Bug#670216: mathematica-fonts: Should remove Bitstream Vera after downloading
Package: mathematica-fonts Version: 13 Severity: normal The downloaded Mathematica fonts archive contains also Bitstream Vera font and it ends installed when you install mathematica-fonts package. There are however at least two reasons to for this font to be skipped by the postinst script: 1. Bitstream Vera already is present as package in Debian and it's absence in the system usually means there was a reason not to install it. Another package may suggest or recommend it if needed, but must never globally install own copy. 2. Many programs that work fine when Bitstream Vera is either absent or substituted fail to show non-latin characters when it is present. Because of this i think the postinst script must be changed to delete ./Fonts/TTF/Vera*.ttf before moving ./Fonts/TTF/*.ttf -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-686-pae (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=bg_BG.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=bg_BG.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages mathematica-fonts depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.42 ii unzip 6.0-6 mathematica-fonts recommends no packages. mathematica-fonts suggests no packages. -- debconf-show failed -- Димитър Кавлаков Крипт Лоджик ООД тел/факс: ++359 2 4399988 Електронна поща: i...@crypt-logic.net Търсете ни на: http://www.crypt-logic.net signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Bug#590145: chromium-browser: Upstream ban on gecko-mediaplayer plugin must be removed
Package: chromium-browser Version: 5.0.375.99~r51029-4 Severity: normal The plugin gecko-mediaplayer was blacklisted in the upstream some time ago because of bug #24507, that is speciffic to several other Linux distributions. Debian was never amongst the distributions where this bug appeared and gecko-mediaplayer is currently the only plugin of this kind that is usable, supported and reliable. Because of this the blacklisting can and must be removed from Debian port. I am using this plugin constantly and since the ban was forced to manually edit both chrome and chromium binaries after each upgrade on each computer. Fortunately this also means i can assure that the plugin continues to work fine on Debian with all stable and development versions of Chromium and Chrome released since it was blacklisted. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-2-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=bg_BG.CP1251, LC_CTYPE=bg_BG.CP1251 (charmap=CP1251) (ignored: LC_ALL set to bg_BG.CP1251) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages chromium-browser depends on: ii chromium-browser-ins 5.0.375.99~r51029-4 page inspector for the chromium-br ii libasound2 1.0.23-1shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libatk1.0-0 1.30.0-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-4 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc62.11.2-2Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo21.9.8-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.24-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.86-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libevent-1.4-2 1.4.13-stable-1 An asynchronous event notification ii libexpat12.0.1-7 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-2.1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.4.0-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.4-7 GCC support library ii libgconf2-4 2.28.1-3GNOME configuration database syste ii libgl1-mesa-glx [lib 7.8.1-2 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglewmx1.5 1.5.4-1 The OpenGL Extension Wrangler - ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.1-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libicu44 4.4.1-5 International Components for Unico ii libjpeg626b1-1 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libnspr4-0d 4.8.4-2 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libnss3-1d 3.12.6-3Network Security Service libraries ii libpango1.0-01.28.1-1Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.44-1PNG library - runtime ii libprotobuf6 2.3.0-2.1 protocol buffers C++ library ii libstdc++6 4.4.4-7 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libv8-2.2.18 2.2.18-1V8 JavaScript Engine ii libvpx0 0.9.1-1 VP8 video codec (shared library) ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-3 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.1.2-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxml2 2.7.7.dfsg-4GNOME XML library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.6-1 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxslt1.1 1.1.26-5XSLT 1.0 processing library - runt ii libxss1 1:1.2.0-2 X11 Screen Saver extension library ii xdg-utils1.0.2+cvs20100307-1 desktop integration utilities from ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3compression library - runtime chromium-browser recommends no packages. Bug#501528: rox-filer: Misinterpretation of the Inherits index.theme parameter results in showing icons from wrong theme.
