I had the same problem on i386 (on amd64 it doesn't appear). I solved
this by rebuilding pidgin with libgadu-dev 1:1.10.1-1.
Maybe this will be useful in solving the problem. :)

Install busybox package and make sure that
BUSYBOX=y in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is set.
After that run update-initramfs -u
I think that splashy should depend on busybox.
