Bug#1061183: lvm2 needs dm_integrity by default

2024-01-20 Thread Francisco Pena
Package: lvm2
Version: 2.03.16-2
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: francisco.pc7...@gmail.com

Hello,
I just noticed that when rebooting lvs with raidintegrity don't turn on by
default. Needing manual intervention with `vgchange -ay`, because the module
`dm_integrity` isn't loaded by default and `vchange -ay` loads it and the
systemd service doesn't. The other linux distros seem to load it by default and
I was curious if there is a motivation for that or that could be a valid
improvement.

Bug#1058742: transition: libcotp

2023-12-15 Thread Francisco Vilmar Cardoso Ruviaro
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

Dear Release Team,

I would like to update libcotp in unstable to the 3.0.0-1.

I would like to request a transition slot for libcotp, changing the
library name from libcotp2 to libcotp3. The version 3.0.0
introducing the ABI change has been in experimental since 2023-12-14.

I have successfully rebuilt the reversed dependencies on amd64.

$ reverse-depends -b src:libcotp
Reverse-Build-Depends
* otpclient (for libcotp-dev)

There is already a tracker available here:

https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-libcotp.html

Thanks!

Bug#1053122: linux-image-6.5.0-1-amd64: using smp_processor_id() in preemptible

2023-10-15 Thread Gabriel Francisco
Just an update on this bug.

I found this link: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2877
where other people are facing the same issue as me and I can confirm that
disabling FreeSync on my monitor settings makes the freezes/hangs to
disappear.

Thanks for the explanation! (now I know how to detect bit flips) :D

> The first BUG message should be more meaningful that what comes after.

Yes, I should have reported the first one indeed, I thought too much and
ended reporting the second one. Sorry about that.

> This could be due to a kernel bug, but is more likely a hardware

Even with XMP(3000@1.35v) enabled (F4-3000C16-16GISB), memtest86+ ran for 3
hours and printed PASS in the screen.
I removed the XMP profile from my memories and ordered new rams to check if
my current ones are faulty (or not).

The message in dmesg was only one occasion. (but I reported it anyways)

The hang does still happens with/without XMP when running 6.5.x kernel
series. It happens when maximizing a video (or time-to-time when my cursor
enters the video area) when using kernel 6.5.x. It does not happen with
kernel 6.1.x series.

I'm using amgpu module.

Dear FTP Masters,
Please, remove the libbaseencode from unstable because it has been
deprecated since libcotp 2.0.0, as the upstream reported:

"In particular, libbaseencode has been merged with libcotp,
so now users can call base32 functions by just including cotp.h"
https://github.com/paolostivanin/libcotp/releases/tag/v2.0.0

Description : Make your PDF files text-searchable (A GUI for OCRmyPDF)

This is a basic user interface for the command line tool OCRmyPDF.
It's main purpose is to provide users that are not used to command
line tools easy access to OCRmyPDF's basic features.
You can use it to make PDF files that contain images with text
  (e. g. after scanning) searchable by adding an invisible text layer.
If you like the results created with OCRthyPDF but need more flexibility
I suggest you give OCRmyPDF a try on the command line.

I believe this was an upstream decision, please check it out:

Hi,

Thanks for the help guys!

libcotp has been upgraded to 1.2.8-1 (see https://bugs.debian.org/1028305).

otpclient has been upgraded to 3.1.3-1, we will use libbaseencode version
1.0.15-1 with libcotp 1.2.8-1 while the transition from libcotp 1.2.8-1
to 2.0.0-1 doesn't happen (see https://bugs.debian.org/1028528).

Thanks!

Dear Release Team,

I would like to update libcotp in unstable to the 2.0.0-1.

I would like to request a transition slot for libcotp, changing the
library name from libcotp12 to libcotp2. The version 2.0.0
introducing the ABI change has been in experimental since 2023-01-10.

I have successfully rebuilt the reversed dependencies on amd64.

$ reverse-depends -b src:libcotp

* otpclient (for libcotp-dev)

There is already a tracker available here:

https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-libcotp.html

Bug#1023076: linux-headers-6.0.0-2-amd64: bluetooth crashes after returning from suspend

2022-11-01 Thread Gabriel Francisco

Hi Diederik, thank for your quick response!

I installed 6.0.5-1 and during the past few days seems to be working okay.

