Save the file, and click to close the window while the save is in progress.
The dialogue about wether or not to save
before quitting is shown. Selecting save makes gnucash crash. As far as I
can tell there is no damage to the file,
but I'm unwilling to test too extensively. All unsaved changes are lost.

Whereas I can confirm this bug for Gnucash 2.0.5-1 I am not able to
reproduce it using Gnucash 2.2.6-1. Apparently the whole application
is now blocked until a save operation is finished.

Are you still able to reproduce it using Gnucash 2.2.6-1? If not, let's
mark the bug as fixed in Gnucash 2.2.6-1.

I won't be able to test that for some time, so I suggest that you mark
it as fixed unless anyone else complains about it.

Bug#453958: exim4: Init script tries to kill wrong process

2007-12-02 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: exim4
Version: 4.68-2
Severity: minor

Hi. The exim4 script in /etc/init.d complains:

Stopping MTA:/sbin/start-stop-daemon: warning: failed to kill 2174: No such
process
 exim4_listener.

This happens every time it is run, including but not limited to system
shutdown. I've marked it as a minor bug since I haven't noticed
any problems apart from the warning. I guess it isn't such a big deal.

Ok, I'll test it as soon as it reaches my mirror. For now I can tell you that
this is how 1.4.3-23 behaves: when invoked without
arguments (or with arguments, for that matter) it outputs ffeature (prefix)
duplicate definition. isn't really , it's a
strange arrow character I can't seem to cut paste.

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the

other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of

Hooray! The problem is now gone. There have been some upgrades here and
there in between, so I don't know exactly what did it, but it's all
working now. The display of the java cache browser acts weird, but
that may be completely unrelated and is a much less severe bug in any
case. I could report it here if it's of any interest, but I'm guessing
it might not be due to the closed-source nature of SUN's java.

Bug#443964: Bug 443964

fre 2007-10-05 klockan 14:16 -0700 skrev Michael Westwind:
Java in web pages is working fine in konqueror for me. It is enabled
 globally
and the path to the executable is set to /usr/bin/java, which is a symlink
to /etc/alternatives/java, which is a symlink
 to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java

I had not tried it before, but javaws does not seem to work starting from
 konqueror. I went to http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/demos.html
and got a message saying I needed to download it.

after writing the above and before sending off this email, I noticed there
were some updates in sid, including java6, so I did an upgrade and found I
can now use java in iceweasel. Very nice.

 regards
 Michael

I don't think it was ever the same bug, then. javaws crashes for me
started from the commandline, that is without any browser involved, and
it is still crashing after the updates. Nice to hear that it works for
you now, but the original bug should stay open.

Yes, it works! Great, thanks!

---BeginMessage---

Hi,
I've read your post Bug#444285 about the generated cache is invalid
problem while installing gimp-data. I solved it (by putting together
different pieces of info): there is an invalid icon in
/usr/share/icons/hicolor in may casewas the Autopackage installer icon
autopackage-installer.png as soon as I removed it, the
gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor succeeded and then
the gimp-data installation worked.

Good luck
Matteo

P.S.
in case the solution works also for you, please post it

Bug#443964: Reopen bug and assign to sun-java6 for upstream forwarding

 Vincent,
Thanks once again for your excellent detail and diligence in this
bug report. We have decided it would be best to reassign this bug to
the pre-packaged Sun Java 6 JRE, where it can also be tagged as a bug
belonging to the upstream part of the package. This is the most
appropriate route to get the bug information to the persons ultimately
able to do something about it.
One other piece of information may be helpful in troubleshooting
this issue. Could you provide the URL you are accessing when Java is
invoked and crashes the browser? Thanks in advance for your response.

 Regards,

I'll gladly provide two such URLs, although I think it's just a matter
of javaws crashing regardless of how it is invoked.

