Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation? Upgraded Conky to 1.20.2-1
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)? I believe this is related to the upstream bug here;
https://github.com/brndnmtthws/conky/issues/1867
   * What was the outcome of this action? Rolled conky back to 1.19.6-1+b1
   * What outcome did you expect instead? Rolling back fixed the problem

when on version 1.20.2-1 when starting conky, I would get this error; "conky:
'gnome' wayland session running 'GNOME' destop
conky: llua_do_call: function conky_draw_bg execution failed:
/home/terroreek/.conky/draw_bg.lua:32: attempt to call a nil value (global

Bug#1033997: scilab-6.1.1+dfsg2-5: scilab and xcos unable to launch. Error dialog say onfiguration file is corrupted.

2023-04-05 Thread Ali
Package: scilab-6.1.1+dfsg2-5
Version: scilab
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: sayed0...@yahoo.com

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Installed Scilab and Octave on brand new system with XFFCE4 and NVIDIA
driver. Not able to launch Scilab or Xcos from either the GUI or prompt. Used
Synaptic for install so all depends were installed.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

The error message reads "The configuration file has been corrupted.
Scilab needs to restart". I removed ~/.Scilab and tried restarting. Same error.
 Installed version 6.1.0 from Bullseye but it does not launch because the JAVA
depends do not match. I did ldd scilab.bin and noticed that I am missing some
files. This should have been part of the depends install.
   * What was the outcome of this action?

I will investigate how to install the missing components:
libjava.so => not found
libverify.so => not found
libjvm.so => not found

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I would expect the pacakge and depends to get installed just like they
do when I tested on "Bullseye" and everything worked.

Well IMO the best place to publish them would be on crates.io itself
when one does `cargo publish` but unfortunately that's not supported.
So folks do have to click on the repo.

> click on the link to the repository when they want to
> view what is going on with development and don't even realise that

That's to do with Gitlab not being super popular so folks don't know
where to click but once you've seen it, you know where they are.

> Secondly it throws multiple crates and multiple branches in together.

We've a mono repo so there has to be multiple crates, unfortunately. I
don't think we're alone on this one at all though. I don't think it's
very hard to search in there for particular releases.

Not sure what you mean by branches. They're just releases. We only
support the latest release cycle so there aren't really any branches.

> this can mean looking through quite a lot of entries to find the one
> you want.

You may have a point here but I understood you were looking for
entries for particular releases and I don't think that's hard to find.

> When packages bother to maintain a changelog (which sadly most don't)

Don't you think all the problems you mentioned above about difficulty
searching for particular entries, would apply here as well?

The CHANGELOG.md is typically just a copy of the git log. I
never understood the point of re-adding git log into a file tracked by
git. It does have the advantage of easy discoverability because the
practice is quite common.

FWIW, I have also recently started to include release notes in release
tags annotations.

Internally, it was a big effort (not as big as v2 though). Only reason
to bump the major version was some API breakage that could affect some
folks.

> That still leaves the question of what to do about v1 to v2.

I'd just ignore v2. If you port to v2, most likely porting to v3 would
be trivial.

I'm not familiar with libslirp. v2 is a big change since we almost
re-wrote the core and the API is now primarily async.

> I went through serveral pages of releases and found the release

If I had the time, I would have provided a porting guide. :( I think
the main way to get into the API is the book. Comparing it to the v1,
is as close as to a porting guide you can get I guess:

https://dbus.pages.freedesktop.org/zbus/
https://dbus.pages.freedesktop.org/zbus/1.0/

> version of zbus. Mainly libslirp and squeekboard.

Right, I can give it a shot but an important point to keep in mind
here is that this can easily become a chicken issue. E.g I've been
actively pushing for an upgrade to zbus 3 in the netavark project but
they can't merge until zbus3 is packaged for Ubuntu. Incidentally,
that's how I end up here:
https://github.com/containers/netavark/pull/412

So keeping that in mind and also the fact that v2 and v3 are a
completely different thing than v1, perhaps v3 could be packaged
separately?

Why annoyingly? Where else should I provide the release notes? I take
the time to write proper release notes for each release so I'd
appreciate some appreciation for that. :) Most projects these days
don't bother at all and if they do, they just copy the git log.

Indeed. I strongly suggest bumping directly to the latest v3. The lack
of debian/ubuntu packages is stopping some projects from using the
latest supported versions:
https://github.com/containers/netavark/pull/412#issuecomment-1312584930
. Please let me know if you've any questions/concerns or if there's
anything I can do to help.

Bug#1006130: Easier packaging in new versions of sioyek

2022-04-10 Thread ali mostafavi
Developer of sioyek here.
I have recently made some changes to the build script which should make
packaging for debian easier. I have already packaged it myself and it seems
to be working well (I built it on Ubuntu 21.10 and tested it on a vanilla
Ubuntu 22.04 Beta virtual machine, it might not run on older distros) .
Here is the `debian` folder that I used:

I would prefer if someone else packaged sioyek (mainly because I am a total
noob when it comes to packaging) but if no one is interested maybe I can do
it myself.

Bug#1001715: flatpak needs bash-completion as dependency

2021-12-14 Thread Asif Ali Rizvan
Package: flatpak
Version: 1.10.5-0+deb11u1

flatpak does not do bash completion on pressing tab. After installing
bash-completion package with `sudo apt install bash-completion`; flatpak
works with bash completion.

As flatpak apps have long names it is necessary to have bash completion
functionality.

I'm using:
Debian 5.10.70-1 (2021-09-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Regards,
Rizvan.

Bug#998850: RFS: hipercontracer/1.6.3-1

2021-11-08 Thread Ali Mezgani
Hello,

I saw that in the upstream webpage. FreeBSD port is there, I’m not FreeBSD
developer anymore.
I switched to MacOS. I think that there is not a big difference between FreeBSD
and Darwin.

Whenever I success the build of the package I’ll inform you Thomas.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Bug#978649: lxqt: LXQt Debian VM Install gives two IP addresses on network interface

2020-12-29 Thread Ali Homafar
Package: lxqt
Version: 30
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: home.is...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I have installed Debian Buster and Bullseye as a VM on two different
host PCs and have noticed that when I choose to install the LXQt DE the
VM will be assigned two IPv4 addresses, visible from the `ip a` command.

In both cases the hypervisor was KVM. At no point did I set up a static
IP address, I simply allowed the installer to set up the network
automatically. At first I believed I had mis-configured something or
installed an unusual package, but the same issue happened on a clean
install, where the very first thing I did was open a terminal and check
`ip a`.

This has affected my other hosts on the network because name resolution
will sometimes fail. I am nearly certain this must be some sort of issue
with choosing to install LXQt from the installer. I do not have any sort
of unusual IP assignments on my network from any other operating system,
including Debian installed without LXQt.

Thanks for your time,
Ali Homafar

Bug#934301: ack searches the output file creating a loop

2019-08-09 Thread ali
Package: ack
Version: 2.24-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
 Searching a string in a folder with only a single file in it.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
 I've run "ack Time > time.txt" in a folder that had only one file
 in it (8MB mysql-slow.log.1 to be exact).

   * What was the outcome of this action?
 time.txt file ended up being 14GB in size, filling the disk to 100%
 and crashing the database.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
 A similar outcome with "ack Time mysql-slow.log.1 > time.txt" which
 results in an output 135KB file.

   * To recreate the problem the file that is being searched needs to be
 big enough, the string that is being searched needs to be scarce
 enough and the output filename should not contain the searched
 string. I can provide the file if needed.

wakes up as normal.

When the screen refused to wake up I could CTRL+ALT+F1 to tty1, and kill

Bug#916059: Have the same issue

2019-04-05 Thread Tareeq Ali
Hi Maintainer,

I currently am experiencing the same issue, could it be related to this
issue, in regards to FS with reflinks?

I am running Sid in a BTRFS subvolume. @Maria are you using a FS with
relinks, such as BTRFS or XFS?

Bug#925992: upgrade-reports: Suspend no longer working on Thinkpad X1 Carbon after "dist-upgrade" yesterday

2019-03-29 Thread Ali Sayed
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After running "apt get dist-upgrade" and upgrading to vmlinuz-4.19.0-4-amd64 I
noticed that I can no longer suspend my laptop either by closing the lid or
manually. This used to work before the upgrade. I also noticed that the
touchpad was no longer working with my XFCE desktop.

Upon further investigation I noticed the synaptics touchpad driver was missing
so I installed the package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and rebooted my system.
 I was able to Suspend once right after the reboot but then it no longer works.
 also the tocuhpad worked right after the reboot but not after my repeated
attempts to suspend.

