DearSteffen

My initial suggestion '%F %T' was just tentative, I do not care about it,

I' really happy to know that you changed the default to

Thanks a lot for your time

PS No credits needed, it is fine to me!

Bug#828965: FIX: Initial directory =

2016-08-29 Thread r . ductor
Dear Maintainers.

Package: konsole
Version: 4:16.04.2-1

The regression I've described seems to be fixed
by setting
'Initial directory='
instead of
'Initial directory=/root'
in the Settings > Manage profiles > edit form.

This setting results in Directory=  in the profile file reported below;
invoking the profile does NOT hang konsole, which nicely starts a session in
/root directory as expected (Apparently leaving empty the 'initial directory'
field defaults to ~ of the new user, which is sensible.)

I have no idea why Directory= and Directory=/root
are NOT equivalent in this case, and why the problem is not reproduced.

Thanks for your time
ric

Bug#828965: requested info

2016-07-05 Thread r . ductor
Dear Maximiliano, maintainers

1)
I reproduced my problem in the same machine with another existing user and with
a brand-new user: in both cases no "Password" prompt.

As for the profile directory, all profiles are in
.local/share/konsole/Root-Large-BRL.profile

By mistake (sorry) I sent a relic profile file in my previous email but the
contents are more or less equivalent:

$cat .local/share/konsole/Root-Large-BRL.profile
[Appearance]
ColorScheme=BlackOnRandomLight
Font=DejaVu Sans Mono,18,-1,2,50,0,0,0,0,0

[General]
Command=/bin/su --login
Directory=/root
Name=Root-Large-BRL
Parent=FALLBACK/
StartInCurrentSessionDir=false
TerminalColumns=135
TerminalRows=17

2)
As for pam, I have no custom settings in /etc/pam.d but I notice that some
files have been changed few minutes after the start of my full-upgrade of
2016-06-28:

# ls -lt /etc/pam.d/
total 120
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1234 Jun 28 11:48 common-session
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1154 Jun 28 11:48 common-session-noninteractive
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1480 Jun 28 11:48 common-password
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1208 Jun 28 11:48 common-account
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1249 Jun 28 11:48 common-auth
... the others are older...

Below I report my version of *pam and cat the contents of the common-*
(standard) files. I'm sorry but I have no knowledge of pam so I cannot detect
if there are problems in these files.

Thanks for your time,
ric

Bug#823845: D-I testing Alpha5 amd64: LVM on DM-CRYPT: 'File not found /dev/mapper/vg0-lv-archive2'

2016-05-09 Thread r . ductor
Package: installation-reports

Boot method: netinst
Image version: testing amd64 netinst Current weekly snapshots (downloaded on
2016-05-05)
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/iso-cd/
Should be Debian installer Alpha 5.

Machine: laptop HP EliteBook 8570w Mobile Workstation
refs:
http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/manualsResults/?lang=en=us=5257502
Processor: i7-3740QM
Memory: 16 GB
HD: ~760GB

Initial boot:   [OK ]
Detect network card:[ OK]
Configure network:  [OK ]
Detect hard drives: [OK ]
Partition hard drives:  [ ERROR]

Problems:
Manual partition of LVM on DMCRYPT (nothing exceptional).
Final formatting stops with the error 'File not found
/dev/mapper/vg0-lv-archive2'.

Partial fix: using just LV lv-root and lv-swap and leave the other space empty
allows to successfully terminate the install.

=== Failed trials: Manual Partitioning ===

* 30 GB /sda1 => ext4 /boot [OK]
* 730 GB dm-crypt (default crypto settings, AES, key=256, ...),  write zeros
(1.5 hours) and create /sda5_crypt [no errors]
* format /sda5_crypt format ext4 [no errors]
* LVM: assigning volume group vg0 to /sda5_crypt [no errors]
* LVM: creating logical volumes: lv-root (150GB), lv-swap (30GB), lv-data
(150GB), lv-archive (300GB), lv-archive2 (100GB)  [no errors]
* preparing partition table: lv-root (ext4), lv-swap (swap), lv-data (ext4),
lv-archive (ext4) lv-archive2(ext4) and finishing (trying to format):
 I got "Error: Cannot find file /dev/mapper/vg0-lv-archive2" and it was
impossible to proceed

2 days after I restarted the install (without zero writing) and got the same
error, but
Empting lv-archive2, deleting the logical volume lv-archive2 and finishing the
partition table seemed to fix the error: system install followed but I stopped
it.

=== Escape: Manual Partitioning ===

Then I restarted once more and install worked flawlessly with just lv-root and
lv-swap:

* 30 GB /sda1 => ext4 /boot [OK]
* 730 GB dm-crypt (default crypto settings, AES, key=256, ...), write zeros
(1.5 hours) and create /sda5_crypt [no errors]
* format /sda5_crypt format ext4 [no errors]
* LVM: assigning volume group vg0 to /sda5_crypt [no errors]
* LVM: creating logical volumes: lv-root (150GB), lv-swap (30GB),
* preparing partition table: lv-root (ext4), lv-swap (swap) and finishing: [no
errors]
... install completed flawlessy  :)

Hope this can help.

Well, not in the bashshell (see below). Anyway this is not relevant: the the

Bug#767388: gdm3 fails to discover kdm at install.

