You are right, my bad!

2. elpa-org is installed with emacs in old-stable.  Upgrade emacs to the

producing the same error.  Produces the error as reported.

Are you certain elpa-org is upgraded to the version in bullseye?
(i.e. 9.4.0+dfsg-1)? I ask because that's not what your original report
said, and there is also some confusion above about what the version in
stable is.

Yes, my apologies!   I was in a case where I wanted to upgrade only
emacs to get the fix for another bug.  And elpa-org was not upgraded in
the process.

Maybe a dependency constraint should prevent elpa-org in 9.1.14+dfsg-3
with emacs-27.

I agree that this will probaly rarely occur.

I let you decide if a fix is needed.  Feel free to close the bug
accordingly.

Bug#992346: elpa-org: install script from elpa-org package failed

2021-08-20 Thread Damien Couroussé

Hi David,

On 19/08/2021 20:31, David Bremner wrote:

I did another test in a schroot.  Here, the error was triggered by the
upgrade of the package 'emacs' from 1:26.1+1-3.2+deb10u2 to
1:27.1+1-3.1, with the package 'elpa-org' already installed.

I believe the issue is related to this package and not to the package
emacs, since the error only appears if the package 'elpa-org' is
installed, or going to be installed.

Are you doing an upgrade to bullseye / stable? Because that version of
emacs is not in oldstable, which is (roughly) what your bug report said.

Yes, the error appeared the first time when upgrading emacs to version 27.

There was some possibly related discussion about running emacs 27 in
buster on the backports list, you could check there.

The error appeared in two situations:

1. emacs 27 (currently in stable/bullseye) is already installed. Install
elpa-org (from stable as well, i.e. version 9.1.14+dfsg-3). Produces the
error as reported.
2. elpa-org is installed with emacs in old-stable.  Upgrade emacs to the
version in stable / bullseye.  The package elpa-org is upgraded as well,
producing the same error.  Produces the error as reported.

The issue did not occur with previous versions of elpa-org.

I found one discussion probably related to this bug report --
https://lists.debian.org/debian-backports/2021/02/msg00016.html
IIUC, the issue may be due to the fact that emacs-27 is now packaged
with org-mode, which I didn't know.

I am not sure if this is the culprit, but it looks like emacs-27 and
elpa-org provide possibly conflicting package files:

I'm not sure what elpa-org is - is it the debian package for
installing Org using Org ELPA?

I was referring to the Debian package named 'elpa-org'.
This error was triggered by the install of the package.  More info in
the output of the apt command, reproduced in the initial bug report.

I'm not familiar enough with the emacs packaging system to understand
what is the root cause of this error.

I did another test in a schroot.  Here, the error was triggered by the

I believe the issue is related to this package and not to the package
emacs, since the error only appears if the package 'elpa-org' is
installed, or going to be installed.

As a standard user, this is not the behavior that I would expect from
the package manager. I can usually safely mix packages from stable,
testing and more thanks to a proper apt pinning configuration, and the
package manager tells me if I can upgrade a package e.g. from testing
without wrecking havoc my system. But I understand your point of view
and the solution chosen.

Thank you for your feedback!

I experience the same problem, with a similar setup -- albeit minor differences.
The problem appears for a lot of applications run from the terminal, e.g. gitk.

Following https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=235643, I suspect that
there is a dependency mismatch in fontconfig packages:

Bug#763057: git-annex: internal server error when creating a new repo with assistant

2014-09-27 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: git-annex
Version: 5.20140926

Bug#678884: (no subject)

2013-08-10 Thread Damien Couroussé
hello,

I agree that when the user interrupts the backup with ctrl-c, obnam
should terminate cleanly; I mean, without leaving locks.

However, checkpointing takes a lot of time on slow systems and/or with
low network bandwidth (several minutes).
I would prefer just interrupting the backup and removing locks before
leaving.
To minimise the amount of data lost in the case of interrupted backup,
it is possible to configure the checkpoints to be done more often.

regards,
Damien

Bug#697369: Acknowledgement (ImportError: No module named duplicity)

2013-01-04 Thread Damien Couroussé
Hello,

Actually, deja-dup could not launch because python2.6 was still installed
on my system and set as the default version of python.
Removing python2.6 or setting python2.7 as default (update-alternatives)
now allows to run correctly deja-dup.

Maybe it should be made explicit that deja-dup runs python = 2.7 ?

Damien

Hello,

zim crashes at startup. I suspect a missing dependency of this release
version to python-gobject-2, or to a more recent version of
python-gobject which comes with python-gobject-2. I have also found this bug in
the previous
release 0.57.

Here is the trace :

I am on a stable-based installation with python2.6. The same problem
appears with python2.7. The problem does not appear in a chroot, where a

comes python-gobect-2, which is not present on my original setup.