Here is out from "dmesg"

I no longer have the older vmlinuz-4.19.0-2-amd64 kernel on this system to test
if this is a bug due to the new kernel or something else. I will continue to
investigate on my end. I do have acpitool, tp-smapi-dkms and tpb installed.
Additionally XFCE power manager is set to suspend when the lid is closed and
that is no longer working.

thanks
-ali

Bug#902261: sddm: Tap-to-click on laptop trackpad does not work

2018-06-23 Thread Qasim Ali
Package: sddm
Version: 0.14.0-4
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

On my XPS 13 9350 laptop, I'm unable to click on menu items from the login
screen by simply tapping on the trackpad.

Once I log in to KDE, tap-to-click works as configured.

This inconsistent behaviour is confusing and may lead users to think that their
trackpad is not properly supported by Debian.

Hi,

Agent is required by default now but at the same time, we have enabled the
demo-agent to be installed by default and to
auto-start on all non-GNOME desktops. It's been 5 years since geoclue2 was
created, would be nice if other desktops
would implement an agent too. In the meantime, they can use the demo agent I
wrote.

Version: 0.78.4-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

-- When I create a connection all the assigned traffic gets forwarded
including connections that were already established.

1) I get disconnected from my already established ssh
connections.
2) If the remote server is within the IP range the connection
fails unless the server itself is excluded from the ip range.
-- As I've tested in jessie and stretch, only the new connections should
be forwarded to the remote server. Leaving the established connections
intact including the sshuttle connection itself.

Bug#888232: libreoffice-calc using 100% CPU while idle

2018-01-23 Thread Ali Sayed
Package: libreoffice-calc
Version: 1:5.4.4-1
Severity: important
Tags: a11y

Dear Maintainer,

If I launch libreoffice-calc with a small spreadsheet (a shopping list) I
notice the fan on my laptop comes on immediately and 'htop' shows 100% usage on
one core.

I am not even using "Calc" its just open and using up too much CPU. The system
is usable because I have 3 more cores, but its annoying to hear the fan and
seeing that "Calc" is misbehaving like all Microsoft Apps.

I am running on "Testing" so I am sure this will be fixed very soon.

thanks

Bug#879177: Remmina: Not connecting to Windows 7 using RDP connection

2017-10-21 Thread Ali Sayed

Hi Matteo -

Thanks for responding.

i) I installed the "sid" package on "stretch" only to demonstrate that
the latest Remmina actually works on the Stable release.  It can't
really be that bad and I can always remove it without any serious issues.

ii) All that other "mess" is actually needed by "Vinagre" the other RDP
connection client that actually works and allows me to get work done,
since I really have to connect to Windows systems all day long, as much
as I dis-like them ;)

iii) And lastly, now that I have reported this issue, I would really
hope that the package maintainer would do some trouble shooting and
provide a fix, I am really not qualified to debug this issue.  I really
would like to get back to using Remmina, and was happy to see it back in
"testing" except that its not quite working for me.

thanks

-ali

But you shouldn't. Remmina is on its way to enter stretch-backports.
Please avoid using unstable/sid packages in a stretch installation.
Any bug opened ona similar environment will be closed immediately.

Why on earth do you have all that mess installed?
Could you please uninstall all the old freerdp1 packages, uninstall
remmina and its dependencies and reinstall remmina again without
mixing suites?

Thanks.

Cheers.

Bug#862462: RFS: 9wm/1.4.0-1

2017-05-13 Thread Ali Mezgani
Hello,

I don't like the nomenclature chosen by the person whom select software
that will be insert into Debian repository. This is a note since I 'm in
the Debian mentors file.
If a package has a bad name, please ask first the upstream to change it
because we are in obligation to follow the nomenclature's politic of Debian.

If there are no nomenclature clauses, I purpose to Debian to raise a draft
to normalize the packages names selected to be integrated into Debian.

Bug#838853: SSSD error: There is no domain information for SID

2016-09-25 Thread Ali Ibrahim
Package: sssd
Version: 1.11.7-3
Severity: important

Hi,

I have SSSD configured to use the simple access provider and have
restricted which Active Directory groups can login:

$ tail /etc/sssd/sssd.conf

access_provider = simple
simple_allow_groups = linux_domain_users

When I try to login using SSH with a user who is a member of that group,
the connection closes on the server side and this error appears in sssd's
log file:

[simple_check_process_group] (0x0020): There is no domain information for
SID S-1-5-21-3129309019-3453757689-3676435247-1105

However, getent seems to work fine:

$ getent passwd bob

bob:*:1311401108:1311400513:Bob:/home/testing.home/bob:/bin/bash

$ getent group linux_domain_users

linux_domain_users:*:1311401105:bob

I am also able to su into the account as the root user.

