utility
run switch, click on the icon top right, and select your
own, larger font.

Bug#333316: Message belongs to README.Debian / debconf abuse

2005-10-11 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: lapack3
Version: 3.0.2531a-6
Severity: important

Please can you put the following message into README.Debian?

One or more minor lapack library errors were discovered when this package
was built. As of the time of this writing, the cause of these errors are
unknown. These errors are typically similar to those routinely reported by
other lapack users, and are often manifested by a loss of a few decimal
places of precision in certain routines under conditions near overflow or
underflow. One should nevertheless review the discrepancies before using
lapack for serious numerical research.

Bug#333322: Message belongs to README.Debian / debconf abuse

2005-10-11 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: libraw1394-5
Version: 0.10.1-1.1
Severity: important

Please can you put the following message into README.Debian?

The device file /dev/raw1394 will be created for libraw1394. This library
is used by applications to access FireWire devices.

The default access permissions allows only users in the disk group.
This restrictive setting was chosen since raw1394 allows almost full
access to the FireWire bus and all connected devices are accessible, which
may include hard disks.

If you don't intend to connect sensitive devices and e.g. only want to get
video streams out of a camera, you can relax the permissions. If you
don't have malicious users on your system, you can allow access for all
users with this command (executed as the root user):
chmod 666 /dev/raw1394

Bug#340471: dillo: Open URL (Ctrl-L) No Longer Works

2005-11-24 Thread Gürkan Sengün

In previous versions of Dillo, one could open a URL by keying Ctrl-L or

clicking the file menu and selecting Open URL. In either case a small
dialog was displayed wherein one could type the URL.

Now the input focus jumps to the url window. I think this is better GUI wise.

This box no longer appears on the screen from either path.

That's right. I consider this not a bug, and would close it if you agree.
Otherwise it's just wishlist.

Bug#398379: tesseract: FTBFS on 64 bit arches: strngs.h:171: error: cast from 'char*' to 'int' loses precision

2006-12-06 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Bryan

I do use Tesseract myself and was recently made a developer by Ray
Smith to
do the 64-bit port:
http://sourceforge.net/project/memberlist.php?group_id=158586
Splitting it up
into two packages is a good idea, but it may need to be split more in
the
future.

Thanks, what more packages can you think of?

As I understand it, Ray is working on bringing the training software
back to life, so other language support will likely happen after
that. Also,
any idea how long packages usually stay in the new queue for?

Sounds good, I will keep an eye on this. The new queue? Anything
between 2 hours

to 2 months. Normally 1 - 3 weeks. No rule without exception.

Bug#387505: gworkspace.app: Debian package version is very outdated

2006-09-15 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Is this package still properly maintained?

yes it is.

The current Debian package of gworkspace.app is at version 0.7.0 which
originally dates from 18 Mar 2005, the good old times of the last Debian stable

release. In the meantime, gworkspace.app has evolved considerably and is at
stable upstream release version 0.8.3 since August 31 2006, but the the Debian
package for unstable has only seen some recompilations of the outdated version
from stable.

yes because if you check the details about the latest versions it requires
a newer version of gnustep. which just got (and still is) being built
in sid.

It would be really nice if a current version could be shipped with the next
stable Debian release.

indeed. and there's not much people working on software linking against
gnustep on debian. you used to maintain a few pakcages too...

Actually it would be even nicer, if all of the GNUstep
related environment would be completely up to date.

i'm sure those maintainers and developers are working hard to
accomplish this. still you're free to help :)

Thanks, P. *8^)

Bug#393086: wmaker bug strike#383906/strike #393086

2006-10-16 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Dear Dmitry

You proposed me to create a package for DebianSwirl theme.
Thank you for the good idea. I created such package.
It depends on wmaker only.
The package file is called wmaker-theme-debianswirl_0.1_all.deb.
The installation went correctly on my system.
I have two questions, please excuse me if they are boring for you:

1) Should I close the bug #383906 and report a new RFP to WNPP,
or there is some special procedure to 'move' the bug to wnpp?

Yes please close #383086, then create a new ITP (not RFP), since
you have the intention to package the software (and you already did so).

2) I am not official Debian Developer. Can you act as a Sponsor for me
and upload the package to Debian repository?

Well I am not official Debian Developer either. I can tell you to
look at:

http://people.debian.org/~mpalmer/debian-mentors_FAQ.html
http://sponsors.debian.net
http://mentors.debian.net

3) I noticed that the background image is not switched whan I switch
the WindowMaker theme through the menu. I discovered that the
image file name is written without a full path in Themes/Debian:

WorkspaceBack =3D (spixmap, debian.tiff, rgb:8c/81/65);

rather than
WorkspaceBack =3D (spixmap,
/usr/share/WindowMaker/Backgrounds/debian.tiff, rgb:8c/81/65);

Is it a bug?