Bug#579709:

2012-08-22 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: evince
Version: 2.32.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I do also experience this bug.
But pdfcube also has the same displaying problems for me. xpdf handles
correctly this document.

Furthermore, I have noticed that this problem happens in documents that
include no name fonts.
For example for this document :

pdffonts CoplanarPts.pdf
name type emb sub uni object ID
 - --- --- --- -
[none] Type 3yes no no 4 0
Times-BoldItalic Type 1no no no 252 0
Times-Bold Type 1no no no 248 0
Times-Roman Type 1no no no 245 0
Times-Italic Type 1no no no 241 0

Symbol Type 1no no no 459 0
[none] Type 3yes no no 489 0
Courier Type 1no no no 662 0

I can reproduce the bug and the reported behaviour for pdfcube and xpdf with
other similar documents, e.g. :
http://www.capricorn.org/~akira/home/lockpick/mitlg-a4.pdf
found here :
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org/msg1037414.html

[none] Type 3yes no no 272 0

Hope it helps

thanks,
Damien

Bug#680946: okular: fails to start, symbol lookup error

2012-07-09 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: okular
Version: 4:4.4.5-2
Severity: important

Hello,

I have just installed okular on a stable/testing mixed system. At least
one symbol is not defined and makes okular crash.
BTW, I am not running KDE. Hence I guess my system has the very minimum
kde libraries installed in order to run okular.

An example:

$ okular
okular: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/kde4/okularpart.so: undefined symbol:

Ok, the dependencies should be enough (and will be fixed so
frankenstein like yours won't happen anymore), but why not upgrade
all the okular packages together, and not keep them up-to-date with
 testing?

Please stay polite.
Yes, my setup is not updated every day ; I run an update every one or
two months.
However, even with an out-of-date setup, I guess I should not
experience this bug. Should I ?

Bug#678622: obnam: Please add a [FILE] parameter to the 'ls' command

2012-06-28 Thread Damien Couroussé
patch
thanks

This small patch adds an optional option [FILE] to the ls command.
It does not modify the way the ls command is already working: it should
still be possible to give None, one or several generation arguments.

ls command summary would become:
obnam [options] ls [GENERATION]... [FILE]

Damien

Bug#678622: obnam: Please add a [FILE] parameter to the 'ls' command

2012-06-23 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: obnam
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

First of all, thanks for this nice tool!

Is it possible to add a [FILE] parameter to the 'ls' command, in
order to list a partial view of a generation ? For example by doing :
$ obnam ls generation backup

By example :
$ obnam ls 6008 /home/damien/Desktop
while the whole /home/damien directory is backuped.

There are workarounds for this, for example by filtering the output of
the ls command using a grep.

regards,
Damien

Bug#675818: UnboundLocalError: local variable 'new_node' referenced before assignment

2012-06-03 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: python-larch
Version: 0.31-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I suspect a problem of indentation in fsck.py at line 107:

File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/larch/fsck.py, line 107, in do
tracing.trace('fixed it: %s' % new_node.keys())
UnboundLocalError: local variable 'new_node' referenced before assignment

Adding one more indentation level would avoid this error, as the
variable new_node does not seem to be used elsewhere in this package.

regards,
Damien

Bug#675820: ERROR: Larch B-tree is in read-only mode, no changes allowed

2012-06-03 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: obnam
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

obnam is not able to fsck-fix my backup repo. The error reported is:
ERROR: Larch B-tree is in read-only mode, no changes allowed
The fsck-errors were artificially created by aborting several times a backup.

This may be the normal behaviour, but it does not seem clear to me why this
occurs.

The fsck command reports unused chunks, I rerun fsck in fix mode
immediately after and get this error:

Bug#675822: obnam: fsck does not release the lock when going into error

2012-06-03 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: obnam
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

obnam does not release the repository lock when an error is raised.
From the error message I assume the error is correctly treated in obnam
(i.e. the error is correctly catched, and obnam does not crash
abruptly).

$ obnam --lock-timeout=3 -r  /home/damien/tmp/disk fsck --fsck-fix
ERROR: Larch B-tree is in read-only mode, no changes allowed
damien@marchand:~/tmp/disk$ obnam --lock-timeout=3 -r /home/damien/tmp/disk
fsck
ERROR: Lock timeout

== here there is no reason why the repo is still locked; I am the only
user accessing to this repo. After fsck has met the first error, I
assume it should release the repository lock.

best regards,
Damien

Bug#675825: obnam: client not found, but cannot remove lock

2012-06-03 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: obnam
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

During the initialization of the first backup, the creation of the
metadata on the repository side might take a few time; I assume that
this happens especially when gpg encryption is used.

