This is more that a minor nuisance. It also affects LXDE and (I think)
every other Desktop Environment except KDE. Please get all that
unnecessary Gnome stuff out of the dependencies.

Confirmed. This broke in testing from an upgrade sometime in April '06
I think it worked at the beginning of the month, it definitely worked
fine most or all of March.
The package is completely useless at this point--behaves exactly as
described in the original posting.

MEPIS is a founding member of the Debian Core Consortium and uses the
Debian pool for everything available, except the installer.
SimplyMEPIS *is* Etch with a Sid item or two added (primarily Firefox).