There is only occasional messages "Bluetooth: hci0: Opcode 0x 402
failed: -16" that appeared after installing the firmware-linux package
from unstable, but I'm not sure if that is the cause. Bluetooth is
working okay so far, I will keep testing and report in case I find issues.

Thanks again and have a good week,

With this kernel seems to crash bluetooth when returning from
suspend. Few days ago my cursor froze, the computer rebooted and I
couldn't find logs in /var/log/syslog.

I think it might be related to #1021905.

Indeed many similarities, but not exactly the same ...

[24595.999793] ? bt_sock_wait_ready+0x128/0x1a0 [bluetooth]

These things are different. I increased severity because of GPF.

Before we look further, can you test 6.0.5-1 available in Unstable?

Looks like blueprint-compiler tries to import gi but is unable to.
hydrapaper Build-Depends on python3-gi (and blueprint-compiler for that
matter). It seems that blueprint-compiler should depend on python3-gi to
funcion properly since it imports it when it's called. It's a run
dependency for blueprint-compiler, and not a build-dependency for
hydrapaper.

I'm therefore reassigning to blueprint-compiler and tagging it as
'affects'-ing hydrapaper.

Cheers,
Francisco

Hi, thanks for your quick reply,

I installed linux-image-6.0.0-1-amd64@6.0.2-1 from unstable and tested a
couple of times
closing the lid while having bluetooth headset connected and it seems ok so
far.

Thanks again and have a good evening,

Bug#1018977: bullseye-pu: package hydrapaper/2.0.2-1

2022-09-02 Thread Francisco M Neto
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: bullseye
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu
X-Debbugs-Cc: fmn...@fmneto.com

[ Reason ]
This solves the lack of a dependency in the binary package, as described in bug
#1010697. The only change is the addition of python3-pil to the Depends: field
in debian/control.

[ Impact ]
As is stands, the package is rendered unusable if the target host does not have
python3-pil installed. This solves the issue.

[ Tests ]
To keep the changes at a minimum, I have not added any automated tests. I did,
however, installed the new version of the package into a fresh stable
installation and the issue was not present.

[ Risks ]
Minimum risk involved. There are no packages that depend on hydrapaper.

[ Checklist ]
[X] *all* changes are documented in the d/changelog
[X] I reviewed all changes and I approve them
[X] attach debdiff against the package in stable
[X] the issue is verified as fixed in unstable

[ Changes ]
The 2.0.2-1 version of the package lacks python3-pil in the Depends: field in
debian/control. Some users had success running hydrapaper because python3-pil
is a fairly common package in python applications, so there is a reasonable
chance that they already have it installed. I have added it to the appropriate
field in the control file, so now it is always installed as a dependency for
hydrapaper, solving the issue.

[ Other info ]
A fix for this bug is also present in version 3.3.1-2 in Unstable.
[The following lists of changes regard files as different if they have
different names, permissions or owners.]

Hello,
thanks for your work!

What do you think about changing the setting to 0 to avoid
donations without user consent? I think the user can change
this later by passing parameters or using the config.json file.

I think this small change fixes it:

Bug#1002660: firmware-sof-signed: Sound/Mic does not work on Dell XPS 17 9710

2021-12-26 Thread Juan Francisco Miranda Aguilar
Package: firmware-sof-signed
Version: 1.9-1
Severity: important

Hi dear maintainer,

I have updated to the latest version, and my kernel is the latest
available for debian sid, 5.15.0-2.
and it's working fine, both, sound and mic, but when I play a video
from youtube, for example, before it
get started, I can hear like a clack sound, and the same when the
video is ended or paused, and it's always on the
same speaker, the left one. Even sometimes, I cannot hear anything on
this speaker for a while, but if I boot
on Windows, it works without any problem.

Best regards,

Juan Francisco.

Bug#989821: RFS: elementary-terminal/5.5.2-1~exp1 [ITP] -- Modern terminal from elementary project

2021-06-17 Thread Francisco M Neto
Hello again!

Just a follow-up: the package is now up to date. The executable now
is called "elementary-terminal". The "mo" locale was corrected with a
patch that I sent to upstream - they have already accepted it and merged
it so the next version should have it fixed.

I hope you can have another look at the package - and at other
elementary-related packages I'm sending to mentors.

Thanks for reviewing!

