because the hardware is to
old, then Linux become as usable as Windows.

an API or not?
And there is also the Jack Audio Connection Kit existant.
Can it be used to solve this problems here?

Note that when I said I wasn't sure autovacuum worked
before the upgrade -- it sure did work in 8.3.
What I don't know is whether it worked in 8.4 after the
install but before the cluster upgrade.
Anything else I can to do help ?

Running 8.3 - 8.4 pg_upgradecluster apparently fails to
transfer the LC_MESSAGES setting while the man page says it
should (I didn't use any of the commandline options
regarding LC_* or locale):
