Bug#488477: Missing word in debconf template
Package: gridengine Version: 6.2~beta2-2 Severity: minor Hi, during the translation of your debconf template, we discovered an error in one of your messages: Please choose whether you wish configure SGE automatically (with debconf). If you do not configure it automatically, the daemons or client programs will not work until a manual configuration is performed. In the first sentence, the word to is missing. How about the following rewording: Please choose whether you wish to configure SGE automatically (with debconf). Or even better: Please choose whether you wish SGE to be configured automatically (with debconf). Moreover, are there really daemons or is it only one daemon? Bug#487548: mscore: FTBFS on mips
Package: mscore Version: 0.9.2+dfsg-2 Severity: important Hi, your package fails to build from source on MIPS, see the log: http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=mscore;ver=0.9.2%2Bdfsg-2;arch=mips;stamp=1213800324 I don't know why that happened, the diff between the previous version (which built successfully) and the current version should not affect the build. Maybe it's a temporary problem on the buildd, I suggest that someone with access to MIPS hardware tries to build the package and see whether the bug can be reproduced or not. Bug#448020: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the ddclient package
Dear maintainer of ddclient and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the ddclient Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: ca cs de es fi fr gl ja nl pt pt_BR vi zh_TW Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the ddclient package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, May 22, 2008. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Monday, April 28, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Sunday, May 11, 2008 : send this notice Thursday, May 22, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates Friday, May 23, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Sunday, May 25, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- Tobias Toedter | If anything can go wrong, it will. If there's any doubt about how to translate something into German, he's always open to discussion on the mailing list. I don't know his packages, so I cannot say anything about his packaging skills. Hi, I've built the package in my pbuilder with qt 4.4.0~rc1-2, which didn't show the build failure. The package has been built successfully on the buildds for alpha, armel, hppa, ia64, powerpc, s390, all of them still using qt 4.4.0~rc1-2. The build failed on mips and mipsel with unmet dependencies for libqt-dev (using the new qt 4.4.0~rc1-3). It also failed on amd64, using qt 4.4.0~rc1-3. The error message is the one you've specified in the bug report subject, could not build a simple Qt program. However, this leads me to believe that the actual error might be one of the changes between qt 4.4.0~rc1-2 and qt 4.4.0~rc1-3. I'm therefore cloning this bug to assign it to qt4-x11. Bug#450622: RFA: bookmarks -- Debian bookmark collection
Package: wnpp Severity: normal Hi, I think that the bookmark collection is no longer useful and should be removed from Debian. It hasn't seen an update in almost one year, and most links get outdated and need to be removed. If anyone would like to adopt this package, feel free to do so. If there will be no new maintainer within the next few weeks, I'll request the removal of this package. This is the package description: This package is a large collection of web links (more than 1,400), and shall constantly be updated and improved with your help. The German link collection for example is already very complete. . The numerous links are most useful to everybody, but of course especially for newbies to find their way to the vast Internet resources. Although this bookmark collection lists all kind of resources (e.g. search engines, links to online dictionaries, etc.), the majority of them are still computer and Linux oriented. . This package also includes the Ruby script xbel2bookmarks which can be used to create different bookmark formats (XHTML, Mozilla, Opera). . Maybe I don't understand the process well and they're in some unstable branch, but this is an important bugfix and IMHO ought to go to the stable branch. If not, please kindly explain to me how it works. Hello Ivan, the Debian stable distribution will not be updated with new translations. Those updates are available in the Debian unstable and testing distributions, so that they'll get into the next stable release. We've already included some of your updates into our SVN repository of iso-codes http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-isocodes/trunk/iso-codes/?rev=0sc=0. I have limited access until Thursday evening, so please do so. Done. More generally, I don't know what would be best for the long country names. We don't have access to the official source for these because of the stupid close source policy of the ISO-3166 MA. So, I actually fear that we could have outdated information for some countries. On the other hand, I'm unsure: the ISO-3166 MA publishes regular newsletter with changes...but none of them mentions the *long* country names...while I'm pretty sure that these are those that change most often, rather than short ocuntry names. We should maybe use another source for the long country names. The UN lists? Yes, why not. I think that it's a good idea to use as many sources as possible to verify the data. I'll try to extract the information from the UN website, or do you know a downloadable file available somewhere? Hi Christian, I'm sorry, I thought it was save to remove the tab file, which has been deprecated for quite some time now. However, it's no problem to include iso_639.tab again in the Debian package. On the other hand, I've downloaded the .diff.gz for geneweb and had a look at the script debian/get-iso-codes which now fails. Bug#424059: UTF-8 support needed
