Hello Sandro,

An easy way to check for this is in the file list in the package:

https://packages.debian.org/jessie/all/python-pydot/filelist

You can see there is a very suspicious
/usr/share/pyshared/pydot-1.0.32.egg-info/PKG-INFO in there.

I dug a little bit more in there and it turns out the file
debian/patches/support-py3k.patch is responsible for this. It changes
setup.py and hardcodes the 1.0.32 version (which is a very poor
decision, imo).

I think modifying the patch to have at least the PKGINFO matching the
package version is the way to go.

Thanks, and merry christmas!

Alexandre

Bug#808223: python-pydot: wrong package version

2015-12-17 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: python-pydot
Version: 1.0.28-1

Hello

The package python-pydot has version 1.0.28 in debian. However the
package installed reports as version 1.0.32 (see setup.py in the source
package). This creates confusion with tools such as pip which don't see
the same version reported by the package as the one reported by dpkg.

Thanks for your time and dedication to Debian

Bug#718448: icedove-l10n-fr: same problem with french l10n

2013-08-23 Thread Alexandre Fayolle

Hello Karsten,

Thanks for your time and help on this bug (Nadège is my spouse, and I'm
acting as sysadmin for her).

did this also happen if you have installed another language and you
 start Icedove from the Terminal?

 For example with french (icedove-l10n-es-es)
   $ LANG=es_ES.utf8 icedove

I did as suggested:

1. install icedove-l10n-es
2. run from the command line

alf@lacapelle:~$ LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 icedove

I got the following output on stdout/stderr

(icedove:11434): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.

(icedove:11434): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
enigmail.js: Registered components
mimeVerify.jsm: module initialized

but the interface was displayed in spanish.

I tried to start it in french from the command line (both by giving a
value to the LANG environment variable and without, but my locale is
configured correctly, tried LANG=fr too) without success.

Bug#639347: RFA: psyco -- Python specializing compiler

2011-08-26 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the psyco package, as I no longer use the package and
cannot maintain it properly anymore.

Due to lack of upstream support, maybe the package should be removed from
Debian altogether, as supporting python 2.5 will require significant effort.
Any feedback on this regard is welcome.

The package description is:
Psyco lets you run your existing Python software much faster, with no
 change in your source.
 .
Think of Psyco as a kind of just-in-time (JIT) compiler, a little bit
like Java's, that emit machine code on the fly instead of
interpreting your Python program step by step. The result is that
your unmodified Python programs run faster.
 .
The plan for the next release is to include a fast low-level
interpreter that can be used on non-Intel processors. It will finally
make Psyco portable -- although of course not as fast as it could
possibly be if it could emit real machine code.

Bug#602798: kmail: change in spambayes executable name

2010-11-08 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.4.6-1
Severity: normal
Tags: sid patch

Hello,

I my latest upload of spambayes (1.0.4-6), I've brought the package inline with
the
Policy regarding script names in /usr/bin/ which should not have an extension
such as .py. This impacts kmail, as kmail can use spambayes and expects
/usr/bin/sb_filter.py to be available.

For now, there is a workaround shipped in spambayes, which installs symbolic
links in /usr/bin to ensure backward compatibility of the various scripts which
may use the old commands, but I strongly recommend upgrading to the new
interface.

I attach a patch which should do the work

Best regards,

Bug#589172: please provide 2 packages: pyro and pyro4

2010-08-12 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
As Sylvain said, pyro4 breaks the abi and therefore this upgrade breaks any
application deployed on the system depending on pyro 3.x.

The best move imo would be to keep pyro4 in experimental, since most users are
using the official stable release (3.x branch), and reverting to pyro3 in
sid/testing.

I suggest providing 2 packages pyro and pyro4, which could at first conflict
with each other. I think upstream should be contacted, and asked to change the
namespace of pyro 4.x to pyro4 in order to ease parallel installation of both
versions.

In any case, please do not release squeeze with pyro 4.x as pyro. This will
be very painful. We really want pyro 3.9 in squeeze, as 4.x will break
external applications.

