Bug#947957: O: hexxagon -- Hexagonal Ataxx clone
Package: wnpp Severity: normal This GTK game is still fun to play and Popcon suggests it is even in use. Lintian warnings on it mainly because I did not update it in ages. There is a new upstream, and my guess is the new upstream fixes exactly the same bugs as the diff in this Debian package did. Upstream is also virtually dead, so if anyone picks this up, it will take minimal effort to maintain. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#947623: O: lgrind -- A LaTeX pretty printer for various programming languages
Package: wnpp Severity: normal This program should be mostly obsolete by now – listings.sty is a much better alternative these days. Popcon counts 36 installations and it’s non-free (note that I’m upstream myself and cannot do anything about it). Perhaps it should be removed from Debian altogether. However, it still builds fine (albeit with 12 Lintian warnings). signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#491090: kimwitu++: missing build dep
Martin Koeppe schrieb: Attached you find the log from sbuild. Maybe you see the problem immediately from that. I don't have more details currently, as the unpacked source has already been deleted automatically. The log looks very innocent to me, up to the point were bison is called. It should not, however, since the bison results in the distribution are newer than the bison source. One thing that can possibly go wrong is the preservation of attributes in the »cp -p« call. Assuming that it does not work, the copy order makes the source newer than the product. That should be fixable by swapping lines 199 and 200 with 201 and 202 in the Makefile. Bug#491090: kimwitu++: missing build dep
kimwitu++ should build-dep on bison, as it uses it during build. No, it doesn’t normally. Apart from src/kimwy.y, Kimwitu++ comes with src/Gen.boot/kimwy.{cc,h,output}, all of which are 5 minutes younger than their source. Bison is not called if you did not touch anything. I not only proved it, I actually tried it. Please have a close look on the environment that you used and that caused the build process to call Bison. If you can reproduce it, I want to find a way to fix it (without the build-dep). Bye, Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I believe the package to be in pretty good shape, even if the bug count suggests otherwise; most bugs are requests for the addition of new entries in the magic database and are not that urgent. The package description is: File tests each argument in an attempt to classify it. There are three sets of tests, performed in this order: filesystem tests, magic number tests, and language tests. Bug#295209: Why not package new upstream ?
Is it because swi-prolog needs to be installed to be able to compile the packages ? Yes. Parts of swi-prolog are written in Prolog itself. That is not too surprising, it is just a set of standard libraries. Unfortunately, upstream just made one large package. During the make process, it installs the base system in order to compile the libraries, which are then installed. In Debian, the build must be finished completely before installation. So either the standard libraries become compiled during installation on the users machine, or the Debian build process uses the half-installed-into-a-temporary-directory version of swi-prolog to compile the libraries, which is a major pain as a lot of paths and other variables have to be set. -- |=| Michael Piefel |=| Member of the Debian project -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#361076: libfreetype6: Too much kerning
Package: libfreetype6 Version: 2.1.10-3 Severity: normal Recently, though I cannot say exactly when, at least a few days, at most a few weeks, kerning with some fonts is too strong. I have prepared a screenshot using Calibri. This is from a GTK menu, so I assume it really is a freetype issue. Note that a ‘T’ and a following letter are very close, but still acceptable, while the capital letters are too close or even touch. Other fonts exhibiting this behaviour are Minion Pro and Myriad Pro, but neither Cambria nor Chaparral Pro, so it is neither a ‘Pro’ problem nor a problem with OpenType fonts in general (all of the above-mentioned are OpenType, some of PostScript flavour, some of TrueType flavour). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-686-smp Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages libfreetype6 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-5GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii zlib1g1:1.2.3-11 compression library - runtime libfreetype6 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information
Bug#361078: libfreetype6: Too many ligatures
Package: libfreetype6 Version: 2.1.10-3 Severity: minor Freetype seems to use all the ligatures it can find. This seems like a good idea, but wrong use of ligatures is worse than none at all. There are some places where ligatures are not allowed, such as at the boundaries of words in compounds: ‘Auflage’ (sorry, German example, in English ‘Edition’) is a compound of ‘auf’ and ‘Lage’, and fl is wrong here. Similarly, freetype even uses the st-ligature in some fonts, such as freeserif. While this is not wrong in most cases, it looks rather funny for most readers. Discretionary ligatures should be left to special occasions. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-686-smp Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages libfreetype6 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-5GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii zlib1g1:1.2.3-11 compression library - runtime libfreetype6 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information

Just try both of these lines with an ‘echo’ in front of them: The tilde is not expanded by file, but by the shell, and only when it is the first element. I think file should work without error when providing a *search* path with at least ine existing *.mime file. The only *.mime file in one of the examples above was empty. Indeed file then issues an error message that is misleading, though one could argue that an empty file is not a ‘magic file’ at all. It would be nice if file would identify MS Word files as application/ms-word. I agree, but that is an entirely different problem. I have to add that the bug has disappeared now. Perhaps you might want to tag it user-error but leave it open as a bad example to others. What happened? 1. A bug somewhere in my TeX installation (which I am going to file a separate report about) made me try to start fresh. I purged tetex-base (and all the other packages depending on it in endless dselect dependency resolution screens). 2. The directory /etc/texmf was still populated. I decided that tetex had left cruft behind and removed it. 3. I tried to install tetex-base again. That was when the problem appeared. The mistake, of course, was step 2. Solution was another purging, this time I included tex-common, of which I had just learnt (because update-languages is in it), followed by another install. It appears that the purging of tetex should at some point have at least hinted at the existence of tex-common. Bug#333717: libmagic1: Library package contains soversion independent files
Am Donnerstag, den 13.10.2005, 09:32 +0200 schrieb Goswin Brederlow: the libmagic1 package contains magic files in /usr/share/misc/file that will cause a future libmagic2 to conflict with libmagic1 preventing a clean transition. How do you know what the files will be called in libmagic2? This also prevents clean multiarch packages from working. I don’t understand. Please split the architecture independent data files out of the library package to facilitate future compatibility. How will that help? How will a split prevent the file name clash? Bug#323957: dpkg: [INTL] Long messages make translation hard in case of changes
Package: dpkg Version: 1.13.11 Severity: normal Tags: l10n Once again, I see that src/main.c:58 has been marked as fuzzy. Why? Perhaps a spelling mistake was corrected, and the translation remains unaffected; perhaps an option radically changed its meaning. To know, I have to either compare the new message to the old or compare the whole message to its translations. Both are difficult for long messages. Please consider splitting the very long messages, that’s mainly the usage text. Of course, the one-screen messages in dselect/helpmsgs.cc shouldn’t be split, as it is important to keep them to screen-size. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-686 Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages dpkg depends on: ii coreutils [textutils] 5.2.1-2The GNU core utilities ii libc6 2.3.5-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries an dpkg recommends no packages. -- no debconf information
