Bug#741934: live-build: support for making the contents of the cache directory softlinks

2014-03-17 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: live-build
Version: 3.0.5-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

I'm trying to do multiple live builds in parallel. To not use excessive amounts
of diskspace I'm using links to share the cache directory.

In the chroot stage that fails, since the copied links in the chroot don't
point to any accessible location.

This problem disappeared after adding the -L option to the find command in the
functions/cache.sh script.

This is going to introduce problems with the hardlinks in some situations of
course. However those seem rare. Do you think you could make that change?

Thanks, Jonas Meyer

Bug#709207: cups: Duplex printing from ios6 via airprint doesn't work

2013-05-21 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: cups
Version: 1.5.3-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I set up a OKI B430dn printer, using OKIs PPD. The printer is connected via
Ethernet to the LAN. I enabled sharing of the printer an Internet sharing and
the printer popped up in the Print Menu of my iPod running the latest version
of iOS6.

Single Sided Printing works exactly as expected. But if I enable double Sided
Printing I get the very sam output, but the paper takes the extra route through
the duplexer. Printing to the PDF file Printer shows, that no empty pages get
inserted in the filtering. Looking at the ps file that is to be sent to the
printer doesn't show any problems, either. This seems to be true with the latest
versions of cups and cups-filters, too.

If I send duplex jobs any other way than from iOS everything works as expected.

So when I print a duplex job from IOS the duplexer gets activated and the paper
travels the extra way through the printer. Instead I'd expect the printer to
actually print on both sides.

cheers,

Jonas Meyer

Bug#709207: cups: Duplex printing from ios6 via airprint doesn't work

2013-05-21 Thread Jonas Meyer
Hi OdyX,

I don't have another printer readily available - I'll ask around.

By any other way I meant printing from locally running programs or from
another Computer.

As you think the PPD might be at fault I tried configuring the printer as a
Generic Postscript Printer using the POSTSCRI.PPD.
I'll try to find something that works better.

The CUPS Printer Test Page is printed just fine and double sided.

IOS on the other hand causes the printer to print an Error after flipping
the paper:

printing from ios does work indeed.

Thanks!

Bug#695787: cups: bad driver recommended for color laserjet 4500

2012-12-12 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: cups
Version: 1.5.3-2.4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
the suggested driver for the HP Color Laserjet are truly awful in comparison to
the foomatic/pxlcolor driver. All of a sudden the printer is faster than I knew
it could be and printing without pausing.
Unfortunately there are rendering mistakes, but those happen with the defualt
postscript driver, too.

Yes, we just need libjpeg62:i386 and libjpeg62:amd64 to be

I'm really glad eagle will stay in the archive for some more time.
But isn't the i386 package the important one?

Installing the package worked fine and eagle didn't break, though I
don't understand where the :i386 package came from.

@Jonas: for eagle, the :i386 package is what matters - but in Debian,
as a system, we strive for the whole archive to play well with each
other for everyone. We're trying to fix the case (as in the original
reporter) where someone originally had the 64 bit library installed
which prevented them from installing eagle. To fix it, we have to
update both the 64 and i386 version of the package.

Jonas, could you test this (I don't have an AMD64 system available)?
You can email me off list if you'd like detailed instructions on how
 to build/test this.

I'm not exactly sure what it is you want me to test. In any case here
is what I did:

root@amd64:/var# LANG=C dpkg -i /home/quitte/Downloads/libjpeg62_6b1-3_i386.deb
Selecting previously unselected package libjpeg62:i386.
(Reading database ... 250957 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking libjpeg62:i386 (from .../libjpeg62_6b1-3_i386.deb) ...
Setting up libjpeg62:i386 (6b1-3) ...
ldconfig: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgstvdp-0.10.so.23 is not a symbolic link

root@amd64:/var# dpkg --get-selections|grep libjpeg
libjpeg62:amd64 install
libjpeg62:i386 install
libjpeg8:amd64 install
libjpeg8-dev:amd64 install

Nothing broke. So to me this is looking very good.