Francisco

After opening the ITP I realized it would be more appropriate to
change the package's name to "elementary-theme". When I uploaded it to
mentors.d.o, it complained about "closing bugs in a wrong way". I
assumed I'd have to reassign it to 'elementary-theme' (which causes no
errors in mentors.d.o) but I may have misinterpreted the requirements of
ITPs.

I'm reassigning it to wnpp now.

Thanks for noticing that :)

Cheers,
Francisco

This is just a follow-up. I decided to give it a try and succeeded in
changing the final executable from io.elementary.terminal to
elementary-terminal.

Cheers
Francisco

I went the other way, actually. At first I noticed the weird
executable name and wondered if I should rename it; but that would imply
making changes to the source (with possible unforseen consequences).
After asking in #debian-mentors I decided it was not worth the troulble.

> (On the other hand, if you strongly insist on keeping that Javaesque name,

I'm not married to that solution. If you think it's better to follow
the convention I'm okay with it. I'll make the necessary changes :)

> Most of translation .po files are empty — is there any reason to ship them?

That's pretty much what I figured. I didn't want to change the
upstream source so i just left those there. As for the "mo" locale, I've
notified them about it - it seems to be a generalized problem so I
wasn't sure where to file a bug report.

I haven't received an answer from them, though, so I'm thinking I
might just file a bug report on each package and move on.

That wasn't actually a translation; it was a typo... :P

But thanks for pointing it out, I've corrected it.

I can relate to that :)

Okay these are dealt with. What about those files that nave "No
Copyright" or are listed as "UNKNOWN"?
I couldn't find anything on the Policy or on the Dev Reference that
could give me a solution for that :(

If I had to compare it I'd say it's more like Atom, yes. I have never
heard of XCode, so I can't really say anything about it, but GNOME
Builder is pretty much targeted at people developing for GNOME. Not that
it's not useful elsewhere, but it really focuses on it, having
"official" support only for the languages they use the most with GNOME
(like C/C++, Python or Rust). And it behaves a lot more like an IDE with
a lot of extra features.

That's a good point. In fact, in their original description for it,
they mention that it _can_ become a full featured IDE if the user wants
it to. But it's designed with minimalism in mind, and has basic
features. It doesn't have all the features GNOME Builder has but, in
their words, one can "install extensions to turn Code into a full-blown
IDE".

I don't know about the authors; as far as I'm concerned, I've coded
with emacs for 20+ years so I'm still trying to decide which way to go.
I guess it depends on project/language. But I do like Code's
minimalistic approach.

Elementary Code earlier called Scratch, is an IDE
designed with simplicity in mind. It offers essential functionalities
such as git support, multi-panel and miniview support and extensions
for integration with the Terminal and web visualization.

It is written from scratch, with support for plugins. Its purpose is
to be lightweight and extensible, with plenty of customization
options. It support syntax highlighting for a wide range of
programming languages.

It is a minimalist, extensible GTK-based IDE that is not dependent
on GNOME. It follows the Elementary Human Interface Guidelines.

As with other elementary OS-related packages, I'll need a sponsor
(at least for the time being).

Originally named Pantheon Terminal, this is the default terminal emulator
in elementary OS. It is designed to be set up with sane defaults and
requires minimal configuration, following elementary's Human Interface
Guidelines.

This is yet another terminal emulator, which provides good funcionality
with good integration into the current GTK theme and minimal
requirement for configuration. It offers tab support and integration
with the desktop.

This package is part of an effort (on my part) to package some
applications from elementary OS for Debian.

Hello,

I've recently discovered xmacro and I've added a feature so it can record
delays between events, so the recorded macro contains timing data and the
replay matches the original inputs.

I'd like to maintain the package! I'm not sure if I should turn into its
new upstream as well...

Hello everyone,

I would like to help with this,
I reviewed the patches (thanks Dennis) and created an MR at

As Bart said, the patches solve the FTBFS.

I intend to make a delayed NMU in 7 days.

Bug#770247: Fwd: ITP: mars -- Asynchronous Block-Level Storage Replication

2021-01-21 Thread Gabriel Francisco
Forwarding to the ITP because I believe mars is an interesting project
and to keep people in the loop.

Hi, thanks for the updates!

