Bug#982842: open-iscsi: do not use iscsistart in the boot process
I have a merge request to open-iscsi that would add iscsid/iscsiadm capability to initrd: https://salsa.debian.org/linux-blocks-team/open-iscsi/-/merge_requests/14 The default behavior is unaffected, so users would explicitly enable this feature if they want it. Using an iscsi root in initrd is of significant importance in cloud computing, and ensuring robust and reliable boot capability while using iscsi is best done with iscsid/iscsiadm and not iscsistart.
Bug#1021742: open-iscsi: Ingest upstream 2.1.8
I made a merge request to ingest 2.1.8: https://salsa.debian.org/linux-blocks-team/open-iscsi/-/merge_requests/12 I obviously don't have permissions to push a pristine tar of 2.1.8 so it likely won't build in any Salsa pipelines. I did build it locally on my Debian 11 box with a clean git checkout. As I mentioned in the merge request, I don't have a preference on whether my merge request is accepted or another is made by the package maintainers. Hoping to submit some patches in the near future to the Debian package that rely on code added in 2.1.8
Bug#1021742: open-iscsi: Ingest upstream 2.1.8
Package: open-iscsi Severity: wishlist Please ingest open-iscsi upstream release 2.1.8. It adds support for (among other things) running iscsid in initramfs more easily, which could lead toward closing bug #982842. Hoping this could be included in Bookworm and ideally Bullseye. -- System Information: Debian Release: 11.5 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-18-amd64 (SMP w/16 CPU threads) Locale: LANG=C.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled
