Bug#826148: systemd looses track of service status after it was restarted by monit.
1) monit doesn't support systemd. If you are ready to support this package for systemd - please do. I just use monit on a Debian system with its default init system. I would expect monit to work on such a system. If it does not, this should be noted in the documentation and also probably declare appropriate dependencies (e.g. to require certain init system or conflict systemd) in the package meta information. Not sure whether I missed something in this direction. I already proposed a solution that could work on all systems in my initial email. 2) "This is not the case when used via monit." - and why it's the monit problem, but not systemd*? I think that this issue could be handled better on the monit side, but feel free to forward this to the systemd maintainers. I consider the compatibility approach for /etc/init.d (sysvinit) by systemd very hackish and thus I would prefer a more general solution to control services. According to https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Incompatibilities/ calling init scripts directly is also discouraged by LSB. stretch contains the essential package init-system-helpers for this. 3) I would suggest calling the "service". - I was already suggested before. The reason for using more low-level instruments is that this prevents from using service dependencies from LSB headers. If you use monit - probably it does make sense to use also it to handle dependencies. At least, by default. See also https://bugs.debian.org/791667, where it was discussed. I'm open to reconsider this, but please avoid using systemd in your argumentation. I was talking about using the /usr/sbin/service binary. In #791667 as far as I can see only invoke-rc.d was suggested. I agree, that maintainer script requirements may not apply to the monit configuration, but would strongly encourage you to consider a more general solution for controlling services. /usr/sbin/service as well as invoke-rc.d (maybe event with --force) seem to be alternatives worth considering.

Bug#822574: SPOOLSS_ENUMPRINTERS fails with certain printer names
Package: samba Dear Samba maintainers, I am experiencing problems with RPC printer management (SPOOLSS_ENUMPRINTERS ) with certain printer names. It looks like the problem is caused if the printer name contains an umlaut (non-ASCII character) as the 23rd character. Thus aaä causes problems, while aä and aaaä work(*). I tried dozens other examples that lead me to track down and limit the problem as described above. The problem is observed while using setdriver on the mentioned printer with rpcclient or acessing the "Remote Printers" view on Windows 7 - the window is blank then and no printers are displayed at all. Bug#744304: Fix
Hi, I agree that upgrading to Jessie and thus switching to systemd results in a BC break for RESOLVCONF=yes in /etc/default/bind9. Proper migration should be ensured by Debian package scripts by enabling bind9-resolvconf service for RESOLVCONF=yes. I am surprised that a two year old bug that already has the fix in its description did not get fixed for Jessie. For upgrade-safe local fixes I would suggest placing a drop-in for systemd in /etc/systemd/system/bind9-resolvconf.service.d/fix-744304.conf # systemd drop-in for bind9-resolvconf.service # Fix for https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=744304 # [Service] RemainAfterExit=yes -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Mario Lipinski IServ GmbH Bültenweg 73 38106 Braunschweig Telefon: 0531-2243666-0 Fax: 0531-2243666-9 E-Mail:i...@iserv.eu Internet: iserv.eu USt-IdNr. Bug#783235: Installation Guide link in 3.1.2. Automated installation points to Wheezy documentation
Thanks, Which title are you referring to? The installation guide links? If so: The source includes a name for the link, which is unrelated to the current title of the section or/and the target (except if they happen to match by accident, but it does not seem to be the case). In the display on the website, the link (a class=ulink href=https://www.debian.org/releases/wheezy/installmanual; target=_top) has no title and thus inherits the title from the section container (div class=section title=3.1.2.nbsp;Automated installation). My user agent displays this when hovering the section (and also the link). The behavior is correct, although it confuses me. Bug#783252: Document samba changes in regard to serving executable files to Windows clients
Package: release-notes Hi, Jessie will release with Samba 4 containing lots of changes. While the default configuration will be mostly backwards compatible I belief the following change noteworthy in the release notes: Windows may ask to open a file for execution. While with Samba 3 this was implied by the user being allowed to read the file, Samba 4 evaluates the unix executable bit and rejects such open a file for execution requests if the executable bit is not set. This will e.g. lead to netlogon scripts to be silently ignored by Windows clients if no executable bit is set and also execution of other executables and scripts is rejected if the unix executable bit is not set on the files. Since this caused quite some hard time for me to figure out I would consider it noteworthy in the release notes. I like your ideas there. To me it seems like the INBOX/SNORT folder is a clue. Do you have a folder called INBOX/SNORT? If so, either the folder itself is the problem, or a message in there. Maybe you can move all the messages, and maybe also the folder somewhere else. Once you see a change, you can start moving messages one by one, two by two or whatever you like until we've pinpointed the problematic message/folder. Yes. I got a INBOX/SNORT folder. But i got a file tempuid-4630a0de-0 in INBOX/Spam in the evolution storage. Or do i get on the wrong track here? How should i move things? In the evolution home directory? Or on the IMAP server? Bug#385211: grdesktop: SSH tunnel options does not work as expected.
