Bug#947123: apt package list in resulting system cannot be cleared using hooks, increases the image size

Sorry for the late reply,

Passing the option "--apt-indices false" to "lb config", is indeed the
correct solution, confirmed by

and my own build results (saved 178MB of APT indices in the squashfs)

Bug#944188: /etc/msmtprc password disclosure

2021-06-19 Thread nodiscc
Hi,
I recently switched from the old, world-readable /etc/msmtprc file, to
root:msmtp ownership+sgid bit

After quickly reading this bug report I think the best solution is to
warn about this limitation in the docs (and maybe changelog).

> ...
> # chmod 0640 /etc/msmtprc
> # chgrp msmtp /etc/msmtprc
>
> And the msmtp binary can be "setgid" to execute as the "msmtp" group.

> If the SMTP credentials need better protection, please consider a
> different MTA like exim or postfix that offer clear security
> boundaries.

I think the current sgid mechanism is still better than having the
file world-readable
(an attacker must be able to execute arbitrary commands instead of
just being able to
read world-readable files)

The sgid bit itself can also probably be abused (because the program
is not written
in a safe/paranoid way) to run arbitrary commands as effective group id msmtp,
but as far a I know the only special privileges for this group in a
standard install is
to, well, read /etc/msmtprc

I'd like to send a patch for the documentation, but where is the
Debian package source?
I found 4 msmtp repositories on salsa.debian.org, is it this one?
https://salsa.debian.org/kolter/msmtp

Thanks

Bug#979257: rabbitvcs-gedit plugin does not load on gedit 3.8+

- install rabbitrvcs-gedit and gedit packages, run gedit

I think the plugin needs to be ported to python3

Hello,

I just ran sudo apt purge flatpak, which resulted in flatpak* and

It seems related as after uninstalling gdb, I no longer get these messages.
Instead:

No, it also crashes with the same error messages

Dear maintainer,

gnome-builder does not start at all when the flatpak package is not
installed, and returns code 255. gneom-builder *recommends*
flatpak-builder which in turns depends on flatpak, but if you have

flatpak should be a hard dependency for the gnome-builder package.

Bug#947123: apt package list in resulting system cannot be cleared using hooks, increases the image size

2019-12-21 Thread nodiscc
Package: live-build
Version: 1:20190311
Debian 10 Buster

Dear Maintainer,

I noticed that the /var/lib/apt/lists/ directory in the squashfs
contains about 162MB of files after the build. This makes my ISO image
slightly larger than the expected max size of 2GB (small USB drives,
ISO hosting restrictions). My config/archives/debian.list.chroot:

deb https://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-free
deb https://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-free
deb https://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-backports main contrib non-free

In an attempt to decrease the size of the ISO image, I added this to
config/hooks/normal/0900-clear-apt-cache.hook.chroot and made it
executable:

#!/bin/sh
# clear APT package download cache to reduce the image size
rm -vr /var/lib/apt/lists/

By reading build.log I can confirm that the hook does run during the
process; and clears out the directory, however one of the following
build steps must have put those files in place again, because they are
still present in the squashfs/live system.

I can see the following solutions:
- Something is wrong with my hook (what?) and I should correct it
- live-build should implement a built-in way to clear
/var/lib/apt/lists before the squashfs is generated
- live-build should implement a way to run custom hooks just before
the squashfs is generated

Workarounds very welcome, thanks in advance

Bug#945602: wrong path for constants.xml/presets.xml prevent the program from starting

Bug#945602: wrong path for constants.xml/presets.xml prevent the program from starting

2019-11-27 Thread nodiscc
Package: qwinff
Version: 0.2.1-1
Severity: grave

Steps to reproduce the problem:
 - run qwinff from the desktop launcher of from a terminal emulator

What happens:
 - An error dialog is shown with the message "Cannot load
/home/user/constants.xml. The program will exit now."
 - In addition, when qwinff is launched from a terminal, there is the
error "Failed to read file: "/home/user/constants.xml"
 - Clicking the "Ok" button closes the error message, but the program
is in fact still running (appears in ps aux output/task managers).
When run from a terminal it does not give back STDIN unless I
stop/kill/Ctrl+C it

Workaround:
 - a quick search reveals a file /usr/share/qwinff/constants.xml.
Copying this file to /home/user/constants.xml makes the error message
disappear. A second message is shown about missing presets.xml, the
same workaround can be applied (it's also in /usr/share/qwinff/)

Suggested fix:
I don't know. The makefile
(https://github.com/qwinff/qwinff/blob/master/Makefile#L65)
explicitely says to install these files in $(DATA_PATH) so I assume
this path was incorrectly set when the package was built. Rebuild and
test this time :)

Severity grave because the program does not work at all by default
unless you find the workaround.

Thank you in advance

Bug#922679: Locking screen with light-locker/nvidia-driver crashes system to blinking cursor

2019-03-23 Thread nodiscc
Hi,
did you have some time to have a look at this?

