Bug#988475: more details
Note 1: Seems like this happens with the new kernels from backports but not the one provided by the default distro Note 2: The issue happens also with the package 'ddcci-dkms', so im not sure how much is related to the dkms package(s) or with the new kernels from backports?

Bug#928891: linux-image-amd64: Kernel crash when using any disk that uses reiserfs
Package: linux-image-amd64 Version: 4.19+104 Severity: important -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Dear Maintainer, When using any partition which uses reiserfs, the kernel crashes This happens very easily by just using the reiser (v3) filesystem, some of my external hard disks uses it (so I cannot make use of them), or partition mountpoints with reiserfs becomes totally unusable and dangerous This bug is easily reproducible by creating a new reiserfs partition (image file probably too) and start using it, so it looks like it specially affects in RW operations I suggest to mark this bug as a serious one since there's so many people using this filesystem, in desktops or servers. Bug#704571: live-build: Listing flavours in syslinux step does a wrong matching
Package: live-build Version: 3.0.1-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Build fails if you include a kernel in the flavours like the ones from experimental that has a different name, for example on this case it fails with a structure like this: vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-486 vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-686-pae vmlinuz-3.8-trunk-686-pae Just like you can see in this paste with the error: http://paste.debian.net/236002/ You can see the error in the expansion on the line 28 which includes 2 times a vmlinuz file, as how SynrG told me in the chat the solution should be: SynrG step 1. remember which flavour is which sequence # SynrG step 2. sort all flavours by length, longest 1st SynrG step 3. iteratively match all flavours, removing them from the list of kernels to match whenever we have a match SynrG step 4. rename all matched vmlinuz-* to vmlinuz# SynrG if you can figure out how to do that in shell, be my guest :) The attached patch should solve the problem, it was tested in a sandbox (simulated) environment with the result included in the comments but not in a real build since I was able to install the kernel 3.7 from experimental but not the 3.8 one (broken dependencies), however I readed the code and it should not conflict in the rest of the script behaviour Thanks Thanatermesis - -- Package-specific info: - -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages live-build depends on: ii debootstrap 1.0.44 Versions of packages live-build recommends: ii cpio2.11+dfsg-0.1 ii gnu-fdisk 1.2.4-3.1 ii live-boot-doc 3.0.1-1 ii live-config-doc 3.0.21-1 ii live-manual-html [live-manual] 1:3.0.1-1 Versions of packages live-build suggests: ii debian-keyring 2012.11.15 ii dosfstools 3.0.13-1 ii fakeroot1.18.4-2 ii git 1:1.7.10.4-1+wheezy1 ii gpgv1.4.12-7 pn loadlin none ii memtest86+ 4.20-1.1 ii mtools 4.0.17-1 ii parted 2.3-12 ii squashfs-tools 1:4.2-5 ii sudo1.8.5p2-1+nmu1 ii syslinux2:4.05+dfsg-6+deb7u1 ii uuid-runtime2.20.1-5.3 pn win32-loadernone ii xorriso 1.2.2-2 - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAEBCAAGBQJRW48AAAoJEKLHmb/f+NfCTQsQAJD4Aw/o7MXmNKFZe1Bi4LBX T1KHdmsOCsRU7d3spIkmDI2Fj/7DmmZG51GrpT7lwE4E2iR3TZA2O5QtMwzfR4Vr ClG9zAFGLIoFxD8rXaFoOrIDpy3/8P5cDK9Ww0/H8mW2cKyIYkFx/zyIa2q/JCRH mqY6cfD8PYiwdnU/oereNw5n4YGgkYan91A/prXIBSUE9d/a7IBdUYatSg/jjP+m MOb/vtSRerYbVROMvMBLgz3c8eAZpUZANFQBgstnlDKWN8ijwnnhlftiuSBz6u5m nXzfO4ei0/rQ8325ONrsZmVB5iZYwY2M0qbkXCnAkf1ccesbuiQ+ozxPYldHCHJi wSbHJrFLR+vnorfFMRVokB3t94PvDRawTjz3f885lS3f8Hy/qCiVgjSxHiHuBCTw FJlrItcLLdn2vxw/3KfcEekPeQ9WZT25amA3vDsA2e6HoYjXTuNmpteXOKX68OeG 