Bug#802886: vlc: QT Interface wont full screen or renders only a small portion of the video

2015-10-24 Thread Tareeq Ali
Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.1-4+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When using the QT interface in VLC, I can no longer doubleclick a video and
full screen it.
When playing a video parts of it are masked off/cropped . So only a small area
approximatly 530x290 is visable.
I've disabled overlay with no effect. Resizing the video into the small
visable area is the only way to see the
entire video uncropped.

If I however run the command cvlc the video the full size and have
no issue fullscreening the video.
It seems that the issue might be with QT, but I am unsure how to figure out
what the offending package maybe.

2015-10-09 Thread Tareeq Ali
Hi All,

The systemd 227-2 update now boots into debian correctly and Lightdm loads
at its normal speed, as well I am seeing that the user@105.service is not
taking a long time to load. However I am still seeing that the
systemd-rfkill.service is failing to start.

Bug#790333: gparted will not start, policykit-1 error

2015-06-28 Thread Tareeq Ali
Package: gparted
Version: 0.19.0-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   - Tried to launch gparted
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   - attempted to launch gparted, recieved the following error;
/var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/90-mandatory.d does not exist. Please install
policykit-1
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   - gparted did not lauch
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
   - gparted to launch. However I was able to work around it by manually
creating the 90-mandatory.d directory under /var/lib/policykit-1/localauthority

Sorry if this isn't a gparted bug, let me know and I will open one against
policykit-1.

Bug#776801: fontconfig-config: symlink 70-no-bitmaps.conf is to a non-existing file

2015-03-12 Thread Tareeq Ali
Package: fontconfig-config
Version: 2.11.0-6.3
Followup-For: Bug #776801

Just confirming I ran into this issue as well, I had to resolve it using
dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config. Doing so did link to the correct file Paul
mentioned, and fixed the ugly fonts I was seeing on github.

Bug#747253: Translation of the debian-java-faq in french

2014-05-06 Thread Kilic Ali-Firat
Package: java-common

Hello,

I'm a french student who did the translation of the debian-java-faq. I
finished it and someone on the french list say to me that if I want to
commit the file, I need to send a report bug to the package java-common.

So I finished this translation and I ask if it is possible to commit the po
file. I have some corrections about the po file and now I think that I can
commit the file (there is no more translations to do).

Thanking you in advance,

Bug#702564: RFP: graphtea -- GraphTea is a software framework to work on graphs

2013-03-08 Thread Ali Rostami
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: graphtea
  Version : 1.0.0
  Upstream Author : Ali Rostami rostam...@gmail.com
* URL : http://www.graphtheorysoftware.com
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : GraphTea is a software framework to work on graphs

GraphTea is a software framework to work on graphs and social networks. It
helps you to:

   * draw a graph
   * get reports about it
   * run algorithms on it
   * visualize it

What can you do with graphtea?

   Drawing your graph with mouse or using predefined graphs like trees,
   complete graphs, stars, generalized peterson and etc.

   Getting information about your graphs like num of connected components,
   chromatic number, independence number, girth size, num of triangles and etc.

   Run algorithms step by step on your graph and see how they work. This is
   very useful for teaching graph algorithms. You can pause, and it shows the
   current state of algorithm by coloring edges and vertices.

   Visualizing your graphs. You made a social network from your database
   and want to represent it in a meaningfull way? Use the visualizations.

   Presenting your graphs in your papers, websites or reports. GraphTea
   has a wide range of options to draw graphs, having different colors for
   edges and vertices, different borders, fonts, and sizes and etc. When
   you finish drawing your graph, you can save to a image file or even to a
   Latex document to put in your report, then you can use latexcad app, to
   further refine your graph.

Bug#555168: Unclear license situation for (e)glibc locales provided by you

2012-07-02 Thread Shehzad Ali

Hello Dr. Kreutzmann

I have absolutely no objections to the statement being modified to allow for
modification and re-licensed. Pablo contacted me for help so I have included
his updated e-mail in the reply too. As long as the locale can be updated,
modified and distributed freely for the benefit of everyone I have no
objections :)
 If you require anything else from me please do not hesitate to ask.

 Subject: Unclear license situation for (e)glibc locales provided by you

 Hello,
 you are listed as contact person/author of the following locale:

 ur_PK

 This locale comes with a statement

 % Distribution and use is free, also
 % for commercial purposes.

 Thus it does not allow modification; it is unclear, however, if this
 statement was meant as a license.

 As discussed in
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555168 this
 locale could strictly speaking not be part of Debian which would be a
 great loss. (Currently it is allowed pending investigation).