I encountered a minor problem when using 'update-glx glx'
(https://packages.debian.org/sid/update-glx package), which updates
the glx alternative but does not remove the nvidia entry from
xorg.conf

I still think it would be good to have automatically generated (maybe
make it optional through a debconf dialog?).

@anbe, ping

Bug#922679: Locking screen with light-locker/nvidia-driver crashes system to blinking cursor

2019-02-22 Thread nodiscc
Hi Andreas,

> Does it already work with just this minimal xorg.conf:

Yes I just confirmed having this single section in xorg.conf makes the
problem go away:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
EndSection

The xorg.conf generated by nvidia-xconfig also had "ServerLayout"
"InputDevice" "Monitor" and "Screen" sections.
I have not noticed any problem with these sections removed.

Bug#922679: Locking screen with light-locker/nvidia-driver crashes system to blinking cursor

2019-02-19 Thread nodiscc
Package: nvidia-driver
Version: 390.87-8~deb9u1

Dear maintainer,

as mentioned in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=868087
and https://github.com/the-cavalry/light-locker/issues/77, there is a problem
when using a combination of the proprietary nvidia-driver + light-locker +
lightdm: when locking the screen, the login/unlock screen is never shown.
Instead we are sent to a console screen with only a fast blinking cursor.
Changing vtty with Ctrl+Alt+F1...F7 does not work and only rebooting allows
getting back a login screen.

The solution I found was simply to generate a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file using
'sudo nvidia-xconfig'.

The docs at https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers suggest it is no
longer needed to run nvidia-xconfig, but for me it was. After running it,
the screen locking mechanism immediately started working correctly.

Maybe the wiki should recommend running sudo nvidia-xconfig anyway to avoid
such problems? It would be even better if the nvidia-driver package's
postinst script did it automatically.

Bug#868087: light-locker: Locking screen with light-locker crashes system to blinking cursor

2019-02-19 Thread nodiscc
Hi,

I was having the same problem after installing the proprietary nvidia
drivers (nvidia-driver 390.87-8~deb9u1 from backports) with light-locker
and lightdm.
Locking the screen (I use xflock4 from Xfce but any other locking command
had the same effect) would send me to a black screen with a fast blinking
cursor.
Using Ctrl+Alt+F1...F7 to change vtty would not work (vtty would appear for
a very short time and I was sent back to the blinking cursor).

The solution I found was simply to generate a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file using
'sudo nvidia-xconfig'.

The docs at https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers suggests it is no
longer needed to run nvidia-xconfig, but for me it was. After running it,
the screen locking mechanism immediately started working correctly.

Maybe the wiki should recommend running sudo nvidia-xconfig anyway to avoid
such problems? It would be even better if the nvidia-driver package's
postinst script did it automatically. I will report this to nvidia-driver
maintainers.

Bug#678340: gnome-packagekit: Update information is not refreshed

2019-02-12 Thread nodiscc
I can confirm that this bug was fixed for me by installing
apt-config-auto-update (I am on Xfce).

The gnome-packagekit package should probably depend on/recommend
gnome-settings-daemon |apt-config-auto-update so that it works
out-of-the-box.

Bug#749019: Bug#881811:

2019-02-10 Thread nodiscc
So the solution to this would to update the Debian package to use vnstat
2.1 (the update is detected by https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/vnstat). It
would be nice to have this in Debian before the buster freeze, but
https://release.debian.org/buster/freeze_policy.html states that

> Starting 2019-02-12, only *small, targeted fixes* are appropriate for
buster
> Please note that new transitions or large/disruptive changes are not
appropriate.

So given that the CLI interface seems to have changed between the 2 major
versions I don't know if it would be accepted in buster before the
freeze... Even though it fixes this bug... I'm CCing the maintainer as it
would be nice to have an answer from his side.

Thanks for your quick reply

Bug#749019:

2019-02-09 Thread nodiscc
Hi, this is a reply to bug 749019 and bug 881811, which stem from the same
problem in the vnstat Debian package:

 - /lib/systemd/system/vnstat.service defines User=vnstat as the user to
run run vnstat under
 - The recommended way to start tracking a network interface and create its
database file is: sudo vnstat -u -i ethX. This creates a db file owned by
root:root, mode 0644.
 - Hence the vnstatd process cannot write to this file, and the db is never
updated.

The solution to this is to either chown -R vnstat:vnstat /var/lib/vnstat,
or use sudo -u vnstat when creating the db. But all this requires manual
intervention that is not documented anywhere.

Ideally it would be automated or documented.

We had a discussion on IRC on how to best fix this. At first there was an
attempt to use DaemonUser "vnstat" DaemonGroup "vnstat" and removing
User=vnstat from the systemd unit file. But even then you have to systemctl
restart vnstat for it to fix the db file permissions. So also manual.

I think a good and simple fix is to install the /var/lib/vnstat/ directory
with sgid bit set. That way any file created there would have correct
permissions.