I'll be happy to help on this matter once

Bug#579349: qemu: fresh WinXP image does not start

2010-04-27 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: qemu
Version: 0.12.3+dfsg-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've created a 30GB disk image with qemu-img using qcow2 format, and I was able
to
install windows XP on that image using an ISO image (via libvirt). However when
booting again
the image I get a Disk read error from seabios, either by launching with
virsh or manually with qemu.

I'm able to boot on a Windows installation CDROM, and to access the repair
console, run chkdsk, so the disk image is there and alive. Mayby this is a
seabios issue, I'm not sure.

Additional information:

* seabios version: 0.5.1-2

* command used to launch the image:

qemu -net user -net nic -smb /tmp -m 512 -hda /opt/kvm/xp_sp3_py26.img
-usbdevice tablet -k fr -cdrom
/opt/MSDN/fr_windows_xp_professional_n_with_service_pack_3_x86_cd_x14-92440.iso

Any help welcome.

Have you tried with the version of josm distributed by upstream
(josm.openstreetmap.de)? Are other Java programs giving the same problem?=

The dowloaded josm-tested.jar behaves in the same way with openjdk and sun's
jvm.

I've installed a couple other java packages with graphical user interfaces :

* carmetal stops at startup with a NullPointerException

This is strange: such blank screen was known to appear with VMs such as
jamvm or gij, but not with the official SUN Java 6 VM. Could you please
try it with openjdk-6-jre (automatically preferred if installed), which
is the environment used for compiling the package and the one I use?

I get exactly the same symptoms with open jdk.

This sounds like a problem in a dependency package, but I'm not sure how I can
trace this down.

I've tried launching with JAVA_OPTS=-verbose:class and it looks like when I
click or type in the white window things happen, but no display. (the output
can be sent if this helps understanding the issue)

I would simply add -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true at java call to work

So there seems to be another issue (as the MOTD reading was not the fatal

I've searched my disk for rental/library.png and found
/usr/share/icons/openstreetmap/classic.small/shop/rental/library.png provided

checked the version of that package in debian stable and the file layout seems
similar enough (at least the path to rental/library.png is the same).

Bug#561493: python-unit: please provide globalSetUp method for TestCase

TestCase provides a setUp method that is called before EVERY test method.
However, it would be more usefull to have also a globalSetUp method that
will be called before running the tests, and before calling setUp for the
FIRST time. It would only be called once. The same is applicable for
  tearDown and globalTearDown.

Most of the times there are things to be done before (or after) all the
tests, but not before (or after) every test.

 Thank you.

Hi,

The python-unit package is there mostly for the graphical runner as unittest
is available in the standard library. Moreover, this is a feature request on
some upstream component. To do so please use the tracker of the project.
Please read
http://python.org/dev/patches/ and contribute the methods you need.

Additionally, I'd suggest giving a look at the various unit testing frameworks
available for Python, some of which provide what you want (see for example
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unit_testing_frameworks#Python)

Happy holidays

Bug#550174: kmail: blocks at startup because 'Communication problem with kmail , it probably crashed.'

2009-10-08 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.3.1-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I'm having a small issue with kmail but it's getting annoying.

I don't run KDE, I use gdm as a login manager, and an awesome session. When I
log on, I start kmail, and it has started to fail systematically a few weeks
ago. The following is displayed in the terminal:

a...@lacapelle:~$ kmail
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_klauncher.so
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kded4.so
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kbuildsycoca4.so
kbuildsycoca4 running...
kbuildsycoca4(18377) KBuildSycoca::checkDirTimestamps: timestamp changed:
/etc/xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu
unknown program name(18365)/: Communication problem with kmail , it
probably crashed.
Error message was: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply : Did not receive a
reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired,
or the network connection was broken.