Package: rox-filer Version: 2.8-1 Severity: normal The bug appears when icon theme that has Inherits parameter in it's index.theme has been chosen. Instead of checking each possible name in the selected theme before failing back to the themes, listed in the Inherits line rox searches each possible name in all inherited themes before starting to check for the next name. Because of this sometimes icons from another theme are displayed, even if the selected theme has icons for the same filetype. An easy way to reproduce the bug is to install Tango and XFCE icon themes, then set rox to use Rodent icons (XFCE theme). For numerous filetypes, including folders, icons from Tango theme are displayed instead of XFCE ones. Commenting the Inherits line in /usr/share/icons/Rodent/index.theme allows to see icons from the selected theme in rox but icons from Tango are not available as fail-back anymore. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1000, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-plastic.nb Locale: LANG=bg_BG.CP1251, LC_CTYPE=bg_BG.CP1251 (charmap=CP1251) (ignored: LC_ALL set to bg_BG.CP1251) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages rox-filer depends on: ii libatk1.0-01.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.7-13GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.6.4-6 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libglade2-01:2.6.2-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.18.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-02.12.11-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice62:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpango1.0-0 1.20.5-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Session Management library ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxml22.6.32.dfsg-4 GNOME XML library ii shared-mime-info 0.30-2FreeDesktop.org shared MIME databa Versions of packages rox-filer recommends: ii zeroinstall-injector 0.36-1 run programs by URL Versions of packages rox-filer suggests: ii file 4.26-1 Determines file type using magic ii menu 2.1.40 generates programs menu for all me -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: filezilla Version: 3.0.11.1-1 Severity: important The program silently saves as plain text in it's preferences folder all used passwords including even ssh ones. Bug#469959: closed by Ove Kaaven [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Re: Bug#469959: wine: Uses latin only fonts as substitution for the hardcoded tahoma.)
Indeed there are files called tahoma.ttf and tahomabd.ttf, installed in /usr/share/wine/fonts by winelib package. Unfortunately this is not the Microsoft Tahoma font (which WINE was designed for), because Tahoma's EULA does not allow it to be distributed this way. Instead, copy of the free, but latin only Bitstream Vera Sans font was edited to mimic as Tahoma (and most likely to also provide matching metrics as you say). The bug i reported _does_ exist. It appears exactly because the font, edited to carry the name Tahoma in libwine is covering only latin characters, while WINE itself is hardcoded to use it to display localised messages in many languages that use nonlatin alphabets. When locale settings specify such language, WINE behaves exactly as i described: Another, seemingly random font is chosen as substitution and used in all widgets that are hardcoded to use Tahoma. The choice varies from installation to installation, but is usually either another latin only font or in some situations one that lacks even latin characters. Downloading manually the original Tahoma from Microsoft and placing it in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts can solve the problem, but in most cases is not possible because of the licensing issues. Right now i use copy of Dejavu Sans (based on the same Bitstream Vera Sans, on which libwine's Tahoma is based), edited to mimic as Tahoma and placed in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts. It's metrics may not be perfect (as with substitution fonts that WINE choses by the way), but at least it works with localised WINE better than current Tahoma - it is possible to actually read the text. With more information on the other changes, that must be made to Dejavu Sans to make it suitable for use with WINE i may be able to futer edit it and provide more suitable replacement Tahoma than the currently used one. Because the bug _does_ exist it is appropriate to reopen it, until WINE provides either suitable font, or at least documented way to force suitable substitution. Of cause you can also claim, that WINE was never intended to be localized or used in countries with non latin alphabet and leave the bug closed. Almost allays such font lacks nonlatin characters, needed to display localized messages and dialogs, and sometimes it lacks even latin characters (in one case font with music symbols was chosen for example). To avoid any need to use non free font, most suitable solution will be to replace the hardcoded Tahoma with a free font, choosing one that covers as many sets of characters as possible. Same is whenEscreen theme is used in Eterm (multitab terminal behaviour emulation, using screen session). Right now i have no other X terminals to test. Bug#358120: kwalletmanager: Password prompt pops up on top of other windows but is not focused.
