Bug#671798: I agree with Joey, but...

2013-05-03 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
The output Joey cites is awkward, I agree with him. But IMHO this is not the
main issue here.

The default behaviour of GNU parallel in Debian diverts from all introductory
documentation available. The config that is included in Debian just cost me an
hour figuring out why parallel did not work for me as intended by its author.

If one chooses to install GNU parallel one expects it to behave like GNU
parallel. Please remove the option in /etc/parallel/config or maybe add a
debconf question about this as a compromise (with --gnu as default).

Thank you! :)

Bug#401824: iceape: Profilemanager has a Start Debian button

Start iceape with the --profilemanager option.

The resulting dialog has a Start Debian button which is obviously
wrong, since my Debian box is already started. ;-)

Well, the subject says it all. ;-) When rigth-clicking an image file

should be an entry in the Open with... submenu of the context menu.

Bug#384941: Short description of konsolekalendar could be better

2006-08-28 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: konsolekalendar
Version: 4:3.5.4-1
Severity: minor

The current short description of konsolekalendar reads:

KDE konsole personal organizer

KonsoleKalendar is not really a personal organizer. You can only
access KDE calendars, but not e.g. address books. It is just a
calendar. Also konsole instead of console is wrong since this
program doesn't only work with KDE's Konsole. My suggestion would be
to use the first sentence of the konsolekalendar man-page:

KonsoleKalendar is a command line interface to KDE calendars.

The last sentence of the package description currently reads:

everything. ;-)

has a patch.

Without gnuift you can't index your images and the package kmrml is

index their pictures in a local file system.

Bug#367241: kdelibs-data: Patterns to match file extensions in .desktop files should match both lower and upper case

2006-05-14 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: kdelibs-data
Version: 4:3.5.2-2
Severity: normal

When you execute the command

grep -E =\*\ `dpkg --listfiles kdelibs-data | grep mimelnk`

you'll see that some .desktop-files define file name patterns to match
both upper case and lower case extensions while others only contain a
pattern to match lower case extensions. This seems to be completely
arbitrary. E.g. the pattern in x-python.desktop is *.py while the
pattern in x-ruby.desktop is *.rb;*.RB;*.ruby;*.RUBY.

I think this should be unified so all Patterns also match the upper
case form of the listed extensions. Files created on a Windows system
often have an upper case extension. With the current situation such
files are not associated with the appropriate programs in many
cases. Furthermore I think there is no rease to consider the file
program.py to be a Phython program and program.PY not to.

Cheers, Stefan Borggraefe!

Bug#364782: dazuko-source: configure fails if /bin/sh isn't symlinked to /bin/bash

2006-04-25 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: dazuko-source
Version: 2.2.0-1
Severity: important

I'm using dash as a sh-compatible shell. So /bin/sh points to
/bin/dash on my system. The configure script of dazuko-source fails
with this configuration and produces the following output:

When using the splashy package (Version 0.1.6) to have a graphical

per-VC fonts: .

I get the follwing output when booting:
Tue Jan 24 22:27:16 2006: Setting up per-VC fonts: /dev/tty1, /dev/tty2,

Note that I had to manually switch from the splashy screen to console
1 and to press Ctrl+C to continue the boot process. The last output
before the crash was /dev/tty6, . The first output after pressing
Ctrl+C was Setting up ALSA...done.

I had the following config file fonty from the fonty package in
/etc/console-tools/config.d:

###DEBCONF###
# the configuration of this file was done by debconf and can be
# overwritten.
#
# you should use dpkg-reconfigure fonty to configure this file.

After removing this file the crash wasn't triggered anymore. I think
this is because the Setting up per-VC fonts: of console-screen.sh
isn't executed then.

Bug#347575: xserver-xorg: DRI cannot be enabled with my RV280 (Radeon 9200 Pro)

2006-01-11 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-3
Severity: normal

I somehow cannot enable DRI. I always get the message

(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.

in the Xorg.0.log.

I tried many configuration options already and all the hints from the
FAQs and newsgroups I could find, but to no avail. I think all the
necessary kernel modules are loaded:

$ lsmod | grep -E (drm|agp|radeon)
radeon 97120 1
drm64724 2 radeon
via_agp 9344 1
agpgart31496 2 drm,via_agp

My kernel is the latest Debian kernel from sid (from package
linux-image-2.6.15-1-k7).

I commented some things out in the attached xorg.conf. I hope this
helps a bit to isolate the cause of the bug. My X-Server works with
these lines commented in or out. DRI can't be enabled in any case.

Maybe the output from lspci could be useful, too...

This looks as if the radeon module is in use. What does

 sudo lsof /dev/dri/card0

 say?

Ugh, this was the problem:

# lsof /dev/dri/card0
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
3ddeskd 19721 stefan memCHR 226,0 18084 /dev/dri/card0

After killing 3ddeskd (from package 3ddesktop), Xorg was able to use the DRI
again. When I start 3ddeskd after Xorg, I can use both together. But when
3ddeskd is already running, Xorg can't enable its DRI support.

As a workaround I added

  killall 3ddeskd

into

  /etc/kde3/kdm/Xreset

which seems to work.

I think theses packages should work flawlessy together out of the box and so
this is still bug report-worthy. But I'm not sure which package needs to be
fixed and whether this bug report should be moved to another package.

Greetings, Stefan!

Bug#345554: lighttpd: Cgi-bin executables in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ are not accessible via http://localhost/cgi-bin/

2006-01-01 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.8-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

According to the Debian Policy Manual section 11.5...

Cgi-bin executable files are installed in the directory
 /usr/lib/cgi-bin/cgi-bin-name

and should be referred to as
 http://localhost/cgi-bin/cgi-bin-name;

The latter does not work when you installed lighttpd.

The following two lines added to lighttpd.conf did the trick for me:

$HTTP[url] =~ /cgi-bin/ { cgi.assign = (  =  ) }
alias.url = ( /cgi-bin/ = /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ )

Of course the cgi and alias modules need to be enabled, too.

Bug#344938: lighttpd: create-mime.assign.pl has wrong permissions and thus isn't executed

2005-12-27 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.8-1
Severity: important

I noticed that *.html files were served with the MIME-Type
application/octet-stream instead of text/html. The cause for this was
that the file

/usr/share/lighttpd/create-mime.assign.pl

was missing its execute bit and thus wasn't executed when lighttpd
started.

chmod u+x /usr/share/lighttpd/create-mime.assign.pl

fixed the problem for me.

Bug#338429: linux-image-2.6.14-1-k7: Can't bring up interface usb0 with Linux 2.6.14, works fine with 2.6.12.

2005-11-10 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: linux-image-2.6.14-1-k7
Version: 2.6.14-2
Severity: important

I have the most recent versions of linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 and
linux-image-2.6.14-1-k7 installed. I need to use the usbnet module to
communicate with my Sharp Zaurus SL-C750C via usb.

When I boot into the 2.6.12 kernel everything works fine and I can
bring up the interface with

  modprobe usbnet
  ifup usb0

When using the 2.6.14 kernel on the same system (alas everything else
is unchanged) I get the following output in dmesg when I connect the Zaurus:

usb 2-1.3: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
usb 2-1.3: device descriptor read/64, error -71

When I issue the ifup usb0 command I get the following output on the
console:

SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
SIOCSIFDSTADDR: No such device
usb0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

This is the the entry for usb0 in /etc/network/interfaces:
