That is not relevant. I configured with --enable-mad=no --enable-lame-encoder so the binary I compiled should not be able to use MAD at all. I recompiled, additionally without the libmpg123 dev files and then it uses ffmpeg. Playback is perfectly fine in both cases. I still say mpd does not handle mad correctly.