I have to relaunch kmail to get a window. On the second launch, I get the
following messages:

a...@lacapelle:~$ kmail
a...@lacapelle:~$ kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_imap4.so
unknown program name(18502)/ kdemain: IMAP4::kdemain
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_imap4.so
unknown program name(18503)/ kdemain: IMAP4::kdemain
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_file.so
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/knotify4

A possible cause for this could be a timeout set to someting too small, which
could go unnoticed for people using KDE because they already have a number of
KDE-related processes running. Since I'm not using that environment, launching
these extra processes takes some extra time and causes the timeout to occur.

I'll be happy to help reproduce and fix this.

Thanks for your time.

Bug#546763: impossible to send SIGINT to processes in awesome

2009-09-15 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: awesome
Version: 3.3.2-1
Severity: important

Hi,

Since one week or so, I'm not able to send SIGINT to processes when running
awesome.

Simple test is:

* launch a terminal
* run ping localhost
* try ctrl-C - nothing
* try ctrl-Z,  bg  and kill -2 %1 - nothing

kill -9 %1 works

I'm reporting this one awesome because ctrl-c works fine on the text consoles
of my computer, and I've tested this with xfce4, and ctrl-c works fine there.
However, when examining /var/log/aptitude I've noticed that libcxb-* was
updated on september 7, which could match the time when things started to get
wrong. I'm not sure which libxcb component is concerned (keysyms1?), so please
reassign if the bug is in there (plus you maintain both packages, don't you).

Thanks a lot for your time and dedication to Debian,

Typical usage for -e being to catch most critical problems, having
it hiding fatal messages is quite counter-productive. It should
indeed mean only the messages of severity ERROR and above are displayed.

You're right. I've forwarded the bug upstream.

Since all the packages sharing logilab namespace have a new upstream
version to package, it's a good time to try to fix this on all of
 them.

The preinst file of logilab-astng is [1]: we already try to fix the
migration (central-support) problem but we don't remove to common
 logilab/ directory.

 [1]
 http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/python-modules/packages/logilab-astng/trunk/d
ebian/python-logilab-astng.preinst?view=markup

I'd like to know what would be the best solution for this (hence
 -python in the loop):

 - logilab-common is the lower level of logilab* packages, so we can
add conflict there with all the other logilab-* packages and then
remove logilab/ completely from its preinst
 - add extra logic to all logilab* packages to check if
/usr/lib/python*/site-packages/logilab is empty and then remove it
(could there be cases where it left hanging dirs?)

I'm considering teh second solution a bit better, but I'd like to hear
 from your what youi think.

The problem I can see with removing blindly from the postinst is that
potentially you're going to delete files belonging to other packages (e.g.
older packages installed from Logilab's Debian repositories).

Could the following work:

logilab-common postinst removes /usr/lib/python*/site-
packages/logilab/__init__.py*, and issues a warning if there are other stuff in
the directory : this will stop packages installed under that tree from working
without deleting the files themselves (enabling the administrator to find out
what's broken with that installation).

So I have a set of Python files with quite a lot of warnings which will
take qute some time to fix. So for now I'd like to have make call pylint to
report only errors and the warning W0611.

The obvious way to do so would be:

pylint -e --enable-msg=W0611 ...

But that does not work. In fact it turns our that once a warning has been
disabled through -e, --disable-msg-cat or --disable-msg, it cannot be
reenabled, no matter what order the options are in. The disable directives
 always have priority.

So as is --enable-msg is completely useless and it's not possible to enable
 a specific message.

Hi,

I upgraded awesome yesterday, and this morning my favorite window manager

does not exist (message in .xession-errors).

There is indeed no such file or directory, but there is a file called
/usr/share/awesome/themes/default/theme.lua, it turns out that the
aforementioned path is in my rc.lua file, and changing it fixes the problem.
But a notice on upgrade would have been nice.

Investigations in kdepim's bugzilla lead to:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171061

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182208

The bug has been fixed by upstream, and the fix has been backported to the 4.2
branch. The patch is available at
http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revrevision=960606

Could you consider including the patch in the Debian package without waiting
for a new upstream release?

Thanks for your time.

