Bug#945920: Random Chromium crashes

But why not package the new version, which probably already contains the patch?

I've already done the debugging, you look here:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=946648#40

This bug report is a duplicate, which is why both bug reports have been merged.

Chromium crashes primarily on multimedia content.
Tested in various media libraries and on youtube.

Bug#946648: Chromium randomly crashes in the latest version.; crashes within a few minutes

2020-01-03 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Dear Maintainer,

where do we go from here with this bug of crashes?
A new version is already available and could be rolled out.

https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git/+/refs/tags/79.0.3945.112

It would be nice if we, the community could test the new version.
This could close 2 bug reports at once.

Best regards

Bug#943909: Chromium: Is the chromium browser still supported in Debian?

2019-10-31 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Package: chromium
Version: 76.0.3809.100-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

The Chromium Browser is already outdated since 2 versions, therefore the
general question.
Is this browser still offered in the Debian repository?

What is the reason that prevents the Chromium maintainers from offering
Chromium in Debian?

Is there a source with information about the reasons?

Since Chromium is my default browser, it would be nice if my questions were
answered in as much detail as possible.

Thanks a lot!

Dear Maintainer,

why don't you create binary packages of chromium and publish them in the
unstable branch?
Did I miss something important?

I see this Chromium version as a required bugfix release.

I'm asking for clarification.

Thank you!

what information is missing to create an bug-free chromium version?
How and when will it continue?
Or will we wait until the next major release to get a bug-free chromium version?

Some feedback wouldn't be bad.

Bug#927913: Second chromium kills the first one, and we see "Restore pages?"

2019-04-25 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I started a chromium window and wanted to open one more.
This error has occurred since the update to version 74.0.3729.108-1.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?

As already described, I wanted to open another chromium window.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

The first Chromium window was closed with the following error message.
For error diagnosis I started Chromium via command line interface and could see
this error message.

Bug#917524: initramfs-tools: Upgrade from initramfs-tools package fails

2019-02-07 Thread Jürgen Göricke
after today's upgrade (full-upgrade), I have installed all the packages
available in the repository, but I still have the problem in my installation.
Your suspected problem was probably not?

Preface: »#« means root

After an attempt to renew the Grub configuration, I get the following error
message.

# update-grub
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of
`/dev/mapper/sda3_crypt'.

But the system can be started.

The error message during installation:

# apt full-upgrade

0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
2 not fully installed or removed.

I always restarted after installing the packages: udev and initramfs.
It is a notebook with UEFI (partition).

What data do you need from me to solve the problem?
I hope I can help you fix this tricky bug.

Bug#917524: initramfs-tools: Upgrade from initramfs-tools package fails

2018-12-28 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Hello Ben,

I already installed udev 240-2, but the bug in the initramfs-tools package
still exists.
This is not surprising, because udev was installed a few days ago without any
errors.
Only by installing the package "initramfs-tools" (version: 0.132: all) the
installation error occurred.

Can you please check again where exactly the error is?
Thanks a lot!

Below I have listed the packages installed on my system.

$  dpkg -l | grep udev
ii udev 240-2 amd64 /dev/ and hotplug management daemon

$  dpkg -l | grep initramfs-tools
iF initramfs-tools 0.132 all generic modular initramfs generator (automation)

Best regards

Jürgen

Package: initramfs-tools

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading the package "initramfs-tools" an error occurs in the
post-installation process.

Unfortunately, the manual generation of the package does not bring any success.

The problem can be solved if you have installed the package "chromium-sandbox"!
After that chromium starts again without problems.

If you really don't want to use a sandbox - which I don't think makes sense -
you have to start chromium with the switch "--no-sandbox".
I hope that explains all possible options?

Bug#892147: Please create the Pragha package with complete audio (api) support

2018-04-21 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Hello Gabriel,

I can also resolve the URL with curl and play it back with the gstreamer
framework, but directly in pragha the link extracted with curl is not played
back.
At least the artist's name, the title played and the channel in the pragha are
resolved as text, but unfortunately no music is played.
And yes, the volume control in pragha _and_ the system is set to full volume.

Small additional information, in audacious I can play any online streaming link
immediately with curl, or similar workarounds without any effort.
I also got this package from the Debian repository.

It would be nice, though, if pragha could also enable problem-free playback of
the live streaming sources.

How else can I help you to find the problem?

Best regards

Oh, I'm so surprised! Because the error message suggests otherwise.

> So, I'm guessing that this is not a problem specific to alsa.

This could be assumed, at least for the time being, if we look at the facts to
date.

> I don't know how to solve that, yet, but I'll investigate.

Maybe it makes sense to contact the Pragha project (upstream) directly and
report the problem there? This might help to find and fix the bug faster and
provide all distributions with a bugfix release.

> Thanks for the additional information! :)

You're welcome! We are all interested in solving this problem and to be able to
offer all community members (almost) error-free software.

> Just to confirm, have you tried to play an audio file (a .ogg file, for

Yes, I tried playing local audio files.
Both ogg and mp3 files can be played without problems!

Hello Gabriel,

Sorry to keep answering so late!

