During a rebuild of all Debian packages in a clean sid chroot (using cowbuilder
and pbuilder) the build failed with the following error.

Looking at GNUmakefile suggests that .CURDIR might not be set or is set to an
empty value. Be aware that this build uses the latest make in unstable, version
4.0-7.
