2ping 1.0 was released today, and I also sat down to package it for Debian. I've pushed them to mentors.debian.net: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/2/2ping/ It has the following files: /usr/share/doc/2ping/changelog.gz /usr/share/doc/2ping/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/2ping/README /usr/share/doc/2ping/copyright /usr/share/man/man8/2ping.8.gz /usr/bin/2ping /etc/init.d/2ping /etc/default/2ping /usr/share/man/man8/2ping6.8.gz (symlink) /usr/bin/2ping6 (symlink) The initscript is for a more permanent listener, but will be silently skipped over during boot if not explicitly enabled in the defaults file. In this version, I've added/changed a few things to make packaging easier. * A Makefile is included that recognizes DESTDIR and PREFIX. * The man section has been changed from 1 to 8 to be more consistent with other utilities. * 2ping6 and 2ping6.8 symlinks are built during make (2ping will now assume -6 if called as 2ping6). * A ChangeLog is included. * All Perl modules required for base functionality are provided by the perl package. I intend to package 2ping as it seems to fit quite nicely into the set of tools I usually have on nearly all of my boxes. Co-maintainers welcome, nevertheless. Just FYI, you may want to get in touch with the upstream developer (who is a Debian Maintainer). When I asked him about this, he said that he was wanting to finalize the protocol before packaging it for Debian. I explicitly looked for his name in the NM list to see if that's the case, because I didn't want to steal that package from some upcoming Debian Developer. If I want to distribute software on my boxes, I want to do that in .deb format, so I wouldn't be unhappy to have the current state packaged somewhere anyway. Anyway, I'm happy if Ryan wants to package his software himself and available for sponsoring or co-maintaining. Feel free to change the owner of this bug appropriately. Haven't done much more than dh-make so far, so no work would be lost. You and Francois can draw straws to determine who packages it, and either of you have my blessing with keeping it in experimental for now (and definitely move to sid once I finalize the protocol design). I was planning on eventually packaging it myself if nobody was interested, but I am totally fine with having someone else maintain the packaging... as long as it's not CDBS ;). Just FYI, I do promise to flesh out the distribution tarball, so look out for a proper Makefile upstream sometime in the near future. The IANA front desk just got back to me today saying they're still reviewing my request, which I consider encouraging. Requesting a registered port from the IANA (1024-49151, not well known 1024 of course) was mostly an exercise in being a good netizen that also happened to give me some more time to finish the design.