On Tuesday 15 May 2007 17:19, Ilya Galushko wrote: Now Worker has UTF-8 support from 2.13.0 version (current is 2.14.4). On installig Debian use UTF-8 by default, so why you maintain this old version (without UTF-8 support)? Hi Ilya, the reason for the rather old version of worker in the Debian archive is that Ralf Hoffmann (the upstream author) decided to use the library avfs for browsing FTP sites as well as compressed archives (tarballs etc.). Unfortunately, that library includes the source code of other libraries and modifies them directly in order to enable some special features. I do not think that this approach is a good one. I rather think that avfs should *link* against those other libraries (as they are available in Debian), instead of including their source code and compiling it into avfs. The result is that the version of those other libraries in avfs has not been updated for quite some time now. In the meantime, the upstream version of those libraries have been updated several times; including e.g. security fixes. I'm not willing to double that libraries' source code in the Debian archive and creating the need to perform several security uploads instead of just one. I decided back then to stay at version 2.11.1, the last version which did not depend on avfs. We now have two options: 1. Stay at 2.11.1 without UTF-8, but with the possibility to browse into compressed tarballs. 2. Update to 2.14.4 with UTF-8, but not with avfs, so without the possibility to browse into compressed tarballs. Given that Debian is now UTF-8 enabled by default, I think that the update might be a good idea. However, it would be a regression concerning the ability to look into archive files. What do you think? Regards, Tobias -- Tobias Toedter | It's not an optical illusion, it just looks like one. Hamburg, Germany | pgpbQ2qaxjVlH.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#314188: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the gnome-applets package
On Wednesday 01 November 2006 08:10, Christian Perrier wrote: I'm afraid I didn't get this notice, nor did the bug do. I'm only maintaining gnome-applets via the PTS subscription, so if you mailed the Maintainer: directly, this isn't enough. I think mailing the @packages.debian.org would have reached me, but I'm not 100% sure anymore now. The @p.d.o address is the one getting the first mail (intent to NMU) and the second one, 7 days later (announce of the upcoming NMU). The mail is sent with X-PTS-Approved headers. This is not the first time that I see that, indeed, mails sent to package@p.d.o do not easily reach package maintainers. There is still something that I'm probably missing, here. Hi, as I understand it, there is a subtle difference between the [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note the additional .qa-part!) mail aliases. The @p.d.o alias just forwards the mail to the address listed as Maintainer: in debian/control. You don't need the X-PTS-Approved: header for that alias, it'll just forward anything received for the alias. Note, however, that this does *not* include people subscribed to the package via the PTS, nor anyone listed as Uploader:. The @p.qa.d.o alias, on the other hand, does seem to require the X-PTS-Approved: header, otherwise the mail will not be forwarded. If the mail gets forwarded, it'll include the people who are subscribed to the package's PTS interface with the default keyword. Bug#297594: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the aladin package
Dear maintainer of aladin and Debian translators, On 22 Oct 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the aladin Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS (bug #297594). I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer did not respond in a week so I will proceed with the NMU. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es fr ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi The following translations are incomplete: none (even after applying pending l10n bugs, of course) If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a copy of this announcement BCC'ed to you. Please review the translation. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can incorporate them into the package being built. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is 06 Nov 2006. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. You can download the pot, and any po, files from: http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/pots/aladin If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Bug#392902: qmake-qt4 no longer escapes quotes for -Dfoo=value on gcc command line
Perhaps this should be closed since it sounds like a permanent change from upstream? Hi Brian, I suggest to not close this bug, at least for a while. My package failed to build because of this, and I was about to file a bug against libqt4-dev as well. I think that documenting this new behaviour of qmake in the BTS is a good idea.