This bug prevents vnstat from working completly if the user doesn't do
their research. So I would be happy for it to be fixed.

Dear maintainer, please let us know how you'd prefer this to be fixed.

Thanks

Dear Maintainer,

the thunar-data Debian package ships with a "Send to" helper for
gnome-bluetooth:
https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/desktop/thunar/blob/master/debian/gnome-obex-send.desktop
but it is missing "Send to" targets to play/enqueue files/directories in
popular media
players. I made 5 .desktop files I made for purpose. Please consider including
them in the package?

It adds the possiblity to send whole directories/sets of files to
mpv/vlc/audacious for
playback/add to playlist.

Bug#885939: [marionnet] Crash on startup: fixed in sid (0.90.6+bzr508)

2018-02-13 Thread nodiscc
The bug looks fixed in marionnet_0.90.6+bzr508.orig.tar.gz. Though I
have not actually tested this version, only checked the source
tarball.

https://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/marionnet/marionnet_0.90.6+bzr457.orig.tar.gz/usr/share/marionnet/images/launcher-icons/marionnet-launcher.png
is corrupted for me and some people on #debian IRC. The one in
marionnet_0.90.6+bzr508.orig.tar.gz works fine.

After applying the fix I suggested earlier (optipng), the program
starts but displays a bunch of other error messages and UI items are
missing. At this point I'll assume it's unusable for me on stable,
I'll wait for the next release.

On https://bugs.launchpad.net/marionnet/+bug/1580349 someone stated
having a similar problem on Arch Linux. Other image viewers also have
trouble opening this file (eog, ristretto...). Applying the following
fix makes the program start properly:

find /usr/share/marionnet/images/ -iname '*.png' -exec sudo optipng -fix

I hope the debian package could be patched in a similar way because the
program simply doesn't start without this fix.

Bug#783875: No multi-arch

2017-07-31 Thread nodiscc
Would it be acceptable to show a debconf dialog/warning to the user?
For example

```
playonlinux requires a 32-bit installation of wine
Please make sure multi-arch is enabled:
dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt update
And install the wine:i386 package:
apt install wine:i386
```

I spent some time debugging this before finding the bug report.
To make matters worse the playonlinux message is very vague.
I think reminding users to manually install a dependency would help
many.

MapMap is a free/open source video mapping software.

Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality,
is a projection
technology used to turn objects, often irregularly shaped, into a display
surface for video
projection. These objects may be complex industrial landscapes, such as
buildings. By using
specialized software, a two or three dimensional object is spatially mapped on
the virtual
program which mimics the real environment it is to be projected on. The
software can interact
with a projector to fit any desired image onto the surface of that object. This
technique is
used by artists and advertisers alike who can add extra dimensions, optical
illusions, and
notions of movement onto previously static objects. The video is commonly
combined with, or
triggered by, audio to create an audio-visual narrative.

  Upstream Author : Johan Gunnarsson
* URL : https://github.com/johang/btfs

  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : bittorrent filesystem - mount any .torrent file as a read-

With BTFS, you can mount any .torrent file or magnet link and then use it as
any read-only directory in your file tree. The contents of the files will be
downloaded on-demand as they are read by applications. Tools like ls, cat and
cp works as expected. Applications like vlc and mplayer can also work without
changes.
Example usage

$ mkdir mnt
$ btfs video.torrent mnt
$ cd mnt
$ vlc video.mp4

Bug#808942: xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin: Does not respect GTK theme colors/icon set

2015-12-24 Thread nodiscc
Package: xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin
Version: 0.2.4-1
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream

Hello,
the XFCE panel applet provided by xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin does not respect the
current GTK theme background color, neither the icon theme (see attached
screenshot).

In this particular case the panel background is dark, so fixing only the
applet's background color would result in an unreadable icon (dark on dark) -
the 2 issues have to be fixed jointly.

Thank you

Bug#799970: RFP: angrysearch -- Linux file search, instant results as you type

2015-09-24 Thread nodiscc
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: angrysearch
  Version : 0.9.4
  Upstream Author : DoTheEvo
* URL : https://github.com/DoTheEvo/ANGRYsearch
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Linux file search, instant results as you type

Attempt at making Linux version of Everything Search Engine, or MasterSeeker,
or Hddb File Search, because no one else bothered. Everyone seems to be damn
content with linux file searches which are slow, populating results as they go,
cli based only, heavily integrated with a file manager, limited to home
directory, or are trying to be everything with full-text file's content search.
Done in python 3 using PyQt5 for GUI, PyQt4 branch exists

Screenshots at https://github.com/DoTheEvo/ANGRYsearch

Lite mode vs Full mode

ANGRYsearch can be set to two different modes in its config, default being lite

lite mode will not index size of files and date of last modification, it
shows only items name and path
full mode shows size and date of the last modification, the drawback is
that indexing takes roughly two times longer since every file and folder gets
additional stats calls during indexing