Bug#672736: removal of eagle

2012-05-31 Thread Jonas Meyer
Dear Scott Howard,

I'm a student of Electrical Engineering and Eagle is one of the most
imprtant tools in the early toolkit. While I'd prefer if Kicad took
its place that's just not going to happen. At the very least any time
soon. While our Professors wouldn't mind if students used Kicad
instead it's just not feasible as the interoperability between Kicad
and eagle as far as I know makes teamwork impossible, unless all team
members were to switch.
About libjpeg62 not being multiarch: in my humble opinion keeping
eagle in the archive is reason enough to convert libjpeg62. At least
temporarily.
If a transition to libpng14 is not an option - please try talking to
the people at cadsoft. If I recall correctly the Metzler brothers,
authors of vdr are somehow important at cadsoft. They might be
understanding about the issues.

I hope you can find a way to keep eagle in the archive somehow.

regards,

Jonas Meyer

Bug#553449: xorg-server: Please use the nvidia driver before nv if it is present on the system

2009-10-31 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: xorg-server
Severity: wishlist

Once the nvidia-glx package is installed it should be used, too. There
already is a patch here:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=66fb253082ea42179180303393e48846208987fa
that tries nvidia before nv. It was reverted upstream though, because they
don't want to enable drivers that don't ship with xorg.
I tried the patch and as a result Xorg worked perfectly fine without
configuration on a system with nvidia graphics not supported by nv.

Thanks,
Jonas Meyer

Bug#523356: rhythmbox: bad handling of full mtp devices

2009-04-09 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.12.0-2
Severity: normal

When an mtp device runs out of space when transferring songs rhythmbox pops up
an error for every song that fails to transfer, but won't stop transferring
another song.
Also the error message is quite cryptic: LIBMTP_Send_File_From_File_Descriptor
(): all device storage is full or corrupt.

Bug#516983: pidgin: buddy icon can not be overriden

2009-02-24 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.4.3-4
Severity: wishlist

When chatting to some people, they keep changing their buddy icon to images
that may be offending. For example they might change it to a picture of them
hugging someone else, knowing fully well that you'd very much prefer hugging
them yourself.
In such cases, or even those where the picture is NSFW it would be great if
it could be overriden. What I would like to do is rightclick the picture and
select blacklist this and never be bothered with the selected picture
while still enjoying what other buddy icons the other user may select.

Thanks for considering,

Jonas

Hi.
IRC channels should not be called Raum. Instead please use the word Kanal.
While this might still be confusing to people that don't know the English

Rhythmbox just puts all songs in the same directory instead of creating an
artist/album/ structure. This seems to be necessary to support cover art at
least on the creative ZENv. I don't know wether other mtp devices can handle
subdirectories, though.

Hi
the upstream bugreport is: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502771
quoting:
When current HEAD tries to transfer a file to a device, and has to transcode
it, it reports the file size of the original file to libmtp, which results in
an error, and makes RB unable to transfer any tracks it has to transcode.

Please apply the patch in the report until there is a more generic fix.

Bug#469318: gpaint doesn't have undo, or it's well hidden

2008-03-04 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: gpaint
Version: 0.3.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,
I'm unable to find undo and redo anywhere in the menu. If it does actually
exist, please add that function to the edit menu.
Also I'd prefer if the mouse wheel didn't scroll but zoom instead. Scrolling
can easily bdone that way by zooming out and zooming in at a different
position.

regards, Jonas

Bug#344422: smbldap-tools: ldaps does not work

2008-01-24 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: smbldap-tools
Followup-For: Bug #344422

The problem with smbldap-tools is that it cannot connect to a ldap server
that doesn't run in unencrypted mode at all. I wanted to run slapd with -h
ldaps:/// only. smbldap-tools are unable to connect to it.
Unfortunately I don't know perl at all. But afaict the code snippet from the
original bug report should go somewhere in smbldap_tools.pm. I'd be very
glad if someone that knows perl could have another look at it.
Thanks, Jonas

Bug#437220: flashplugin-nonfree: the crashes are triggered by a full /tmp

2007-12-26 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 9.0.115.0.1
Followup-For: Bug #437220

The video in the initial bug report doesn't crash epiphany here. But running
out of space in /tmp while watching a video always crashes epiphany. Also
the plugin doesn't clean up the files in /tmp after crashing. So if it
crashed once because of that it will crash sooner afterwards.