Bug#443964: java-package: javaws also crashes

2007-09-26 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: java-package
Followup-For: Bug #443964

The reason in my case is that I simple didn't know about the prepackages
version. Anyway, it doesn't make a difference in this case - I've
installed sun-java6-jre and the same thing keeps happening. I have some
new information however: javaws -viewer also crashes. I conclude that
there is a problem with javaws.

Attached you will find the BugBuddy report from javaws crashing, minus
the .xsession errors which didn't contain anything useful and did
contain some personal information.

I hope this new information is helpful.

Bug#443964: java-package: Browser plugin crash?

2007-09-25 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: java-package
Version: 0.35
Severity: normal

Starting yesterday my browsers crash whenever something Java related
happens. BugBuddy doesn't recognise the responsible application, but
creates a bugreport which contains a backtrace with mostly java related
stuff in it. I've tried it with both Epiphany and Iceweasel, so I'm
guessing the fault is in the java package. The JRE is SUN version 6
update 2.

BugBuddy bugreport attached.

Bug#443750: texlive-latex-base: Abstract environment should make sure paragraph is not indented

2007-09-23 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: texlive-latex-base
Version: 2007-12
Severity: wishlist

The abstract of e g an article is usually the first paragraph after the title,
and hence should not be indented. Now it's necessary to
add a noindent at the beginning of the paragraph to achieve that.

I have not included a minimal example, as I think it won't be useful to you in
this case. If you want after all I'll happily send it.

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

http://www.latex-einfuehrung.de/mini-en.html (english)

crashes. I've tried this with two different video drivers, the nv driver
and the closed source nvidia driver. It happens with almost any most
clients, however not with xlogo, xeyes or oclock.

I'm attaching output.txt, created as described above.

Can you try running g-p-m in debug mode and see if you get any warnings?

 gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --debug

You will probably need to kill the running process first, you could also
try --verbose for extra debugging info.

You can use dbus to access the backlight controls,

 dbus-send --session --dest=org.gnome.PowerManager
 --type=method_call --print-reply
 --reply-timeout=2000 /org/gnome/PowerManager/Backlight
 org.gnome.PowerManager.Backlight.SetMode string:off

You could also try standby, and suspend instead of off.

There are no debug messages even with --debug. off works just fine.
standby and suspend make the screen go blank, which is what I
suppose they should do.

I've noticed something else: contrary to what I wrote in my original
report, the screen is actually turned off by g-p-m, but there is a delay
of a few minutes where the screen is blanked but on. This confused me. I
still think it's kind of weird, but it's not a problem to me since it
eventually turns off anyway.

Bug#428122: gnome-power-manager: Does not turn screen off when the kernel has APM support

2007-06-09 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.18.3-1
Severity: normal

Here's a funny thing: when the kernel has APM support, gnome-power-manager
doesn't use dpms to suspend the screen, so
it remains in the ON state. When the kernel doesn't have APM support everything
works as it should. 'xset dpms force
off' turns the screen off regardless of the kernel capabilities.

Bug#425301: gnome-mount: Can't eject CD

2007-05-20 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: gnome-mount
Version: 0.6-1+b2
Severity: normal

There's a bug report titled Can't unmount CD, but after reading it I
don't think this is the same issue.

Trying to eject a CD from the desktop, a dialogue pops up: Can't eject
volume (rough translation). Trying from the command line (gnome-mount
-v -e --device /dev/cdrom) gives the same result. The only text output
(despite the -v option) is gnome-mount 0.6. /dev/cdrom links to
/dev/hdc, which is owned by root:cdrom and ug+rw.

eject from the eject package eject the CD without complaining.

Bug#423560: xscreensaver: apple2 keeps restarting

2007-05-12 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 4.24-5
Severity: normal

apple2 seems to keep restarting around every 10 seconds or so. Sometimes
it takes longer, sometimes shorter. It's kind of annoying. It doesn't
happen if -text -program some program is specified at the command
line. In random mode, it can switch between slideshow, basic and text
when it happens.

There is no ouput of any kind indicating what the problem is.