No, it's not a bug. It should work without the full path.

Yours,
Guerkan

Bug#394802: wmaker: please revert changes to Defaults/WindowMaker

2006-10-23 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello

If you want the old brown theme, it comes here, and one user wants to package
it:
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org/msg250742.html

I will not ship this theme with the wmaker package since it comes from a
different upstream.

I am sorry for the stoney change I did, I will work on getting it restored
into better shape on this.

However the default keyboard shortcuts cause problems with other software
(Certainly f11,f12 and meta-1..n,0).

The current still HAS a Debian inspired background, however you will have to
clean up your Window Maker configuration before it is used (remove
~/GNUstep/Defaults/W*)

The new packaeg did not overwrite your configfile in your homedir. It was
you who did so, by probably selecting save session by default or some other
funny thing.

Indeed it is not nice to change the default upstream configuration to
something that breaks other peoples' software. That's why it got fixed
now. I will try to find a pleasant solution for all parties and document
these changes.

Yours,
Gürkan

Bug#393086: Recover default WindowMaker theme

2006-10-14 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Dear Dmitry,

The default WindowMaker theme was changed to more
'GNUstep-like' one (see bug #286344).

The old default theme loooked nice to me, and I see
no way to switch back to it in the new wmaker version.

I see a way. The theme you want is not from www.windowmaker.info
but from Gary Burke. You can find it at this address:
http://themes.freshmeat.net/projects/debianswirl/

Background image called Debian.jpg is replaced with the new
debian.tiff,

and the old default color scheme is also unrecoverable.

I suggest that the old default theme is stored under any name.

I suggest you rename this bug to an ITP or RFP and package the
above mentioned software (Window Maker theme) and maintain it
for Debian (or install it yourself and use it).

You can read here the details about making Debian packages:
http://www.debian.org/devel/

Gurkan

Bug#392943: wmaker: Broken keyboard shortcuts with new default theme

2006-10-14 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Peter

I disagree with your grave severity. The software is perfectly usable
without
the so called standard configuration that you say is default by
Window Maker.

After an initial shock over the new default theme (which this bug
does not
mean to put in question), I found the WindowMaker keyboard shortcuts,
for
example for switching workspaces, not working at all.

are you sure they work if you take the upstream tarball and build it?
you can set them in WPrefs, the 5th icon from the right.

This does not come as a
surprise, given that most configuration options have vanished in
'/etc/Defaults/WindowMaker'. Please revert to the previous, working
default
configuration. Regards, Peter p.s. On a side note, why is the wmaker
package
not allowed to ship with a Debian-inspired theme by default (see bug
#286344)? As a default, the Debian theme looked much better

who says it's not allowed to ship a debian-inspired theme by default?
did you

even try it with an account that has no GNUstep directory? It does
have a debian theme, just not the one it used to have.
THE debian theme? your opinion is pretty subjective, and i disagree
to it.

the brown was very brown...

Bug#398642: links2 -g still doesn't work 2.1pre25-2, missing X support?

2006-11-30 Thread Gürkan Sengün

hello mikko

it works here. can you tell me what echo $DISPLAY says
in your xterm?
there's already 2.1pre26-1, but also 25-1 and -2 should work again.

i can not reproduce your problem. what x version do you have?
what debian version? what kernel? what x driver?

if x is missing, that's a bug. it's the one that i use
most of the time.

yours,
guerkan

Bug#400051: antigravitaattori: Segfault attempting to start; fail to load texture

2006-11-30 Thread Gürkan Sengün

dear pascal

please can you try antigravitaattori 0.0.2-3 and tell me what it says?
i don't have debian gnu/linux on a 64bit platform, so i'll need your
help to get this bug sorted out.

if your mirror is slow/doesn't have it yet, try from here:
http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/antigrav/ (you'll need to build the source
package yourself)

thank you,

Bug#400051: antigravitaattori: Segfault attempting to start; fail to load texture

2006-12-01 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Pascal

I've applied and tried your patch, but failed, see logs at
http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/antigrav/

If you get it to work, I'll be glad to upload it.

yours,
guerkan

PS: Looking at your diff, i see that you've made changes to main.cpp
and m3dtexture.cpp without using the patch system.

I know, nothing special about this. There's plenty more packages that
do it exactly like that. It's just a few lines here and there.

 I feel like this is

not the proper way of doing things.

I feel I disagree to your feelings.

hello bryan

thank you for your patches. do you use tesseract yourself?
i'll wait for the tesseract to get through new queue before
i apply your 64bit patch. (i've split it up into two packages
to not waste much space with the data on the mirrors)

Bug#500543: segmentation fault with svg font

Loading this font works fine:

But when I try to save it as sfd fontforge segfaults. The same happens
when I try to generate an otf font. This also happens with the stable (etch)
version of fontforge.

