Bug#992280: hdmi doesn't help

2021-08-30 Thread Mike Perrin
I was wondering if the VGA connection might be part of the problem so I
tried booting the netinstall iso with the monitor connected through the
HDMI port. The result was identical to VGA: the selection screen
appeared perfectly but both the graphical and text install options
produced a shredded display at 1920x1200.

Bug#992280: cdrom: Debian 11 installer fails to produce usable display

2021-08-17 Thread Mike Perrin

Cyril,

I may have a clue as to what is going on. I tried booting Clonezilla
Live at 800x600 resolution and got a similar shredded raster image as
with the Debian installer. Then I booted Clonezilla with the 1024x768
option and the display was perfect.

Bug#992280: cdrom: Debian 11 installer fails to produce usable display

2021-08-16 Thread Mike Perrin

Cyril,

Out of curiosity I downloaded the 10.10.0 netinst.iso and tried it on my
system. It produced the same results as 11.0.0, the installation display
was shredded. I had installed 10.0 on that machine when it was released
with no problems but was using a Samsung 204T 1600x1200 monitor at the
time. It seems there is something wonky (or at least uncooperative)
about my NEC monitor.

Cyril,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I had read those pages and was using the firmware-11.0.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
and firmware-11.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso images. But I was unable to even
begin using the installer. Attached are photos of the DVD-1 boot screen
and resulting displays when choosing the graphic and text install
options. The results with the netinstall iso were identical.

I was able to install 11.0.0 using the debian-live-xfce+nonfree iso and
the installed system works just fine with my NEC monitor.

I tried using the i386-netinst.iso to load 11.0.0 on an ALIX 1C Geode
embedded board. My NEC monitor refused to display giving me a "VGA out
of range" message. When I tried an Acer AL1717 1280x1024 monitor the
netinstall came up perfectly.

Bug#992279: debian-live (XFCE) does not recognize PS2 mouse

Dear Maintainer,

Attempted to install Debian 11.0.0 from XFCE live DVD on AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
ASRock A320M-HDV mainboard. Live system booted but PS2 mouse was not
recognized. PS2 keyboard was OK. Connecting the PS2 keyboard and mouse
through a PS2 to USB adapter solved the problem. Afterwards, the PS2
mouse port was usable on the installed system.