What you should know:

   * by default the search results are bound to the beginning of the words
presented in the names
   * it would not find "Pirates" or Whiplash", but it would "Pirates" or
"The-Fifth"
   * unchecking the checkbox in the top right corner fixes this, but searching
gets slower
   * database is in ~/.cache/angrysearch/angry_database.db
   * config file is in ~/.config/angrysearch/angrysearch.conf
   * it can take ~2 min to index ~1 mil files(depending on hdd/ssd) and the
database might be ~300MB in size in lite mode
   * it is not recommended to run as root, there's no reason for it and you
might crawl where you would rather not, like Btrfs users going in to snapshots
   * xdg-open is used to open the files based on their mimetype, default
applications can be set in ~/.local/share/applications/ in mimeapps.list and
defaults.list

 Please request this @ new upstream:

 Btw. some of your patchsets were already in the Debian package and
 some have already been applied upstream. Since upstream is alive
 again I would prefer not to add Debian specific patches.

 Package: tint2
 Severity: normal

 Hello, the current upstream for tint2 is https://code.google.com/p/tint2/

 As you can see, the project is inactive (no updates since 2012), and bugs
 and feature requests are left open. The last updates can be listed at:
 https://code.google.com/feeds/p/tint2/svnchanges/basic

 I've found an updated fork at https://github.com/chazmcgarvey/tint2/,
 which
 repo provides several patches for tint2, adding the following enhancements
 and bug fixes:

 https://github.com/chazmcgarvey/tint2/commit/1aea2f679d269af1facc9f80870793bb43126703
 fix clock to update even if it is on line two (bugfix)

 https://github.com/chazmcgarvey/tint2/commit/9f7b8f30f440c4ba7d9894458fa92dfa4344db03
 https://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/detail?id=381
 New config parameter launcher_apps_dir:
 ..desktop launchers placed in the configured directory will be
 automatically added
 to tint2's program launchers section. This provides a simpler way to add
 launchers.
 (in upstream tint2, you had to add one launcher_item_app directive per
 launcher in the config file)

 https://github.com/chazmcgarvey/tint2/commit/aafb2db7a1f2b69f4f33b4c041e4c1452947daa5
 https://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/detail?id=382
 Adds a new separator/freespace object:
 Adding 'F' to the panel_items directive now places a separator/freespace
 that
 takes the maximum available space. Useful to condense task lists on the
 left/right
 side of the panel.

 Can you consider adding these patches to the Debian package? Upstream
 developers
 seem to have abandoned the project and do not respond to patch requests.

 Thanks in advance

Bug#726230: iceweasel: broken geolocation due to missing google api key

2015-02-04 Thread nodiscc
Hello, I can confirm this is still a problem on Iceweasel 35.

Switching to Mozilla's Location Services seems the best way forward.
They currently do not require a valid API key
(https://location.services.mozilla.com/v1/geolocate?key=test does work,
though the Debian Mozilla team could reach them to see if there's a
requirement for using their services on a large scale). The coverage is
very decent https://location.services.mozilla.com/map and is getting
better thanks to user contributions. The published data is also under a
Creative Commons license
(https://wiki.mozilla.org/CloudServices/Location/FAQ) which I believe is
DFSG-compliant.

The base documentation for the Mozilla Location Service can be found at
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Services/Location

I hope Debian switches to MLS for privacy and openness reasons.

Thanks for your work

Bug#769996: debian-installer: Possible help text for win32diskimager users

2014-11-25 Thread nodiscc
Hello, thanks for replying.
Can you explain a bit what would be wrong with these instructions?

 * I get that it's a bit out of scope for a Debian technical manual.
 * On the other hand, it would help many people installing Debian. (IRC
channels on oftc and freenode get hammered with this question)
 * win32diskimager is Free software, so we don't break the guidelines here.

I'd be fine with just a link to a wiki page in the manual:
See the PreparingInstallFromWindows wiki page for instructions on how to
prepare the installation media for a Windows machine
But the wiki is world editable so anyone could slip wrong instructions
there.

Any other opinion/solution is welcome.

Thanks again.

Bug#770228: tumbler: Tumbler uses huge amounts of RAM/IO/CPU on some files

2014-11-19 Thread nodiscc
Package: tumbler
Version: 0.1.30-1+b1
Severity: normal

Hello, I'm copying the contents of
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11244 here,
in the hope that is a debian-specific bug, or that the maintainer could help
fixing it.
I've been told on #xfce on IRC that some people are unable to reproduce this
bug.

Hi, this is along standing problem with tumbler. The tumblerd process to uses
huge amounts of RAM (more than 800 Mb) when thumbailing some files, like the
attached animated GIF file (only 458kb). This also consumes a large percentage
of IO (70% is common), and increases CPU load (about 60% on my Centrino
@1.66GHz)

Bugs that look related:
 * https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9954
 * https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9231
 * https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10876
 * https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4955
 * https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7494

This is rather serious as it
 * makes the system unresponsive (hard to even move the mouse cursor) due to
intense swapping and IO.
 * is triggered by merely browsing a directory with such a file in it.
 * can be used to DoS a machine (simply send them that file).

