Bug#979421: problem installing for lighttpd: /usr/bin/php-cgi: No such file or directory

2021-01-06 Thread James Dietrich
Package: phpmyadmin
Version: 4:4.9.7+dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

I am running Debian testing.

I made a fresh install of lighttpd and did not change its configuration or
enable any modules.

Then I installed phpmyadmin and asked it to configure automatically for
lighttpd. This caused lighttpd to be unable to start. I checked the log and
found this message:
Jan 06 08:44:06 saturn lighttpd[339062]: /usr/bin/php-cgi: No such file or
directory
Jan 06 08:44:06 saturn systemd[1]: lighttpd.service: Main process exited,
code=exited, status=255/EXCEPTION

I think that this is because the postinst script in the phpmyadmin package
enables the lighttpd fastcgi-php module:
lighty-enable-mod phpmyadmin auth fastcgi fastcgi-php
But this module needs to have /usr/bin/php-cgi available, and phpmyadmin
doesn't depend on the php-cgi package.

Note, though, that the description for the php-cgi package says this:
"Note that MOST users probably want the php-fpm package that provide FastCGI
support."
So I think that, rather than phpmyadmin adding a dependency on php-cgi, it
would be better for phpmyadmin to add a dependency on php-fpm and enable the
fastcgi-php-fpm module in its postinst.

Let me know if I can provide any further information.

Thank you,
James Dietrich

Bug#979380: problem installing for lighttpd when fastcgi-php-fpm is already enabled

2021-01-05 Thread James Dietrich
Package: phpmyadmin
Version: 4:4.9.7+dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

I am running Debian testing.

I installed lighttpd and, among other things, enabled the fastcgi-php-fpm
module. At this point lighttpd was functioning properly as expected.

Then I installed phpmyadmin and asked it to configure automatically for
lighttpd. This caused lighttpd to be unable to start. I determined that this
was due to the fact that the postinst script in the phpmyadmin package enables
the lighttpd fastcgi-php module:
lighty-enable-mod phpmyadmin auth fastcgi fastcgi-php

My solution was to manually disable the fastcgi-php module, which allowed
lighttpd to start again.

But I don't think that the phpmyadmin postinst should enable fastcgi-php when
the fastcgi-php-fpm module is already enabled.

Let me know if I can provide any further information.

Thank you,
James Dietrich

Bug#977604: smarty3: broken internal parsetree code

2021-01-05 Thread James Dietrich
After encountering this problem today, what worked for me was to download
v3.1.36 from GitHub and use that directly, instead of using the Debian package.

So, I wonder, is the problem in the Debian packaging somehow?

Bug#902533: missing files

2018-06-27 Thread James Dietrich
Package: fonts-goudybookletter
Version: 2010.07.03-4
Severity: normal

All the Condensed ttf and otf files are missing:
GoudyBookletter1911Condensed.otf
GoudyBookletter1911Condensed.ttf
GoudyBookletter1911BoldCondensed.otf
GoudyBookletter1911BoldCondensed.ttf
GoudyBookletter1911ItalicCondensed.otf
GoudyBookletter1911ItalicCondensed.ttf
GoudyBookletter1911LightCondensed.otf
GoudyBookletter1911LightCondensed.ttf
Evidently this is because they are not being generated--need to add
$(F)Condensed.sfd $(F)BoldCondensed.sfd $(F)ItalicCondensed.sfd
$(F)LightCondensed.sfd arguments to the lines that call sfd2ttf.ff and
sfd2otf.ff in debian/rules.

Also all the files for the Regular variant of the font are missing:
GoudyBookletter1911.otf
GoudyBookletter1911.sfd
GoudyBookletter1911TT.ttf
These files are present in the build directory, but are not being included in
the debian package. Need to adjust debian/install.

One more thing-- is it necessary to package the .ttf and .otf and .sfd for each
font? I would think it would be sufficient to package only the .ttf or only the
.otf files.

Thank you!

Bug#812098: maximum number of clients reached

2016-01-20 Thread James Dietrich
Package: xserver-xorg-input-wacom
Version: 0.26.0+20140918-1
Severity: important

I have a Wacom tablet, which was working fine with Wheezy. Recently I
installed Jessie and after a while, no more X applications would start
due to the error "Maximum number of clients reached". According to
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2009-May/081536.html this
error message can mean exactly what it says, or it can mean that X has
run out of file descriptors. In this case it was the latter, and it was
triggered by a bug in the xorg wacom input driver. Here's what the
problem looks like:

My Xorg process had a pid of 6087, and this command shows the number of
file descriptors for that PID:
root@saturn:~# ls /proc/6087/fd | wc -l
32
root@saturn:~#
After unplugging the tablet and then plugging it back in I got this:
root@saturn:~# ls /proc/6087/fd | wc -l
33
root@saturn:~#
After unplugging the tablet again and then plugging it back in I got
this:
root@saturn:~# ls /proc/6087/fd | wc -l
34
root@saturn:~#

And so on Every time the tablet was unplugged and plugged back in,
Xorg accumulated another file descriptor. Then when Xorg reached its
file descriptor limit it gave the "Maximum number of clients reached"
when attempting to start any additional programs. (Incidentally, it
didn't take very long for this to happen. I have my tablet connected
through a KVM switch, so every time I switched to my other computer and
then back again, that was equivalent to unplugging the tablet and then
plugging it back in.)