Please provide the command you executed to generate this error so that

I'm afraid I've done something silly: investigating the problem, I
erased my source tree and unpacked a new one from the source package. In
retrospect I should just have renamed the old one. Now everything works
as expected, and I can't do any diffs to see what changed.

In case you're still interested, the command line was: sudo make-kpkg

I can't reproduce this bug. How exactly did you get to the

I've tried several times, and I was finally able to reproduce it! It was
caused by a typo on my behalf: --stem -linux instead of --stem
linux. The dash ends up in the changelog file and confuses the parser.

Bug#422648: hal: can_suspend true when it should be false

2007-05-07 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: hal
Version: 0.5.8.1-9
Severity: normal

This is the output of lshal | grep can_suspend:

  power_management.can_suspend_to_disk = false  (bool)
  power_management.can_suspend_to_ram = true  (bool)
  power_management.can_suspend = true  (bool)

However, everything related to suspending (ram or disk) is disabled both in the
kernel and in the bios because the
computer has strange hangs when suspend is attempted, and sometimes filesystem
corruption. I can't see that HAL is
detecting the these things correctly if it thinks can_suspend and
can_suspend_to_ram should be true.

Bug#422648: hal: can_suspend true when it should be false

Thank you for the quick reply.

Well, suspend support isn't compiled into the kernel. This is the power
managment section of the kernel config file:

#

CONFIG_X86_PM_TIMER=y

What does cat /sys/power/state say on your system?
If it lists mem, then hal is working according to it's spec and this
 bug should be closed.

The output is standby mem, so I guess HAL is working according to it's
specification then. Is it a bug somewhere else? Or is there anything I
can do to let HAL know suspending is not ok? I thought disabling it in
the kernel and BIOS would be enough.

2007-05-01 Thread Vincent Lönngren

Today I found that the EDID values are used instead of the values from the

Bug#421775: linux-2.6: Quirky console

2007-05-01 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: linux-2.6
Severity: normal

When viewing a lot of text is output on the console (cat /var/log/syslog), the
cursor ends up below the visible area, together with the last lines of text.
The visible area will still be scrolled upward appropriately as more
text is entered. Switching VT back and forth will correct the problem.

I'm using fbcon on nvidiafb.

Bug#421574: texlive-latex-base: \name macro documentation is wrong

2007-04-30 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: texlive-latex-base
Version: 2005.dfsg.3-1
Severity: normal

According to latex.info, the \name macro is used for the return address.
However, \name only defines \fromname, which is only used for the
signature if nothing else is specified. I guess it may have been the
authors intention that \name should be used with the return address, but
it is not the case.

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries

dialogue about wether or not to save
before quitting is shown. Selecting save makes gnucash crash. As far as I can
tell there is no damage to the file,
but I'm unwilling to test too extensively. All unsaved changes are lost.

Bug#367410: xserver-xorg: font problems with some fixed fonts

2007-02-15 Thread Vincent Lönngren
tor 2007-02-15 klockan 01:45 +0100 skrev Brice Goglin:
 Hi,

About 8 months ago, you guys reported bugs to the Debian BTS (#367410,
#368240 and #369620, merged since)**, or replied to one of them, about
fixed font problems in X and/or emacs.
Did any of you reproduce this problem recently with Xorg7.1 in Etch? If
not, I will close these bug in the next weeks.

 Thanks,
 Brice

It's still there. xedit displays the warnings and aborts. xfontsel just
displays the warnings. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed.

Bug#408974: abiword-common: It would be nice if Abiword took screen dpi into account when zooming

2007-01-29 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: abiword-common
Version: 2.4.6-1.1
Severity: wishlist

Likte the title says. Zoom 100% should show the size as it will actually
appear on paper, 1 cm should be 1 cm et c (on a properly configured
system, of course).

Bug#408687: Text leaves trails in gnome-about

2007-01-27 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: gnome-about
Version: 2.14.3-1
Severity: normal

The moving text in gnome-about leaves trails at the edges. They are small
trails, a pixel here and a pixel there, but
they accumulate if it is allowed to go on for a while.