Agree, getting mars into mainline will probably take some time,
specially because of the required kernel patches. But I found that mars
module can work fine with the vanilla/debian kernel when compiling it
via dkms.

I tested manually, setting up a small volume and writing lots of stuff
in it while checking the mars file in /proc (it really resembles mysql
replication, yay!). I would like to have some tests running just to give
me more confidence that I will not face any edge case. I'm trying to
have the current test suite running, so far I have a work-in-progress at
https://github.com/fgbreel/mars/tree/wip-dkms-run-test-suite where I'm
setting up two virtual machines, installing the package and running the
tests.

I felt that the existing test suite seems a bit rusty, but I don't mind.
Having *something* to assert that mars dkms works makes me happy :)

I'll check out the link/new test suite you shared and see how it fit the
whole picture. I just landed on a new job, but I'll try to provide an
update soon.

Stay safe,

Gabriel Francisco

Having a single giant patch is not a big issue, of course not nice for
the kernel folks, but fast.

Misunderstanding: my talk about the "jumbo patch" was not about MARS
or kernels, but about the _new_ test suite, written in _bash_ script.

Background: Gabriel had mentioned "the" test suite at github, although
there are 2 different test suites in total, thus I was starting to
explain something about the _new_ test suite.

Probably you don't need any of both test suites for making MARS
availabe to Debian users.

The "old" test suite is in the mars repo you already know, in
subdirectory test_suite/ . It is not developed anymore, because Frank
Liepold left 1&1 in May 2014 (see "git log -- test_suite/" showing his
last commit at his last working day).

You can find an outdated stage of the _new_ test suite at
https://github.com/schoebel/test-suite (which is a _separate_ repo /
project from MARS). My suggestion was to update this repo via a jumbo
patch (saving a lot of work for me).

Getting MARS into kernel upstream is a completely different topic.
Theoretically, it is just a new "driver", and changes practically
_nothing_ at the rest of the kernel. I would be very lucky if it could
be added to the kernel like a jumbo patch, since it adds only a bunch
of new files. I already tried some years ago, but it got stuck.

I will retry once it runs on linux-next again (years ago it did, but
then I had no time for updating it continuously).

Thank you very much,

Thomas

This seems to be fixed in current version (2.3.3). The offending line
has been changed:

- if (gfx_textSprites[TS_RADIO].life > 0)
=

Which corrects the mentioned condition (gfx_messageBox being NULL).

Also, I wasn't able to reproduce it with current version.

Bug#972854: seems not to work

Hi,

The tty-server is now deprecated, and tty-proxy (I would like to packaging it, I
don't think I will be able to make it before the freeze for bullseye) should be
used instead.

hmm, very good, I didn't realize it, thanks a lot,
as a new release has just come out, I will confirm if it remains.

Yes, it is the way the server was configured,
"use nginx as reverse proxy for the web interface at port 5000 (listen at 443,
terminate the TLS, and redirect to localhost:5000)
TLS endpoint at port 7654, and redirect to localhost:6543"

Yes, it is one of the things that are on my To-Do list.

Bug#963930: Abandoned ITA?

2020-10-27 Thread Francisco M Neto
Greetings,

I've been following this ITA for sometime, mostly because earlier this
year I was using starfighter as a case study for debian packaging.

I noticed that it has not seen activity in a while, and the Freeze is
getting closer. So I'd like to check if this package is still being
worked on.

I'd like to take over adoption for package starfighter. I'm going to
wait another 3 days for a reply, and after that I'll take ownership if
no reply is given.

Cheers

Bug#971983: ITP: golang-github-evilsocket-recording -- Allows reading and writing bettercap's session recordings

2020-10-10 Thread Francisco Vilmar Cardoso Ruviaro
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: golang-github-evilsocket-recording

Upstream Author : Simone 'evilsocket' Margaritelli
* URL : https://github.com/bettercap/recording
* License : GPL-3
  Programming Lang: Go
Description : Allows reading and writing bettercap's session recordings

A recording archive is a gzip file containing reference Session and Events
JSON objects and their changes stored as patches in order to keep the file
size as small as possible. Loading a session file implies generating all
the frames starting from the reference one by iteratively applying those
"state patches" until all recorded frames are stored in memory. This
is done to allow, UI side, to skip forward to a specific frame index
without all intermediate states being computed at runtime.
.
This package allows reading and writing bettercap's session recordings.