Thanks, Jonas

Bug#402365: uswsusp: alive nf7g-hdready maybe works good enough to be white listed

2007-12-18 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: uswsusp
Version: 0.7-1
Followup-For: Bug #402365

Hi.
The Asrock alive nf7g-hdready mostly supports s2ram. The only problem
I'm having is reposting of the console. S2R always works in X. If I do
it in the console switching VTs to X and back will bring back the text.
This board has a nvidia nforce 630a chipset with onboard geforce
7050.
I tried doing what the README.s2ram-whitelist suggests. While I had the
repost video option enabled in the bios I tried all the listed s2ram
commands without -v and a few with -v. All of them didn't show any output on
resume but could be recovered by switching to X and back.
Then I disabled the repost video option in the bios and disabled X. I
gave it a few tries, but soon stopped because without X running there
was no text and I assumed that if there is no text to save it's
impossible to judge if it worked.
I also tried if the vga16fb module makes a difference - it doesn't.
All in all I think this works good enough to be white listed by default.
The s2ram -i output is:
sys_vendor = To Be Filled By O.E.M.
sys_product = To Be Filled By O.E.M.
sys_version = To Be Filled By O.E.M.
bios_version = P1.90

I'd be glad to do some more testing If there is anything you want me to
try.
Thanks, Jonas

2007-12-18 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: pm-utils

If I don't have uswsusp installed pm-suspend works mostly fine. The text

With uswsusp installed it fails without any useful entry in the logfile.
This is probably because I have to use s2ram -f to force the suspend as
my board isn't whitelisted.

Bug#455884: xserver-xorg-video-vesa: xserver+system crashes on via p4m900

2007-12-12 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: xserver-xorg-video-vesa
Severity: important

I just tried to help someone on irc with that chipset. From what he said
I understood that his whole system crashes as soon as the xserver quits.
His initial problem description was my laptop doesn't swtch off when I
shut it down.
In ubuntu the bug is #163192. The xserver-xorg-video-via package didn't
work for him at all (lenny). Unfortunately he left shortly before he
could try the openchrome package from ubuntu's universe rebuilt for
lenny. But I'd expect that to work.

Thanks. Jonas

Hi. Some windows programs don't come with an icon embedded in

Unfortunately those icons are the ugliest on my desktop.
I'm not any good at design but if it was usable I could spend some time
trying to recreate that icon as svg.

Bug#453342: gnomebaker: audiocd creation doesnt work as expected

2007-11-28 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: gnomebaker
Version: 0.6.2-3
Severity: normal

When an empty cd is inserted gnome volumemanager asks what I want to do
with it. Then I select burn audio CD. Now Id expect gnome baker to
create an audio CD if I drag audio files to the disk.
Im not sure if this should rather be a bug to gnome-volume manager. I'd
love to see it work in gnomebaker, though. I prefer the simple frontend
over braseros.
Thanks, Jonas

Bug#449510: evolution: changing the character encoding manually has no effect

2007-11-06 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: evolution
Version: 2.12.0-2
Severity: normal

Hi,
I received a probably iso8859-1 encoded mail containing Umlaute (äöü). The
header doesnt't define the character encoding. Evolution shows all Umlaute
in this mail as ?. In mails where the character encoding is utf-8 it
works without problems. I tried manually changing the character encoding in
the menu and afaict that doesn'T change anything at all.

