Bug#496174: bacula-director-pgsql: duplicate bug report for #493092
Package: bacula-director-pgsql Version: 2.4.2-1 Followup-For: Bug #496174 This seems to be a duplicate of bug #493092. I cannot reproduce the removal of the bacula-dir.conf file, but I'm having perl 5.10 from lenny not 5.8.8 from etch. piti:~# apt-get install --reinstall bacula-director-pgsql Reading package lists... The 'grave' severity doesn't seem justified, but that's the mantainer decision. Should the bugs be merged? Bug#492670: bacula-director-pgsql: Apparent bad dependencies (RC?)
On Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 4:21 AM, Ross Boylan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This looks to me as if this might be RC, becauses current dependencies will be impossible to fulfill on lenny. But I'm no packaging expert. There is no depedency problem. If it where you could not be able to install it either. Package: bacula-director-pgsql Depends: bacula-director-common (= ${binary:Version}), dbconfig-common (= 1.8.19), postgresql-client (= 7.4) | postgresql-client-8.1 | postgresql-client-7.4 , ${shlibs:Depends} Recommends: postgresql-8.3 | postgresql-8.2 | postgresql-8.1 | postgresql-8.0 | postgresql (= 7.4) It looks to me as if someone who only has postgresql 8.3 installed, which I think is the only version for lenny, will therefore have (only) postgresql-client-8.3, and will be unable to install this package. No. I have the `postgresql' package installed which pulled postgresql-8.3 postgresql-client-8.3 by dependency. Additionally, the depends and recommends are inconsistent, and filled with lots of old stuff. I don't know if this program, built against 8.3, will even run properly against older versions. Yes, this depends/recommends on old versions could be cleared. Do you want to make this a wishlist? I currently do have postgresql-client-8.1 installed and have not encountered problems. However, when I attempt to remove it in aptitude, I am informed that bacula-director-pgsql needs to go too (although I have postgresql-client-8.[23] installed as well). I am running with bacula-director-pgsql v 2.2.8-8 with ssl enabled. That's because of the recommends. Related bug: 486664. That's another story. Bug#433660: postfix: Proposal for init.d script handling of multiple instances
On Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 6:35 PM, Thijs Kinkhorst [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I'd like to vote for inclusion of this init script into the postfix package. We're using it here and I think it's a very elegant solution: it just uses the already available Postfix configuration variable to see which services to start. That makes it work exactly the same for the normal, 1-instance user and at the same time without additional editing of the init script for those using multiple instances. The most important thing is to make sure the new init.d script has the same functionality for those that are running a *single* postfix instance. Although this setup is mainly used for ISPs, I'll like to have this feature for postfix. Since the final freeze for lenny is in effect, this is a new feature and it won't be accepted as freeze exception. I hope to have it on lenny+1. I have never heard of the Debian packages doing that. How are you certain that the Debian package did, and that neither you or some other program did? This is a fresh install. The directory /etc/bacula/ doesn't exist at all before the install. I just did a fresh install on my workstation. See the attached log file for the hole process. The second configuration file (.dist) was not created at all at the install, but the install has failed as it was described in bug #441995. So, I've commented the USE ... line and executed a dpkg-reconfigure bacula-director-mysql which now will succeed. In conclussion, the second configuration file bacula-dir.conf.dist is a side effect for bug #441995 which I hope to be fixed for lenny. The change seems to be introduced in v0.97-29 since up to v0.97-28 has the same ordering. I've written change not bug since I'm not sure it is a problem. That is because `update-grub' is supposed to create a list with a descending ordering. This means that there is a char comparison and the one with a higher value should go first, for example -openvz-amd64 would go before -amd64 ('a' char vs 'o' char). The same way -2.6.26-1-amd64 has precedence over -2.6.25-2-amd64 (25 vs 26). Thanks piti:~# apt install grub/stable Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... On Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 9:07 PM, Marco Sinhoreli [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In virtinst package, we are pointing the pygrub and hvmloader to /etc/xen-default/bin directory files. To us, this is sufficient to fix our package issue. I suggest to use alternatives to point these to /usr/bin and so, standardize with another distros. Well, I think this is the easy way to solve it. According to the FHS this is not allowed: 3.7.1. Purpose The /etc hierarchy contains configuration files. A configuration file is a local file used to control the operation of a program; it must be static and cannot be an executable binary. 