Bug#1054896: libasound2: alsa 1.2.10-1 segfaults on i386
Package: libasound2 Version: 1.2.10-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, Since update of the alsa packages libasound2 libasound2-data alsa-utils libatopology2 from v1.2.9-1 to v1.2.10-1 all sound programs fail with a segfault (see typical output below.) This happens reproducibly on four different i386 computers (this Thinkpad T420, two older Thinkpads T41, and an old PC). I cannot tell if any other architecture is affected. Downgrading of the four packages to v1.2.9-1 solves the problem. Typical output: ~ > play /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav Segmentation fault ~ > aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav Segmentation fault ~ > play /usr/share/javascript/mathjax/unpacked/extensions/a11y/invalid_keypress.mp3 Segmentation fault ~ > aplay /usr/share/javascript/mathjax/unpacked/extensions/a11y/invalid_keypress.mp3 Segmentation fault ~ > mpg123 /usr/share/javascript/mathjax/unpacked/extensions/a11y/invalid_keypress.mp3 High Performance MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 Audio Player for Layers 1, 2 and 3 version 1.32.3; written and copyright by Michael Hipp and others free software (LGPL) without any warranty but with best wishes Segmentation fault ~ > mocp Running the server... Bug#995565: linux-image-5.14.0-1-686: Does not boot successfully on old T41 Thinkpads (I/O problem?)
This bug does _not_ persist with linux-image-5.14.0-2-686, with which both T41 Thinkpads boot normally again. This bugreport can therefore be marked as closed. Thank you very much! P. R.-P.
Bug#995565: linux-image-5.14.0-1-686: Does not boot successfully on old T41 Thinkpads (I/O problem?)
Package: src:linux Version: 5.14.6-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainers, This happens reproducibly on two old IBM T41 Thinkpads: When booting this new kernel image, video output stops at: [OK] Listening on Control Socket. [OK] Listening on udev Kernel Socket. Mounting Huge Pages File System... Mounting POSIX Message Queue File System... After this, hard disk activity goes on for a while; I can even hear a sound effect produced by my /etc/rc.local playing a .wav file with /usr/bin/play . No keyboard input has any effect whatsoever. (Please mind that this bug report has been produced with one of these Thinkpads, but using linux-image-5.10.0-8-686, which works flawlessly.) Kind regards, P.