Tested on several machines, i386 and amd64 architectures, up to tumbler
0.1.30-1+b1 (Debian testing/unstable) Hope there's something to be done. Maybe
put an arbitrary limit on the memory tumblerd is allowed to use

Thanks

---

Still no reply on this?

I've hit this bug a lot during the past month, I now always have a terminal
windows open with 'killall -9 tumblerd' ready to hit enter when I browse a
directory containing gif files.

Please have a look at this. Disabling thumbnailing for gifs would be
acceptable. Or use another thumbnailer that doesn't have this bug.

Bumping importance so hopefully this gets noticed.
Thanks in advance.

Tumbler 0.1.30-1+b1 in Debian

-

Attaching the strace output of the operation: http://pastebin.com/jAk1H1Tz

Steps to reproduce:
 * Download the example gif in a ~/test/ directory with 'wget
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=5699 -O crash.gif'
 * Prepare a terminal window with 'killall -9 tumblerd'
 * find tumberd's pid, attach strace to it with 'strace -p $pid' (prints up to
line 3 in the output)
 * run 'thunar ~/test/', strace prints lines starting from 4
 * try to refocus the terminal window with the killall command despite furious
lag, hit enter.

I had an htop window displayed that showed tumblerd spiking to 63%+ of RAM
usage. Unreliable as it was not refreshing.

---

(By the way, I've tried disabling GIF thumbnailing as a workaround, by editing
/etc/xdg/tumbler/tumbler.rc, but disabling the relevant thumbnailer
[PixbufThumbnailer]
also disables thubnailing for other image formats, which works fine and is
useful)

Hope this can be fixed.
Thanks again

This is basically a simpler/command-line alternative to Popcorn-time
(RFP: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=741972, Homepage:
http://popcorntime.io/)

Running perfectly on debian Jessie.
I've packaged it using fpm (https://github.com/jordansissel/fpm):
  sudo aptitude install rubygems build-essential libopenssl-ruby ruby1.8-dev
  sudo gem install fpm
  fpm -s npm -t deb peerflix

(though the package quality is totally unsuitable for inclusion in the debian
repos)

It would also be fairly easy to write a graphical wrapper for this.

Bug#753653: RFP: tmsu -- command-line file tagging tooI and tag-based virtual filesystem

2014-07-03 Thread nodiscc
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: tmsu
  Version : 0.4.2
  Upstream Author : Paul Ruane p...@tmsu.org.
* URL : http://tmsu.org/
* License : GPLv3
  Programming Lang: Go
  Description : command-line file tagging tooI and tag-based
virtual filesystem

TMSU is a tool for tagging your files. It provides a simple
command-line tool for applying tags and a virtual filesystem so that
you can get a tag-based view of your files from within any other
program.

TMSU does not alter your files in any way: they remain unchanged on
disk, or on the network, wherever you put them. TMSU maintains its own
database and you simply gain an additional view, which you can mount,
based upon the tags you set up. The only commitment required is your
time and there's absolutely no lock-in

Features:
* Tagging Files: Use the tag command to apply tags to files: $ tmsu
tag summer.mp3 music
* Merging tags: merging an accidentally created umsic tag into the
existing music tag: $ tmsu merge umsic music
* Specify values for tags: $ tmsu tag spring.mp3 year=2003; tmsu tag
summer.mp3 year=2008
 * Listing Tags: $ tmsu tags summer.mp3
 *  Listing Files: $ tmsu files mp3; $ tmsu files mp3 big-jazz; tmsu
files (mp3 or flac) and not big-jazz; tmsu files year = 2010; tmsu
files music and year = 2000 and year 2010
 * Virtual File-System

$ mkdir mp
$ tmsu mount mp
$ ls mp
queries
tags
$ ls mp/tags
big-jazz mp3 music
$ ls -l mp/tags/music
drwxr-xr-x 0 paul paul 0 2012-04-13 20:00 big-jazz
drwxr-xr-x 0 paul paul 0 2012-04-13 20:00 mp3
drwxr-xr-x 0 paul paul 0 2012-04-13 20:00 spring.2.mp3 -
/home/paul/spring.mp3
drwxr-xr-x 0 paul paul 0 2012-04-13 20:00 summer.1.mp3 -
/home/paul/summer.mp3
drwxr-xr-x 0 paul paul 0 2012-04-13 20:00 winter.3.mp3 -
/home/paul/winter.mp3

Files in the virtual file-system are actually just symbolic links back
to the tagged file's real location elsewhere on the file-system. This
means they can be used just like regular files from any application: $
acmeplayer mp/tags/music/summer.1.mp3

 * Queries: In addition to the tags view, there is also a queries
directory in which you can run view queries just like those we ran
earlier with the files command.