 To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following
 question:

 Would you be willing to relicense this locale to a proper license,
 e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice?

 If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to
 contact me (via the reply-to address set).

 Thanks for helping to resolve this!

Bug#639977: Mount causes segmentation fault

2011-09-01 Thread Sadique Ali
Package: mount
Version: 2.19.1-5

I recently did a safe upgrade on wheezy. Eversince then, I have been
observing that whenever I boot, I get a segmentation fault error.
I tried mounting my ntfs partitions using 'mount -a' and this is the error I
got:

root@darwish  / mount -va
mount: proc already mounted on /proc
zsh: segmentation fault  mount -va

So I looked to my fstab to see if I can spot anything wrong.
There is a line inside my fstab that looks like this:

proc/proc   procdefaults0   0

I am pretty sure I did not put it there manually and that this particular
line should not cause a segmentation fault. I tried commenting out this line
and ran mount again. The output is given below:

root@darwish  / mount -va
zsh: segmentation fault  mount -va

I tried downgrading to mount 2.17.2-9, and the segmentation fault went away.
I am running Debian wheezy on a 3.0.0-1-686-pae kernel.

* Package name: python-pysvg
  Version : 0.2.1
  Upstream Author : Kerim Mansour info AT codeboje DOT de
* URL : http://codeboje.de/pysvg/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Creating SVG with Python

pySVG is a pure Python library to create SVG documents. Essentially it
is a python wrapper around svg with the goal to allow people to program
svg. pySVG can be used to produce svg as an outcome of algorithms you
implement (like koch curves, Lindenmayr systems etc.)

Working with pySVG is pretty straightforward. There is a small tutorial
in the docs folder but i would suggest refering to the testclasses in
the source.

Current status:
Pretty much all elements should be implemented. Type checking,
validation and value constraints are NOT. In short: currently you can
fill any element with more or less any content. Loading and storing of
SVG images also works.

Features:
* Shapes (circle, ellipses, rectangles, lines, polygons, polylines,paths)
* Text
* Containers (g-element, defs)
* Style attributes (stroke, filling, font)
* Transform (in groups)
* Filters
* Load/Store SVG files

Its a swear thing that in graphic card we find such problem then what we do
further, Can you notify it? and Can you list down this bug??

Waiting for your kind reply

Bug#622184: Applications crash on Drag and Drop

2011-04-10 Thread Sadique Ali
Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.24.3-1

I recently upgraded to wheezy, by pointing apt at 'wheezy' instead of
'squeeze'. Eversince then, I have been observing that whenever I do a 'drag
and drop' operation, the application crashes.
I noticed this behaviour in several applications, including:

* PCManFM
* chromium-browser
* File Roller

I ran chromium-browser from the terminal and saw this error:
  symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
g_slist_free_full

I also noticed that several Python-GTK based applications also crash with
the same error. For example, launching the music player Exaile from the
console throws up the following error log:

  File /usr/lib/exaile/exaile.py, line 62, in module
main()
  File /usr/lib/exaile/exaile.py, line 59, in main
exaile = main.Exaile()
  File /usr/lib/exaile/xl/main.py, line 84, in __init__
self.mainloop_init()
  File /usr/lib/exaile/xl/main.py, line 501, in mainloop_init
import gtk
  File /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py, line 40, in
module
from gtk import _gtk
ImportError: /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
g_slist_free_full

I am running Debian wheezy on an i386 box.

I removed the old Glib from /usr/local/lib and things are working fine now.
Drag and drop works and the Python-GTK apps no longer crash.
Thank You Josselin!

 You have an outdated version of GLib installed on your system. Please
 clean it up. It’s probably in /usr/local/lib, you can see the actual
 location using “ldd /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0”.

Bug#512214: gamin: gam_server consumes full CPU

2010-04-27 Thread Ali Sayed
Hello -

I have noticed the same thing on my Squeeze AMD64 system, not sure when exactly
this started happening but its made a perfectly usable Athlon 64 machine almost
useless. I killed /usr/lib/gamin/gam_server but it started up again.

The solution presented (modify /etc/gamin/gaminrc ) might be acceptable in
unstable but I don't think its a fix in testing.

I have also noticed that Thunar and Pcmanfm will not browse directories deeper
than one or two levels since I ran apt-get update a few days ago. These 2 might
be related issues.

My last apt-get update was on Mon Apr 26 14:14:39 2010.

I've used Debian since version 2.0 and never filed a bug, but this is annoying
enough to make me file one...

thanks

-ali
