Bug#932651: logwatch: EXIM "AUTH command used when not advertised" spams logwatch output, upstream fix available

2019-07-21 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: logwatch
Version: 7.5.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

the daily logwatch e-mails from my server are quite long due to a list of
entries like this:

"Didn't Summarize: 2019-07-19 04:34:22 SMTP protocol error in "AUTH LOGIN"
H=(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) [yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy] AUTH command used when not advertised"

I would expect this error to be summarized.
In fact, this has been implemented upstream already:
https://sourceforge.net/p/logwatch/git/ci/0963070e1234065a3b08ff02173de12ec21fd67a/#diff-1

By replaing /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/exim with the newest version
from upstream
https://sourceforge.net/p/logwatch/git/ci/master/tree/scripts/services/exim the
problem is solved:

 --- SMTP Connection Issues
AUTH command used when not advertised: 236 Time(s)

Please consider adding this change to the next official debian package version
of logwatch.

Regards

Richard

Bug#855539: logwatch: Excessive unmatched entries in SSHD section of logwatch

2017-02-19 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: logwatch
Version: 7.4.3+git20161207-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

upgrading from Debian jessie to stretch results in excessive unmatched entries
in the SSHD section of logwatch output.

Example:

Failed logins from:
normal number (e.g. 12) of lines in the format: IP-address (Hostname): X times

Illegal users from:
normal number (e.g. 6) of lines in the format: IP-address (Hostname): X times

Received disconnect:
 [preauth] : 1357 Time(s)
Bye Bye [preauth] : 24 Time(s)
Closed due to user request. [preauth] : 22 Time(s)
disconnected by user [preauth] : 1 Time(s)

**Unmatched Entries**
hundreds/thousands of lines like this:
Disconnected from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX port XX [preauth] : 1 time(s)

This seems to be due to missing backports of upstream fixes for new SSHD log
file format, see also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/logwatch/+bug/1644057

Expected: only summary in "Received disconnect", limited number of "unmatched
entries"

Bug#754934: fuse: Transport endpoint is not connected

2014-07-16 Thread Richard Scherping

Package: fuse
Version: 2.9.0-2+deb7u1
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

running a VM from a disk image on a ntfs-3g partition made this
partition crash with Transport endpoint is not connected yesterday.
This is caused by a well-known bug in fuse 2.9.0 which is fixed in
2.9.2: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fuse/+bug/1072270

This problem already happened earlier to me (in March 2014), but at that
time I was able to use fuse2 and libfuse2 2.9.2 from Testing. That is no
longer possible, as testing now uses 2.9.3 and requires a newer libc6.
Consequently, I cannot use my VM on Debian stable now.

Please, either backport the fix from 2.9.2 to stable or document a way
to replace the buggy 2.9.0 version with 2.9.2 in Wheezy. Thanks!

Bug#746252: gnome-control-center: Same here: displays gui: can not select any monitor

2014-05-03 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:3.8.3-7
Followup-For: Bug #746252

Dear Maintainer,

since quite a long time, I am not able to use the displays GUI on my Debian
system with Gnome 3.x - the bug was present in Wheezy and now still is in
Jessie/Sid.

Step to reproduce: Open the displays GUI on my system with multiple monitors.
Cannot select any monitor. The one I started gnome-control-center from is
selected.

I tried deleteing .config/monitors.xml - no change.

Please try to fix this annoying bug, which forces me to use xrandr console to
configure my monitors.

Bug#696655: apt-show-versions lacks multiarch support

2012-12-25 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: apt-show-versions
Version: 0.20
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

apt-show-versions always has been a great tool to check for old packages that
were still installed but no longer in the repos. However, since the
introduction of mulitarch, it does not recognize installed multiarch packages
correctly.
Example:

richard@huron:~$ apt-show-versions | grep ia32
ia32-libs-gtk/wheezy uptodate 1:0.1
ia32-libs-gtk-i386 1:0.1 installed: No available version in archive
ia32-libs-i386 1:0.4 installed: No available version in archive
nvidia-libopencl1-ia32/wheezy uptodate 304.48-1
richard@huron:~$ apt-cache policy ia32-libs-gtk
ia32-libs-gtk:
  Installiert: 1:0.1
  Installationskandidat: 1:0.1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 1:0.1 0
900 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main amd64 Packages
101 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
richard@huron:~$ apt-cache policy ia32-libs-gtk-i386

This should be fixed IMHO...

Bug#683993: sweethome3d crashes with java-6-openjdk-amd64, works with java-6-sun

2012-08-06 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: sweethome3d
Version: 3.5+dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

crashes at startup. Switching Java from openjdk-6-jre 6b24-1.11.3-2 to sun-

java6-jre is not in Debian repos anymore, sweethome3d seems to be broken.

Richard, I think you just didn't edit your munin.conf to add cgitmpdir
as described in a NEWS file.

Anyway, I also feel it should work out of the box, so i already fixed
it upstream.

So could your apply http://munin-monitoring.org/changeset/4896 ?

Could you please provide the contents of /etc/munin/munin.conf (and any
files it includes?).

