Bug#719268: gnome-power-manager: no battery icon in gnome-shell, no action executed on critical battery level
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 3.14.1-1 Followup-For: Bug #719268 Hi! My self-described-incompetent friend informed me of this exact issue after an upgrade from wheezy to jessie recently. It turns out my "incompetent" friend was more capable than me at figuring out a workaround: http://askubuntu.com/a/66422 Enlightened, I thought others could be interested in the Knowledge. It turns out that you can "Alt-right-click" on the top menu to add applets, including a battery status applet. A. PS: This seems to be a regression from wheezy to jessie. There is also no obvious way of configuring the actions on power issues. I am sure, however, that my brilliant friend will be able to tell us if there's a way to fix that as well. My friend encourages you to try to figure it out first. :) -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (1, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages gnome-power-manager depends on: ii dbus-x11 1.8.20-0+deb8u1 ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.22.0-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon3.14.2-3 ii libc62.19-18+deb8u4 ii libcairo21.14.0-2.1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.1-1+b1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.14.5-1+deb8u1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.36.8-3 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.36.8-3 ii libupower-glib3 0.99.1-3.2 ii upower 0.99.1-3.2 gnome-power-manager recommends no packages. Bug#719268: gnome-power-manager: no battery icon in gnome-shell, no action executed on critical battery level
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 3.8.2-1 Severity: normal As per subject - in Gnome-shell 3.8.0, no battery icon is shown. Unlike earlier versions of gnome-power-manager, there is no setting in the preferences to enable an icon. What's worse, gpm doesn't appear to execute any action on critical battery state. Yesterday, my laptop just switched itself of without warning, because the battery was empty, g-p-m did not even attempt to hibernate. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (450, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.9-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.utf8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-power-manager depends on: ii dbus-x111.6.12-1 ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.16.1-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.3-1+b1 ii libc6 2.17-92 ii libcairo2 1.12.14-4 ii libglib2.0-02.36.3-3 ii libgtk-3-0 3.8.2-3 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.32.5-5+b1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.32.5-5+b1 ii libupower-glib1 0.9.20-2 ii notification-daemon 0.7.6-1 ii plasma-widgets-workspace [notification-daemon] 4:4.10.5-3 ii upower 0.9.20-2 gnome-power-manager recommends no packages.