3.7.2. Requirements No binaries may be located under /etc. I don't know if the directory /etc/xen-default/bin contains some binaries but after the name it seems that it does. As a location for XEN defaults it is annoying to create another directory instead using /etc/default/. Thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I've never used Xen, but i thought the -xen kernel should be run on domU and dom0. So how should they be handled, can you please be more specific ? The same problem I reported for grub legacy at [1]. You can read there an explanation. However, this is still going to be a problem in lenny because dom0 support is missing completely and domU support is only on i386. I think a 'wontfix' tag would have been more appropriate for grub legacy. At least in grub2 I hope it will be fixed. I just want it removed from alpha arch as it fails there, so it can be accepted to testing. I thought it was not enough to just upload with ! alpha arch as it has sucessfully been built on alpha architecture before. Yes, I thought you wanted to do that. Another upload with !alpha, mips, mipsel arch I thought is the only solution. Anyway, this should be fixed for any future upload. (I don't know what will happen if a security upload is needed. At build time these arches will be excluded?!) Sorry if I have understood something. Please tell me how I make it accepted to testing. Luk Claes took care of this by adding an [alpha] tag in the subject [1] which probably means removal only from that arch. On Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 3:52 AM, Nick Hastings [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Please note that I think it is vitally important to include a README.Debian file that includes at least the following instructions 1. grub-install (hd0) 2. update-grub It seems that if the above steps aren't taken the user will be left with an unbootable system. Should I file a bug report for this? I've just switched to grub2 from grub on my workstation. To be precise, I've installed grub2 (which depends on grub-pc) and purged all the packages related to grub (grub-set-default, grub-splashimages and maybe others). At the configuration question I've answered no for the chainloading from grub-legacy. I've rebooted the machine to see if it works and the surprise was that the boot menu was the same, that is from grub-legacy instead of grub2 (with xen options too). The only explanation is that I should have run grub-install (hd0) to *really* switch to grub2, but why the menu.lst from grub-legacy was not removed on purge? The second step update-grub is already executed automatically at postinstall and it creates the grub.cfg file. Thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#498235: cacti: up to version 8.7b should depend on rrdtool 1.3
Package: cacti Version: 0.8.7b-2.1 Severity: important Cacti does not support rrdtool from 1.3.x series. Under console - configuration - settings - RRDTool Utility Version we have two options: * RRDTool 1.2.x (default) * RRDTool 1.0.x There is no support for the 1.3.x series because at the time 0.8.7b was released rrdtool 1.3 was still in development. The new version of rrdtool (1.3.x) has changed the ABI, thus some of the commands / arguments has changed their meaning. For example, the font arguments are not expecting a path anymore, but a font name. Because of this the following settins are broken on cacti 0.8.7x or before: * RRDTool Default Font Path (under settings - paths) * Default RRDtool 1.2 Fonts (under settings - visual) The direct consequence is that the graphs contain unformatted (and ugly) text along with the corresponding values. Bug#413392: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686: system freeze for `trident' video driver + `pop art squares' screen saver
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-11 Severity: important Hi all, I have this problem on my old computer: Intel Celeron, 1100 MHz with a Trident Microsystems CyberBlade/i1 video board. I've included this information because the reported problem does not exist on other servers used in production (more powerfull). I'm using Gnome as a desktop environment. Bug#413392: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686: system freeze for `trident' video driver + `pop art squares' screen saver

