Well, then I suggest you fix this obviously ill-conceived aspect of the new menu policy, or allocate new sections for these purposes. I'm sure the new policy wasn't meant to break stuff. -- 2. Bug#373723: Adding menu entries back to xbase-clients
Hi, xbase-clients' programs have been missing from the Debian menu for a while, and you requested them to be re-added back. We were about to do it while splitting xbase-clients into multiple pieces including x11-apps, x11-utils and x11-xserver-utils (currently in experimental). Unfortunately, the Debian menu hierarchy has changed recently and it's hard for us to find a correct location for all these programs (there's no various tools section :)). So if you really want the menu entries back, please help us :) The new hierarchy is available in /usr/share/doc/menu/menu.txt.gz (as of menu 2.1.35). Here's some possible locations to start with: x11-apps: oclock?? xbiffApplications/Network/Communication xcalcApplications/Science/Mathematics xclipboard Application/System/Administration ?? xclock ?? xconsole Application/System/Monitoring xditview Application/Viewers ?? xeyes Games/Toys xedit Applications/Editors xload Applications/System/Monitoring xlogo Games/Toys xmag Applications/Accessibility xman Help xwd Applications/Graphics ?? x11-utils editres Applications/System/Administration ?? xev Applications/System/Monitoring ?? xfontsel Applications/System/Administration ?? xkill Applications/System/Administration ?? x11-xserver-utils xrefresh Applications/System/Administration ?? xsetroot Applications/System/Administration ?? xvidtune Applications/System/Administration ?? Here's some possible locations to start with: x11-apps: oclock?? xclipboard Application/System/Administration ?? xclock ?? Should we create the missing section? We might end up requesting a new section if there is no satisfying solution. I feel like some section to put various tools is missing. Not being able to find a place for xclock looks strange to me. Even FVWM and Window Maker applets both have their own section, having a section for common widgets such a xclock might be better then. xconsole Application/System/Monitoring I can not run this tool on Etch, Lenny and Sid because it give me Couldn't open console, which mean, I have to set (as root) the permission of /dec/console to be readable by any users which I do not realy like. Maybe we should leave this tool out. Xconsole would actually call xconsole -f /dev/xconsole as requested in an old bug report. People in the adm group should be able to see some logs then. xsetroot Applications/System/Administration ?? The problem is, that this tool require a parameter which mean, it is not usefull in any menu entries. Since menu can not ask for parameters, we should drop it from menu. It seems that xsetroot resets to the default background pattern when no argument is given, that's what the old xbase-clients menu entry was meant to.
