Bug#1079395: kdenlive: Please update kdenlive to use Qt 6 / KF 6

2024-08-22 Thread Shmerl
Package: kdenlive
Version: 24.08.0-1
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: shtetldik+shm...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

Kdenlive should be usable with Qt 6 and KF 6 but latest uploaded source
still depends on Qt 5 and KF 5.

Qt 6 and KF6 are already available in unstable. Please repackage it to
use that.

Thank you!

Bug#1072887: konsole: Please package version 24.05.0 it has important features

2024-06-09 Thread Shmerl
Package: konsole
Version: 4:23.08.1-1+b1
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: shtetldik+shm...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

please package konsole 24.5.0. It has support for using resizeable tokens:

https://invent.kde.org/utilities/konsole/-/commit/1b075680f07665b300fc755766ffef7958094a20

That allows applying a well functioning patch for OSC52 support on top of it.

See:

* https://invent.kde.org/utilities/konsole/-/merge_requests/767
* https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372116

Current outdated version of konsole in Debian doesn't let it work with osc52
well
even when patched.

Thanks!

Shmerl.

Bug#1072499: vice: Provide SDL based version of vice

2024-06-02 Thread Shmerl
Package: vice
Version: 3.7.1+dfsg1-2+b3
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: shtetldik+shm...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

Vice has an option to use SDL as a backend rather than GTK.
Having that could allow running it in the Wayland session
without relying on XWayland backend, since forcing Wayland
for GTK doesn't really work for it due to it forcing X11 in
its GTK code somehow.

Please provide an SDL based variant of vice in addition to
GTK one.

Thanks!

Do you think it's worth it it to file the bug to rust
upstream too: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues
May be wider Rust developers can have an insight.
Or it's something very Debian specific?

May be for rustc? It's worth filing the bug if it's not clear what the
root cause is. If it's not really rustc, developers will point that out.

If real solution for this requires upstream involvement, may be it's worth
disabling
these tests, until upstream is actually not broken? That would at least
move things
forward, otherwise it might be stuck for who knows how long?

I don't know what's the usual recommended approach for handling such cases.

That doesn't help. New libglib2.0 is breaking a bunch of things in testing.
For example libglib2.0-bin is not co-nisntallable with a bunch of things in
KDE Plasma
and almost broke a whole installation for me. I managed to somewhat recover
it, but
for instance *packagekit* and *plasma-discover *got removed. Can you please
take a look.

Does KDE expect an older version or it's cmake not doing it right?

Bug#1063373: mc-data: modarin thin mc skins are incorrect / behind upstream modarin

2024-02-06 Thread Shmerl
Package: mc-data
Version: 3:4.8.30-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I noticed that modarin256-defbg-thin.ini, modarin256-thin.ini (and both root
variants of them)
are outdated and and also have typos which results in some interface elements
being not set.

If you compare it to upstream suppprted skins like modarin256-defbg.ini, you'll
notice differences in
these sections:

[widget-panel], [widget-scrollbar], [widget-editor].

They should simply be synced up with non thin ones, keeping only differences in
[Lines] section.

See below patch for for an example how modarin256-defbg.ini can be fixed.

Bug#924862: shaderc isn't needed

2023-11-27 Thread Shmerl
I asked mpv developers, and apparently libplacebo indeed now can handle
shader
compilation without need for shaderc. So this seems to be not even needed
at all
on Linux.

See: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/12982

Bug#924862: mpv with Vulkan without shaderc

2023-11-26 Thread Shmerl
I just noticed that mpv somehow managed to work with Vulkan without shaderc!

Here is my configuration in $HOME/.config/mpv/config

[gpu-vulkan]
vo=gpu-next
gpu-api=vulkan
hwdec=vaapi
gpu-context=waylandvk

[default]
profile=gpu-vulkan

Here is some of what I see when running with --msg-level=all=debug

[vo/gpu-next/libplacebo] Spent 0.070 ms creating pipeline
[vo/gpu-next/libplacebo] Pass statistics: size 0, SPIR-V: vert 0 frag 0

So it clearly somehow manages to compile shaders to SPIR-V without shaderc!
May be libplacebo has some built in compiler?

