Bug#926333: PCRE2 support

2020-03-14 Thread Martin Renold
I'd also like PCRE2 to be enabled. Stumbled over it because emacs/ivy's code
search used the "--pcre2" switch without checking whether it was available.

Upstream provides .deb packages that have it enabled, statically linked it
seems:
https://github.com/BurntSushi/ripgrep/blob/master/ci/build_deb.sh#L41-L43

When building manually I had to use 'cargo build --features pcre2 --release'

Quote README:
* ripgrep has optional support for switching its regex engine to use PCRE2.
Among other things, this makes it possible to use look-around and
backreferences in your patterns, which are not supported in ripgrep's default
regex engine. PCRE2 support can be enabled with `-P/--pcre2` (use PCRE2
always) or `--auto-hybrid-regex` (use PCRE2 only if needed).

Bug#762921: linux-image-3.17-rc5-amd64: Kernel netfilter modules lack NAT support

2014-09-26 Thread Martin Renold
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.17~rc5-1~exp1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

This kernel does not have IP NAT support configured, making it useles for
most home router setups.

# iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
iptables v1.4.21: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist

# grep CONFIG_IP_NF_NAT /boot/config-3.17-rc5-amd64
# CONFIG_IP_NF_NAT is not set

This enables the `nat' table in iptables. This allows masquerading,
port forwarding and other forms of full Network Address Port
   Translation.

It seems that the required .config options for NAT have shifted around
recently in the kernel.

Bug#759508: mypaint: Mypaint does not ask confirmation for 'new' and silently drops current unsaved work

2014-08-28 Thread Martin Renold
MyPaint *does* ask for confirmation. But but depending on the version, you
need to have done at least 1 second (new versions) to 30 seconds (old
versions) worth of actual painting.

Also, if you hit Backspace accidentally, it will clear the current layer.
You can undo this, and if you don't, MyPaint will ask before you quit.

Please open a bugreport at https://github.com/mypaint/mypaint/issues if you
actually did manage to discard more than 60 seconds of work that way,
ideally with steps how to reproduce.

I think this is a bug. Mypaint should or ask confirmation to replace unsaved

 Steps to reproduce:
 1. Start drawing something beautiful, spend half of hour of work
 2. Accidentially press Ctrl-N
 3. Feel frustration

Bug#557156: wicd deconfigures the wired (eth0) interface at suspend or cable unplugged

2012-09-30 Thread Martin Renold
I also ran into this one.

On Wed, May 23, 2012 at 02:14:03AM +0200, Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña wrote:

A mistake here: wicd was pulled in because I installed the xfce-desktop
task, not because of Network Manager.

I think that's how I installed wicd, too. I have never configured wicd and
don't use it (my PC doesn't have wireless connections at all).

Still, I've always managed my interfaces using /etc/network/interfaces and
have *never* configured them using wicd.

Similar story: I have two wired interfaces: eth0 for my internet provider
and eth1 with a static IP, configured via /etc/network/interfaces. I run a
DHCP server on eth1 where I connect my laptop for internet access.

What happened:

Whenever I disconnected my laptop, wicd did run dhclient on eth1. Probably
as a result, the static IP on eth1 was un-configured. Dhclient did exit
again, realizing that the interface was down.

Sometimes the local dhcp server even decided to answer the local dhcp
client's request, giving itself a new IP from its own pool, and a new
default route to the internet which did not work. I had to kill the extra
dhcp client started by wicd to fix this situation (not realizing how it
happened, of course).

Please take note that it took me quite a lot of debugging of the pm-suspend
scripts until I found out that the reason why my interfaces were reconfigured
 was because of wicd.

Indeed, it took me quite some time to figure this out. After blaming several
other components (like NetworkManager), I finally traced it to wicd when I
replaced
/sbin/dhclient with a script that prints the PID of the parent process.

Solved now with 'apt-get remove wicd-daemon'.

Bug#685254: mypaint: Two options with different meaning but same name [Russian]

 Dear Maintainer,
In mypaint options dialog there is two options to hide menus from screen in
 fullscreen mode.

One of them hide horizontal menu, and second is hiding floating dialogs (like
 brush selection).

Both of them are named identically in Russian localization: Скрывать панель
 инструментов (hide instrumental panel).

I think first one should be named Скрывать горизонтальную панель (hide
horizontal panel) and second Скрывать диалоги (hide dialogs) - that
translation is not exact, but really distinct one from other.

 1. MyPaint does not ship with a mime-info entry for OpenRaster

I was wondering whether MyPaint should really have this mime? Anyway, there
is one in the source in desktop/mime/mypaint.xml. And Krita also has one,
not sure if it gets installed, but it's probably somewhat different.

Wouldn't there be conflicts if more than one application installs this?

 2. Since the package is targeted at artists and visually-thinking
people, it'd be really nice to have a thumbnailer for the most
 common desktop environments :)

I fully agree. The thing (if I'm up-to-date) is that we haven't figured out
yet whom to ask to integrate those thumbnailers into which project.

Perhaps a new package for openraster desktop support could be
created for these two issues together?

and it certainly wouldn't be something limited to just MyPaint: Krita
(SVN), Drawpile, and GIMP (via the unofficial ORA loader/saver plugin)
would all benefit. Initially it could live in the mypaint package I
suppose, since mypaint is the program which would most immediately
 benefit.

I was planning to move thumbnailers and mime stuff also into the oratools
repository (where the GIMP plugin is), away from the mypaint source, until
the respective desktop environments take over maintainence. Do you think
this should grow into its own independent project instead, for distributions
to package?

There is a warning as it starts up:

Bug#342738: rxvt-unicode-lite: utmp problem

2005-12-09 Thread Martin Renold
Package: rxvt-unicode-lite
Version: 5.8-1
Severity: normal

Urxvt does not get system messages (talk requests ;) while xterm does.

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1023204 2005-10-26 16:31 /usr/bin/urxvt
-rwxr-sr-x 1 root utmp 264992 2005-09-08 08:53 /usr/bin/X11/xterm
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root utmp 5760 2005-12-10 00:30 /var/run/utmp

Chown + chmod to the same permissions as xterm helps.

Maybe same problem for urxvt. This should work by default I think?

bye,
Martin
