VERBOSE=yes output for the failing test and the two before that would be helpful in any case when there is a system available again, whether it is a GCC or a Libtool bug. I've just uploaded a fixed version. Thiemo Seufer told me that gcc 4.3 changed the default for mips/mipsel and that shared libraries now require the use of -fPIC.