6iPA1c21qXe1AWMZsdjfQXOzKlJG2P7oDrjya1ssST0o9xFllIESLiUcOZTXoTng urusW4vmgcByqaf/qc3BYCOQsuixSEwV5nv+WBtpRG9zGqoZ0xRpISPG9FIg+i/U DXA/ymAI6LG2JzoD3LQaQFfhb1Oru7chDnSN2cW3TPt7FjZ4zQcqgZtmu4w+8Gta Z+GO2f+j843i2075YWJk =uzlA -END PGP SIGNATURE- --- a/scripts/build/binary_syslinux +++ b/scripts/build/binary_syslinux @@ -185,12 +185,21 @@ then *) _NUMBER=0 - for _FLAVOUR in ${LB_LINUX_FLAVOURS} + # this for uses a sorting by lenght and adds an indexed order + # example: + # - if we have: 686-pae 486 3.8-trunk-686-pae, we got this list: + # 3.8-trunk-686-pae:3 + # 686-pae:1 + # 486:2 + + for _FLAVOUR_INDEXED in $( echo $LB_LINUX_FLAVOURS | tr ' ' '\n' | awk '{ printf %d:%s:%d\n, length($0), $0, NR;}' | sort -rn | sed 's/^[0-9]*://' ) do +_FLAVOUR=$(echo ${_FLAVOUR_INDEXED} | sed 's|:.*$||g' ) +_INDEX=$(echo ${_FLAVOUR_INDEXED} | sed 's|^.*:||g' ) _NUMBER=$((${_NUMBER} + 1)) -mv binary/live/vmlinuz-*-${_FLAVOUR} binary/live/vmlinuz${_NUMBER} -mv binary/live/initrd.img-*-${_FLAVOUR} binary/live/initrd${_NUMBER}.img +mv binary/live/vmlinuz-*-${_FLAVOUR} binary/live/vmlinuz${_INDEX} +mv binary/live/initrd.img-*-${_FLAVOUR} binary/live/initrd${_INDEX}.img if [ ${_NUMBER} -gt 1 ] then @@ -201,8 +210,8 @@ then fi sed -i -e s|@FLAVOUR@|${_FLAVOUR}|g \ - -e s|@LINUX@|/live/vmlinuz${_NUMBER}|g \ - -e s|@INITRD@|/live/initrd${_NUMBER}.img|g \ + -e s|@LINUX@|/live/vmlinuz${_INDEX}|g \ + -e s|@INITRD@|/live/initrd${_INDEX}.img|g \ -e s#@APPEND_LIVE@#${LB_BOOTAPPEND_LIVE}#g \ -e s#@APPEND_LIVE_FAILSAFE@#${LB_BOOTAPPEND_LIVE_FAILSAFE}#g \ ${_TARGET}/live.cfg

Package: live-build Version: 3.0~a57-1 Followup-For: Bug #685924 -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 In my case, I have a .pref file in config/chroot_apt/ , in the deconfigure step it exit with an error about mv dir/file.pref.orig not found, after to look at the code of the patched file it seems like it does the wrong thing in the deconfigure step, so if im correct, the idea is: - - in the install step it puts the original file to a saved copy and use ours, when finishes (deconfigure) it puts back the original one) This patch removes some code that looks wrong for me (a typo in copy-pasting the step for deconfigure?), and the bug is gone there Thanatermesis - -- Package-specific info: - -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages live-build depends on: ii debootstrap 1.0.42 Versions of packages live-build recommends: ii cpio2.11-8 ii gnu-fdisk 1.2.4-3.1 ii live-boot-doc 3.0~a35-1 ii live-config-doc 3.0~a33-1 ii live-manual-html [live-manual] 1:3.0~a13-1 Versions of packages live-build suggests: ii dosfstools 3.0.13-1 ii fakeroot 1.18.4-2 ii genisoimage 9:1.1.11-2 ii git 1:1.7.10.4-1 ii memtest86+ 4.20-1.1 ii mtools 4.0.17-1 pn parted none ii squashfs-tools 1:4.2-5 ii sudo 1.8.5p2-1 pn syslinux | grub none pn uuid-runtime none pn win32-loader none - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAEBCAAGBQJQO731AAoJEKLHmb/f+NfCCHgP/3AHUK9A+1IUGkDhVsnaVm40 Yvx7DMz+lJDfB7CT/BUZWV9NL8vS6XxyaW7ESIj2ZowY+qXlaaVQwiNw/mi+hy8p 1BhLqYmE90+H29LirZfaafAokyN309aGUc+gHfeRu+f/TreAQKnExirScLfDKY2J mmwW+/IH4IcfjsKRLRP75+RjYehAU74JAPHW3Y5Bul+y8WSYEUpQFo+0EHYkRlP6 IsouwDdFbM1D3HIKWMh0W5mkmAnx+QZlTiqqoqS7T40j3mjLzhXMtMudBT2mPsuU oGT+lPeFBPcA7bYTS9BzpIp7n608wrjjnggbXLcVooramjGlxmDxB/6nUIkYhb0y vAdFp3k0J5jaKCdKbBgJei0b+gDx5D2nQ3pcjvpJM8MO5ew0WG+vzmY7RiFsYRJX 9C4anKI0OrUlglz8FsSOohFBaMRvlZZzNic6UI/1EqV39kKvTUpSr6sIBhWpjUe6 meQRVb8QhIljS/CuGbMNAxhjDvLVOMRWoXl/QnEjmckti4ztLOHUpwMRpZPQvNsX +Pk/xoYrxgUEMxiO3ap0YLMF4xboNoI6p/7DWAVLyh92wpH2Pldu6ogk8b3iLjkE OJWaICVeHnIBaMTEmWQba/MvaT2r97jhZbQRp/m25sRRPhGj2lmz92w6JOZR42pF CvN5x+CNaQfxTClSxD0D =L80t -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: exo-utils Version: 0.3.4-7 Severity: Important Inserting a CD-RW with data in order to burn it with brasero, is not