If the backup is interrupted at this time, it is then no longer possible
to remove the lock on the repository.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. create a new backup
$ obnam --lock-timeout=3 -r sftp://damien@server/home/damien/ttt backup /data

2. abort the backup before it has started sending some backup data

3. restart the backup - you get a lock timeout

4. cannot force the lock:

$ obnam --lock-timeout=3 -r sftp://damien@server/home/damien/ttt backup /data
ERROR: Lock timeout

This problem is easy to solve by erasing the contents of the directory
that will receive the repository files on the server side.
I don't know if a fix is really necessary, maybe a simple warning in obnam
documentation would be enough.

regards,
Damien

Bug#675140: obnam: cannot merge several exclude options in a config file

2012-05-30 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: obnam
Version: 0.29-1
Severity: normal

Hello!

In a config file, I cannot use several occurrences of the 'exclude'
parameter.

For example, I would like to be able to do this in my config file :

--- obnam.cfg ---
# exclude some temp files
exclude = temp

# exclude other files
exclude = another_temp
-

But doing this, --dump-config only shows the last exclude parameter
specified. A workaround is to give all the exclude patterns on the same
exlude line, but it makes the config file more difficult to document.

Furthermore, if an 'exclude' parameter is used in the command line, it
erases the exclude parameters given in a config file.

e.g.

$ obnam --config=obnam.cfg --exclude=perso --exclude=fichier backup
~/Desktop/temp

Damien

Note that exclude in Obnam is a Perl-compatible regular expression
(full power of the re module's pattern matching language). Your examples
don't do what you expect them to do. It's possible to use the look-ahead
operators in the regular expression syntax to do what you want, though.
Note that rsync's full mechanism for filtering what gets transferred is
quite powerful, and also quite complicated.

Just for the sake of documenting this issue:
My previous example was maybe not clear before.
In rsync I can an include file and an exlude file similar to this:
= config.exlude
# repositories to exclude from backup
.local
no_backup
damien/temp

# do not backup local configuration files
/home/damien/.*

# etc etc. ...

 config.include
# ... do not backup local config files except these ones
/home/damien/.bash*
/home/damien/.profile*
/home/damien/.git*
/home/damien/.tikz*
/home/damien/.reportbug*

# etc etc. ...

All this demonstrates that adding a really powerful and versatile
mechanism for picking out what is to be backed up is inherently dangerous,
and as such will cause people grief when they are setting up their
backups. It's better to have people back up a bit too much than to
make it easy for them accidentally back up even a little bit too little.

Thus I'm not going to implement this. If someone can come up with a
clean way of doing it, and provides a good patch, I am willing to include
that in Obnam, however. (In that case, please discuss it in the upstream
bug tracker or the upstream mailing list, thanks.)

I understand your point.
At the same time using one-liners of Perl regexes can be quite obfuscating.
This is why I would vote for a multi-liner configuration of the
include/exclude patterns.

I do also assume that there is a limitation for doing this from Python
cliapp.

Sorry. I don't mean to be negative about all your suggestions.

 It's OK.

And thanks for this tool ! It looks nice and I am strongly considering it
as a very good alternative for crypted backups on an external server.

Damien

with enignmail.
I use icedove 8.0.

Bug#606685: evince segfaults in ppdFindChoice () from /usr/lib/libcups.so.2

Hello, evince segfaults when trying to print PDF files on a network
printer.
It looks to be related to this bug report on Ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/660731

Printing a PDF file with a KDE application works fine.
Printing (not a PDF file) with another gnome application works fine
also.

Thanks for your report.

Are you sure only cups and its libraries were upgraded when you
attempted to install cups from squeeze?

The other possible culprit would be GTK+, which has seen a number of
network-printing-related bug fixes in the meantime.

Cheers,

Hi,

Yes, while debugging a bit this problem, I have seen that the segfault
in libcups comes from a call in libgtk.

However, only cups and the associated libs were upgraded for my concern:
I asked for an upgrade of libcups2 from lenny to squeeze (I am mostly
based on lenny but use a few packages from squeeze and/or lenny-backports).

Bug#571660: /usr/bin/apt-get: could not lock /var.../lib/apt/lists/volatile... (Impossible de verrouiller /var...)

2010-02-26 Thread Damien Couroussé
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.25.3
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/apt-get

Hello,

apt-get source reports an error while trying to acquire locks under
/var/lib/apt/lists

 - apt-get is run without root superuser power,
 - non other apt/aptitude processes are running at the same time,
 - except for downloading source packages from time to time, I do not
use apt (I assume this is the reason why the lock files where not
available); I use aptitude for system maintenance and installation of
   new packages.
 - the problem was solved by manually creating the required files as a root
user.

Here is below a more detailed report of the activity where the error
occurred and how it was fixed.

Cheers
Damien
