Bug#672972: Wheezy: VLC player can't play videos

2013-02-07 Thread T Elcor
Michel Dänzer daen...@debian.org wrote:

Hence my repeated request for isolating if and where VLC is hanging,
or what else it is doing when the video output is frozen.

Tried again to enable logging in vlc, specified the log file name, Log Format =
Text,
Syslog facility = User, Verbosity = 10, but no log file was created after vlc
had hanged.

I can try again but I'm not sure what needs to be changed to get vlc to log
what it's doing.

Bug#693742: More information.

2012-11-24 Thread T Elcor
- Original Message -
 From: Raúl Sánchez Siles rasas...@gmail.com

What was the latest version of KVIrc that you can remember that feature was
 available?

I believe it was available in lenny or squeeze (lenny is more likely).

There is still a similar option if you do right mouse button on the network
name, in the window list. The option name is close all queries.

That option wasn't available to me until I restored the default scripts,
as you had suggested. All I had there was Logging, that it. It's a bit
weird because I don't remember changing anything in the scripts, ever. Anyway,
Close all queries came back, which is great.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Bug#672972: Broken Xvideo extension on Radeon HD 4200

2012-11-21 Thread T Elcor
It should be evident, but you need to run xvinfo, glxinfo and xdpyinfo
 from within the X session.

Just going through my old bugs... I've enclosed xvinfo.txt and xdpyinfo.txt,
perhaps that will help.

I'm still using VLC in the same fashion I did before, that is, by setting
Video Settings | Output to X11 Video Output (XCB). If the output is set to
Default, VLC hangs.

Bug#611272: Can't run KDE apps as root (Alt+F2)

2012-11-21 Thread T Elcor
Please could you confirm it's working on newer version of kde ?
Otherwise, I will close the bug in a month, as it's working perfectly here.

I'm running wheezy and it doesn't work for me, though I can't reproduce the
OP's instructions:

To reproduce: Alt+F2, type Dolphin, then click on the wrench in the Run
 Dolphin,
then check Run as a different user checkbox, enter the username (root) and
 password.
Dolphin starts seemingly with the same user's privileges instead of root's,
 no error
message or other indication is given that something's wrong.

Once I do Alt+F2 and type Dolphin, I see Dolphin/File Manager item but I see no
wrench and no Run Dolphin thingies and I can't find a way to run apps (for
example, Dolphin) as root from Alt+F2 either. How did you do it?

Bug#693742: Wheezy: What happened to Close All Queries?

2012-11-19 Thread T Elcor
Package: kvirc
Version: 4:4.1.3+2024.svn5988-2

A while ago (perhaps in the previous release in squeeze or lenny) Kvirc had a
feature: Close All Queries or Close Queries, something like that. It was a
nice feature to have, one would RMB-click on a channel and select Close All
Queries and Kvirc would close all open query windows with just a couple of
clicks. Very nice.

But now it's gone. What happened to it? What was the reason for removing it?
How can I get it back?

Thanks

Bug#672972: Wheezy: VLC player can't play videos

In any case, please attach the output of the command
'xvinfo', 'xdpyinfo' and ideally also the file
 /var/log/Xorg.0.log. That would contain enough
information for the maintainers of the respective
driver package to investigate the lack of XV further.

'xvinfo' and 'xdpyinfo' don't produce much of an output:

Bug#675386: Wheezy: (Blinking) cursor lags makes klavaro difficult to use

2012-05-31 Thread T Elcor
Package: klavaro
Version: 1.9.4-1

I tried klavaro after a break and found that after upgrades klavaro became
almost unusable. Particularly, I'm referring to the very first lesson of the
Basic Course. My problem is that when I type the blinking cursor lag makes it
difficult to understand what letter I should type next, leading to confusion
and unnecessary errors. It feels like there is a delay between pressing a
button and seeing the respective change on the screen.

I understand that the color of letters change from black to dark green after
they have been typed but the difference on my monitor between black and dark
green colors is difficult to see.

Possible solutions:
1. Change the cursor from blinking cursor to steady cursor that moves to the
next letter with very little lag.

  and/or

2. Add a config option to change the color of the font that used to show passed
letters, for example, to bright blue instead of dark green.

Thanks

It's pretty consistent and occurs every time I try aptitude update and on the

These contain other reports of hash sum and compression errors, I
don't see anyone else claiming to be experiencing the
 404 issue that you report.

One more thing: You can see 404 error yourself if you try to access the URLs
reported by aptitude with your browser, all three of them are reporting 404 -
Not Found error for me:

At what version is libapt-pkg4.12 on this system?

# aptitude show libapt-pkg4.12
Package: libapt-pkg4.12
New: yes
State: installed
Automatically installed: yes
Multi-Arch: same
Version: 0.9.3

Installing package bzip2 or updating apt and libapt-pkg4.12 to 0.9.3
should resolve the issue. Failing that, provide a
 copy of your apt configuration.