Yes. I had the latest xorg* software installed until yesterday. I've notice today that a new version is available (build -15) and will make the upgrade and see if the problem persists. I think that still there is a *kernel* problem too, besides the *xorg* problem (if any). The OS must not freeze on any circumstances, no matter how buggy a running process is. Also, the problem might be from the video *driver* and not the *kernel*. Thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It seems to me that the code is commented by mistake, otherwise it would be deleted from the main script. I suspect that I copied that code from some other packages and then left it commented out just in case that nagios needs this more elaborate handling as well. Do you consider that 'nagios' doesn't need stop action retrying after the first attempt? fwiw, I did not find any revision of the init script in svn that had this code present _and_ enabled. I am now tempted to treat this as a non-bug and close it. What exactly do you suggest doing? I suggest to do one of the following: 1. if this code is not necessary it should be removed from the script; 2. if the first attempt to stop nagios fails many times it should be included in the script. But non-PAE kernels are also required by developers, students and other people who use Xen on their desktop boxes to do OS research, multiplatform development and so on. Providing only PAE kernel disables the ability to run at least NetBSD and OpenSolaris, may be some other OSes too. Please, build also the non-PAE kernels in the future. IMHO this bug should be wontfixed. We already provide binary kernel images for an excessive number of flavors; it's unrealistic to think that we would be able to provide prepackaged images for all possible use cases, the important thing is to provide images that are usable on all target /hardware/, and if a user needs more specific options afterwards that's why we have linux-tree and linux-source packages. One search for xen-hypervisor on the Debian packages gives: xen-hypervisor-3.0.3-1-amd64 xen-hypervisor-3.0.3-1-i386 xen-hypervisor-3.0.3-1-i386-pae This means that there is a non-PAE version already available (read the package description). Bug#481103: on upgrade postinstall configuration replaces the modified /etc/default/bindgraph
Package: bindgraph Version: 0.2a-3 Severity: important I've upgraded the package and on all hosts the custom configuration file /etc/default/bindgraph is being replaced without warning. I've found that it creates the file based on the debconf information obtained at the installation (not on upgrades), but it should not modify the configuration file. Other packages are asking for confirmation and even if the answer is YES to replace the file, the old file is moved to something like OLDNAME-old. If the answer is NO, than the new configuration file is created with NAME-new. Though, this has never happened with an file from /etc/default/ directory. Another problem is that the fileslist from the package doesn't have this file: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -S /etc/default/bindgraph dpkg: /etc/default/bindgraph not found. I recommend to do the following: * include the /etc/default/bindgraph in the fileslist; * create the file only at install, not on upgrades. I'm not raising the priority higher than important as this is the mantainer's decision. Bug#489445: 'azureus' renamed to 'vuze'.
merge 487512 489445 kthxbye On 7/5/08, Shaun Jackman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In just four weeks, I'm leaving on vacation for ten weeks. That being the case, I'm not sure I want to push vuze 3.1.1.0 into the archive in time for etch, since I won't be around to help with bugs. On the plus side, azureus 3.0.5.0 already includes a dummy package named vuze that depends on azureus as well as the necessary packages for the web browser that vuze embeds. So, if someone running etch installs the package 'vuze', they should get what they expect. On the downside, this means I can't just package vuze 3.1.1.0 as a new package with a new name and upload it, because it would conflict with the vuze package in azureus 3.0.5.0. I just downloaded vuze 3.1.1.0 and I'll see if it builds and runs without too much trouble. Hi Shaun, I recommend to upload vuze_3.1.1.0 in NEW and request removal on azureus from unstable for the following reasons: * azureus has 3 RC bugs and sooner or latter will be removed from lenny [1]; * vuze_3.0.5.0-1 depends on two packages which are no longer available [2]; Considering that the big blocked for azureus is the upload of 'openjdk' I recommend to not waste time fixing azureus (probably package 3.0.5.2 along with some bug fixes) and go for vuze_3.1.1.0 in lenny (azureus being a dummy package depending on vuze). Thanks for your response. Bug#489719: mailgraph: missing HOMEPAGE and debian/watch
Package: mailgraph Version: 1.14-1.1 Severity: minor As you probably know the final freeze for lenny is in less than 4 weeks. Is there are chance to make a few revisions to the mailgraph package until then? Starting with mailgraph_1.13 (2007-03-28) the homepage URL [1] was changed and it was documented in the changelog [2]. Please add a HOMEPAGE field to this package. Is there is no much trouble please add a debian/watch file to inform us of new upstream releases and fix some of the recommendations from lintian [3]. Also, an update for Standards-Version to 3.8.0 might not require any changes.