Just wanted to share if anyone was waiting to start using Vulkan with your
mpv.

In general, it seems these kind of issues are common for shaderc - glslang

Bug#787911: New patch

2023-05-22 Thread Shmerl
Not sure if anyone has proposed updated ways to do it, but I made a minimal
patch that implements it
with fallback to legacy config. It's not trying to move anything, just
using XDG base dir if it's a new installation
and picking legacy config if it already exists. It allows to start using it
for fresh installs and not breaking it for old
ones which is a simple temporary compromise.

See attached.

I know Wayland Qt patches are critical for stable Plasma experience,
but I'm not an expert on all of these.

May be some communication between upstream KDE developers and Debian
team would be good here? Expecting users to know what patches are important
isn't a very reliable method.

Dear Maintainer,

KDE team maintains important patchset over official Qt that has a lot of bug
fixes especially for the Wayland session use case.

May be you can switch upstream directly to KDE Qt instead of pulling it from
qt.io and then trying to add some patches?

How do you check the current version of microcode in use?

Since amd64-microcode package is so outdated in Debian, I updated microcode
files manually from
the upstream Linux firmware repo, putting them in
/usr/lib/firmware/amd-ucode. Then I ran
sudo dpkg-recoconfigure amd64-microcode hoping it will update it.

On next reboot I have the same version as before (basically what's in my
UEFI)
according to dmesg.

Doing echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/microcode/reload and checking
/proc/cpuinfo
I also don't see any change.

While they maintain their own repo with Ubuntu packages, they don't have

According to the build logs:

Bug#939536: qemu-system-data: qemu.desktop is missing Exec entry

2019-09-05 Thread Shmerl
Package: qemu-system-data
Version: 1:4.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

New qemu.desktop file provided by upstream is missing an Exec entry,
which according to the spec should be present.

See: https://specifications.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-
spec/latest/ar01s06.html

> The Exec key is required if DBusActivatable is not set to true.
> Even if DBusActivatable is true, Exec should be specified for
> compatibility with implementations that do not understand DBusActivatable.

For example, running kbuildsycoca5 which checks desktop files correctness,
produces this warning:

The desktop entry file "/usr/share/applications/qemu.desktop" has Type=
"Application" but no Exec line

I tried to submit the bug upstream, but I can't access launchpad bug tracker
used by Qemu, their log-in system is broken (at least now).

Thanks!

2019-08-25 Thread Shmerl
Source: mesa
Version: 19.2.0~rc1-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

New AMD Navi GPUs (gfx10) need llvm 9 features for amdgpu backend, so please

Bug#934834: konsole: Update konsole to latest upstream version

2019-08-15 Thread Shmerl
Package: konsole
Version: 4:18.04.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Konsole in Debian repos got quite outdated, and upstream accumulated a lot of
bug fixes
and major features like support for extended DECSCUSR escape sequences (helps
for nvim)
and proper window splitting.

See:

* https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347323
* https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178320

Please upload the latest upstream version (at the time of writing - 19.08.0).

Thanks!

Bug#909636: kwin-wayland: kwin_wayland is segfaulting right after login

2018-09-25 Thread Shmerl
Package: kwin-wayland
Version: 4:5.13.5-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When using KWin Wayland session in Debian testing with AMD Vega 56 GPU
(connected over DisplayPort),
it cores right after log-in and falls back into sddm. I managed to produce a
core backtrace - it's
happening in the interaction between kwin_wayland and wayland-client.

Wayland and KDE developers so far didn't figure out the cause. Mesa developers
suggested,
that it can be a Debian specific issue, since it doesn't happen on some other
up to date distros.

See Wayland bug reference below for a backtrace of the crash.

* corresponding Wayland bug:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/issues/56
* corresponding KDE bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396066
* corresponding Mesa bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107213

Configuration:

Current Debian testing Linux (x86_64) (kernel: 4.19.0-rc4), KDE Plasma 5.13.5.
kwin-wayland 5.13.5
libwayland-client0 1.16.0
GPU: Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 (amdgpu), DisplayPort connection.
Mesa: 18.1.7.