Bug#527473: pylint: refers to global python interpreter

2009-05-11 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Le Thursday 07 May 2009 21:28:10 Philipp Kern, vous avez écrit :
 Package: pylint

pylint refers to `/usr/bin/python' in its shebang line. It would be nice
if it could use `/usr/bin/env python' instead, to run under the Python
interpreter the user wants. Use case: if you have a private instance
created with python-virtualenv you really don't want to run the global
interpreter but the one in your path to find all the libraries in use.

The prefered way to do this at Logilab is using

/explicit/path/to/mypython /usr/bin/pylint arguments

after having set the PYTHONPATH appropriately if required. This is done for
example to test a module against python2.4.

Great. My packages are very old, haven't tried the newest version yet,
but you're welcome to them. Hmm, they're living on a machine which is
not currently on the net... Will get everything to you ASAP.

Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately, Aster requires MUMPS, and my MUMPS packages are held up
by bugs 491105 and 491028 in blacs and scalapack.

I'll give these a look tomorrow

 I could just restrict
it to MPICH and LAM, but would rather have an OpenMPI version, or one
using mpi-default-(dev|bin), as neither MPICH(1) nor LAM is currently
 maintained by upstream.

Would packaging mpich2 in Debian help ?

Thank you, that's fine with me.

Are you in the pkg-scicomp Alioth group? If so, feel free to change the
maintainer to Debian Scientific Computing Team (I think that's the full
name), and add me and you as uploaders, so it is not an NMU. This would
also close the RFA wnpp bug.

Not sure if I'm in, but it certainly won't hurt to ask for inclusion. I'll do
that today.

Cheers,

Bug#512426: libmpich-shmem1.0-dev: update-alternatives for mpich-shmem sets up wrong links

2009-01-20 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: libmpich-shmem1.0-dev
Version: 1.2.7-8
Severity: important

I have both the mpd and the shmem dev packages for mpich installed.

However after configuring the alternatives for the mpi link to use the shmem
version, it won't compile nore link because /usr/lib/libmpi.so is a broken link:

$ ls -l /usr/lib/libmpi.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2009-01-15 16:03 /usr/lib/libmpi.so -
/etc/alternatives/libmpi.so
$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/libmpi.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 2009-01-20 19:26 /etc/alternatives/libmpi.so -
/usr/lib/mpich-shmem/lib/shared/libmpich.so
$ ls -l  /usr/lib/mpich-shmem/lib/shared/libmpich.so
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/mpich-shmem/lib/shared/libmpich.so: No such file or
directory

It should point (I think) to libmpich-shmem.so

Thanks for your time and involvement in Debian

Bug#478460: scientific-python-2.7.x supports numpy

2008-07-22 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Hi,

I've discussed this issue with Konrad Hinsen recently, and it appears
that ScientificPython 2.7.x (currently 2.7.8) supports numpy, and is
stable (although tagged a developpement release by upstream). I've used
that release on a project recently and it works very well (especially
the netcdf bindings with numpy).

Updating the package would solve this issue and possibly a number of
other pending bugs.

Thanks for your time and dedication to Debian.

Bug#485458: gnupg: crashes with Ohhhh jeeeee: ... this is a bug

2008-06-09 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.9-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have an program at work which is used to automate some tasks related
to debian package management (automating some checks and uploading
packages to a local repository). To avoid permission issues, the
executable is setuid to a user which is the owner of the repositories :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/ldi
-rwsr-sr-x 1 debinstall debinstall 4448 fév 6 11:02 /usr/bin/ldi

It worked fine until recently, when the signature checks ran by the
programm started failing with a very weird error message:

gpg: O j: ... this is a bug (../../g10/gpg.c:2052:main)
secmem usage: 0/0 bytes in 0/0 blocks of pool 0/32768

This thread
(http://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-users/2006-August/029097.html)
suggests that the setuid bit is reponsible for the crash. However the
program has been working correctly since february (the machine is
running unstable but is not upgraded very often).