Package: kwalletmanager Version: 4:3.5.1-2 Severity: important The popup window that asks for wallet password apears on top of other windows, but is not focused. This way it fools you to type your password and press enter, but actualy you type in the window that was actine when the popup apeared (For me in one case this was GAIM chat window and my wallet password was send as Jabber message). While the bug itself is minor it can lead to critical security violation and can be exploited by malcious software, so i rated it as important. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (1002, 'unstable'), (1001, 'testing'), (900, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i586) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-plastic.586 Locale: LANG=bg_BG.CP1251, LC_CTYPE=bg_BG.CP1251 (charmap=CP1251) (ignored: LC_ALL set to bg_BG.CP1251) Versions of packages kwalletmanager depends on: ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.1-4core libraries for all KDE applica ii libc6 2.3.6-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:4.1.0-0GCC support library ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.5-4+b1 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++6 4.1.0-0 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 kwalletmanager recommends no packages. -- no debconf information --- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#315730: capplets: gnome-theme-manager fails to start when metacity is not instaled
Package: capplets Version: 1:2.10.1-3 Severity: important When Metacity is not installed with an errormessage, that either there is gconf error or no metacity. However capplets package does not deppend on metacity. Please if possible remove the metacity limitation instead of adding dependency. For people that use other window manager with gnome-session such dependency will just waste additional 9MB. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (1001, 'unstable'), (1000, 'experimental'), (500, 'hoary') Architecture: i386 (i586) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-plastic.ws-586 Locale: LANG=bg_BG.CP1251, LC_CTYPE=bg_BG.CP1251 (charmap=CP1251) (ignored: LC_ALL set to bg_BG.CP1251) Versions of packages capplets depends on: ii capplets-data1:2.10.1-3 configuration applets for GNOME 2 ii desktop-file-utils 0.10-1 Utilities for .desktop files ii gnome-control-center 1:2.10.1-3 The GNOME Control Center for GNOME ii gnome-desktop-data 2.10.1-2Common files for GNOME 2 desktop a ii gnome-icon-theme 2.10.1-2GNOME Desktop icon theme ii gnome-panel 2.10.1-4launcher and docking facility for ii gnome-session2.10.0-4The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.10.1-2The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile00.2.6-6 Open-source version of SGI's audio ii libbonobo2-0 2.8.1-2 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.8.1-2 The Bonobo UI library ii libc62.3.5-1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libesd-alsa0 [libesd0] 0.2.35-2.1 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.1.10-1FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.10.0-2GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt11 1.2.0-11.1 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-0 1:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.6.5-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.10.1-2Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-keyring00.4.2-1 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome-menu0 2.10.1-3an implementation of the freedeskt ii libgnome2-0 2.10.0-3The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-02.10.2-2A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.10.0-2The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.10.1-5The GNOME virtual file-system libr ii libgnutls11 1.0.16-13.1 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libgpg-error01.0-1 library for common error values an ii libgstreamer-plugins0.8-00.8.8-3 Various GStreamer libraries and li ii libgstreamer0.8-00.8.10-1Core GStreamer libraries, plugins, ii libgtk2.0-0 2.6.8-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 6.8.2-9 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg626b-10 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libmetacity0 1:2.10.1-2 Common library of lightweight GTK2 ii liborbit21:2.12.2-1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-01.8.1-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.7-5 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 6.8.2-9 X Window System Session Management ii libstartup-notification0 0.8-1 library for program launch feedbac ii libtasn1-2 0.2.10-4Manage ASN.1 structures (runtime) ii libx11-6 6.8.2-9 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 6.8.2-9 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxft2 2.1.7-1 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxklavier102.0-0.2 X Keyboard Extension high-level AP ii libxml2 2.6.16-7GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 6.8.2-9 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs6.8.2-9 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime capplets recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