possible since the CD is mounted by thunar and there's no options to umount it I think that the severity of this bug is pretty grave because made the system unable to record CDs to the end-users, you can record them umounting the cdrom mounted previously by thunar (thunar-volman) but there's no option to umount in thunar, only eject, by other side i don't think that needed to umount first is the solution since the user just has a problem burning a cd without imagine that needs to open thunar to umount it (not has much sense) Looks like to be exactly this problem: http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3142 but using brasero instead of XFburn There's a reply on the bugzilla of xfce saying that should be fixed in the svn version Note: The cd is mounted because is a cd-rw with data on it, so exo-mount by thunar mounts it Thanatermesis -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkj8qSgACgkQUOXLAbAeLpR+MgCeP0MHa+lh9e2qOCQA/XPWNceM 9KoAn2KoAxKnmFW2SJGgb9E/G+xGnGzY =MlR2 -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: bash Version: 3.2-4 The prompt acts strange, the better way to understand what does is reproducing it, for that: run the command sleep 10 in a terminal, then inmediately start typing random characters in the terminal in order to fit the full line plus the 50 percent of the next one (so one line + 1/2), now just wait that the 10 seconds finishes to recover the prompt, when it appears, start erasing (backspace key) all the flood of characters that you have typed, when you have finished to erase both lines you then see the bug, the line is not 'reloaded' correctly giving you wrong position of the cursor, it erases your prompt In a version that this works correctly (like the bash of ETCH) when you have finished to remove the second line, the first line does a kind of 'reload' and the prompt its positioned in the first place of the line, the position of the cursor are perfectly scrollable in the text and everything's ok Note: version 3.1dfsg-8 works correctly Greetings Thanatermesis -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkizCuwACgkQUOXLAbAeLpRu0gCcDtxJYgW5h1TJHfcVlQY6Vj57 4D4AniSX3vXSGL1VaHV+x4j6NBrxNAh9 =lQwv -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#377294: new concept of upgrading configuration fails on versions management
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.0.22 I'm building a new debootsrap system, and if i try to configure it with dpkg-reconfigure, it doesn't write xorg.conf file. With a set - -x i have traced the /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.postinst and when i took a look to it, i've understood it was an update, but as long as my xorg.conf file is clean (blank file), he won't upgrade anything and the xorg.conf file will continue blank... Then i needed to confuse the script, exactly on the line 1669: # here's a new concept: DON'T TOUCH THE CONFIG ON UPGRADES if [ -z $UPGRADE ] || dpkg --compare-versions $2 le 1:7.0.14; then i had to change the version 1:7.0.14 to 1:7.0.22 so deboostrap will skip upgrading a file that has nothing (blank), but writing instead a real file from your config or debconf After that, i also needed to run this: touch /etc/X11/xorg.conf md5sum /etc/X11/xorg.conf /var/lib/x11/xorg.conf.md5sum to accept the MD5SUM verification Well, i know that this bug is a little riddled and it can be produced by different things. IMHO my recomm. is simply this... before all, have a look to xorg.conf file, and see if it exists. if it doesn't, touch it and generate the new md5sum verification (same to my 2 last commands), and then, DO NOT use the upgrade way when is called on the postinst script (same to the thing explained first) If any question about this, just email me Thanatermesis - -- Do you want a new Linux experience ?