$ ls mp/queries
README.md
$ mkdir mp/queries/mp3 and not folk
$ ls mp/queries/mp3 and not folk
summer.1.mp3
winter.3.mp3

BleuFear is a GTK 2/3 theme with a wild streak of electric blue. It is inspired
by the design of my site and everything else that fits that color scheme. The
name comes from the French word for blue(duh) and the way Americans pronounce

Bug#749887: RFP: syncthing -- decentralized file synchronization tool

2014-05-30 Thread nodiscc
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: syncthing
  Version : 0.8.12
  Upstream Author : Jakob Borg ja...@nym.se
* URL : http://syncthing.net/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Go
  Description : decentralized file synchronization tool

Syncthing replaces Dropbox and BitTorrent Sync with something open, trustworthy
and decentralized. Your data is your data alone and you deserve to choose where
it is stored, if it is shared with some third party and how it's transmitted
over the Internet.

Using syncthing, that control is returned to you

 * Private. None of your data is ever stored anywhere else than on your
computers. There is no central server that might be compromised, legally or
illegally.
 * Encrypted. All communication is secured using TLS. The encryption used
includes perfect forward secrecy to prevent any eavesdropper from ever gaining
access to your data.
 * Authenticated. Every node is identified by a strong cryptographic
certificate. Only nodes you have explicitly allowed can connect to your cluster
 * Web GUI. Configure and monitor Syncthing via a responsive and powerful
interface accessible via your browser.
 * Portable. Works on Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris. Run it on
your desktop computers and synchronize them with your server for backup.
 * Simple. Syncthing doesn't need IP addresses or advanced configuration: it
just works, over LAN and over the Internet. Every machine is identified by an
ID. Just give your ID to you friends, share a folder and watch: uPnP will do if
you don't want to port forward or you don't know how.
 * Powerful. Synchronize as many folders as you need with different people.

Bug#746504: doesn't work anymore with recent file-roller

2014-05-20 Thread nodiscc
Package: thunar-archive-plugin
Version: 0.3.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #746504

From thunar-archive-plugin's README:

The .tap and .desktop files should have the same basename, otherwise the
thunar-archive-plugin is not able to find the appropriate .tap
file for an archive manager. For example, if the name of the .desktop file is
ark.desktop, the .tap file must be named ark.tap.

Currently file-roller installs the file
/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop (previously named
file-roller.desktop)
So the solution is to add
/usr/lib/$ARCH-linux-gnu/thunar-archive-plugin/org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop
(which is the same file as
file-roller.tap and gnome-file-roller.tap in the same directory). Symlinking
works, but I'll attach a copy of the file anyway.

Please add this to the debian package source, as this bugs completely breaks
thunar-archive-plugins with file-roller,

Thanks

Bug#748691: virtualbox: does not ship vboxautostart-service init script, can't start VMs at system boot

2014-05-19 Thread nodiscc
Package: virtualbox
Version: 4.3.10-dfsg-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

The current virtualbox debian package does not ship
/etc/init.d/vboxautostart-service , which allows to start VMs at system boot.
Without this init script, the procedure described at
https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch09.html#autostart does not work. (no
virtual machines are started during boot process)

I've manually installed the script from
https://www.virtualbox.org/browser/vbox/trunk/src/VBox/Installer/linux/vboxautostart-service.sh?format=raw
and it is fully working, without modifications.

Could you include this init script in the Debian package?

Thanks in advance

2014-05-13 Thread nodiscc
Strange, mpsyt --version reports 0.3.31, but I have 0.3.41 installed
from unstable:

↳ apt-cache policy python-pafy
python-pafy:
  Installed: 0.3.41-2

  Version table:
 *** 0.3.41-2 0
200 http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Uh I think I got it. I had installed pms-youtube and pafy from pip a
while ago. Had to pip uninstall pafy to get mpsyt to use 0.3.41
installed through APT. It works fine with 0.3.41.

I think this can be closed, thanks for your help!

 Hm, the python-pafy version in Debian unstable is 0.3.41 so update to that
 one please
 and report if there is any problem.

 Just out of curiosity - how/where did you manage to get 0.3.31?

Bug#746816: gnome-packagekit: Untranslated .desktop launcher

2014-05-03 Thread nodiscc
Package: gnome-packagekit
Version: 3.10.1-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch l10n
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

Dear Maintainer,

The 'Name' field in /usr/share/applications/gpk-application.desktop was
previously correctly translated to french.
In 3.10.1-1 it is no longer translated (note that the 'Description[fr]' is
still ok), instead the english name 'Packages' appears.