I have compiled FontForge-20080927 with the configure option
--with-type3, but this also didn't help. If I remove all these
lines with hkern... from the .svg file, everything work well.

Thanks for the hint.
The attached patch should fix.

Unrelated issue:
The svg standard recommends that glyph-names be unique within a font.
This font does not follow that recommendation. This may cause unexpected
behavior.

Many thanks for the suggested fixes.

Please compile the package with GUI, and https (if possible),
enabled. Links is fast and simple for old hardware, which cannot run

Bug#356492: ITP: spout -- Tiny abstract bw 2D cave-shooter

2008-09-11 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Javier

This game so rocks, i played it long before it was ITP'd, and still
it's not in Debian. Unbelievable? Disappointing? I don't know what it
is...

Are you still working on it? Would you mind me finishing the package
and maintaining it in Debian? I don't mind co-maintainers...

Man, I have an ITP I haven't touched in months, but I am coming back to
health, so yes, I would like to finish the package myself, but yes, I would
also love to have you as a co-maintainer.

Is that good? I am sorry I haven't been able to get it in post-Etch, but
working with you would definitely be good. So let's make it work.

Good to hear, get well soon. What's your hiscore?

I have the latest upload at
http://sid.ethz.ch/debian/spout/

The reject reasons are in the bug number and should be easy to fix.

Subject: Re: kic software and its manual page - updated

Hi Gürkan,

i just wanted to let you know that i used your draft version of manual page
for kic and debian. i hope you don't mind. i can update it anytime, no
 problem.
 it's in debian now
 http://packages.debian.org/kic

Thanks for your efforts, I really appreciate this.
In the meantime, I improved an entry routine somewhat, as I
encountered a problem while trying to draw another test mask. The
corresponding fix is attached (should be applied with 'patch -p0 -u'),
together with the new version of the manpage which has minor
modifications, but makes reference to the improved entry routine.
Anyway, documentation and help is still bad, I know..

The patch just changes version number (from 2.4a to 2.4b) and
modifies point.c to use floating point instead of integer numbers
for coordinate entries, with integer type cast after conversion
into internal units. This allows to enter coordinates by values at
the highest possible precision.

In case this diff is problematic, all the files and new tarball
can be found at http://yargo.andropov.org/src/kic/.

and it could even be really free software if this could be fixed:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=454242

Ok. Well, at least for research and instruction it is usable already...

kind regards,

Bug#213544: memtester won't test all RAM on systems with more than 4 GB

2008-02-10 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Christian

just for the record: this bug is still present in 2.93.1-3.1. It is
however fixed in the unstable version of memtester (v4.0.8):

http://nerdbynature.de/bits/memtester/

Thanks for testing it.

@Guerkan: any chance the stable version will get a fix for this?

I don't think so, but you are free to use a backport I did:
http://krum.ethz.ch/backports/memtester/

Thanks,
Christian.

Cheers,
Guerkan

Really very cute game. (yes i know this description sucks,
i'll think of something better for the actual package)

seems like there's something already, but probably needs be improved:

Why we have choosen this licens is because we want people to be able to
send in patches, bug-fixes and compile the game for their platform. We
don't want to have several diffrent versions floating around the net
with their own little features etc. There should only be one Teewars
and that one should be the very best it can be.

Bug#362995: ITA: unalz -- The utility used for decompressing alzip

Hi Liu

Happy new year!

I will fix these bugs as soon as possible. And I am glad to
co-maintain unalz with Gürkan Sengün. When I finish this package, I
will send it to Gürkan Sengün for advice.

What's the status on this?

I've had a look at your package. It basically looks fine.
 Please:
   - use the Homepage field to report about the upstream homepage.
   - have a look at existing bugs
 #455178: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes
#453559: unalz: debian/watch fails to report upstream's version
   - see if you can upgrade to policy 3.7.3.
 - try to fix this warning:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: debian/unalz/usr/bin/unalz shouldn't be
linked with libm.so.6 (it uses none of its symbols).
(hint: -Wl,--as-needed when linking could help)

Also, Gurkan Sengun told me he was interested in co-maintaining this.
Would you like to co-maintain this package with him? He is an
experienced debian maintainer, and it would probably be easier to find
sponsors if he checked the package for problems himself.

Bug#461885: O: brutalchess -- 3d chess with reflection of the chessmen

2008-01-21 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I orphan this package now because finding sponsors is more time intensive
than maintaining the software and the upstream doesn't really react to mails
anymore.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you are *sure* you will have enough time and attention to
work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.
