Bug#956330: apt: Provide option to prompt on apt install foo whether foo should be marked manually installed

2020-04-09 Thread annadane
Package: apt
Version: 1.8.2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I'm just wondering whether for Deb 11 we might provide an option for users to
perhaps, be prompted when they apt install foo and foo is already installed, to
*ask* whether they intend to mark it manually installed. I find most of the
time when I do that, as opposed to apt-mark manual foo, it's because I've made
a mistake and forgotten or not noticed I already had something installed, not
because I want to set it to manual. apt-mark manual foo might work the same as
it always does but as said it would be nice to prompt the user when they apt
install a package like this

Bug#949786: thunar: "Use a custom command" doesn't work to open a file

2020-01-24 Thread annadane
Package: thunar
Version: 1.8.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

In thunar (debian stable), right clicking a file and entering something in "use
a custom command" does not open the file. I was trying to open image files with
feh -B black but I suspect this is true of any file. XFCE's "mime type editor"
in the applications menu does work to set all future associations, but anyway,
this does not

2019-05-20 Thread annadane

Bug#906114: Suggestion: Add "any" as the default under package search

Dear Maintainer,

Personally, I tend to always look for packages on packages.debian.org in ANY
release (stable, testing, unstable, backports, etc). The default is "stable",
only giving you stable results. It would be a nice idea to include "any" by
default.

Bug#902653: unattended-upgrades: Please do not auto enable upon install

2018-06-29 Thread annadane
Package: unattended-upgrades
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

If it were possible, I'd like to see unattended-upgrades not enable itself by
default when the user first installs it. I'm actually not sure what the default
is when you specifically tell it to install - aka "apt install
unattended-upgrades", but in any event I feel it should a) be off by default
unless the user specifically configures it to be on and more importantly b)
some packages have unattended-upgrades as a dependency or in recommends (I've
noticed it gets installed sometimes as an effect of installing some other
packages) - in that case ESPECIALLY it should really *not* be enabled by
default. Just my 2 cents. This also happens in Sid (it's not as catastrophic in
Stable though it can be) where one really wants to vet one's updates as there's
higher chance of breakage.

Dear Maintainer,

The page https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ says: "To install
Debian testing, we recommend you use the Buster Alpha 2 release of the
installer, after checking its errata."

The general recommended way as I understand it to install testing is just to
upgrade the system from a minimal stable install; in my opinion consider
removing that section from the website, even with the errata the installer can
be broken in ways not listed. Which is fine, if the goal is to test the
installer, but as I said, a more foolproof way is likely to just upgrade from a
minimal stable.

Bug#892430: unattended-upgrades: Disabling unattended-upgrades and removing leaves apt update flag not set

2018-03-08 Thread annadane
Package: unattended-upgrades
Version: 1.0
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I had installed the pk-update-icon package which also installed and enabled
unattended-upgrades. I did not want this in Debian Sid so I disabled and then
apt removed unattended-upgrades.

I then would only get updated packages in general if I typed "apt update"
manually. It turns out that turning off unattended-upgrades turns off all
updates in general in an automatic way. I was of course still able to manually
check the mirrors via apt update and get my updates in that way.

The solution to this in my particular case was that after unattended-upgrades
was turned off and subsequently removed, to apt purge unattended-upgrades.

this is unintentional? There doesn't seem to be anything to toggle it in the

Bug#881312: libreoffice-report-builder depends on libreoffice-report-builder-bin which is already installed

2017-11-09 Thread annadane
Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:5.4.3~rc1-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When trying to do a libreoffice upgrade, I get the following:
libreoffice-report-builder : Depends: libreoffice-report-builder-bin (>=
1:5.4.3) but 1:5.4.3~rc1-2 is installed. apt-cache policy
libreoffice-report-builder-bin shows the installed version and the candidate
version being the same (1:5.4.3-rc1-2) and libreoffice-report-builder-bin is
listed in the tracker as being included with this update
(https://tracker.debian.org/news/885045).

Bug#881305: wiki.debian.org: Wiki page for Spotify lists libssl1.0.0 in the Stretch section but not available in Stretch

2017-11-09 Thread annadane
Package: wiki.debian.org
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

On the wiki page for Spotify (https://wiki.debian.org/spotify), in the section
for Debian Stretch, it says to download the libssl1.0.0 package, which is an
issue because 1) It provides a Jessie link and 2) That package is not available
in Stretch.

Bug#880946: chessx: Clicking board pieces in board setup mode makes program unresponsive

2017-11-05 Thread annadane
Package: chessx
Version: 1.4.6-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When I go into board setup mode, clicking pieces to put them on the board gives
the "red circle with a line through it" icon and "freezes" the mouse, making me
unable to click on anything else in the program and indeed, freezing the mouse
in general. Only being able to go to the process manager and killing chessx
that way will close the window and free up the mouse. I am using KDE Plasma.
