Does running apt-get install -y perl-base (without the quotes) first
make the upgrade work?

The machine was restored via backup. I can retry this evening.

would you like me to 'apt-get install -y perl-base' after 'apt-get
upgrade' and before 'apt-get dist-upgrade', or after 'apt-get
dist-upgrade' breaks ?

Bug#752050: upgrade-reports: Upgrade from Squeeze to Wheezy failed because of perl issues

2014-06-18 Thread Jeremy Kister
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

changed 'squeeze' to 'wheezy' in /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

the dist-upgrade broke during perl prep:
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=Nx6AXXKy

I could not use CPAN to install File::Basename (to try to kickstart)
because it is core module.

Bug#680168: update

2012-07-25 Thread Jeremy Kister
I've installed Debian 5 on the same hardware with the same RAID1
configuration without issue. I can then upgrade to Debian 6.

However, upon upgrade to Debian 6, i found the system hangs after
warnings on the console about disabling DMA.

Debian5 also printed warnings to the console about disabling DMA, but
the system keeps running, no hang.

So, after installing Debian5, i use hdparm to set the disks to udma3 and
then upgrade to Debian6. no more issues.

I'm betting that the installer on Debian6 is running into DMA issues and
then the system hangs.
