Seems to me that the answer is to package the latest release 1.9.22.
That won't help the wheezy freeze though :(

I'm having an issue (on debian wheezy) getting a previously stable application
to connect to mysql.
I get this error thrown.
_mysql_exceptions.NotSupportedError: client library does not have SSL
ok.. I looked into the code which connects.
this code used to work.