Thanks, Jonas

Bug#449533: evolution doesn't always sync remote imap folders, never without quitting.

2007-11-06 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: evolution
Version: 2.12.0-2
Severity: important

Hello.
Since gmail now supports imap I gave it a try. Gmail uses tags for its
mail. those tags are the same as imap folders.
If I create a new imap folder foo in evolution all mails I put in there
will be tagged foo. But if I create a new tag in the web interface or some
other mailclient evolution won't display the new folder unless I quit and
restart evolution several times. It's pretty much unpredictable when an
imap folder will be added or deleted in the evolution view.
Icedove updates the view everytime send/receive mail is clicked.

Thanks, Jonas

Bug#449327: evolution: contacts cell width has offensive results in german

2007-11-04 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: evolution
Version: 2.12.0-2
Severity: minor

I just imported my pidgin contacts to evolution and was very confused to
read that everybody was called a Voller Narr. It took me some time to
figure out that this is a result of the cell width and it was supposed to
be Voller Name. Without looking in a dictionary I'd translate Voller Narr
to Complete idiot.
I'll be doing some fresh installs in the next days and am going to check if
this is the usual behaviour, or just a side effect of my fonts.
Regards, Jonas

When building the new package, where would the code to support this
option need to put the files?

 /usr/uclibc-mipsel/lib
 or
 /usr/mipsel/lib
 ?

/usr/mipsel-linux-uclibc
I'm assuming that adding uclibc-foo like I described here:
http://wiki.debian.org/EmDebian/UclibcToolchainBootstrap
is the right way to do it.

 for
 libc-uclibc-mipsel-cross_2.6.1-6_all.deb
 ?

 Also note:
 $ dpkg-architecture -auclibc-mipsel
unknown Debian architecture uclibc-mipsel, you must specify GNU system
type, too at /usr/bin/dpkg-architecture line 159.

As dpkg-cross merges back into dpkg, dpkg-cross will increasingly rely
on dpkg code. Just disabling the check isn't going to be sufficient. I
am unsure how much dpkg-cross 2.x will be able to support architectures
that are not already supported in dpkg-architecture and adding code to
dpkg-cross that cannot be supported by dpkg is futile as dpkg-cross
is expected to be removed before Lenny is released.

I never expected it to work without adding uclibc arches to dpkg.

CC'ing debian-embedded so that others working on uclibc can contribute
ideas on how dpkg and dpkg-cross can support unknown and new
 architectures.
I'm not sure what way of replying would be appropriate now. Please
tell me so you won't get everything three times.

Bug#437700: rhythmbox doesn't switch between last.fm stations at once

2007-10-16 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.11.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #437700

I still get the behaviour that is described in the initial bug report with
the version from experimental. As an example I have two stations: Blumentopf's
Similar Artists and Frank Sinatra's Similar Artists. The first is german
Hiphop. If I click on Blumentopf's while Frank Sinatra's is still running
I'll get another Song similar to Frank Sinatra. unless I click on Blumentopf
a second time. As far as I can tell switcingbetween two stations immediately
never works.

Bug#420615: plural von Portrait

2007-04-30 Thread Jonas Meyer

Hallo Rene
auftaucht.

Bug#384864: gpm can not be cross compiled

2006-08-27 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: gpm
Version: 1.19.6-22
Severity: normal

Gpm can currently not be cross compiled. It compiles fine, but builds a
native package. This later makes other builds fail. Work is being done
upstream and is already in the git archive. It doesn't compile, though.
In the meantime please add a check if crosscompilation is attempted and
in that case fail.

Thanks, Jonas

Bug#384831: glibc cannot be cross compiled with dpkg-buildpackage provided by dpkg-cross

2006-08-26 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: dpkg-cross
Version: 1.30
Severity: normal

After 2 days of trying to figure out how my toolchain is broken I
finally figured out that using dpkg-buildpackage.orig to cross build
glibc works just fine. Whenever I used the one from dpkg-cross It would
fail while configuring telling me my kernel headers were to old.