You do not need to include the node definitions (hostnames and
addresses)

Bug#662856: pitivi: Same problem here with H264 video

2012-04-22 Thread Richard Scherping

Package: pitivi
Version: 0.15.0-1
Followup-For: Bug #662856

Dear Maintainer,

I am encountering very similar symptoms (waveform works, but no thumbnails
and stalled rendering) once I add a video from my Canon Ixus 100 camera.
These videos are .MOV with H264 720p30 video and Mono 44.1 kHz PCM audio.

Recoding the audio part and/or remuxing to .MP4 or .AVI (with Avidemux) did
not help. Recoding the video might help, but this should not be necessary
IMHO...

Regards,

Richard

Bug#483986: iceweasel: produces unreadable text when printing

With many websites, printing with iceweasel 3.0 (tested with b5 and rc1
debian experimental releases) produces unreadable, extremely low-res text
output, often including multiple characters on top of each other.

Example sites:
http://www.hr-online.de/
http://www.e-fellows.net/
http://go6.net/ (extremely bad)

My printer driver is:
Canon PIXMA iP4000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2

Both old iceweasel (2.x) and epiphany are fine.

Did printing in these condition get any better with iceweasel 3.5 ?

Cheers,

Mike

No problems, even without having the fonts from ttf-mscorefonts-installer
installed, with iceweasel 3.0.6-3 (Lenny) and 3.5.6-2 (Squeeze/Sid) here. IMHO
this can be marked as fixed. Thanks!

Richard

Bug#534799: cups problem

2009-06-27 Thread Richard Scherping
It seems this is not a ghostscript, but cups problem.
Package cups should depend on ghostscript-cups, as that package now contains
the files in question.
Unfortunately, printing does not work after installing ghostscript-cups, though
- but that is another bug...

Bug#513817: wpasupplicant: ad-hoc broken

2009-02-01 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 0.6.6-2
Severity: normal

I am trying to set up a WPA-enabled ad-hoc network between two Debian Lenny
boxes, one with rt73usb WiFi on 2.6.27.4, the other with iwl4965 on 2.6.28.

My wpa_supplicant config:

network={
 ssid=MySSID
 mode=1
 proto=WPA
 key_mgmt=WPA-NONE
 pairwise=NONE
 group=TKIP
 psk=MyPSK
}

Although I specified mode=1, wpa_supplicant sets the WiFi device to managed
mode and thus the connection does not work. This happens with both
wpasupplicant package 0.6.4 (lenny/sid) and 0.6.6 (experimental).

If there is any workaround, please tell me!

I understand that an experimental version of kspread might not run from a

However, a workaround would be nice. Any hints?

Please direct me to some usefull steps to resolve that issue. I do not have
the problem with a similar machine (that is running Lenny for one year now,
 never having Etch there).

This clearly looks like the result of having a b0rked ~/.gtkrc-* file.

Thanks for this hint - it really solved my issue to delete those two files.
They contained the following before:

~# cat .gtkrc-2.0
# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
include /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

include /home/richard/.gtkrc-2.0.mine

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
~# cat .gtkrc-1.2-gnome2
# Autowritten by gnome-settings-daemon. Do not edit

include /home/richard/.gtkrc.mine
~#

Those .mine files did not exist. On another system (running Lenny from the
beginning, no upgrade from Etch), there is only the .gtkrc-1.2-gnome2 file and
I have had no problems.
So maybe the upgrade process should recommend removing the .gtkrc-2.0 file?

Bug#503451: Update to the gnome-appearance-settings problem

2008-10-27 Thread Richard Scherping
The problem seems to have something to do with my user-specific settings - a
newly created user can launch gnome-appearance-settings without any problem.
Can someone direct me to a way to debug what setting this might be and how I
can fix that without deleting everything .* in my home directory?

Anyway, this seems to be an Etch-to-Lenny upgrade problem, nothing important
in Lenny's packages itself.

Bug#503451: gnome: Hang and 100 % CPU load after small appearance change

2008-10-26 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: gnome
Severity: important

Having upgraded my amd64 system from etch to lenny, I tried changing some
appearance options and this is the result:

- gnome-appearance-properties takes 100 % cpu load (one core fully loaded)
and does not load theme previews (big question mark stays there)
- changing two small options (Glanz (german) and different foreground
color) resulted in gnome-settings-daemon to take 100 % cpu load, too. This
also occured after rebooting and logging in again (without running anything
in Gnome)
- this also resulted in a gnome-settings-daemon could not be started
message when trying to launch the appearance properties
- removed .gconf and .gconfd in home folder - no longer 100 %
gnome-settings-dameon load, but of course lost all my configuration
- still having 100 % load when launching gnome-appearance-properties,
closing the window does not help, SIGTERM needed.

Hi Max!

Thanks for pointing me to the Allow pages to set their own fonts option. For
me printing works fine when I unset that option. Later I found out that the
problem can be solved by a simple aptitude install msttcorefonts - at least
for me!

Thanks again. I'll post back in a couple of days whether this really solves all

2008-06-01 Thread Richard Scherping
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0~rc1-1
Severity: normal

With many websites, printing with iceweasel 3.0 (tested with b5 and rc1
debian experimental releases) produces unreadable, extremely low-res text
output, often including multiple characters on top of each other.

Example sites:

http://go6.net/ (extremely bad)

My printer driver is:
Canon PIXMA iP4000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2