Attaching a patch, please take some time to apply it. Many thanks

Bug#745669: RFP: pnmixer -- Volume mixer for the system tray

2014-04-23 Thread nodiscc
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pnmixer
  Version : 0.5.1
  Upstream Author : Nick Lanham https://github.com/nicklan
* URL : https://github.com/nicklan/pnmixer
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Volume mixer for the system tray

PNMixer is a simple mixer application designed to run in your system tray. It
integrates nicely into desktop environments that don't have a panel that
supports applets, and therefore can't run a mixer applet. In particular it's
been used quite a lot with fbpanel and tint2, but should run fine in any system
tray.

PNMixer is a fork of OBMixer with a number of additions. These include:

 * Volume adjustment with the scroll wheel
 * Select which ALSA device and channel to use
 * Detect disconnect from sound system and re-connect if requested
 * Bind and use HotKeys for volume control
 * Texual display of volume level in popup window
 * Continous volume adjustment when dragging the slider (not just when you
let go)
 * Draw a volume level onto system tray icon
 * Use system icon theme for icons and use mute/low/medium/high volume icons
 *   Configurable middle click action
 *   Preferences for:
 *   volume text display
 *   volume text position
 *   icon theme
 * amount to adjust per scoll
 *   middle click action
 * drawing of volume level on tray icon

Note from the reporter: much better than volumeicon in my opinion. Very stable,
it has a handy right click menu from which you can summon a more complete mixer
 - pavucontrol in my case. There are deb packages already compiled for
Crunchbang (a Debian derivative) at
http://packages.crunchbang.org/waldorf/pool/main/
I used both i386 and amd64 versions and they work very well, if you want to
have a try.

Simple chat program using near ultrasonic frequencies. Works without Wifi or

Note: If you can clearly hear the send script working then your speakers may
not be high quality enough to produce sounds in the near ultrasonic range.
Run python send.py in one terminal window and python listen.py in another. Text

Suitable for any kind of data organization, such as Todo lists, calendars,

It's like a spreadsheet, immediately familiar, but much more suitable for

It's like an outliner, but in more than one dimension.
It's like a text editor, but with structure.

  Description : Command-line productivity booster, offers quick access to
files and directories, inspired by autojump, z and v.

Fasd (pronounced similar to fast) is a command-line productivity booster.
Fasd offers quick access to files and directories for POSIX shells. It is
inspired by tools like autojump, z and v. Fasd keeps track of files and
directories you have accessed, so that you can quickly reference them in the
command line.

The name fasd comes from the default suggested aliases f(files),
a(files/directories), s(show/search/select), d(directories).

Fasd ranks files and directories by frecency, that is, by both frequency
and recency. The term frecency was first coined by Mozilla and used in
Firefox (https://developer.mozilla.org/en/The_Places_frecency_algorithm).

If you use your shell to navigate and launch applications, fasd can help you do
it more efficiently. With fasd, you can open files regardless of which
directory you are in. Just with a few key strings, fasd can find a frecent
file or directory and open it with command you specify. Below are some
hypothetical situations, where you can type in the command on the left and fasd
will expand your command into the right side. Pretty magic, huh?

If you have a file called todo.txt on your computer right now, you're in the
right place.

So many power users try dozens of complicated todo list software applications,
only to go right back to their trusty todo.txt file.

But it's not easy to open todo.txt, make a change, and save it—especially on
your touchscreen device and at the command line. Todo.txt apps solve that
problem.
Simplicity is todo.txt's core value.

You're not going to find many checkboxes, drop-downs, reminders, or date
pickers here.

Todo.txt apps are minimal, todo.txt-focused editors which help you manage your
tasks with as few keystrokes and taps possible.

Bug#726808: manpage: mount command unproperly documented

2013-10-19 Thread nodiscc
Package: obnam
Version: 1.5-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch upstream

Dear Maintainer,

The manpage sectin for the mount command is incomplete. It says:
obnam [options] mount [ROOT]
and only provides details for the viewmode and fuse-opts options
Using the mount commmand that way simply doesn't work.
I have been able to find online docs to make it work, see
http://vlists.pepperfish.net/pipermail/obnam-flarn.net/2013-April/000745.html

The basic usage is:
obnam mount --config=normal.conf --generation NN --to=/mount/point --root=/
(where --root is path within repo generation NN)

Alternatively you can mount all generations in separate subdirectories
obnam mount --config=normal.conf --viewmode=multiple --to=/mount/point
--root=/
(you can also set --root if they all have the same prefix)

So, the manpage should at least read
obnam [options] mount --to=[MOUNTPOINT] --root=[ROOT]

because it doesn't work at all without these options, and --root and --to have
different meanings for the mount command and backup/restore commands.

Thanks

Bug#720604: lxappearance writes to the wrong file

2013-10-08 Thread nodiscc
Hi,

I just discovered that lxappearance seems to write to the wrong file. It
correctly writes the new config to ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and
~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini (as a side note, this contradicts
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=636257 - it should work
for gtk3 themes once this bug is fixed).