Package: grdesktop Version: 0.23-2+b1 Severity: normal When using the ssh tunnel option the rdesktop command is executed on the remote host via ssh and displayed via x forward on the local host. I would expect this option to work another way. I'd like to have ssh executed for building up an ssh tunnel for forwarding the port. When the ssh connection is established rdesktop localhost:$port is executed. For this X forwarding does not need to be enabled on the server or the client and you don't need X libs on the server, which are usually not installed on a gateway server in a network where one might ssh to. I get errors saying it could not open the display. Thatlike problems whould disapper when using a ssh tcp-port-tunnel. OK. I should have read more carefully. /etc/courier/imapd says: ##NAME: IMAP_ULIMITD:0 # # IMAP_ULIMITD sets the maximum size of the data segment of the server # process. The value of IMAP_ULIMITD is simply passed to the ulimit -d # command (or ulimit -v). The argument to ulimi sets the upper limit on the # size of the data segment of the server process, in kilobytes. The default # value of 65536 sets a very generous limit of 64 megabytes, which should # be more than plenty for anyone. # # This feature is used as an additional safety check that should stop # any potential denial-of-service attacks that exploit any kind of # a memory leak to exhaust all the available memory on the server. # It is theoretically possible that obscenely huge folders will also # result in the server running out of memory when doing server-side # sorting (by my calculations you have to have at least 100,000 messages # in a single folder, for that to happen). IMAP_ULIMITD=65536 So -v should be OK. /etc/courier/courier-imap-ssl uses -d. So I thought the error was there. However since it works with -d the error has to do something with the effects of ulimit. Package: gdm Version: 2.14.5-1 Followup-For: Bug #361090 it does not work here either. /etc/default/locales: # File generated by update-locale LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en When logging in and selecting System Default my GNOME is in english language. When selecting de_DE.UTF-8 everything works fine. So here needs to be really a bug in GDM. The ENV var even is not set when logging in with a failsafe term. Please fix this. Bug#356088: samba: package talloc as a separate library
Hello, Am Donnerstag, den 09.03.2006, 14:02 -0800 schrieb Steve Langasek: talloc, the hierarchical pool based memory allocator used in samba is also used by other free software (like xenstore). It might be a good idea to strip it out from the samba source, create a libtalloc package and let samba/xenstore depend on it. The library can also be used standalone by others wanting to use the talloc allocator. No, I'm not going to mangle the Samba packages to break out a library that isn't supported by upstream for such use. I agree doing this in debian only is not the right way. However, I guess talloc is thought to be a library used out of samba. See http://talloc.samba.org/ I think if there is any need for the talloc lib so might package it... Bug#330184: [patch] patched against wrong upstream version
Hello, i hat a closer look into it and found out that the patch is against svn and not 2.9.18 where it has been applied. The main difference i think is in tcpreceiver.cc (a diff is included). I used the following code to reproduce the error: #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; getgrnam('test'); # might be exchanged by 'getpwnam' print 1; The print 1; seems neccessary - dont ask me why... I can produce any information you like if you just tell me how. I am not very experienced in software development. So can not tell exactly tell you what is wrong. Anything i know is summed up in this bug. A lot of code is calling these functions, so it is clearly not an obvious bug. Otherwise everything would blow up. Well for me it is quite obvious. Same problem i experienced with munin-node from munin (a tool for graphing load stats and similar). So i could not use it. For upgrading the server i could have commented mysql out from /etc/nsswitch.conf. Wasn't nice but worked in my environment quite stable. But i think this really needs to be fixed. So i provide my forces limited by my competence to solve this. Iirc i already mailed the adduser and the libnss-mysql developer about this along time ago. But iirc without a result because of knowing to few about what happened. -- Mario Lipinski VOIP: +49 511 696045510 SystemadministrationFax: +49 721 151-207196 Gymnasium Salzgitter-BadE-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Internet: http://www.gymszbad.de -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#291014: debmirror: dists/woody/updates/Contents-i386.gz failed md5sum check
Hello, i removed the --getcontents switch and debmirror runs fine. But the mirror does not work then. Error: Failed to fetch ftp://server/debian-security/dists/testing/updates/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Unable to fetch file, server said 'Can't open /debian-security/dists/testing/updates/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz: No such file or directory ' Can i make debmirror somehow to fetch the Packages without a Contents file? Mirroring debian-security worked some time ago. I don't know whether debmirror or security.debian.org changed. Bug#291135: postfix: Postfix rejects mails as backup mx in nat environment
Package: postfix Version: 2.1.5-4 Severity: normal We are using postfix in a nat environment. We are using reciepient resitriction: permit_mx_backup and have permit_mx_backup_hosts defined. If postifx gets a rcpt to for a backup address it fails. Postfix fails at the point where dns lookups are made and the ip got as secondary mx isnt found (not in list of ips obtained from interfaces) though mail is bounced with 554 error. proxy_interfaces is defined with external nat ip, but not recognized there.