Bug#384694: it would be nice if dpkg-checkbuilddeps could check for cross build dependencies

2006-08-25 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.13.22
Severity: wishlist

When building debian packages for a different architecture with the help
of dpkg-cross there is no way, that I know of, to easily know if all
necessary crossdependencies are met. I'd love to see a -a option to
dpkg-checkbuilddeps so that for example dpkg-checkbuilddeps -aarm would
give a list of libraries and headers that should be installed using
dpkg-cross. if the output contained all dependencies it was still
extremely useful.

sorry for the inconvenience and please close this and #383213.
Thanks Jonas.

Bug#361019: it works almost fine

2006-08-15 Thread Jonas Meyer
rpcinfo -p always works on localhost as portmap accepts all connections
from localhost. this and something else should be added to the
manpage,though.from the README:
In order to avoid deadlocks, the portmap program does not attempt to
look up the remote host name or user name, nor will it try to match NIS
netgroups. The upshot of all this is that only network number patterns
will work for portmap access control.
this means that only ip address matching works in hosts.allow. no
network name matching.

Bug#383204: portmap can use numerical notation in hosts.allow only

2006-08-15 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: portmap
Version: 5-20
Severity: wishlist

this is related to bug #361019
it would be very nice to have it just work as one would expect from the
hosts.allow manual page.
from the README of portmap:
In order to avoid deadlocks, the portmap program does not attempt to
look up the remote host name or user name, nor will it try to match NIS
netgroups. The upshot of all this is that only network number patterns
will work for portmap access control.

what kind of deadlocks are meant there? the very same that would deny
access to other rpc services anyways? if that is the case i don't see
why that would be a problem. imho it is the admins responsibility that
the necessary hostname lookups actually work.

regards, Jonas

packages libccscript-dev and libccaudio-dev putting their headers in the
wrong directory. for libccaudio-dev the bug is #383213. the very same
applies to libccscript-dev.

Comments/Problems:
the partitioner cannot be used to do anything with the md devices.
everything you try to assign to it like a filesystem or a physical
volume for lvm tries to use md0p1 or md1p1. this is nonsense as md
devives are not to be partitioned.

also the etch netboot images for i386 seem to be all broken. I could
get the sarge netboot to work without problems. the etch ones didn't
work at all. in one case init not found - the other an io error for
/lib/libc.6.so

Bug#366650: glibc: [sh3] init script is not in libc-bin

2006-05-09 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: glibc
Severity: important

The package libc-bin cannot be installed on sh3 because the install scripts
try to execute /etc/init.d/glibc.sh, which is missing.
Version is 2.3.999.1

Bug#365139: dpkg-cross: should depend on binutils-multiarch instead of binutils

2006-04-28 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: dpkg-cross
Version: 1.26
Severity: normal

binutils cannot be used for cross compiling while binutils-multiarch work just
fine for me - so the dependency should be
changed from binutils to binutils-multiarch.

Bug#365139: dpkg-cross: the real bug could be different

2006-04-28 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: dpkg-cross
Version: 1.26
Followup-For: Bug #365139

after some discussion on irc about this i'm not sure wether using
binutils-multiarch is the right solution. It could
well be that the right solution is to make the use of the toolchains binutils
actually work. which in my case for sh3
doesn't work. dh_strip failed because it always tried using /usr/bin/strip.

Bug#350346: ide drives can only be used with devfs

2006-01-28 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: cdrw-taper
Version: 0.3-4.1

I cant get cdrw-taper to work. with ide-scsi its a bit better. i assume this is
the cause:
# Regexp for CD-RW devices
$CD_DEVICE_RE = /dev/s(cd|g)\\d+:?.*;
# For devfs
# $CD_DEVICE_RE =
^/dev/(ide|scsi)/host\\d/bus\\d/target\\d/lun\\d/(cd|generic):;

please change the regexp to fit ide devices, too.
thanks Jonas