This bug was reported upstream at
http://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/bugs/263/

It was fixed in version 0.28.0 by the commit debc8372. It's a very
simple commit--just moving one line a couple lines down:

diff --git a/src/xf86Wacom.c b/src/xf86Wacom.c
index e6962dd..55b8b7c 100644
--- a/src/xf86Wacom.c
+++ b/src/xf86Wacom.c
@@ -753,9 +753,9 @@ static void wcmDevClose(InputInfoPtr pInfo)

{
-   pInfo->fd = -1;
if (!--common->fd_refs)
wcmClose(pInfo);
+   pInfo->fd = -1;
}
 }

I confirmed that this solves the problem. I downloaded the
xf86-input-wacom Debian source package, manually moved that line as
shown above, built the Debian package, and installed it. Now when I
unplug and replug the tablet, it does not increase Xorg's file
descriptor count:
root@saturn:~# ls /proc/8228/fd | wc -l
32
root@saturn:~#
After unplugging the tablet and then plugging it back in I get this:
root@saturn:~# ls /proc/8228/fd | wc -l
32
root@saturn:~#
After unplugging the tablet and and then plugging it back in I get this:
root@saturn:~# ls /proc/8228/fd | wc -l
32
root@saturn:~#

I would like to recommend that this fix be added to the xorg wacom input
driver in Jessie. It certainly is frustrating to get that "Maximum
number of clients reached" error and not know why it's happening. I've
solved the problem for myself now, but including this trivial fix in
stable could potentially save a lot of frustration for other people.

Thank you,
James

However, the web interface is not set up, and so any attempt to visit
localhost:9091 in my web browser fails.

If I simply restart transmission-daemon (with the command systemctl
restart transmission-daemon), then all is well. But I shouldn't have to
manually restart transmission-daemon after each reboot in order to get
the web interface to work.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help with this.

Bug#710430: kernel fails to boot with Radeon 9250 PCI

2013-05-30 Thread James Dietrich
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64
Version: 3.2.41-2+deb7u2

Upon completing the initial install of Wheezy, I rebooted and discovered
that the kernel fails to boot. My video card is a Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB.

After the grub menu, a few lines are printed, the last one being
Waiting for /dev to be fully populated
And then the screen goes black, or else shows columns of character-like
marks, and the machine does not finish booting.

If I add radeon.modeset=0 to the end of the command line in grub, then
the machine does boot normally. So it seems that the problem has to do
with booting the radeon card with KMS enabled.

Using git I downloaded the kernel repository and discovered that this
machine could boot fine with KMS enabled in 2.6.33 and 2.6.34, but not
since then. Using git bisect pointed to this commit as the problematic
one:
commit 6b8b1786a8c29ce6e32298b93ac8d4a18a2b11c4
Author: Jerome Glisse jgli...@redhat.com

contained the output of dmesg and lspci.

Bug#258406: could this be a bug in nautilus instead?

2010-08-06 Thread James Dietrich
Hello,

I believe I just encountered this same bug: gnome-appearance-properties
allowed the selection of the background and modified the correct gconf
key (/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename), but the background
image was not modified on the desktop.

So then I restarted nautilus using 'nautilus -q' in gnome-terminal and
right away the correct background image was displayed, and now when I
select different backgrounds, the background image on the desktop is
changed.

Is there any possibility that this is a bug in nautilus and not in
gnome-control-center?

Also, if this happens again, is there anything else I can do to assist
in figuring out what the problem is?

In case it matters, my system is running a fairly up-to-date testing:
nautilus: 2.30.1-1
gnome-control-center: 1:2.30.1-1

Thanks,
James Dietrich

Bug#336216: abiword-gnome: print preview and main screen layout aren't the same

2005-10-28 Thread James Dietrich
Package: abiword-gnome
Version: 2.4.1-2
Severity: normal

The main screen shows that lines 1 through 49 are on the first page.
Print preview shows one less line, only lines 1 through 48.
Line 49 is nowhere to be seen, not even on a second page.

A test file demonstrating the above problem is attached to this report.
