process. AFAIK it does use acpi functionality, so maybe acpi support was

Are you sure you modprobe'd the same modules when running 2.6.26-1? The
virtualbox sources weren't changed at all. What happens when you recompile the
module with module-assistant yourself?

Are you sure that gnome-power-manager is no longer running? That means did you
check via ps?
