Today latest update to gimp 2.6.6-1 did the trick :)

When I try to open remote image via open location dialog, it prints out this
message (no matter what image i'm trying to open):

Could not open 'http://www.debian.org/Pics/debian.png' for
I installed gvfs-backends rebooted my machine and it still doesn't work.
Reinstalling gimp also didn't help.
Yes, I do have dbus (as well as many of libdbus-* libraries) and hal installed.
No, gimp doesn't print anything to the console, while trying to open an url.