# cat /etc/apt/apt.conf
Apt::AutoRemove::RecommendsImportant false;
Apt::AutoRemove::SuggestsImportant false;
Apt::Install-Recommends false;
Apt::Install-Suggests false;

I usually use only aptitude. Apt was used only for the purpose of identifying
the problem. It's my understanding that other people are having this (or
similar looking) problem as well.

Bug#673521: Wheezy: aptitude update fails

2012-05-19 Thread T Elcor
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.7-1

Started to have problems several day ago running aptitude update in wheezy. I
can access the following URLs from the browser without any problems, so it
doesn't look like an access problem to me:
  http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/wheezy/main/
  http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/wheezy/non-free/

When running aptitude update several times, the reported IPs change (for
example, IP: 128.61.240.89 80) but the error persists.

Any ideas? Thanks

Bug#672972: Wheezy: VLC player can't play videos

2012-05-14 Thread T Elcor
Package: vlc
Version: 2.0.1-4+b1

For some reason VLC player refuses to play video files. It starts up, shows the
first frame of the video but doesn't play it further. What's strange, KDE
DragonPlayer plays the same videos fine and I believe DragonPlayer relies on
VLC libraries to play videos.

Package: iceweasel

Iceweasel is no longer using busy cursor as per KDE cursor theme. By busy
cursor I mean the cursor that Iceweasel shows when it's waiting for the web
server to transmit the data. It used to work in previous Iceweasel versions, as
late as version 8, I believe, but not in version 9 or 10. Now Iceweasel shows
*some* (default?) busy cursor but it's not a part of the KDE cursor theme.

Bug#651577: Wheezy: Iceweasel: Login fails with Skype buttons for kopete plugin disabled

Tried it again, this time with a fresh profile. No difference, the login still
fails. Ctrl+Shift+A shows no extensions and/or plugins.

BTW, my problem only appears at a particular bank- I browsed through underlying
html but didn't see anything obviously wrong with the login form there. Haven't
observed any problems with other secure sites.

Bug#651577: Wheezy: Iceweasel: Login fails with Skype buttons for kopete plugin disabled

2011-12-09 Thread T Elcor
Package: iceweasel
Version: 8.0-3+b1

I'm experiencing a weird problem when I'm not able to log in to my bank-
account if I disable the Skype buttons for kopete plugin in iceweasel. Login
attempts just fail with a cryptic Unable to Process Request - Try Again Later
or Contact Customer Support message.

I had struggled with this problem for a while and was able to identify it to
the pluginreg.dat file in my profile and then to the enabled/disabled state
of the Skype buttons plugin. If the plugin is enabled then I can log in, if
it's disabled then I can't.

I'm kind of puzzled and concerned why my bank- transactions should have
anything to do with the Skype buttons or Kopete.

Any ideas? Thanks

Bug#632772: Wheezy: KDE hangs on logout

2011-08-02 Thread T Elcor
It would be nice if it could be solved without the nonfree firmware

Second that. I since removed the firmware-linux-nonfree package because it was
causing some weird video effects with some applications. For example,

1. Some kvirc windows that are constantly updating would black out (sometimes
as long as 1-2 seconds) before an update is made. Without
firmware-linux-nonfree such effect is not observed.

2. Though I was able to log out without hanging with firmware-linux-nonfree
installed, the last screen was garbled, with parts of the picture severely
distorted.

Thanks

Am using KDE and when switching to kwrite from other apps, kwrite occasionally
shows some phantom lines instead of real ones. While scrolling through the page
using arrow keys the phantom lines are replaced with real ones. PgUp/PgDown
again may result in phantom lines.

Bug#632772: KDE refuses to remember display resolution settings

2011-07-20 Thread T Elcor
Spoke too soon, after a reboot it became clear that the second issue is still
unresolved, that is:

KDE refuses to remember display resolution settings: I set it to 1600x1200 and
click the Save as Default button, yet after logging out (and hanging and
resetting, see #1 above) KDE reverts to 1280x1024 Auto mode.

You always have the option to purge the package and remove
 non-free from your

I installed firmware-linux-nonfree and it appears it did resolve both of the
original problems: KDE logout seems to be fine now and KDE does remember the
resolution settings.

Bug#632772: Wheezy: KDE hangs on logout

2011-07-05 Thread T Elcor
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.14.2-1
Severity: important

Am having problems with KDE in wheezy:

1. KDE hangs on logout (Kmenu-Leave-Logout). Logging out results in a blank
black screen and the system just hangs there, hardware reset is needed to
reboot the system. When rebooted the system restarts and KDE works fine with
the exception that it doesn't remember previous display settings (see below).

2. KDE refuses to remember display resolution settings: I set it to 1600x1200
and click the Save as Default button, yet after logging out (and hanging and
resetting, see #1 above) KDE reverts to 1280x1024 Auto mode.

When I was upgrading to wheezy from squeeze, there were warnings that some
drivers were moved to the non-free area but I didn't install any non-free
drivers after the upgrade.

There was no problem with logging out of KDE in squeeze on this PC.