I have installed only a ALSA instance (alsa-tools alsa-utils and
gstreamer1.0-alsa) on my system.
In the Pragha settings I have selected Alsa as my audio system.
There is no pulse audio on my system.
In my case I can't do a live stream, for example Classic FM from London
(http://media-ice.musicradio.com/ClassicFMMP3.m3u)
Pragha reports (see screenshot) that a gstreamer plugin is missing

Unfortunately I am not a software developer and I don't know exactly how I can
give support?

> Do you know how to do it?
No, since I'm not sure what exactly is meant?

> I looked into pragha's code and I didn't find any macros preventing alsa code
> from being built.
But there must be some reason why I can't use pragha with full functionality?

> In your machine do you build pragha from sources? If so...
No, I installed the pragha package from the Debian repository.

> - Do you need to pass any additional flags to configure?
No I did not create pragha from source code.

> - Do you have any development libraries installed?
No I have no development libraries installed.

I hope my information helps you to narrow the problem down a bit?
If you have any further questions, I will try to answer them as soon as
possible!

Bug#892147: Please create the Pragha package with complete audio (api) support

2018-03-05 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Package: pragha
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Please create the Pragha package with gstreamer1.0-alsa _and_
gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio support.
Reason: There are still many users of this package who don't want to use
Pulseaudio.
It should be possible to install and use either gstreamer1.0-alsa or
gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio.
Since Pragha is one of the few audio players that meets my requirements for a
slim audio player, it would be wonderful if users who don't want to use the
Pulseaudio could use this player.
Thank you very much!

Bug#849578: task-xfce-desktop: Why you use the vlc player in the task-xfce-desktop meta package?

2018-02-25 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Hello everyone,

because this bug report is still not closed, I would like to check the status
of this bug report after more than a year and after the release of Debian
Stretch.
When is it planned to replace the VLC Media Player with Xfce's own Media Player
Parole?
And no, the VLC player is not a good alternative, as mentioned above due to the
Qt dependencies and of course because this player often has security
vulnerabilities.
It is therefore advisable to replace the VLC Media Player with the Media Player
Parole.

Regards

Jürgen

Bug#872610: Firefox 55: Why you compiled the firefox without ALSA support again

2017-08-19 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Package: firefox
Version: 55.0-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

why you compiled the firefox with pulseaudio support only again?
I wan't install and use pulseaudio on my system and the firefox esr is no
alternative for me.
A response from mozilla support redacted that the firefox can compiled
with alsa support in the future too. Please compile the firefox (without esr)
with alsa _and_ pulseaudio support! Thanks!

Bug#849578: task-xfce-desktop: Why you use the vlc player in the task-xfce-desktop meta package?

2016-12-31 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Dear Maintainer,

see all the dependencies from package vlc in Debian Sid.

https://packages.debian.org/sid/vlc

http://paste.debian.net/905778

Vlc needs Qt dependencies by default.

What is the problem with parole to add the task-xfce-desktop respectively
tasksel meta packages?

Why you wan't change the packages? I can't understand it.

Parole is the default media player from xfce project and not so bloated
as the vlc player.

Bug#849578: task-xfce-desktop: Why you use the vlc player in the task-xfce-desktop meta package?

2016-12-28 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Package: task-xfce-desktop
Version: 3.39

Dear Maintainer,

why you use the vlc player in the task-xfce-desktop meta package instead
the parole player from xfce project directly?

The advantages from parole player are, you don't need Qt dependencies from
vlc player. The parole player is written in Gtk+, runnig fine and need
the gstreamer framework only.

Please do set the parole player as default player in the
task-xfce-desktop meta package.
Many thanks!

Best regards and happy new year.

Bug#740328: Package xfce4-panel error in module: libtasklist.so

2014-02-28 Thread Jürgen Göricke
Subject: Package xfce4-panel: error in module libtasklist.so
Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.10.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

i have an unsightly cosmetic fault in module 'libtasklist.so' in
package xfce4- panel found. Because of this error can be a custom
panel only up so that you have to use an ( invisible ) separation
element . Exactly it comes to that at 100 percent expansion of the
panel , the task list is only magnified when applications are open in
sufficient numbers . So I proceeded : Create a new empty panel in the
settings panel enlarge it to 100 % of the screen width and insert
various controls via the menu. Once a hurry element to the right of the
taskbar ( for example, the clock ) is available, it is drawn as a
function of open applications always up to the last open application ,
but the clock will remain fixed at the right edge of the monitor. It
would be nice if this error could be removed until the stable release
of Debian Jessie . I hope you can help me? Thank you.

The path to the modules in a Debian Testing 64-bit:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins/libtasklist.so

I have seen this error in several other distributions , such as Fedora
20 64 bit . So this is a programming error.

Questions, please always indicate the e -mail address :
remove-me-bugrep...@smart-mail.de .
Please first remove the »remove-me« from the e-mail address.

In german translation because my english is not so good.

Ich habe einen unschönen kosmetischen Fehler in Modul 'libtasklist.so'
im Paket xfce4-panel gefunden. Wegen diesem Fehler kann man ein
benutzerdefiniertes Panel nur so einrichten, dass man sich eines
(unsichtbarem) Trennelement bedienen muss.
Danke.

Der Pfad zum Module in einem Debian Testing 64 Bit:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins/libtasklist.so

Ich habe diesen Fehler auch in verschiedenen anderen Distributionen,
zum Beispiel Fedora 20 64 bit gesehen. Das ist also ein
Programmierfehler.
