I will try to do that.
I'll need to read some wireshark documentation first. ;-)
With a bit of luck I can get back with results before the end of the month.

I had a quick look at the source code the other day and it looks as if
it might be easier to add more debugging output to log the failed ldap
query than to go the wireshark way.

Either way, I'll see what I can get.

Package: winbind
Version: 2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2
Severity: normal

I have samba installed as a domain controller.
On one of the clients I can no longer get the user information.
wbinfo -u does not return any users while wbinfo -g works fine.

With increased log levels, I get

ldap_search_with_timeout((objectCategory=user)) -> Time limit exceeded

when retrieving the users with "wbinfo -u" while "wbinfo -g" works fine.

This does not occur in 2:4.1.17+dfsg-2+deb8u2 but things break both in
jessie and sid.

The relevant smb.conf on the client is

With either
  tasksel tasksel/first multiselect standard

or

Bug#815344: preseeding: empty tasksel not possible

2016-02-20 Thread John Wyzer
Package: debian-installer
Version: 20150422+deb8u3
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

I used the current netboot.tar.gz for debian jessie from
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/jessie/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/
to create a pxe based preseeded installation.
Everything works fine except the tasksel configuration.
I don't want to execute any of the tasksel tasks.
Whatever I do, the installer starts to install about 1500 packages including
Xorg.

I tried
tasksel tasksel/first multiselect
then I added
tasksel tasksel/skip-tasks string standard
which I had in a working minimal configuration for wheezy.

Nothing helped.

I ran a normal manual install and dumped the configuration with
debconf-get-selections --installer
The output contained the line
d-i tasksel/first multiselect
which is different from what is documented for the installer - but I tried
that, too.

Then I added all the tasks from "tasksel --list" to the skip-tasks line
mentioned above

Still a full desktop installation.

Is there any way to install a really minimal configuration via preseeding in
jessie?

Bug#760186: nmtui: wifi-list for activation has same font color as background

2014-09-01 Thread John Wyzer
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.9.10.0-1.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I tried to set up a wifi connection with nmtui in a console. (Not a terminal
window in X11 but a text console that I got after the text login prompt.)

I proceeded to the Activate a connection option and wanted to select my
wifi network. I can scroll through many available wifi networks (the red bar
moves down and I can activate random networks by pressing enter).

The problem is that I cannot find my network name since there is no text -
as if the font color is the same as the background color. This also does not
change when the red bar moves over the network name - it is all red.

What's funny is that the following is visible:

-
Wired
  Wired connection 1

Wi-Fi
-

but there are no visible names of wifi networks below Wi-Fi (they are
still selectable).

Bug#752379: x2goclient: Starting a virtualbox machine on the server while in an x2go session freezes x2go

2014-06-23 Thread John Wyzer
Package: x2goclient
Version: 4.0.2.0-2
Severity: important

When I start a virtualbox machine while in an x2go session (virtualbox is
running
on the machine I've connected to with x2go), the moment the window of the
virtual machine opens the x2go session freezes. I can however suspend it and
after resuming the session, everything is fine.

Bug#650218: libgstreamer0.10-0: undefined symbol: g_error_get_type

2011-12-07 Thread John Wyzer

Is it possible to run other gstreamer applications, e.g. rhythmbox,
 totem, gst-inspect-0.10, ...?

Actually I found a libgio in /usr/lib that was not supposed to be there.
I I guess this can be closed.

Bug#626696: xscreensaver: phospohor segfaulting

2011-05-15 Thread John Wyzer
Excerpts from Jamie Zawinski's message of Sat May 14 22:34:25 +0200 2011:
I suspect your stack trace is nonsense since that looks like it's crashing
 inside of forkpty.

Or, possibly /dev/pty* has gotten screwed up on your box.

Hmm. Actually an upgrade of libc6 from 2.11.2-10 to 2.11.2-11 did it.
So consider this report closed, please. :-)

Bug#626696: xscreensaver: phospohor segfaulting

2011-05-14 Thread John Wyzer
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.11-1+b1
Severity: important

When I start phosphor, it only has the blinking cursor, no output whatsoever.

A fast examination of the dumped core from the phosphor binary gives me:

Core was generated by `/usr/lib/xscreensaver/phosphor'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.
