Bug#880704: bumblebee-nvidia: Upgrading mesa and nvidia drivers with bumblebee-nvidia installed breaks the desktop

2017-11-03 Thread JWM
Package: bumblebee-nvidia
Version: 3.2.1-16
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

My system is a Thinkpad T440p, with both an Intel and an NVIDIA Optimus cards.
On Wednesday, upgrading both the Mesa libraries and the NVIDIA driver broke the
desktop ---i.e., after reboot, the GDM target never showed up due to a Clutter
error.

Synaptic's history shows the following as installed/upgraded/removed on that
day:

In order to solved the issue, I uninstalled all the NVIDIA-related packages,
reinstalled GDM and blacklisted nouveau.

After that, I tried installing bumblebee-nvidia again, which effectively broke
the system once again.

So it seems the bumblebee-nvidia package is not compatible with the newest mesa
and NVIDIA drivers.

Bug#872554: nautilus no longer shows user-mountable nfs and samba shares in left panel

2017-08-18 Thread JWM
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.22.3-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After some recent system upgrade this month, when I open nautilus I no longer
see the list of mountable nfs and samba shares in the left panel.

All the nfs shares are defined in fstab, in the following way:

: /media// nfs4
rw,relatime,vers=4.0,rsize=1048576,wsize=1048576,hard,proto=tcp,port=0,timeo=600,retrans=2,noatime,noauto,users,_netdev
0 0

And for all the samba shares:

///  /media//  cifs
rw,guest,noauto,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8,users,_netdev 0 0

With , , and being the only things changing in
the configuration.

If I mount the share from command line, with

mount /media//

Then nautilus shows the mounted share in the left panel, right below my Google
Drive entry, but the share disappears again as soon as unmounted.

Bug#851928: linux-image-4.9.0-1-amd64: Kernel 4.9 fails to boot on Thinkpad T440p

2017-01-19 Thread JWM
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.2-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading my Thinkpad T440p to linux-image-amd64 from unstable (along
with linux-headers-amd64, linux-doc, linux-perf, linux-source and linux-tools),
I am unable to boot with the 4.9.2 kernel.

Right after GRUB times out, the screen goes blank and nothing happens.

According to this page

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191121

There's already a patch that can be applied to 4.9.2 in order to solve the
issue.

At work I have a Lenovo laptop (not Thinkpad), and the system boots properly
with the kernel from unstable, so it seems to be a Thinkpad-only issue.

Bug#844383: php-gearman: New version is missing /usr/lib/php/20151012/gearman.so

2016-11-14 Thread JWM
Package: php-gearman
Version: 1.1.2-96-ge77f981+1.1.2+-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

According to tracker.debian.org, php-gearman version php-gearman
1.1.2-96-ge77f981+1.1.2+-3 migrated to testing today.

The new package renders any gearman-using php application unusable, due to the
missing /usr/lib/php/20151012/gearman.so file.

The following warning is issued whenever I try to launch php's built-in web
server:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
'/usr/lib/php/20151012/gearman.so' - /usr/lib/php/20151012/gearman.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

That warning is echoed by the Cron Daemon.

Dear Maintainer,

Dear Maintainer,

After installing the newly uploaded mysql-workbench 6.3.6+dfsg-1, whenever I

Bug#837786: mutter: Issues repainting the display on mouse movement

2016-09-14 Thread JWM
Package: mutter
Version: 3.21.92-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading my system this morning and restarting a new gnome-shell session
(by rebooting), everything being displayed fails to repaint properly.

Everytime I launch an application and try to move the window it leaves traces
(i.e., shadows of its previous positions). The same happens on mouse hover.

Also, the clock (on the top desktop) flickers constantly. Something similar
happens with the title bar in certain applications (e.g., vivaldi).

Since the only packages upgraded were related to mutter and gnome-shell, I
figure the one to blame is mutter.

I tried upgrading mutter to the version in unstable, but the result is the
same.

There is also no difference by using the classic gnome session or the wayland
session ---although, with wayland, the flickering and repainting is slightly
less frequent.

I tried recording the desktop session (with GNOME's screencast functionality),
but funnily the flickering stops while recording.

Bug#822525: gnome-todo: Memory leak while loading local and remote lists

2016-04-24 Thread JWM
Package: gnome-todo
Version: 3.20.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

The new gnome-todo (which, excepct for the list mode in the List View, and the
time labels in the Schedule View, does exactly the same as the previous
version), now uses about 800 MB to display four lists, three local and one
remote.

I tried to run valgrind (with evolution and evolution-data-server symbols
installed), but gnome-todo got stuck trying to load the third, local, list
(i.e., valgrind had a 100% CPU usage for 10 straight minutes).