2014-10-31 Thread r . ductor
Dear maintainers

The upgrade to the most updated versions did not change the issue. My current
conjecture (I'm a newbie of systemd) is that there is an install problem.
kdm.service seems built up in some dynamical way and gdm3 fails to discover it
and to accept that kdm is the chosen service. The consequences that
x-display-manager.target requires both kdm.service and gdm.service, which
generates the failure of the assertion in gdm.service

Bug#766958: [xserver-xorg-video-nv] WISH: make the package available for more architectures, at least i386

2014-10-27 Thread r . ductor
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:2.1.20-3
WISH: make the package availble for more architectures, at least i386.

Dear maintainers

I'm the (sad) owner of an old laptop with a nvidia NV-28 graphic card (Dell
Inspiron 8500, GeForce 4200, resolution up to 1900x1200).

In spite of the optimistic claims on the xorg website [1], it turns out that
nouveau is unusable with N28 (See [2], reported 2 years ago. I've reproduced
the problems yesterday, with a freshly installed testing). Setting noaccel=1 or
trying the driver modesetting [3] do not improve the situation (checked again
yesterday).

In my knowledge, the only options to keep a NV28 working on debian currently
are:
-1- To use nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-dkms for Wheezy (96.43.23) or for Squeeze
-2- To use xserver-xorg-video-vesa, with any release.

The former solution allows to use the 1900x1200 graphics and 3D acceleration,
but implies to be stacked to Wheezy forever, because nvidia announced that 96xx
will no more supported [4].

The latter solution, which I prefer, allows to evolute (and e.g. stay in
testing) but does not allow to use high resolutions and 3D.

I've seen that xserver-xorg-video-nv (no 3D but high resolution) came back in
jessie for some architectures, so the natural wish would be to have it for more
architectures (at least i386), if this is technically possible.

My best regards
ric

Bug#729848: bug confirmed.

2013-12-03 Thread r . ductor
Hi

In absence of any reaction, I've double checked my statement (same kde version
as declared, no time for updates): I confirm the bug I've reported.

1) From a kde session clicked on lock screen button.
2) Type the passord but do not entered it with return
3) Waited 10 minutes (my screen saver runs and cover the unlock window)
4) ...come back move the mouse to get back the unlock window, just click on
return and got back my session ...

Please, consider fixing this

Bug#706478: rygel: WHISH rygel should not listen on internet by default

2013-05-02 Thread r ductor
After some inspection I guess that what automatically starts rygel for me
is the following file.
/usr/share/autostart/rygel.desktop
that triggers the execution of rygel at each kde session.

PS
Below I meant update-rc.d -f rygel remove, sorry

Bug#706478: rygel: WHISH rygel should not listen on internet by default

2013-05-02 Thread r ductor
Hello, I confirm: the origin of the automatic execution of rygel is the
/usr/share/autostart/rygel.desktop file.

A file
.config/autostart/rygel.desktop
with
Hidden=true
stops the automatic execution of rygel.

All in all you might want to disable/delete the file
/usr/share/autostart/rygel.desktop to avoid automatic execution of rygel
(in kde at least).

best,
ric

Bug#551462: grub-pc (.97~beta4-1 ): GRUB_DEFAULT=label ignored

2009-10-18 Thread r ductor
Package: grub-pc
Version:1.97~beta4-1
OS: Debian/unstable

Wish:
In the Bash 2 guide posted in ubuntu forums
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275
the option of /etc/default/boot
GRUB_DEFAULT=menuentry-label
is described in detail.
Apparently a patch for that already exists in ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/431179

In my system the option
GRUB_DEFAULT=menuentry-label
is ignored, see my built grub.cfg
Note that this is not a problem of spaces in the menu-entry name:
set default=Microsoft Windows XP Professionnel (on /dev/hda1)
because I used additional \ in the /etc/default/grub file.

Having this option would be very useful for people that like me
share their pc with windows-addict persons that are unable to choose
an entry on the menu-list and need windows as default.
As a temporary patch of course I can set
GRUB_DEFAULT=4
but this will be destroyed at next kernel upgrade.
(In Grub Legacy i used the default=saved but this seems still absent
and more difficult to implement).

Thanks
Ric

Description: GRand Unified Bootloader, version 2 (PC/BIOS version)
 GRUB is a portable, powerful bootloader. This version of GRUB is
based on a cleaner design
 than its predecessors, and provides the following new features:

 * Scripting in grub.cfg using BASH-like syntax.
 * Support for modern partition maps such as GPT.
 * Modular generation of grub.cfg via update-grub. Packages providing
GRUB add-ons can plug
   in their own script rules and trigger updates by invoking
update-grub2.
 * VESA-based graphical mode with background image support and
complete 24-bit color set.
 * Support for extended charsets. Users can write UTF-8 text to their
menu entries.

 This package contains a version of GRUB that has been built for use
with traditional PC/BIOS
 architecture.

Description: GRand Unified Bootloader, version 2 (PC/BIOS version)
 GRUB is a portable, powerful bootloader. This version of GRUB is
based on a cleaner design
 than its predecessors, and provides the following new features:

 * Scripting in grub.cfg using BASH-like syntax.

Description: graphical video and audio batch converter using ffmpeg
 WinFF is a graphical user interface for FFmpeg. It will convert
almost any video file that
 FFmpeg will convert. WinFF does multiple files in multiple formats at
one time. You can, for
 example, convert mpeg's, flv's, and mov's into avi's (or DVD/VCD
format or MPEG or 3gp etc.)
 all at once.

 This package provides a variety of preset conversion settings for
common formats and devices.
 These presets are intended to hit the sweet spot for each
individual codec. They have been
 written with a tip of the balance to quality.