**But** lxde's session manager is lxsession, which also acts an X
settings daemon, and watches
~/.config/lxsession/$DESKTOP_SESSION/desktop.conf for changes before
applying them. I don't know if other desktop environments use
~/.gtkrc-2.0 to store gtk settings (in which case it makes sense to also
store them there), but the lxappearance/lxsession combo is broken until
this situation is fixed.

Either:
 * make lxsession read and apply settings from ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and
~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
 * or make lxappearance write the settings to
~/.config/lxsession/$DESKTOP_SESSION/desktop.conf again (why was it
removed in the first place?).

Please tell me if there's an upstream bug report for this; It should be
fixed ASAP as it will break lxappearance for many users.

Thanks

Bug#709548: Most themes from deviantart/gnome-look are affected

2013-10-02 Thread nodiscc
Hi, just wanted to add that most gtk3 themes downloaded from
deviantart/gnome-look causes gtk3 apps to segfault. Theses themes used
to work with previous libgtk-3.0 versions. I've tried with 'Siva',
'Zukitwo', 'Zukiwi', 'Zukini' and variants and many others, and these
themes all cause gtk3 apps (evince, seahorse...) to segfault. For the
record, The 'Bleufear' theme does not cause this bug.

Maybe these themes are broken, but this should not downright cause a
segmentation fault. If they need fixing, I'll gladly report it to the
theme authors but libgtk-3.0 should be fixed too. Is there an upstream
bug report i can CC to?

Package: gnome-packagekit
Version: 3.8.2-4
Followup-For: Bug #702241

Hi,
I have this exact problem on Jessie, gnome-packagekit 3.8.2-4.
So this is not a wheezy-related bug. I have made sure packagekitd and
gnome-settings-daemon were running, and that the updates g-s-d plugin
was enabled. gpk-prefs has the check for updates value set to daily.

The cron job workaround works for me, but this is definitely a hack.

Any idea about what's happening?

Bug#724667: RFP: bd -- Quickly go back to a specific parent directory

2013-09-26 Thread nodiscc
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: bd
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Vigneshwaran Raveendran vigneshwaran2...@gmail.com
* URL : https://github.com/vigneshwaranr/bd
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: sh
  Description : Quickly go back to a specific parent directory

Quickly go back to a specific parent directory in linux instead of typing cd
../../.. redundantly.

If you are in this path
/home/user/project/src/org/main/site/utils/file/reader/whatever and you want to
go to site directory quickly, then just type: bd site
In fact, You can simply type bd starting few letters like bd s or bd si
If there are more than one directories with same name up in the hierarchy, bd
will take you to the closest. (Not considering the immediate parent.)

Using bd within backticks (`bd letter(s)`) prints out the path without
changing the current directory.
You can take advantage of that by combining `bd letter(s)` with other
commands such as ls, ln, echo, zip, tar etc..

Bug#720604: lxappearance can't change the icons and the theme color

2013-09-16 Thread nodiscc
Package: lxappearance
Version: 0.5.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #720604

I can confirm lxappearance does not update
~/.config/lxession/$SESSION/desktop.conf according to the new theme setting.
Editing that file manually to set the theme has the desired effect (as soon as
the file is saved, lxsession updates the current theme to the one specified in
the config file).

theme selection in lxappearance and lxappearance-obconf is totally broken
Window manager theme changes in lxappearance-obconf are applied, though
(~/.config/openbox/rc.xml is updated), but no gtk2/3 or icon theme changes at
all.

This bug is annoying.

Thanks for looking into this.

Bug#722249: RFP: simplescreenrecorder -- a simple program to record screencasts

2013-09-09 Thread nodiscc
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: simplescreenrecorder
  Version : 0.0.7
  Upstream Author : Maarten Baert maarten-ba...@hotmail.com
* URL : http://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : a simple program to record screencasts

A simple program to record programs and games. It is intended to be simple to
use, but has a lot of features.

 * Graphical user interface (Qt-based).
 * Faster than VLC and ffmpeg/avconv.
 * Records the entire screen or part of it, or records OpenGL applications
directly (similar to Fraps on Windows).
 * Synchronizes audio and video properly (a common issue with VLC and
ffmpeg/avconv).
 * Reduces the video frame rate if your computer is too slow (rather than using
up all your RAM like VLC does).
 * Fully multithreaded: small delays in any of the components will never block
the other components, resulting is smoother video and better performance on
computers with multiple processors.
 * Pause and resume recording at any time (either by clicking a button or by
pressing a hotkey).
 * Shows statistics during recording (file size, bit rate, total recording
time, actual frame rate, ...).
 * Can show a preview during recording, so you don't waste time recording
something only to figure out afterwards that some setting was wrong.
 * Uses libav/ffmpeg libraries for encoding, so it supports many different
codecs and file formats (adding more is trivial).
 * Can also do live streaming (experimental).
 * Sensible default settings: no need to change anything if you don't want to.
 * Tooltips for almost everything: no need to read the documentation to find
out what something does.