After ending valgrind, the memory in use was about 400 MB. Here's the partial
log:

Bug#790434: gnome-panel: Upgrading to 3.16 pulls in a lot of libraries from xfce4

2015-06-29 Thread JWM
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 3.8.1-7+b1
Severity: normal

I discovered that gnome-panel 3.16.1-3 pulls in a lot of libraries from xfce4.

It seems right now there's no way to avoid installation of xfce4 components
---since what led me to noticing gnome-panel's issue, was the fact that a
similar dependency issue was fixed recently for workrave (see Bug #783845).

2014-07-24 Thread JWM
Package: evolution-data-server
Version: 3.12.2-1
Severity: normal

After upgrading most of the remaining GNOME to 3.12 from Unstable, the
evolution-data-server consumes 100% CPU all the time, but the calendar in
shell's top bar doesn't display any event/task/appointment.

Furthermore, after opening evolution, the Saving user interface message is
displayed at the status bar, and selecting any folder in the left pane (e.g.,
Inbox, Sent, Trash) does not display its contents.

I tried downgrading the evolution-related packages, but the behavior is the
same. I also tried deleting ~/.{cache,config,local/share}/evolution and
restoring from the backup I made before the 3.12 upgrade, but after restoring
the behavior is the same.

After installing evolution-dbg and evolution-data-server-dbg and restarting the
desktop session, when trying either CALDAV_DEBUG=all /usr/lib/evolution
/evolution-calendar-factory ~/e-c-f-caldav.log or WEBCAL_DEBUG=1
/usr/lib/evolution/evolution-calendar-factory ~/e-c-f-webcal.log, all I get
in the logs is:

Bus name 'org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.Calendar4' acquired.

So far the only workaround that prevents the battery from being drained (since
evolution-calendar-factory makes the rate jump from 15W to 40W), was
renaming/disabling the evolution-calendar-factory file in /usr/lib/evolution
---since simply killing evolution-calendar-factory just makes it restart.

If possible, please let me know if I can provide any further information.

Bug#747053: libcsiro0 depends on libqhull5, but repository contains libqhull6 (blocks installation of libplplot* )

2014-05-05 Thread JWM
Package: libcsiro0
Version: 5.9.9-5+b1
Severity: important

Trying to install libplplot11 fails, due to its dependency upon libcsiro0,
which lists libqhull5 as a dependency.

The Debian repository already includes libqhull6, but no libqhull5, which means
the plplot-related packages cannot be installed at all.

Ubuntu already includes libplplot12 (see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/libplplot12 ), which has the dependencies on
libcsiro0 and libqhull6 satisfied, so upgrading the libplplot* and libcsiro0
packages in the Debian repository could be the best option.

Bug#741584: linux-image-3.13-1-amd64: Thinkpad T440p: fails to boot with kernel 3.13

2014-03-14 Thread JWM
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.13.5-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

With today's kernel update, after rebooting the machine, it gets stuck at the
point where gdm is supposed to show up. There is no response at all and cannot
switch to any tty.

The Fn light stays green but can be unlocked (with Fn+Esc), but the F4 light
indicator stays red all the time. Eventually, the display turns off, but the
keyboard light indicators remain on.

The system boots properly with the kernel 3.12 ---The NVIDIA driver (bumblebee)
is not installed, because it corrupts the filesystem.

I have all the firmware-*0.41 packages installed, and systemd is the init
handler (including systemd-sysv).

The kernel log seems to mention xhci_hd as the problem.

Bug#724876: gedit: Gedit reverts to default accels on start-up

2013-09-29 Thread JWM
Package: gedit
Version: 3.8.3-3+b1
Severity: normal

In gedit 3.8, after changing some of the menu shortcuts and restarting, those
changes are lost.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable can-change-accels in org.gnome.desktop.interface
2. Open a text file in gedit
3. Assign an accelerator to a menu item (e.g., Ctrl+U to EditChange
CaseInvert Case)
4. Try the new accelerator (it works!)
5. Close all instances of gedit and reopen
6. Try the new accelerator (it doesn't work!)

In gedit 3.4.x and older, the change worked properly.

Bug#690587: nautilus-emblems: Emblems tab does not appear in nautilus properties if the rabbitvcs-nautilus package is installed

2012-10-15 Thread JWM
Package: nautilus-emblems
Version: 0.1.0-2
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

The Emblems tab in nautilus properties works properly, unless the rabbitvcs-
nautilus package is installed, in which case it does not appear at all.

It does not seem to be an issue with either nautilus or the rabbitvcs package,
since both work properly.

Also, the /usr/share/nautilus-python/extensions directory contains
insync_plugin.py (from the insnync-beta-gnome-cinnamon-common package) and
nautilus-compare.py (from the nautilus-compare package), which also work
properly regardless of whether rabbitvcs-nautilus is installed or not.
