I have no problem with splitting it. ntpq can be used to talk to
remote hosts, ntpdc in theory too but it might be more
problematic. But I never used either to talk to a remote host. The
default ntp.conf doesn't allow you to do so. There have also been
many security bugs that are only relevant if you allow to use
those tools, including amplification attacks.

So in theory it could be useful to monitor other hosts ntp status,
and could then be used if you use ntpdate or sntpd to synch the
the local clock, but I think in practice it's not really useful
to split it.

ntpdate was already in its own binary package. So, there isn't much
change compared to the previous status.

I think it's a replacement of ntpdate, not ntpdc and ntpq

In general, all this generic NTP client software that doesn't depend on
a NTP server on localhost needs to be split out.

The same binary is both the NTP client _and_ the NTP server.

If you do want to separate out the utilities the resulting package
should be named ntp-utilities.

Er, ntpdc isn't the NTP server, it's a query program for the separate
server program called ntpd. It's customary to refer to these as clients.
But regardless, I really don't care much about the exact package name,
just about the restoration of old functionality.