I think the change introduced in 1.4.6-2.2 broke this behaviour (Do not install
gpg setuid root, this is not necessary anymore since Linux kernel
2.6.9. (Closes: #356550, #346597, #453122)) ? If I chmod u+s
/usr/bin/gpg, my ldi command works fine again.

Bug#438438: please really support python2.5

I believe that this bug is not fixed in the latest version of pylint.

 See for example:

 E:5:some_function: Undefined variable 'all'

The problem is easy to work around though. The file /usr/bin/pylint
 looks like this:

 $ cat /usr/bin/pylint
 #!/usr/bin/python
 import sys
 from pylint import lint
 lint.Run(sys.argv[1:])
 $

In order to support multiple python versions I suggest adding programs
/usr/bin/pylint2.5 and so forth having the interpreter version in the #!
line. I verified that this works for my system.

Please launch python2.5 /usr/bin/pylint if you want to check code with a
version of python different from the default one.

I don't want to use python2.5 in the shebang stanza by default, as I
feel it is useful to be able to be able to check code for the standard
python version by default.

Bug#306459: pymacs: examples from the documentation don't work

2008-02-11 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Hi,

After a long time, pymacs is coming back to life thanks to François
Pinard who has started reviving the project. I've discussed this issue
with him, and here's his answer (translation by yours truely):

The user has tried to load the module using
M-x pymacs-load RET re RET RET

This loads the module on the Emacs list side (and of course in
Python), but the variables to access the module are only available in
 Lisp.

To create the re identifier on the Python side, you need to write
M-x pymacs-exec RET import re RET

and in that case the identifier is only available in Python and not in
Lisp. Using this incantation solves the problem.

Additionally the documentation will be clarified in the upcoming 0.23
release of pymacs.

I'll close the bug report when that version is uploaded.

The url is incorrect, and there is no terminal running on a serial port example
in CVS.

I suggest the following text:

Examples

Please look in the CVS Repository. There is an example directory where you
can find an example module piloting an LCD display through the parallel port
http://pyserial.cvs.sourceforge.net/pyserial/pyparallel/examples/

Bug#443798: itop: strange display on a multi cpu AMD64

2007-09-24 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: itop
Version: 0.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've installed itop on my personal computer (single core intel) and on a
server at work (multi core amd64) and while the first installation works
fine, the second does not display interupts names, and the counts are
always 0 despite heavy IO and network load.

Here is an example output of itop on that machine (after pressing the
'a' key:

Please disable the logic build. It needs more than 1GiB ram (+.5GiB
swap) which the others builds fine with only 512MiB.

This sounds reasonable, especially since upstream is probably going to
deprecate the logic object space.

Bug#440277: photon: possible incompatibility with gimp Release candidate currently in unstable ?

debugging output suggests that gimp crashed:

I've been using photon for a while now without problems. I think gimp

not sure if it's a gimp problem or a photon problem though.

nspluginwrapper works across XDMCP - whilst I haven't tried it on a remote X
server, I have used Iceweasel across a network connection and
 nspluginwrapper worked just fine.

Looking at the error, there is something odd. Is aries.logilab.fr the server
 or the client?

I'm always confused with X terminology. The application is running on
crater and is displayed on aries (which is running the X server)

So the architecture settings are wrong, fix them.

I thought I had done that in debian/control, but it looks like
dpkg-source -b lost the information when generating the .dsc file. Is it
ok to manually change that file and upload again, or am I missing
something obvious ?

Bug#428540: python-deb822: support for Release files

2007-06-12 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: python-deb822
Version: 0.2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

I'm using python-deb822 and I would have liked to get support for
Release files as well in the package. The code I cooked for my need is
the following:

import deb822
class Release(deb822._multivalued):
_multivalued_fields = {
MD5Sum: [ md5sum, size, name ],
SHA1: [ md5sum, size, name ],
SHA256: [ md5sum, size, name ],
 }

Having support for this kind of file directly in the package would be a
nice addition I think.

Thanks for your time.
