Bug#915210: linux-image-4.9.0-8-amd64: kernel oops when plugging in pvr-usb2
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.130-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Whenever I plug in my Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB2, I get a kernel oops. I've looked online, and apparently others have this problem as well. It looks like a fix for a different problem was backported from 4.11, but was missing two additional patches. Have a look here: https://pvrusb2.isely.narkive.com/Aonnv0UP/kernel-oops-with-pvrusb2-and-wintv-hvr-1950 Which refers to a kernel bug report here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198675 Can you please apply the fixes mentioned in the above reports? I'm happy to test any updated packages, but I haven't done any coding in nearly 20 years so applying patches to kernel source is probably well beyond me. The kernel bug was reported for the ARM version, perhaps it needs to be applied to the amd64 tree as well? Bug#716843: cups: CUPS doesn't properly initialize Lexmark E238
Package: cups Version: 1.5.3-5 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, After upgrading my print server to Wheezy, I've had a lot of problems printing on my Lexmark E238 laser printer. When printing from a linux client, it will sometimes print just the top corner zoomed to fill the whole page. This happens roughly half of the time, and only on the first page of a multi page print job. Otherwise it prints properly. I'm using the pcl5 driver. (Generic PCL 5 Printer Foomatic/ljet3). If I print from a Windows box using direct/raw access (with the Lexmark driver specifically for this printer), I get page after page of gobbledegook (probably PCL6 source code.) If I set a windows machine to print using a generic postscript driver, it acts the same as a linux client. It sometimes works, but sometimes prints the first page zoomed way in. Given the symptoms, it seems to me that the printer isn't being properly initialized. It doesn't recognise PCL6, and sometimes gets the resolution wrong using PCL 5. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really like to have reliable printing again before Jessie comes out. Many icons are black, as is konsole background, and lots of things don't get rendered. Also, I've been getting some minor graphical corruption with day to day use lately. Bug#452376: further info
I was in a bit of a rush as I was finishing up the bug report, so I forgot to add some extra info: The Dell C400 uses an i830 chip. I invoke suspend on this laptop using s2ram -f -p -s Any other combination of options fails altogether. This is similar to what others have seen http://osdir.com/ml/linux.kernel.suspend.devel/2006-12/msg00163.html I have to use an ubuntu compiled kernel, they must have an extra critical kernel patch. When the colors go bad, there is nothing I can do about it save rebooting. Switching to console doesn't help. Restarting kdm doesn't help. Sometimes s2ram DOES work okay. It seems that the longer X has been running, the better. If I try to suspend right after logging in (a common testing situation), it always fails. If I've been doing other stuff for a while, it may work. Could it be a video memory allocation issue? Mark -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Here's an extract of an strace -L as normal uses: open(/dev/parport0, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/0, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport1, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/1, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport2, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/2, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport3, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/3, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport4, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/4, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport5, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/5, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport6, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/6, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport7, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/7, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) ioperm(0x378, 0x3, 0x1) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) open(/dev/port, O_RDWR|O_NOCTTY) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) open(/dev/lp0, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/lp1, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/lp2, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) And here's a similar extract as root. open(/dev/parports/1, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport2, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/2, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport3, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/3, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport4, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/4, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport5, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/5, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport6, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/6, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parport7, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/parports/7, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) ioperm(0x378, 0x3, 0x1) = 0 ioperm(0x378, 0x3, 0) = 0 open(/dev/port, O_RDWR|O_NOCTTY) = 3 close(3)= 0 open(/dev/lp0, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/lp1, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/dev/lp2, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) As you can see, root happily opens /dev/port, but normal user doesn't.
