  Programming Lang: javascript
Description : A purely functional red-black tree data structure (in
javascript)

from it's npm:

"A fully persistent red-black tree written 100% in JavaScript. Works both in
node.js
and in the browser via browserify.

Functional (or fully presistent) data structures allow for non-destructive
updates.
So if you insert an element into the tree, it returns a new tree with the
inserted
element rather than destructively updating the existing tree in place. Doing
this
requires using extra memory, and if one were naive it could cost as much as
reallocating the entire tree. Instead, this data structure saves some memory by
recycling references to previously allocated subtrees. This requires using only
O(log(n)) additional memory per update instead of a full O(n) copy.

Some advantages of this is that it is possible to apply insertions and removals
to
the tree while still iterating over previous versions of the tree. Functional
and
persistent data structures can also be useful in many geometric algorithms like
point location within triangulations or ray queries, and can be used to analyze
the history of executing various algorithms. This added power though comes at a
cost, since it is generally a bit slower to use a functional data structure
than an
imperative version. However, if your application needs this behavior then you
may
consider using this module."

This version of functional-red-black-tree has been evacuated from the
NSA/Microsoft
walled garden. functional-red-black-tree is a prerequisite of eslint ( #743404

Dear Maintainer,

As per the ubuntu bug report:

from https://snyk.io/vuln/npm:deep-extend:20180409 :

deep-extend "all the listed modules can be tricked into modifying the prototype
of "Object"
when the attacker control part of the structure passed to these function."

This is verifiably true on at least buster, given the PoC listed in the above

since it's the same deep-extend in sid, it's probably the same there.

The following commit apparently fixes this: (though I haven't verified that)

2019-03-18 Thread Jeff Cliff
Package: wnpp

https://salsa.debian.org/themusicgod1-guest/underscoreDeepExtend
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: javascript
Description : A deepExtend implementation for underscore, lodash and
friends

Based conceptually on the _.extend() function in underscore.js.

(Extend: to Shallowly copy all of the properties in the source objects over to
the destination object,
and return the destination object. Any nested objects or arrays will be copied
by reference, not duplicated.
It's in-order, so the last source will override properties of the same name in
previous arguments.)

This function is especially useful if you're working with JSON config
documents.
It allows you to create a default config document with the most common
settings,
then override those settings for specific cases. It accepts any number of
objects as arguments,
giving you fine-grained control over your config document hierarchy.

* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: javascript
Description : a plugin for gulp which runs Mocha tests in a separate
process from the gulp process.

Each time tests are run a new child process is created meaning the test
environment always starts cleanly,
i.e., globals are reset as are non-enumerable properties defined on native
prototypes via
Object.defineProperty. This also means that if your tests crash the node
process (e.g., process.exit(-1).)
then an error event is emitted rather than your whole gulp process crashing
(good for watching).

The original gulp-mocha is fine in most circumstances. If you need your tests
to run as a separate process
(or a separate process is simply your preference for the reasons specified
above) or you need to use a
custom version of Mocha (e.g., a fork with bug fixes or custom functionality)
then you should use this
plugin.

Bug#914508: tootle: Startup error is confusing if your web browser is broken

2018-11-23 Thread Jeff Cliff
Package: tootle
Version: 0.2.0-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

Scenario: you have a web browser installed, but GLib does not know about it.
(For example, elinks.)
1) You start tootle
2) enter in the instance name
3) hit connect
what happens:
4) an error message comes up, "Operation not supported"
and in the console (which most tootle users may not know is there) there is a
error message printed.
what should happen:
The user should be told how to actually get the information tootle needs in
order to work (ie the API key)

This patch adds a error dialog box so that when you try to connect, you are
told to visit a website,
which gets you a API key, so you can continue using tootle.

Bug#914507: tootle: lots of compiler warnings

2018-11-23 Thread Jeff Cliff
Package: tootle
Version: 0.2.0-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

When debugging an entirely unrelated problem (wait for it), I got annoyed at
the
compiler warnings and wrote some code to deal with all 20 of them.

There's 4 main types of warnings this patch will fix:
1) Asynchronous calls that were being invoked in an obsolete way - they were
implicitly invoking
'begin', made this call explicit
2) Some code was throwing exceptions (at least as far as the compiler was
concerned), and was not catching
it. Wrote some exception try/catch blocks to catch them. Was kind of strict
in terms of erroring
out instead of warning when this happened - if it turns out these exceptions
come out in practice, though
the scope of the exceptions and whether or not they are error/warnings would be
the first thing to check.
So far I haven't triggered them.
3) Some code would never be executed, as it occurs after the program is shut
down. Removed it.
4) (probably the most contentious) some code was using obsolete APIs, changed
or removed it.

Bug#911864: lintian gives E: statically-linked-binary for golang project's binary

2018-10-25 Thread Jeff Cliff
Package: lintian
Version: 2.5.110
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

According to #718404, golang packages aren't supposed to give an error of
statically-linked-binary because
all go language packages are apparently statically linked. And yet attempting
to build
https://notabug.org/themusicgod1/panicparse/
with debuild -us -uc -b gives this error:

Now running lintian

E: golang-notabug-themusicgod1-panicparse-dev: statically-linked-binary
usr/bin/panic

(/usr/bin/panic is generated from go code)

(incidentally, this happens on both debian & ubuntu)

what should happen: lintian should either not raising this error, (unless the
issue is on golang's end for

Bug#909517: torify: does not expand shell aliases

2018-09-24 Thread Jeff Cliff
Package: tor
Version: 0.3.4.8-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

It is often handy to create shell aliases to do tasks that would otherwise
require a lot
of retyping the same thing over and over. For example 'git push' might very
well be
aliased to 'push' at the shell level by

alias push='git push'

then you could conceivably use

> torify push

as a shorthand for

> torify git push

this however fails: torify does not expand the aliases and doesn't know what
'push' is.

As mentioned in the ubuntu downstream bug (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tor/+bug/1687037 )
it doesn't matter what shell you use, torify just doesn't check.

what happens: torify takes the arguments passed in without checking if there
are aliases involved
what should happen: is torify should be alias-aware.

Crashpad is a library for capturing, storing and transmitting postmortem crash
reports
from a client to an upstream collection server. Crashpad aims to make it
possible for
clients to capture process state at the time of crash with the best possible

PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

to .bashrc for root (which was empty) made at least installing/upgrading via
aptitude work...but there
wasn't much indication that I had to do this anywhere.

If this is something new that we have to do for buster, it should be in the
instructions

Bug#908895: RFP: node-eslint-restricted-globals -- A list of confusing globals that should be restricted to be used as globals

2018-09-15 Thread Jeff Cliff
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: node-eslint-restricted-globals
  Version : 0.0.1
Upstream Author : Siddharth "sidoshi" Doshi
* URL : https://notabug.org/themusicgod1/eslint-restricted-globals
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: javascript
Description : A list of confusing globals that should be restricted to be
used as globals

Some global variables in browser are likely to be used by people without the
intent of using them as globals, such as
status, name etc. And because eslint ( #743404 ) thinks of them as valid global
variables, it does not warn in case of
bugs. node-eslint-restricted-globals blacklists confusing globals which are
exported from this package. It contains
the list of variables that we think should not be used without a 'window'
qualifier. But as this is just a javascript
array you can add, remove variables or even make your own list of variables.

There's significant(more than 100 separate NPM packages) work that has been
built on top of node-eslint-restricted-globals
in particular, some dependencies of 'node-babel-preset-es2016-node5' ( #908765
).
